Maybe I'm weird, but... I don't go with model sheets drawn by artists.

I pull screenies from the Costume Creator (front, side, back, facial closeup) and then include any OTHER details I think are needed to flesh out the character. Composite all that together in an image, upload to DA Scraps, add the text notes, and link to a "Character References" page for easy retrieval.

Of course I've seen LOTS of 'artist interpretation', but unless I'm paying a hefty sum on a commission, I don't make a big deal about it. Shoot, SoulTrain's emblem becoming a necklace was Poison's idea, and it turned out so cool I've specified it to nearly everyone else.

Now granted, a well-drawn character reference (inc. color swatches, detail shots, etc) is an invaluable resource. I'm just not of the mind that I need them, all that much.

And he's a wizard when it comes to comic panels - when Teri-Minx and I scripted out the 'scene' we wanted for "Soul and Tiamat", he went nuts with the pencils and we both said "That's IT! Run with it!" with hardly any revisions at all. The only tricky part was the incidental lighting, and that turned out great too.

Example: An artist is hired by Disney to produce a movie poster. Disney retains the copyright to the characters AND the movie, and because the artist is paid 'for hire' they are not allowed to reproduce the work for profit or claim it as their own work without Disney's sign-off.

Example two: A private buyer commissions an artist to produce a work. The artist is not constrained from signing the work as their own - in fact, the commissioning party prefers that they do, for the name recognition as well as authenticity.

In both cases, the artist is compensated for the work, but only one allows them to 'claim' it as their own.

He has an artist under contract. Not sure if that contract has asserted copyright (basically the artist would be doing 'for-hire' and may or may not be allowed to sign the work.) That, you would have to ask Jomaro about.
