I was reading the above quote and I had a thought: Is it possible to overcome the "sliver of life" by slotting a fourth Damage SO in all your attacks?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't think so. That fourth damage SO equates to about 5% base damage. At level 50, we're talking about total focus doing an additional 10 points of damage. The "sliver" is ordinarily not *that* much of a sliver. But its difficult to be sure: even assault is only roughly +10% base damage, only twice the strength of that fourth damage SO.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    darn

I had my fingers crossed that I had just stumbled upon the new slotting sensation of 2007...

...back to the drawing board for me.
  2. [ QUOTE ]
I just want to post some a few comments before I head off into obscurity.

What Arcanaville describes when she mentions the "sliver of health" is something I think every blaster sees. In fact, several blasters, includeing those in this thread have pointed out in multiple other threads that they wished their snipe or some other attack did just a little more damage as without a build-up or aim type power they left a "sliver of health"

This becomes more obvious in the AR and Archery sets which are lethal based for the most part and it makes sense for those sets to leave that little sliver of health considering mob resistances.

It is interesting to me, the contrast between pre-ED and post-ED bias when it comes to the use of certain powers. Pre-ED it was popular to slam both Aim and Build-up to cap damage for a little while and unleash with AoE killing everything. Post-ED many Blasters alternate between aim and build-up so that their attacks will not leave those little slivers of health. At least, that is my personal experience, I know some chained aim and build-up Pre-ED but I recall them being shouted down pretty frequently. Hell, I took the time to learn the most efficient attack chains would kill a yellow or orange mob with build-up running and which ones would kill a yellow or orange with Aim running with my main blaster specificaly because of that "sliver of health". Incidently, melee had to be included.

Thinking back about that "sliver of health" concept, hasn't every blaster under the sun looked for some way to increase damage? Some have asked for just a straight boost (similar to Arcanaville's suggestion of raising the floor of defiance), others have asked for a damage resistance bypass similar to what we have in PvP (something I think fits the theme of defiance and would work just as well as increaseing damage).

Is there any question that blasters feel like they are just not doing enough damage? There must be something that blasters are seeing that are giveing them that impression.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I was reading the above quote and I had a thought: Is it possible to overcome the "sliver of life" by slotting a fourth Damage SO in all your attacks?

Anyway, here were some additional questions I had cross my mind: If someone does find that the fourth Damage SO in all attacks actually overcomes the sliver on a regular basis would that possibly change people's optimized slotting? Would it be better to slot a 4th Damage and overcome the sliver of life or to slot recharge and have to cast another attack?

It just seems to me that when playing a Blaster, and with the sliver of life issue, it may be beneficial to actually consider a fourth damage SO.

Also, if I am just completely off my rocker with this line of thinking please tell me.

What would really help would be the ability to edit your guide, regardless of age, instead of just posting replies to it. If that could be made possible for that forum only it would be very cool.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is a good idea because the guides need to be updated to reflect changes and the discovery of new information as it becomes available.

The webpage says the Gamester will put presents in the zones on the 18th, but the email I received says the 21st.

Is the Gamester just trying to keep us on our toes?

    [/ QUOTE ]

We decided to move the "phase 2" of the event up to the 18th so that people would have more opportunities to open presents. Because well, we all love the presents!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Unless it is socks and underwear.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I actually asked for underwear this year.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I figure that I pretty much have what I want by the time Christmas comes around. Because if I want it really bad then I just go buy it. Besides, the stuff I usually want it outside most people's Christmas budget.

I would rather people buy me stuff that I don't want to go shopping for... like clothes. The more free clothes I get the better Even if they are so ugly I only use them to wipe dirt off my car's tires.

So bring on the socks and underwear.

A very minor improvement for Gadgets...I mean, Devices! (Yeah, it was a dumb mistake -- typing in haste and all of that.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

/em crosses fingers that this "minor improvement" includes a minor damage boost to Targeting Drone to compensate for the nuetering this set has been through and it's evident lack of a Build Up type power.
  6. Just as a note along your issue. I have found that it is very good idea to just exit SG mode before even talking to the tailor. This was you won't have any problems with the colors not looking right unless there really is a problem with the colors.

I was in the tailor once and some person asked me if their costume looked white, and I said no (it was some other color) and he was disapointed because it was supposed to be white and could not figure out why it didn't show up correctly. I told him to exit SG mode and see if that fixed it... and it did.

They need to add a button to supress the SG colors just like they added a button to supress the SG chest symbol. That way you could run in SG mode, change costumes, and not have to worry about resetting all the colors every time you put on a new costume.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
Some of us celtic players take it somewhat seriously though - clan markings are as readily identifiable as gang colours, and serve the same purpose - they show alliegence, represent the honour of the clan, and declare the age of the wearer's family.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not to offend you, and seeing as how I have a very strong Scottish heratige and have a family Tartan as well, I think you outlined just as good a reason as any not to have them able to mimic real world Tartans.

We don't need people running around in their "gang colors".

We also don't have the ability to abuse real family Tartans by doing stupid things while claiming to be from a certain family and wearing their Tartan colors.

You have pride in your Tartan, and I understand that, but this is just a game. And this game (and really any game for that matter) is not the place for it. This game is a make believe place where we wear make beleive tartans that will not offend anyone because it is impossible to recreate any real world version. And to be honest I am just fine with it being only two colors.
  8. OK, this is pretty dang cool!

I went and checked it out, took some pictures, watched some TV. Nice.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
That said, I would like to see the L50 unlimited-respec trial that's been hinted at, if only because it would be nifty new content. Maybe they could adapt a non-SG version of the Cathedral of Pain trial for it, providing respecs and a way to experience the trial without having to deal with the IoP/raidable base hassle.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Here is an idea...

Since they will be updating the Recluse Strike Force with this next patch so you can choose your reward, and I am assuming that the hero equivalent will have the same feature, why not make it so one of your choices is a respec?

This would give people an unlimited respec trial.

Disclaimer: Yes, I am aware that most people will only run the LRSF with only an optimized team, yada yada yada. But this would help encourage SGs to run it to help others in their SG. I also know that many people would cry like little babies because they now have to choose between an S/HO or a respec. But I think it would fit the bill of what most people want: an unlimited chance to get respecs through a suitably hard TF. The choice of rewards at the end would keep people from abusing it because we all know that they would rather have the S/HO.

    /bind TAB "target_enemy_next$$target_custom_next void$$target_custom_next quant$$target_custom_next cyst"

    [/ QUOTE ]
This is just a note to anyone that might decide to use this bind: If there is a quantum, void, or cyst in the area you will be unable to tab off of them once they are selected unless you loose line of sight or after they fade away (after they are defeated). This makes it hard to gain a new target if you need to fire on another target.

So, my suggestion is to make this into a macro or bind it to a different key if you use TAB all the time like I do.

Anyway, just my two influence worth.
  11. Woot! This will really help the new SG we just created.

Does this mean that villains can get isolator too, if thats the case, then heroes should get jail bird too.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Now we begin to see the continued shortsightedness of the Devs' handling of Isolator.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Wow, ye of little faith.

Isolator is marked as "Hero Only". Villains can kill the contaminated for 100 years, and never get the badge.

Only Heroes can get the badge.

    [/ QUOTE ]

um... how is your average villain going to know that?
I can forsee a lot of villains trying, stealing kills from heros in the process, and then raising a fuss when they wonder why their efforts aren't being rewarded.

Just move the one Contaminated over to Peregrine or somewhere so Villains will never see him.

    [/ QUOTE ]

As a villain, I like being able to interrupt the efforts of heroes. Sounds like a totally intentional mechanic.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Here is how I see it: lots and lots of people cried to get the chance to get the Isolater badge, even to the point of saying that they would do just about anything "in game" to get it. The Devs listened to the cries of the masses and granted thier request in the affirmative. They gave them a "chance" and even stated it that it would not be very easy. And now that the Heroes have their chance they cry about how hard it will be to get. It seems to me that a lot of people don't really mean what they say, and will find any excuse to complain even if they are given what they want.

Here is the deal folks, the chance is now there for anyone who did not get it in Outbreak, but it isn't easy. If you really want the badge then you will get it (sooner or later).

If they moved it to PI then it would be too easy. And besides, I like the idea of having to brave the PvP zones to get it, and I don't even like PvP. Also, neither of my mains have Isolater so I am in the boat of needing it.

Looks like this will become the new bounty... move over Sirens call...

I hope i'm not opening up a can of worms by asking for a regeneration power on a Tank build.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Why would that be opening a can of worms? Stone has regeneration built into Rooted, so it is not new to the AT.

    Nice people

I want to say thanks to Crusher who is always ready to send me an invite when I log in.

I also wanted to say thanks to some people that I met in Warburg the other day. My friend and I started by beating on them, but ended up teaming with them and having a really good time. Street sweeping in Warburg is not only fun, but profitable on the exp side as well. And because I am very bad with names I will be unable to tell you who they were . But one was a Fire/mace tank, one was a */Devices blaster, and the other was a Dark/Dark scrapper from the Sisterhood SG (only the scrapper was from the Sisterhood SG). Anyway, if any of you read these boards and happen to remember me, thanks for the fun! You guys/gals ROCK!!! And it is people like them that really make Warburg and other PvP zones enjoyable.

    Nice people

I just wanted to mention Gravity Spike. I have been teaming with him and his alts for a while now and he is a fun team mate. Thanks for the good times (and now some villainous times)!!!

I am glad to have finally met you in game. And I hope you enjoyed meeting my "little" sister last night... hehehe.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Enjoyed it? LoL, that was probably the most fun I have had roleplaying in a long time Especially since I don't normally roleplay much of anything.

Anyway, I had a blast. And now I can officially say that you are a nice person and you deserve to be listed in this post.

    VuDu Dawl,

I finally get to meet you in the game and the whole game crashes... I must have bad karma or something.

Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks, and I appreciated you stopping to say hi to Mech Salvation, because I didn't get a chance to say that in the game.

(I was not able to log back into Talos, with any of my toons that were there, for the rest of the night and the other areas that I could log into were so laggy and unstable that I just quit for the night.)
  19. SlaveDawg

    Nice people

    VuDu,

You know, I have never met you or played with you (that I am aware of), but I seem to be seeing quite a lot of you in Talos recently at the train station and hovering over that nice hill just off the train. And every once in awhile I see you in Atlas, but I have not been there recently for any length of time.

So, if you are nice... I can't say. But I will be sure to say HI to you in the future when I see you out and about.
  20. I prefer to place them in small clusters in a hallway, usually three per cluster. Then stagger them, so I have three sets of three mines and then go toebomb the boss and run back behind the first cluster. The first cluster usually will take out the front runner, the second set hits the boss and a few others, and only sometimes is the third cluster necessary, but it helps to be more safe than sorry.

And the caltrops I use when all else fails. I run around a corner and throw the 'trops right on the corner so they have to run through them to get to me. It slows them down enough to make a nice clean getaway, or at least buys enough time to regroup and unleash with other attacks.

    Nice people

Since I have not played with many of the regulars here I cannot comment on them, but since I had the opportunity to play through Outbreak last night with Golden Ace's new toon, Golden Arrows, I just wanted to add him to this list. I had a good time just chatting away. And it took me forever to finally get out of that place, because I chat way too much, but I got the isolator badge and a level for my efforts.

Thanks Golden Ace for making it an enjoyable time.

A friend who is far away is sometimes much nearer than one who is at hand. Is not the mountain far more awe-inspiring and more clearly visible to one passing through the valley than to those who inhabit the mountain?

Too true, too true. Thanks for sharing this little treasure.

    Nice people

I will make an addition to this: Ms. Death (I think that is correct)

I met this character at a costume contest in Atlas. I was role playing my buff martial arts scrapper and she was role playing her brooding dark scrapper and we just had a really good time bouncing our comments off each other. Neither of us won the contest, but I think we had much more fun then the others at it. I ended up adding her to my global friends list because she seemed like someone that would be fun to actually play the game with, as oppoesed to some people only wanting to get maximum exp per second. She then teleported me to the top of Atlas Statue and City Hall to get the badges.

It is people like this that make Liberty so much fun!!!

Also, this wouldn't be complete without saying that girllucifer (Lucyfer, the OP) is DANG COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for bringing this thread back. Not to mention meeting up with me in Perez Park to let me show off my new auras and costumes
