The whole system would seem to lose it's meaning pretty fast if it would take a relatively short amount of time to complete every job.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sigh, you missed the point as well.
720 hours of play is more than enough time to get to level 50. 240 hours for 2 hours of bonus seems a bit off too. -

Unless they do expect people to actively collect them, and they expect people to spend a year collecting them.

Um, you didn't see these points in the announcement:

The point I'm trying to make is that it would take well over a year to complete the badges...
The other point is that while they wanted to make it non-trivial to earn the bonuses, I think they went too far in the opposite direction (as usual). -
My questions to the developers are the following:
- Why 24 hour blocks of time instead of 8 (ie a "normal" workday)?
Follow up question: Why didn't you cap it at a max 8 hours of off-line time per 24 hours or real time? This would allow people to play their characters, yet get the awards at the same time as everyone else. - Why the fudge 30 days? Given that an in game day is 30 minutes, that means if you have to spend 720 hours off-line your character has "worked" 1,440 [edit] days (thanks Arcanville for pointing this typo out)[/edit] to get a single badge. I'm a fan of "nice round numbers", but yikes.
Related question: What is 720 hours compared to "average life to 50"? I'm quite sure you have that metric by now for comparison. If not, why not? - Double XP does a level 50 how much good?
- Why not cap being on patrol at another 8 hours per diem? This combined with the day jobs capped lets players play a total of 8 hours without interfering with the reward.
- Exactly how many of these jobs are there?
- How many day jobs do you expect players to be able to get?
- Why 24 hour blocks of time instead of 8 (ie a "normal" workday)?

Why no fan art? That's the only reason I look at it, to be honest.

As Frost said, that section was AWOL during production last week. Also submissions are way down. -

Why is everyone so excited? i'm quite happy with the current layout i don't see why it needs changed.
And how come some threads are working, but all the AT threads are completely gone?
[/ QUOTE ]
It isn't the layout that is the problem (well, mostly).
UBB is slow, a resource hog, and doesn't have some nifty features that would be a nice improvement for posting/reading the forums. Like the spoiler tag.
As to why the sections are missing, it is likely a glitch with UBB. You know, the software you are wondering why everyone is so happy to get rid of?
Edit:
See this post by Lighthouse. -

I have a feeling that the guys who are using vBulliten on Warez sites aren't paying for it anywaySo it's kinda hard to revoke a license that doesn't exist.

This too. -

By the letter of the law, its actually fine and dandy to discriminate "end users" so long as you outline it in your agreement (within some obviously common sense reasoning). However even software user agreements have been a focus in court battles... they're numbers are only sure to grow. Yet in the case of VB, there isn't a disclaimer outlining that you can't use it for hosting adult material, and when you receive the cease and desist letter, your payment is not refunded. As one can imagine, that's already a frowned matter (just apply it to something else).
So yea... its really a big 'ole nasty mess, that's going to get sorted out sooner or later. But given there are larger legal matters being pressed in the superior and supreme courts - not to mention no one has seriously has challenged VB in court about it (yet at least) - its mostly a "nerdrage" issue. Doesn't mean there isn't a problem... or that it won't get legally addressed at some point.

You are fighting a losing battle here. Even though there have been lawsuits, to my knowledge every single suit has failed to break any EULA.
The Game's EULA, the existing Forums Terms of Use, NCsoft's Rules of Conduct all spell out ways that NCsoft could do the exact same thing to any player (ie ban and the player forfeits any payment).
In fact all software that is licensed have terms that the company can revoke the license from someone.
Get over it. -

While I'm glad that the forums are (finally!) getting an upgrade, I'm not glad that it's to vBulliten. They should have gone with Invision Power Board instead.
[/ QUOTE ]
They did test IPB and phpBB as well, but they didn't have the features that NCNC felt they needed. -

Hold it. When are the freakshow contest winners being posted? I've been on PINS and needles since I entered. Not trying to be impatient, was a great City Scoop.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry, the staff person (Marcian Tobay) running the contest was having internet access issues, and was hoping to be back this week.
If he doesn't appear soon, I'll get someone else to grab the entries and judge the contest. -

Well, online MMORPG's are no substitute for schoolwork, so make finals ur top priority.
[/ QUOTE ]
I know (which is why I have a 3.8 GPA). Anyways my finals for the quarter were done as of the 16th. I'm on a break until the beginning of next month.

I was just saying what was told to me. The last few weeks have been hectic for me with school finals.

So I spend 6 weeks just trying to get someone to respond to my PM so I can submit my base to the City Scoop.
And now you're not even going to show it.
Nice.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ok, looking over our workflow:
You've have had another base featured recently, and we wanted to give others a chance to show off their bases as well.
Your starship base is in the lineup to be featured, even to the point of accidentally making it to the proofreading stage.
I'd expect that you will see it soon™. -
Yes, not everything submitted gets put into the Scoop (even I've done a few things that had to be pulled).
Peregrine_Falcon, if you can PM me the full info (with picture links), I will see what is going on. I'll make no promises that it will be in the Scoop, but I will look over it.
Teldon, while I appreciate the sentiment, it was something I was going to investigate this week. -
It was finished late in the afternoon. Lighthouse must have been sidetracked.
Also, yeah, no Arbiter Fabulous this week (September 19th) either. -

Question...if I buy the temp jetpack, and 25 days later buy it again...when does the temp jetpack expire? 35 days from the second purchase (5 days remaining on first purchase + 30 new days), 30 days from the second purchase (the 5 days remaining are wiped out as it resets the timeout to 30 days), or 5 days from the second purchase (it doesn't reset the timeout if you already have it)? Clearly, as players we expect 35 days, but for the game cards, I think someone said we had to let the jetpack expire before we applied the new one.

Well, TA should know, as he had the position and didn't do much with it.

Actually when i had the position i did do alot with it. As i explained elsewhere but obviously it never landed quite right.
RL PWNS da internet.
Alot of things have kept me from contributing like i had in the past and it's not like i'm happy about that. I'd love to be representing the art forums again. Maybe when things irl ease up i will.
So again....wheres the artz?
[/ QUOTE ]
If you can find the time again, we'd love to have someone representing the arts again.
For the record, I meant after I started being EiC (in other words when I was forced to take a look at who was doing what). Which likely corresponded with your real life stuff. -
His comments or mine?
Seriously, the EiC position in the Scoop generally has the life expectancy of a Spinal Tap drummer and we've had more Art people disappear than EiCs. -

Hey Grey. With your Fan Fiction review, you didnt leave a link to connect to the rest of the story.
Can you post it here so I can check it out?

Sorry, the link got lost somewhere in the proofing.

So I respond to a "Guest Writers for the Scoop Wanted" classified, confirm I'm writing a guest article, and then my article gets shunted into Classifieds itself. What a waste of my time.
[/ QUOTE ]
Erm, I'm sorry it did read a bit like a classified. I am the one that gave layout the choice of using it as a regular article or classified. However, it was included.
I will admit that I dropped the ball a tiny bit due to finals for my school quarter being this week (last 2 weeks of post secondary is rough), and not having a backup EiC since Pants_Stealer left.
I don't know what else to say besides that I will try not to make the same mistake again.
