  1. Character Name: Sol-Ar

Origin Story: Seeing how some of my fellow Whitmoore neighbors are in on this, I figured I would join in on the fun as well!

    Sol-Ar
    Real Name: David Clemmons
Occupation: Professor of Criminal Psychology at Paragon City University
    AT: Invul/Super Strength Tank
Background: David Clemmons was the stereotypical nerd throughout his school years. He was skinny, unathletic, and always had his nose in a book. His studious habits assisted him in completing a Master's Degree in Abnormal Psych, specializing in the Criminal Mindset. A native of Paragon City, David naturally applied for a job at the University and was pleasantly surprised when they hired him. He has worked his way up to full professorship, teaching mostly criminal justice courses and abnormal psych classes focusing on the criminal mind.
During the Rikti War, David did what most other powerless citizens of the city did: He tried to stay out of the heroes' ways as they fought the threat. He longed to help out, but he was sure that his limited field of knowledge and lack of physical ability would be of no use to anyone besides his students. But, being a civic minded individual, he still volunteered his time to assisting in charity functions and supporting the local heroes of the city whenever he could. His particular 'politics' towards metas didn't make him popular with his boss, the Dean of the criminology department who made no secret about resenting metas and 'heroes', but David didn't care. He felt they did important and selfless work, and should be applauded for their efforts, not resented for their abilities.
The Dean's stiff nosed attitudes towards David changed from indifference to almost blatant hostility when the most important even in David's life occurred: He became a hero himself. David's absentmindedness actually led to the events that resulted in him living out a childhood dream:
He had been walking home from teaching late one May evening, enjoying the sunshine caressing his face as he went through the familiar neighborhoods. When he passed through one old back lot that he had traversed hundreds of times before, he noticed the sunlight glint off something in the ground across the way. Curious, David approached the object, noticing a piece of metal stuck in the dirt at his feet. Kneeling down, David had cleared off the dust as best he could, and noticed strange markings on the object. The more he rubbed, the more he uncovered, until it became apparent that the object in questions was some sort of missile left over from the clashes during the Rikti War. Excitement coursed through David, and he let his fingers reach under the missile, attempting to pry it up from the dirt that held it...and that is when his life changed forever.
What David had no way of knowing was that the weapon in question was an experimental Rikti Radiation Bomb. It was designed to destroy any organic matter its light touched upon detonation, but it never had a chance to reach its intended target. While streaking across the sky, it had been knocked off course by one of Paragon City's heroes, her radiation beam striking the bomb and scrambling its internal machinery and programming. The bomb had crashed 'harmlessly' into the old lot David had discovered it in, buried and waiting for someone to find it...and David had activated it by touching it.
A flash of light had soundlessly exploded out of the bomb blinding David and lighting up the sky. The silent explosion was bright enough to temporarily over power the sun, and draw the attention of the nearby residents. When they arrived, they found David unconscious and the object he had been touching a melted slag stuck in the ground.
They had immediately called for medical aid, and David was rushed to the hospital. Doctors were baffled by some of the readings they were getting off of his body, they were unable to make heads or tails of his vital signs. His body seemed to be expending tremendous amounts of energy, but his heart rate remained steady throughout the entire process. They also noticed that after the first few hours, David seemed...taller, and slightly more filled out.
They couldn't find any way to halt the progress of whatever was happening to him, or to wake him up. David remained unconscious for two whole days while his skeletal and muscular system underwent radical alterations. When he finally woke up, he was more shocked than anyone else to discover the differences in him:
He now stood slightly over seven feet tall, and weighed over 400 lbs of solid muscle! He was grateful that the process had left him with the normal proportions of a man, so he simply looked like someone who had spent their entire life in a gym...lifting freight trains for exercise.
Further tests proved that even stranger changes had taken place on a basic cellular level within David's body. The Rikti weapon had, instead of emitting light and destroying his organic matter, reprogrammed his DNA and cell structure to absorb light and other energy wavelengths to turn them into energy for his body to use. Some benefits of this change were immediately apparent: David now found himself to be super strong and almost entirely impervious to pain or injury.
Although concerned with the changes to himself, he knew he had to use these new found abilities to aid his fellow citizen. Donning a costume, David decided on the hero name of Sol-Ar, dedicated to the fact he could absorb solar radiation to power himself, and set out to help Paragon City. Over the course of his career, David's abilities have strengthened and several new powers have cropped up. It seems that with more and more energy being absorbed into his being, his body channels that excess energy to new and varied abilities.
He still teaches over at Paragon City University, but has now become the pet project of his boss, the Dean, who is looking for any excuse to fire him. As his exploits have become better know however, his class attendance has exploded, making him one of the more popular professors on campus. As an added bonus, he can now include personal examples of the criminal mind at work for his students based upon the cases he has handled.
In recent times David has moved into The Whitmoore Apartment Complex, to be closer to other heroes and find some security in his 'home'. He feels the work he does at the University with young people is as important if not more so than what he does in his tights, and continues to teach enthusiastically. He has also become romantically involved with another Whitmoore resident, his neighbor Helen who is also known as the hero Steel Magnolia.
As a hero already in his forties of Security Levels, David has access to a massive amount of money and acclaim. He has also managed to reach the cap on all his resistances and defenses, making him the embodiment of the word 'Tank'.
    Height: 7'2"
    Weight: 425 lbs of muscle
Hair: Short, black, combed to one side
Eyes: Brown (Wears glasses when in civilian clothes, although he doesn't need them anymore. Had them switched to plate glass, no longer a prescription)
Costume: Upper body is blue tights with white stripes going down the insides of his arms and along his rib cage to his belt. His chest sports a red starburst symbol outlined in yellow. His belt is a plain white metal belt with a yellow buckle. His lower body has white briefs over blue tights that fit into white tight boots. The entire uniform is completed with a red ankle length cape that is secured in front of his chest with a golden brooch.
Personality: David is a realist, knowing he can't save everyone all the time. That being said, he has still dedicated himself to assisting anyone who needs his help in the city. One of the last living examples of chivalry, David acts the proper gentleman most of the time. The only time his behavior changes is when he sees a crime committed against an innocent, and he can do nothing to prevent it. Then an internal rage consumes him, making him see red and lash out at the villain who is committing the crime.
David has also realized that he is more resistant to damage than many of his fellow heroes, and selflessly volunteers to go in first in any combat situation. He would rather see himself injured than watch as a team mate or fellow hero takes a blow he himself could have accepted.

Theme Song: Holding Out For A Hero by Bonnie Tyler

Why That Song?: David has long been a hero in his own soul, but felt he had nothing to offer to the world outside of his influence on young minds. Once the accident occurred that gave him his powers, he dedicated himself to righting wrongs, defending those who could not defend themselves, and standing for Truth, Justice, and Hope in Paragon City. He knows things are bad out there, but he won't stop fighting until he can make his contributions to making things right again!
  2. David had been over in the tutor lounge, helping one of his students try to understand the difference between sociopaths and psycopaths, as well as Multiple Personality Disorders and schizophrenia. Bobby, the boy in question, seemed to grasp the gulf between the first two fairly rapidly, but the second pair were giving him problems. David mentally sighed, blaming the general entertainment media for the boy's confusion: Too many 'based upon true story' movies of the week had come out, claiming one was the other, serving to make his job harder at the University.
He had been a full professor here for a little over a year, teaching criminal psych, and enjoyed working with the students. He felt his job here was more important than the one he did outside these walls, in his costumed hero identity of Sol-Ar. Even though he had been working for the protection of innocents as Sol-Ar for only most of the last year, he still felt he made a difference in the future of some of the next generation in both capacities, teacher and hero. In fact, in his own mind the two roles were interchangible, for all teachers were heroes, and some heroes were teachers.
When he heard the crash outside the lounge, he glanced up from the chart they had been using to indicate the various characteristics of each condition. Pushing his glasses back up the bridge of his nose, he smiled at Bobby and held up his index finger, saying in a deep rumbling baritone:
"Excuse me one second, will you?"
Standing up, he marched over to the open doorway to find two students meeting each other's eyes. The girl was on the floor, glaring up at the boy, who seemed slightly dazed and confused, and almost ready to apologize. David cleared his throat slightly to get their attention, then smiled brightly down at them, his voice soft but carrying easily to them:
"Accidents do happen around here, I'm sure the young man didn't mean to bump into you. And please, try to avoid loud noises or colorful language in the library in the future? It is a place of learning after all...ok?"

[David Clemmons/Sol-Ar- 7'2" tall, over 400 lbs of solid muscle. Is in normal human proportions, simply looks like he spends the majority of the day in the gym...lifting freight trains. Black hair, brown eyes, currently wearing a custom made grey business suit, black rimmed round glasses adorn his face. Will describe his hero costume when and if it is needed.]

  4. I'm in if we do this this weekend at some point. Otherwise, I am traveling over the holiday and will be without COH access from the 21Dec-4Jan. Sorry about that, but Id be happy to meet anyone on the test server at any time after that
  5. Harrier,
I am so sorry to hear about your loss, all our hopes and prayers go out to you and yours as well as the family of the deceased in this time. I'm sure we all understand your need for some time and space, hang in there and let us know if you need anything.
  6. Ok, I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm hurt! I thought we were all becoming Riley's friends, or at least working on it...and it seems that he's at least a little interested in becoming friends with a certain femal mage who shall remain nameless? ;-D LOL Just kiddin' ya Averick, couldn't let that pass. Oh, and speaking of passing, here's a tissue, you got some tears still running down your cheeks! Cya man!
  7. We only RPed together a short time, but I enjoyed every one of your posts Harrier. Going to miss having you in the game, but here's to hoping you will still have some spare time somewhere down the road to let the Dark Harrier stick his head out of his apartment in Whitmoore to make sure all of us didn't bring the building down around his place yet! LOL Gonna miss ya bud, be safe out there, and always remember: If you're not having fun doing what it is you're doing...you're doin' it wrong! ;-D Cya around!
  8. Sol-Ar flashed from the lake, sending water splattering outwards as he roared towards the creature preparing to stomp out the life of a katana wielding hero who had probably saved his life by distracting the creature for a vital moment he needed to reorganize himself. He wasn't sure what was going on around here, but all he knew he had to concentrate on was stopping this thing.
With a monumental two fisted blow, he crashed his knuckles into the thing's spine, only managing to make it turn it's attention back to him and away from the fallen hero, but that was enough for now. He was glad to know he was able to return the favor for the sword wielder, but kept his focus on the task at hand: Stopping this thing.
Planting his feet solidly before his foe, he silently vowed to himself that the thing wasn't going to move him again, not until one of them was down. He was doing his job as a tank, drawing all the creatures rage and attention to himself, giving the others the opportunity they needed to gather their forces and strike. Realizing this was probably the last fight of his life, he let loose with everything he had, crashing blows upon his opponent that would have shattered small buildings easily, doing everything he could to keep the creature focused on him, and trying to stop it at the same time.
Judging by the expression on the thing's face, he was at least succeeding in annoying it, as it kept roaring loudly in his face and continued to meet him punch for punch in the middle of the park, the force of their blows causing the trees around them to break and topple over, creating an epicenter in the destruction that was easy to see from the air...
  9. Sol-Ar shakes his head to clear the last of the cobwebs out from that last blow that had flung him like a rag doll against the titanium doors. He had never been hit that hard in his life, and he was fairly certain that if that blow had landed before his power up inside the Terra Volta Reactor, it would have removed his head from his shoulders. Charging forwards to engage the creature, their bodies slammed together powerfully enough to send a shock wave rippling through the air.
Using all the strength he had, Sol-Ar began to pummel the creature with a lightning fast series of blows, slamming his fists into it's head, throat, chest, stomach, chin, anything his knuckles could connect with. He didn't let up for a second, his stamina and accuracy of blows fueled by his rage and determination. While he was doing this, he felt return blows raining down upon him from the creature, but he couldn't afford to let up for a second to feel the pain.
The two combatants stood toe to toe, slamming blow after blow into one another, shaking the very ground they were battling upon, sending concussion shock waves out into the air surrounding them with each punch that landed, each determined that they would not be the first to give ground or rest...
  10. Sol-Ar decided he had held back long enough in the fight, and planted himself in front of the creature. Releasing all his pent up rage at the creatue, he slammed his right fist into it's face with all the power he could muster, determined to rain blow after blow down on it until it dropped...
  11. Sol-Ar listened as the workers and police scrambled around them to transport the wounded, moving only as fast as their injuries would allow. Once he saw Calash ignite into flames, he smiled grimly and nodded. Although he was standing right next to the cyborg, his body registered none of the heat obviously coming off the hero.
He heard Capt Fletcher's words as they were about to close off the second portal to the city, wanting to wait to see how successful he and Calash would be against this thing and hoping against hope for higher level heroes to arrive and help. Raising his voice so he could be heard over the constant metalic banging sound of the creature's fists slamming into barrier before it, he called back over his shoulder:
"You might want to close that thing, just in case we can't hold it back! If more heroes show they can at least form a second front where this thing will be forced to go, bottlenecking it at the entrance to Atlas Park!"
The words were no sooner out of his mouth than the door before them exploded inwards, a giant grey hand with bony spikes along the knuckles showing through the opening, surrounded by the scrapped remains of a green glove.
Sol-Ar felt his stomach flutter and tighten all at the same time as he took in the massive size, power, and obvious viciousness of the enemy they were facing. Focusing his mind on all the innocents that would suffer if he and Calash were not able to stop this thing, or at least slow it down, he found his inner calm and resolve. He felt his powers growing inside him, his rage at the horror and destruction this thing seemed to thrive on growing stronger, and he knew he would be in for the fight of his life. Slowly forming his hands into fists, he took one step forwards so he was out of Calash's line of fire, but still the closer one to the creature. He narrowed his gaze, his face settled with resolve and purpose, his voice ringing with authority:
"End of the line, whatever you are...your rampage ends here!"
  12. Sol-Ar's mouth turned into a grim determined line as he heard the Captain's statement of the facts so far. Glancing around, he took in the young scared faces of some of the heroes surrounding him. He saw determination and hope there as well, and he turned back to the Captain as he replied:
"I can get people out of here in a hurry if you need me to, anyone in need of immediate medical treatment I can take first to the hospital. If you can handle the evac with whatever materials you have at hand, I can at least try to buy you some time as a rear guard, try to slow this thing down..." and he glanced back at the door as he watched the dent grow steadily larger, his voice taking on an uncertain quality: "...somehow."
Then the cyborg arrived, and Sol-Ar turned to glance in his direction. He was glad to have some other higher level heroes on hand for the situation, until he heard the estimate on how long the door would stand: Five minutes.
His tone was precise as his eyes never left the door: "Captain, that's not alot of time. In fact it might take me longer to start transporting everyone back and forth from the hospital before this thing makes it's way through the door. I suggest you gather some civilian vehicles and start transporting everyone out of here who can and is willing to go. Also, you might want to get over to City Hall personally and try to explain to them the situation we have here, just in case they think this is not a high priority threat yet."
Sol-Ar kept his eyes on the door, but directed his next comment to the newly arrived Cyborg: "Glad you could make it to the party. My name is Sol-Ar, nothing too fancy in my powers, I can just take and dish alot of damage. How about you, anything you have in your bag of tricks that can help us slow this thing down?"
  13. It had been a weird week for Sol-Ar. After finally managing to attain a Security Level of 34, he got a call from one of his contacts in Independence Port, telling him the Terra Volta Reactor was under attack...again! He had flown over there as fast as he could, relieved to see that others had answered the call as well. As a Tank, he was used to being the first one through any door the group went through, taking the majority of damage aimed at the heroes...and he had done exactly that inside the reactor, thrown himself in the line of fire time and again, while his teammates ensured the reactor stayed cool and intact throughout the numerous waves of attacks against it. In the end, himself and one other had been the only two left standings, the villians and other heroes laid around them defeated.
That had only been the begining of his troubles, because after leaving the reactor he had been told to get checked out for radiation poisoning! Turns out he didn't have that particularly nasty side effect hit him from being inside a nuclear reactor running at three hundred percent non-stop throughout the battle, thank goodness...but he still didn't escape unscathed. Turns out the radiation altered his genetic structure more than it had already been tampered with when that Rikti Light Emitting Bomb had exploded in his face, first granting him his powers to absorb sunlight.
Through careful experimentation, Sol-Ar discovered that not everything that had changed had been bad. He could no longer ancor himself to the earth as he once could, unmoving from even the most powerful of blows, unyielding to any force trying to move him...but he had gained new abilities as well. In place of his Unyielding Stance, he found himself now to be almost truely unstoppable, his endurance and abilities increased to before unimaginable level: He could now fly almost as fast as some of his superspeed friends. When before he had been using his super strength to knock his enemies into the air and stun them for three follow up blows that would put them down, he had struck one Crey Protector so hard he had launched the man four stories up into the air, sending him crashing back to earth unconsious! But the biggest difference was in his ability to take damage. Before he had taken missiles and rockets point blank in the face without flinching, bullets had bounced off his costume and skin without leaving a trace...but since coming out of the reactor his Invulnerability seemed to have gone into overdrive. He had waded into the middle of a group of 15 Rikti Communication Officers, Monkeys, and Swordsmen that were threatening to take down two lower level heroes...and come out on top! Not only that, he had not been hurt once throughout the entire exchange! Blows had landed, he was sure, but none of them really effected him, and he was starting to become scared about what had happened to him inside that reactor.
His thoughts of worry were soon cut short when he heard reports coming over his commlink unit about a massive disturbance coming from one of the entry control points in the city. Wondering what could possibly be giving one of those re-enforced secure areas a problem, and wanting to lend a hand if he could, he turned his flight towards the area in question, his ankle length red cape fluttering behind him. He became a streak of blue and red as he sped across the sky, his thought turning to concern for the dedicated men and women of the PCPD who manned those points, wondering if they were alright.
He landed a few seconds after the call went out, his red boots gently touching the ground. Walking over to a man who was chewing a cigar, wearing officer ranks, and obviously in charge, Sol-Ar glanced over and his eyes widened as he saw the damage on the screen the man was looking at. His eyes grew wider as he took in the steady dent being pounded into what he had once thought were indestructible doors.
He soon put on a serious face though as he saw the carnage this creature was raining down on the other side of the doors, and he could see the wounded and crippled laying at it's feet.
"Anything I can do to help sir?"
