Quote:Yep. Guassian's Synchronized Fire-Control: Chance for Build up.Gaussion's. and it only has a 5% chance to fire. i usually put mine in tactics and it seems to go off pretty fairly.
I have mine in Tactics too. But I've played over an hour-time PvP and it never fired once during the matches....I play Arena matches if that matters. It works just fine when I'm back in Pocket D. But once I enter Arena mode it never fires off...Any ideas? -
hmm...Thank you. My problem currently is that I have very limited funds on redside (about 200 mil or so), and I don't have any purples on redside yet, but I will try to work with something similar. Appreciated.
EDIT: Currently I'm sticking to Arena matches BTW.. If that makes any difference. At least till I get a solid build going and get the hang of the whole PvP thing. -
How exactly do procs work in PvP? I haven't tried them all yet but I noticed that the GSFC Proc never works fires while I'm in PvP mode...so I thought I should probably generlize my question about all of them. Any help appreciated.
-
Okay, so... I've dabbled into PvP for the first time ever a few days ago. Had a few arena matches with SG members. And realized that it's actually pretty fun. I tried using different toons, but I got creamed on all of them lol. I have a Fire/Cold corruptor that I *believe* would be good for PvP with the great damage and debuffs it carries with it. One thing I can already say about the build..I would kill for a self heal, lol.
Anyways, I'm trying to throw together a quick PvP build for her. I realize Aid-Self is most probably a big No-no since it's interruptible.
So yeah, from what little understanding I have about PvP, I came up with this build.. Totally useless? Any good? Any advice appreciated.

Hahaha. I guess my best solution is just check with some PvPer friends and let them talk a look at my builds, or post them here :P
-
OMG IT'S CLOUDED
*waves* o.o/
It would make sense to only start procing when there are people in Invincibility's range. Interesting idea. Would've never thought of that, lol. -
Yep. With good recharge and using Follow Up/Blinding Feint often it should proc rather often too... Unfortunately this won't work for me at this time because I'm using a corruptor =/
I did, however, put the Decimation "Chance for Build up" proc in my T1 attack. So, basically the same idea as slotting the GSFC in Follow Up/Blinding Feint -
Okay..I read a bit about that in Paragon Wiki. But I'm still not completely sure how will it work. Can someone just tell me quickly how it works? Just to simplify things let's suppose I only have Shark Skin and no other sources of resistance buffs. Does DR directly reduce the buff from Shark Skin even though it's a toggle?
-
Quote:You are correct, it will affect only you. And your assumption about how it works is also correct, every ten seconds it will have a chance to fire.
I prefer putting Gaussian's in Aim or Build Up. Granted the recharge for the power isn't as good as it could be, but at least that way I will get to USE that extra 100% damage boost, instead of it firing while I'm standing at WW or something.
Very true. Except this particular question will be a PvP build, so I will mostly be attacking non-stop. So the timing of when it fires is always useful :P
Thank you for the very quick reply. -
First of all, I'd like to point out that I'm extreme newbie and noob when it comes to PvP.
Second of all, my real question. I'm trying to plan out a quick build to try out PvP with a friend of mine. According to Mids a squishy toon (Corruptor in this case) will get a respectable boost to all resists when they enter PvP mode. And also all Epic shields will provide protection against ALL damage types instead of just the regular 2-4 types.
So..according to what I'm looking at in Mids right now if I take a resist based epic shield (Shark Skin) and slot it with 2 resist IOs I will have 70%+ resist to all kinds of damage.
Honestly, I'm a little skeptical of that. I know there are extremely few mistakes/bugs in Mids...but still this is just looking a tad bit ridiculous to me to be able to soft cap resists to easily. And I've never tried Mids with PvP before so I'm not sure how accurate is it on that.
So, can someone confirm/deny this for me please? Thank you very much -
Thank you for the advice. I well tend to that
But now I have another question...
The Guassian's Synchronized Fire Control: Chance for Build up IO...Does it work same as other procs? So, say for example if I slot that in the Tactics toggle. Will it have a chance to proc every 10 seconds? And if it did who will it affect? Only me or anything in range? I'm pretty sure it's only me, but it never hurts to check anyways.
Thanks in advance -
Very true. But I was asking this specifically because my Arch/MM Blaster (my farmer) gets hit often on +2/+3 farms even with ~60% Defence (Pocket emp on follow using Fort). It really annoys me especially since a crit from a boss can outright OHKO me.
-
Quote:If you're aiming for Recharge over 170% aim for over about 178% or so, so you can have Perma hasten. But let me say this in advance, getting this much recharge will involve either investing in a lot of purple sets and "Luck of the Gambler: Recharge Speed" IOs or sacrificing defence boosts. Probably a mix of both for the best results. Each purple set provides 10% Global recharge, and each LotG: Recharge provides 7.5% Global recharge. Up to five times of each. Then you'll have to work with other bonuses like the 6.25% recharge bonus from the Decimation and Positron's blast sets, 5% Global recharge in Obliteration set (in PSW). And don't forget that Hasten in itself provides a 70% Global recharge boost. So you'll want about 108% Global recharge from sets to achieve perma hasten. Just remember that you cannot have more than 5 times of the same bonus regardless of the source. Only exception (in Mids, since in-game they actually have different names) is the LotG: Recharge 7.5% Global recharge bonus, and the 7.5% Global recharge bonus from sets like Basilisk's Gaze. You can have up to 5 of each.Well, with what influence I have right now, I'm just going at my own pace with what I have. But yea, I wanna be a great farmer. But things are expensive so I gotta work with what I have till I can start slotting sets. Which brings up this question? What should I be using for a high recharge and attack build?
I wanna have my recharge rate at least over 170% and be able to do some serious damage. Any suggestions there?
Now, thinking about it logically.. In practice, while farming you don't really need the defence since you *should* finish the mob in your first initial attack salvo. Especially if you farm alone or at least map alone then invite the rest so you won't have bosses. Having some Resist to S/L from an epic shield should be enough. But I can't say that for certain. I'll need to test it first then I'll be able to say for real if it's feasible or not. Just keep in mind that in regular PvE content you'll still be your squishy self since you won't be able to act the same as in a farm and finish mobs as quickly because of your teammates.
About the great damage part. In my experience you should be able to finish a +3 mob of minions easily with RoA -> FoA -> PS. Popping a small red before hand should allow you to take down the Lts. As well.
It's not about pushing the numbers as far as they go, but rather pushing them as far as your need goes.
But please, keep in mind that all I say is pertained to the BM farm. I haven't tried the Demon farm yet, so can't say anything about that.
I'm still very new to farming myself. And finding the "optimal" build for me is gonna take a while with all the trial-and-error involved in it. I'll keep you posted with whatever things I find out.. of course someone who's much more knowledgeable than me might come in and give you the best advice outright. -
Quote:Hmm...You should read this page:
http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Attack_Mechanics
To summarize though, critters don't get a To Hit modifier unless they're +6 above you (unless they have a specific power that grants ones). They do however get an accuracy modifier which you can't defend against.
So basically, there's nothing I can about how much my capped blaster is getting hit. Damn....>_< -
I have another question regarding defence.
We all know that the "soft cap" is 45% to defence because the chance for enemy to hit is 50%.
I also know that for each level the enemy has on you they gain a 5% ToHit bonus. So when fighting +4 enemies their base ToHit chance goes up to 70% instead of 50% right?
So...if I want a toon that has "capped" defence to all possible critters in the game I will need to have 65% Defence. Is this right or am I reading this wrong? -
Quote:IMO, Aid Self is a poor choice for a farmer. If you really want a self-heal switch your Epic to Cold Mastery and pick up Hoarfrost and and Hibernate instead of PFF and Temp Invul.Wow, thanks. I'm deff going for a farming build. I already got my BM farm and I can farm at +1/x8 so far. o.-
I'm trying to find some KB protection WITHOUT Acrobatics; so I can try to fit Aid Self and another power in there.
Quote:I like to use the Aim + Concentration + RoA + Drain Psy + Psy Shockwave combo; it usually wipes everyone out, maybe a couple runners depending on how close together they are.
I was thinking instead of trying to get so much res to S/L, I could go for a high recharge/attack build that could kill everything before they could do any REAL damage to me?
My final question is this. Do you want to be a great farmer? Aiming for the best available Inf+Drops/Time? Or do you wanna go on your own Tempo? I'm guessing from the way you're saying things that you're okay with running at your own tempo and waiting for DP to recharge after each mob. If you're okay with that then you won't really need to go with sets. -
Quote:I totally know what you mean. That's why, IMHO, the best builds are builds that are done by someone, then reviewed by another. To pick up on the minor things like that to help better the build even more. When you start working with builds of this magnitude, you are always talking .% when slotting extra enhancements like the recharge in ROA, or the few points of resistance in Tough, etc.
I guess what you have to do is say, ok, yeah, Im only putting my recharge or resistance up .3-.7, etc., but if I place the enhancements elsewhere, is it only going to do the same thing, or improve things dramatically?
Quote:I think a couple of the things you point out are great, so once I put it together and try it out Ill repost. I do like the idea of placing a Stealth IO in there though. That could only help a blaster. -
Quote:Yes. I tired going without Stamina...big mistake lol. Thanks for all the replies guys. I admit I'm still having a little trouble trying to decide whether or not its worth keeping the Fitness set if I can a high recharge build and just use Drain Psy.
Any opinions on that? o.-
Although it be completely fair my build isn't complete yet. I'll give you the final judgement once it's complete and I've tried it a few. I'm still missing a couple recovery sets. But I don't think it will make much difference. DP is simply not fast enough to keep with you.
EDIT:
If you're short on inf... I can try to help you with a generic IO build. But I'm on an SG team at the moment. I'll get to it a bit later.
What do you want the build for? PvE? Farming? Because an un-IO'd out Blaster is gonna be a really poor farmer.
EDIT 2:
This is a rough sketch of a build using mostly generic IOs. I kept the sets you had in your build, and added some other set IOs, but the ones I added are really cheap so it shouldn't be a problem. I took out the Posi set from Rain of Arrows and put it in Fistful of Arrows so I can frankenslot RoA for max damage and recharge while getting accuracy in there as well. You *really* don't need Super Jump and Acrobatics. The Karma KB I put in combat jumping should be more than enough. If you still want more KB protection you can take one of the defence IO slots in Weave and switch it to Tough, and put the Steadfast KB Protection IO there. Both Karma KB and Steadfast KB are relatively cheap to get, whether via inf or Merits. Psychic Scream does great damage (a bit more than Psychic Shockwave actually), you will WANT that in your Build. Aim -> Concentrate -> Rain of Arrows -> Fistful of Arrows -> Psychic Scream combo from the distance should be able to take out +2 mobs with Lieutenants. or +3 minions. TK thrust is kind of a "Oh ****!" button. If a boss closes in on you you can use it to toss him back accross the map and take it down before it reaches you back.
Keep in mind what while slotting, adding more than 3 of the same IO to a power is next to useless since it only adds 1% or so to the benefit after the third one. So only put 3 damages/recharges/end redux/whatever in any chosen power. Checking the lower left box in mids for the effects of the power and your enhancements is a good idea as well. Since it will tell you exactly how much the IO you've placed will boost the power.

Considering that you can make a (virtually) unlimited number of personal SGs for storage, I think it's kind of a moot point to restrict the amount of Storage in a single base.
-
Wow. Awesome thread with awesome drawings. Thanks for sharing! Hope you keep'em coming!
If I didn't live halfway across the world I'd totally get to Hero Con just for one of those! -
Quote:Soul where that build runs into trouble at is the reliance on Drain Psyche to keep your blue bar up. You have less than 1.0 Usage to Recovery differential WITH the endo accolades, and on a blaster where you are wanting to fire off rapid chains, thats not good at all. In fact thats kind of nasty in a bad way.
On non S/L mishes in tough TF's, etc., I like not having to wade into enemies and pop an AOE just to NOT suck wind all the time when firing off rapid attacks.
And remember- and this is what I had to point out to my friend that had a similar build like yours- Drain Psyche does 0 DMG, but on your build, you're forced to run in every time its up to keep respective blue (Well, as long as youre wanting to keep firing off those AOE chains).
Instead of having to use it when its not necessary, you could be casting another AOE, maybe 2 in the time it takes you to run into the mob group, hit it, and get realigned after PS. Another Arch/MM Blaster who does not have to rely on it as a fitness tool is going to do much more AOE DMG than you much quicker over the course of a map. Plus, when they do use it, its going to be when they need it the most, and for a blaster, thats usually a much needed +Regen for the healing. I know it doesnt sound like a lot on a forum, but trust me, it translates into a lot in-game when you're not having to use it aimlessly.
Heres my take on the build I made for a friend...He absolutely loves it. Its non stop carnage in S/L mishes, as he never has to use DP, and on tough TF's or AV mishes, he loves that he has a great self heal AND Hibernoob. If you'd like his opinion, he's @Rise of Science on Justice.

Also, IMO, I would keep Mind Probe. Your a Blaster. High DMG is your friend.
That's a very, very, very nice build. Saying in my favor though, I only have two purple sets :P
But still, even on paper that build looks amazing. I can tell why your friend loves it. it's quite sturdy and has hefty recharge, not the best farmer build, but still really nice.
Now, in practice, I admit that the extra damage from Assault is pretty useless to me. Since I can take +2 mobs (speaking about Minions) with RoA + PSW or RoA -> FoA -> PS alone without it...with Aim+Concentrate before hand of course. And that extra damage doesn't allow me to take Lts or Bosses down without extra attacks either. And I have to admit that the End problems are bigger than I thought. DP isn't up often enough for my End needs even with Perma Hasten. But I still gotta say that your take on the extra time needed to use DP isn't really true. THe way I use DP only takes 2 extra seconds since I queue it up between RoA and PSW and in reality the downtime because of it is next to nothing because of the way RoA is. DP and PSW are fired off before RoA finishes it's animation.
Now...I actually have some advice about your build. Not sure if you or your friend will look at them, but IMO it would make for a better build. Just consider it a return favor for showing me such a great build
1) The two additional slots in Tough only grant you 0.1 End/Sec reduction and 4% S/L Resist. They can be used much better in other places. Put one of those Slots in Health and throw in the [Numina unique] (that makes up for the loss of End Redux in Tough and gives you additional Recovery and Regen too). Put the other one in Combat Jumping and throw in the [Karma KB protection IO]. No KB protection in the build really got to me lol. I chose Combat Jumping/Karma because you can keep the protection when exemped for one, and second the Karma is usually cheaper than the Steadfeast one.
2) The generic Recharge IO in Rain of Arrows is really not useful at all. Only cuts 0.7 seconds off the recharge.
3) I have three Blasters with Hibernoob. And you *really* don't need more than one recharge in Hibernoob ESPECIALLY with Hoarfrost in hand.
4) The two slots from above can go in Hoarfrost. Frankenslot with [Numina's: Heal/Recharge], [Doctored Wounds: Heal/Recharge], [Miracle: Heal/Recharge], and [Miracle: Heal/End Redux/Recharge]. That will pump up the healing amount of Hoarfrost from 30% to 58%, the extra Max HP from 30% to 44% AND reduces the recharge time by an additional 7 seconds plus gives you the recovery bonus from having two Miracles.
5) Optional: Personally, I would replace the [Quickfoot IO] in Super Speed with a [Celerity: +Stealth IO]. That will give you A bit over Invisibility stealth status while SS is turned on. Extremely useful for sneaking up inside a mob to setup for DP, and in those missions where you want to stealth/rush to the boss (especially if he has the Team Recall vet power).
That's about it. Minor change but IMO will make for a better build overall.

Actually I keep a text file with all the different binds I use. Copying the one I need to use on a new toon is very quick and simple from it since I most often have it loaded while playing CoH :P

Quote:Defense debuffs subtract from your "base defense" stat. This stat is normally 0%: debuffs lower it, while almost no powers raise it. I believe it's raised temporarily by purple inspirations.
Well, defence granted by powers from secondary sets like Super Reflexes or Shield defence is affected by Defence debuffs, so...Honestly I'm not sure how to interpret your answer =/

Defense debuffs subtract from your defense globally, every value will be reduced by the number of the defense debuff.
The only thing that will change that is having "defense debuff resistance" but again, DDR is global so it's really very simple.
Another question that popped into my mind... Say you're a defender running Maneuvers (let's assume it's slotted with 3 Defence IOs). That's 5.5% global defence to you and everyone in range. Then you get hit by a defence debuff that (imaginary numbers) debuffs your defence by 5%. Going by what you say your defence will drop by 5% leaving you at 0.5% defence. That won't affect the other people receiving your buff will it?
And then, if say, you're someone who's in range for said Maneuvers and you get hit by the same attack. Your defence will drop down to 0.5%, what happens when you exit the Aura's range and enter it again? Will your defence by "reset" to 5.5%?
