  1. Hi,

I'm effectively new (been away 5 years, no money, no friends to get money from, have a few random toons of various types below level 20 on Freedom). I like pvp in pretty much any game, and I'm trying to gauge if there is any point in my trying to do it so late in the game when I have no resources to draw upon...

    1) Is there any pvp at lower levels?

    2) Can I expect to be able to create some type of character (below level 20) and actually enjoy pvp? Will I just get creamed unless I take specific types of characters with specific powersets?

    3) What levels do most people play pvp at?

    Thanks for your replies.
  2. HOs were a carrot to get people to want to go after Hami since it takes so much effort. Who would do it more than once if there was no uber reward? Not likely many, meaning after a couple of Hami raids, he would be undoable since you would not be able to muster the numbers to do it.

Although it has not really been discussed in here, let me put this out there to generate some.... "discussion".

    1) Eliminate HOs. Hami is no longer the end game, PvP will be. To those who disagree, give them more PvE content for their endgame. Sure, those who have HOs will whine, but will it stop them from PvP'ing? Anyone worth playing with or fighting against would still be around. Whiners will leave; good ridance.

    2) Eliminate obtaining multiple HOs; limit it to 1, perhaps 5? No more than some arbitrary low number N however.

Now, there is still a reward for doing Hami, Nobody becomes too over powered, yet those who want to be tweaked a bit more still can be by attending several Hami raids to get their N HOs.

Obviously those who have > N already would have them removed and be given influence in return. They would also get to choose the ones kept blah blah blah....

How do you like those apples?
  3. This is a good first step... and I have no doubt this is only the first step. This seems to solve the issues people had with HO stealing. Nothing wrong with that.

As for the issue of people leeching by standing at the zone entrance not helping in a team... kick them, put a range limitation in, whatever... this is a minor issue at best.

With all the discussion HOs have generated, you can be sure the devs are listening and I'm sure they are not yet done with their mods in regards to HOs.

I fully expect we will at some future patch we will be able to tell who has HOs and who does not so we can choose arena opponents based on if they have them or not.

I have not done and HO raid, I may do it once just to say I did it, but IMO HOs have broken this game by introducing "loot" since loot is not a concern at any other point. No biggie when it was only a PvE game, but with PvP, even with this fix, people will farm Hami over and over until they do get HOs in everything. Count on it - its the nature of most wanting to be competitive in PvP.

Since I fully expect to be able to choose my opponents in the arena based on them having HOs or not, HOs concern me little at this point. However, how will this be handled when CoV comes out? Will HO'd Heros be able to fight non HO'd (equivalent) villians?

I personally think HOs should just be scrapped... with PvP, Hami no longer needs to be the end game, and HOs are no longer required as the carrot to get you to do it. PvP is the end game for many of us. For those that do not see PvP as the end game, good immersive content is what they need - not unbalancing HO carrots.

I started playing CoH only after I knew plans for PvP were on the table - pvp is my end game - and I don't want to have to farm "uber lewtz" to do it. Grinding to 50 is enough tyvm; no need to screw up an otherwise unique MMORPG model by introducing loot so late in the game.

I leared from DAOC that needing to farm uber loot to be successful in PvP is a very very bad thing for anyone that has a life away from their computer.
