  1. Not that this thread is in need of more posts, but I thought I'd toss my 2inf in.

Whether you think Issue 8 should have had more features or not, the fact remains that CoH is one of very few MMOs that do free content updates AT ALL. Most relatively major MMOs charge you for your retail box and then give you little to nothing else in the future for your $15 a month fee. Run out of content, and you're out of luck unless you buy the expansion(s). To claim that Cryptic/NCSoft are ripping you off because you didn't get your new flying pony archetype or Candy Mountain hazard zone or whatever in Issue 8 is patently absurd. Would I like to see even more free content in each issue? Absolutely, I'd have to be crazy not to wish for that, you can never get enough of a good thing and all that. But for most of 3 years now, I've been quite pleased with the way this game has continued to move forward. Beyond the WalMart GvsE thing, I've never had a real complaint about anything CoH related. Keep up the good work, Cryptic!
  2. Patch notes say:

    - "Cellular" pattern added to gloves and boots

This doesn't seem to be true. Could not find Cellular pattern for boots or gloves, male or female.

I dont know if this is a stupid question but i am very confused ive asked around on cov that if i buy the online serial code that my cov account will be able to play cov and coh so can you confirm this for me? thnx ahead

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just the Jump pack, Pocket D Gold Club access/teleport, and the new costume bits.

You'll want to pick up GvsE in stores. Comes with a month of play time ($15 value), the in-game items ($10 value), plus the game DVDs and a couple other paper-based goodies. Subtract the month of play time and in-game items and you're getting CoH added to your account for just $5

I just got off the phone with Walmart Division Manager for our area. She was very nice btw, and did a fast research on the product. From Her understanding the game isn't even suspose to be an in Store item. It is only avaliable on Walmart.com.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This can't be correct, or no one anywhere would have found it on shelves in the stores. The only people who would have picked it up in stores would be the people who purchased it at WalMart.com and used the ship-to-store option.

There are two explanations as to why it didn't show up on shelves when it was supposed to: A) NC didn't properly establish in the contract with WalMart the required on-shelf date, and simply assumed that the date they put up at the Co* and PlayNC sites was going to be correct or B) NC DID establish the date, and WalMart simply chose to ignore that part of the contract. If it was A, then someone at NC screwed up, and they need to be more careful in the future. If it was B, then they shouldn't be doing exclusives with WalMart again without strong wording in the contract giving NC a course of action to pursue if WalMart fails to hold up its side of the deal. If this was WalMart's fault, they cost NC a number of box sales, made them look bad, and nullified some advertising NC had put in place.

No matter what actually occured behind the scenes, I'm disappointed in NCSoft. I don't think they should have done an exclusive with WalMart in the first place, but if they felt it was necessary, it should have been planned and coordinated better. I'm not disappointed in WalMart, because it is, after all, WalMart, and my expectations of them were already very low.

I'm really disappointed. The Pocket D VIP teleporter only allows one teleport per 30 minutes. And the Jump Jet allows 30 seconds burn time, with a longer recharge time. [censored]..!!!

I paid 10 bucks for items I can barely use? WHAT A RIP OFF..!! Why can't the P-D VIP teleporter recharge every minute or two like any other teleport travel power? And the Jump Jet should be like any other fly power, constantly on, like the christmas jet pack.

    [/ QUOTE ]

While I agree that the recharge times should be changed and duration of jump jet should be made unlimited barring endurance drain, yours is another example of not looking before you leap. This information was available before the online order was possible, so you made a purchase without bothering to look anything up. If you feel ripped-off, it's entirely your own fault. Maybe take it as a life lesson. At least it's only $10. What if you bought a car without getting any info on it or test driving it?
  6. Okay, I tested this: I logged into a Level 2 character: Pocket D Teleport is not functional. I killed a bunch of Hellions, leveled up to 3, Pocket D Teleport immediately became functional. So Level 3 and up, should work fine

Hero and villain costumes? what 2 things? LOL

    [/ QUOTE ]

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, but there are a lot more than 2 new costume peices. There are two FULL costume sets, each with Top, Bottom, Gloves, Gloves without pads, Boots, Boots without pads, and Shoulders. By my count, that's 14 new costume peices. And very cool costume peices at that. You can even use the Sinister pattern with other tops and bottoms, so that makes 16 new costume options.

I can understand that you might not have had foreknowledge when you went to purchase, but a smart buyer makes informed purchases. You chose to purchase blindly without looking into the extra details on the boards and official site. It's unfortunate that you aren't entirely happy with your purchase, but the fault remains with you.

Let me ask you this: What CoH/CoV retail box has come with MORE than this? Let's examine:
    - CoH Preorder: A prestige sprint that adds no new function, just decorative.
    - CoH Collector's DVD: Prestige Slide (Again, no new function, just decorative), exclusive cape (That no one uses), VIP badge.
    - CoV Preorder: An Arachnos helmet
    - CoV DVD: Exclusive cape (Does anyone use this one, either?), Arachnos chest emblem, Destined One badge.
    - GvsE: Jump Jet power (Unique concept), Pocket D Gold Club teleport and access, SIXTEEN new costume peices.

If you didn't pay any attention to the information on the official sites and forums and went solely with past retail boxes as an example, GvsE should have had FAR more than you expected to get.
  8. Code purchase is available now. Login to your PlayNC account, click the "PURCHASE CODE" link and you'll be able to do it. I've purchased online and have now begun using the ingame stuff.

Initial reaction to what I've tried so far:
Jump Jet - Pretty nifty, but should lose the time limit. The fact that it has only vertical thrust and whatever endurance cost it has will keep it from being a real travel power instead of just the novelty that it is.

Pocket D Teleporter: REALLY long interrupt time, but that's no particular concern. I'd like to see the Recharge time decreased significantly. It has no impact on being able to get into the Tiki room through the regular door, just the teleport, so no huge deal either way Finally having access to that Tiki room that has been beckoning me for weeks is a huge relief. But there's no bartender in there, so hopefully that will get rectified.

Haven't tried the costume stuff yet, but have a couple characters that have been waiting on that Justice costume

    3. Called another store, and after finally getting transfered to Electronics, asked about the availability of "Good versus Evil Edition" and was told they do not carry religous items.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Heheh, that's priceless! Especially considering the fact that I saw religious items for sale at the WalMart I visited just before work. So they were wrong about what you were asking for, and they were wrong about the reason they don't have it.

I think what I'll do is stop at a couple WalMarts on my way home from work and hope that whatever ineptitude that caused this delay has been rectified. It boggles my mind that WalMart has all of us desperate to throw our hard-earned money in their direction, and they don't seem to care. *crosses fingers for NCSoft to put the online purchase up early*
  10. Just called 4 Walmarts in my area, none of them had it, nor did they have a clue about it. They had all just finished putting out all the new stock they had gotten in today, too.

This whole thing is nothing short of a debacle. If WalMart insists on having it exclusively, they really should abide by the agreed-upon release date. And since they're most likely the ones that forced the delay of the in-game items online purchase so they could sell boxes, they're doubly responsible for getting this thing on shelves today. I was annoyed by not being able to buy the in-game items today, but moved on and decided to just buy the box and spend a few bucks more. Now I'm just pissed. I'm going to agree with the Never Do Exclusives With WalMart Again idea. I hope the devs will see how absurd this situation has become and just enable the online purchase anyway, screw WalMart.
  11. I have to say, this pushing back the for-sale date of the in-game items only package is the first thing PlayNC has done that has ticked me off a bit. I've been really looking forward to these, and was happy that I didn't have to buy a 4th retail box to get them (I have CoH, CoH DVD, CoV DVD, and a preorder for each game). Perhaps it's wild speculation, but it seems fairly obvious that WalMart wanted the first chance at selling these in-game items in hopes that players would spend a bit more instead of waiting. And sadly, their strategy might work on me, depending on the retail box price. Do we have any official word on what WalMart's price is going to be for GvE? If it's $30, I'll probably go ahead and grab it on the 29th, though I may burn the box after retreiving my upgrade code :P

All I said was that it wouldn't acomplish anything if the goal was to add another aspect to the game the way equipment does other games. I didn't say that there was anything wrong with geting xp. What im saying is that all this would accomplish is add a different way to go about geting your levels. It doesn't actually give you any new abilities or new things you can do in combat or whatever.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The "level-independant" thing sounds to me like this system wouldn't have anything to do with XP. This may be way off base, but it seems to me like it might be a seperate point system, something like Skill Points.

From what we've heard so far, I'm excited. We still need a lot more information before making real judgements, though. My one concern with the system is whether it will be as signifigant as combat. Could I start a brand new character, skip combat completely, and just do Skills? Would my gaming experience be equivelant (ie, time spent, things to do) with Skills as it would be with combat gaming? For me, this would be the true measure of how good a non combat system is. If I could spend similar time on a non-combat character before maxing out as I could with a combat character, that could be excellent
