  1. Sonic, My 'puter isn't that great actually. One of the tricks I use is to launch my demo playback at a reduced resolution, which lets me crank up more detail level without stalling my CPU or graphics card. I use Balshor's demo editor to launch and select 720x480 (TV/DVD resolution) as the size. I figure that anything larger than that is wasted even if I burn it to DVD. Give it a try!
  2. Moohaha! All your DVDs are belong to us!
  3. I've had this video on the back burner for almost a year now. First it got pushed back because of the Matrix Machinima contest, then another video project took priority. I finally dusted it off yesterday and decided to finish the darn thing. Its a promo for the StarForce supergroup (Guardian server) and you can see it here.
  4. Heh heh... Fustigate... I am *so* stealing that one.

    BTW - The volume level of sound effects are relative to the position of the PLAYER object. If you don't want the player visible but still want to record the sounds, try moving the PLAYER up or down (Z coordinate) so they're just out of sight.
  5. I frakkin' LOVED IT! Nice concept.
  6. Wait. I-14 Trailer? Whatever happened to the Videographer's Task Force we filmed after wrapping up the Matrix Machinima Contest? When do we get to enjoy that little jewel?
  7. What is, I have watched too much Jeopardy, Alex?
  8. Another reason I'm really glad I have After Effects?
  9. Showoff...

    Well, at least that means that the effect is within reach given enough effort, as opposed to needing inside access to the game animators. I wonder if we could coax him into giving us some tips on how he pulled it off?
  10. Any ideas how those were done? Please don't tell me they created special in-game animations that we'll never get to access...
  11. Awesomeness personified! However did you get this power - Aura of Excellence? Or do you just have Moment Of Glorious on auto?

    help please

    The time codes for object 1429 (Place-Holder) were way out there too. I adjusted them and posted a version here (you'll need to reset the extension from .txt to .cohdemo BTW). I think it does what you want.
  13. The only halfway stealthy effect that I know of that works is ghosting (Maintained xxx OBJECTIVEOBJECTFX/GHOSTED.FX), and it has a kind of annoying pulsating thing.
  14. Oh, duh - the Vanity Wizard! I love that thing and it would definitely get hit by this problem.
  15. PM Leandro. Maybe he'll share his code for the Poser program with you. You can see what he's done so far here.

  17. Nice. I hadn't heard that version of the old Who song before.

    I second D_R's suggestion about lowering the camera a couple of ticks when filming your own character. By default, the in-game camera centers pretty much on your toon's head, which leaves a lot of empty 'head space" above them. It looks weird and sometimes creates the illusion that the character is tiny. If you use Balshor's Demo Editor, it is fairly easy to fix. Just add a filter for CAM, then use the "Translate POS" with -2 or so as the Z co-ordinate adjustment. That will center the camera more around their chest or torso. If the camera is very close to the character, you may have to adjust the Pitch (1st PYR value) up (-) a bit, but that is a little more advanced especially if the camera is moving. The good news is that this little adjustment is a good way to start working with demorecordings and makes a big difference in how your vids look.

    You've made a really good start, very creative. The technical stuff can be learned, but the creativity is the one thing that can't really be learned - its a talent thing. Looking forward to your future vids.

    it seems overwhelming to try and learn the coding to such a level that I could achieve what I'm thinking of.

    it is.

    Like building muscle, stretching our abilities is what makes them grow.

    "Ah, but a man's reach should exceed his grasp -- or what's a heaven for?" - Robert Browning

    But, when it comes to the real artists in this craft, this quote seems more appropriate:

    "We are dreamers, shapers,
    singers and makers;
    We study the the Mysteries
    of laser and curcuit,
    crystal and scanner;
    Holographic demons
    and invocations of equations;
    These are the tools we employ.
    And we know many things."

  19. There is also a Vanity Demo Creation Wizard in Balshor's Demo Editor. It allows you to pull a character/costume definition from an existing demo recording, and then it places them on Ms. Liberty's pedestal and rotates the camera around them for a 360-degree view.
  20. Or....

    You could read the wealth of information assembled in the "Guide to Demo Guides & Tools" topic.
  21. Oops. Nevermind. I found a duplicate NEW for an NPC, totally unrelated to the object being moved.
  22. I am trying to create a movement path using Zloth's Demo Edit. I select the object ("Cassie Nova" - ID 2007), click "Object to Move" and then click "Movement". I then get an unhandled exception in frmMovement: Add failed. Duplicate key value supplied.

    Any thoughts?

    Oh, the file can be found here.
  23. I know my vids are a bit unsmooth in spots. It's because my most powerful machine isn't that great CPU-wise or graphics-wise. We work with what we have.
  24. OK, serious now...

    The problem has something to do with reference ID 3179, which belongs to a PC named "US Customs Inspector". If you delete all of those references, it runs. At least it gets past that 7-second hang. I didn't run much past that.

    Not sure what line referencing 3179 is the actual problem. I'll leave that as an "exercise for the reader".
  25. The toon is named "J-Ranger", so the game engine just keeps saying "no"
