I like this idea a lot, definitely in the direction I was trying to convey. I'm not a fan of spam any more than anyone else and my suggestion was simply meant for SG purposes only. I'm just looking for a system that allows for better ingame SG communication rather than depending on websites. Some players prefer to login to the game over checking in to a website first. Adding some of the flexibility that a website offers ingame would help keep more people involved.

Something you didn't bring up that I really think needs to change ingame, as I've had many discussions (even very early on pre-COV), is the way SG recruiting is handled. Currently, if you want more members, then you have to pretty much SPAM a channel (if you're new to the concept), random invite (VERY bad form!), or post here (not a bad idea really). If you're wanting into a group, then you have to either come here and hope somebody's reading, team with people and hope they like you enough to let you in (generally not a problem, just sayin), or half a million other ways I've missed.

What "I" would like to see is an ingame method (with ingame help/explainations in the tutorials) to where any toon can goto say the Terminals or the SG registration person(s) and either create (SL) or submit (applicant) and application for admission. It's not like the concept is completely foreign as we do the same thing for jobs, forum logins, college, etc. It's a form, you answer questions, and get a reply.

On the SG side of things, allow the Super Leader to assign a rank minimum that is allowed to accept/reject admissions. Give the option to ban/ignore specific globals (with option to unban for the reformed). Make this all work on a non-realtime basis.

After reading/writing all of this it truely sounds like there simply needs to be a revamp of the SGs at this sort of level. I hope that somebody who's in the position to put this on the dev table reads this as this would make SG management so much easier while keeping things like SPAM and undesireables undercontrol. For that matter, sticky this to get an idea of how the community thinks about it.
That would be a great idea to allow players interested in joining particular groups to apply at the registrar's desk. And in the interest of controlling spam, create settings that allow officers to control how many applicants can apply in a given day or week perhaps. Also allow officers to enter global blocks to prevent undesirables from attempting to re-enter the group.

They are dead set against adding anything that makes managing solo SG's easier.
The offline promote/demote suggestion relates more to characters already in the SG. I feel it would be helpful in reorganizing a roster rather than simply removing people especially in cases where a player holding an officer position has a RL situation preventing them from logging in at a convenient time for the SL to demote them.

Also if SG titles are used more so for RP purposes, the offline promote/demote feature would make rearrangement a very simple matter. This would favor very large SG's; its easier to delegate tasks to one or two people rather than trying to coordinate efforts with a multitude of people.
  3. I started this thread with the intent to get feedback from the Development Team and other players. I’ve been very encouraged by the overall direction of City of Heroes, in particular with the ever increasing costume and powerset additions. I would like to see that same attention and creativity directed toward enhancing the ingame Supergroup experience. As a long time SG leader, I’d like to begin with group management enhancements I’d like to see added:

Promote/Demote offline characters- a much needed feature to allow easy roster configurations when dealing with players across multiple time zones. This feature would also come in handy when a retooling of an inactive roster is in order (kicking/removing characters shouldn’t be the only resolution). Also it’s not always practical to assume existing officers can make the time to be available to promote new members into appropriate roster spots; this feature would add some much needed flexibility.

Email Utilization- A more traditional email system incorporating the ability to cc other players and/or group categories to send out mass emails to SG mates and potential recruits. This would be a luxury considering many players frequent City of Heroes much more than their respective SG websites. The cc feature would also allow streamline communication between officers of spinoff and coalition groups. The option to send ingame emails to a character rather than their global handle would be handy as well.

Base Designer specialty title/rank- Current settings allow for all who share a particular rank the ability to alter the base, which can lead to the problem of “too many chefs in the kitchen” syndrome at times. Having a singular title would eliminate potential drama and also allow SG’s to hire outside base designers without having to worry about potential conflicts disturbing team chemistry.

Supergroup “Message of the Day” Pop-up Feature – The current MOTD feature is under used and adding a pop up feature that could bring more attention to group event and activities similar to how we receive alerts ingame for game updates and bugs. To add a bit of uniqueness, this feature could allow for color palette and team logo options as part of the message. The Pop up feature could also incorporate reminder capabilities that can be switched on and off or delayed (think MS Outlook).

I hope this thread begins some much needed discussion for SG improvements. Any feedback and constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated.
