  1. After playing multiple MMOs in the last few years, I would have to say that the CoH community is one of the best, if not the best, around.

Even though I do not play CoH as much as I used to, it is always a breath of fresh air to come back.

    Keep up the awesome community!

    Fire / Mental?

I found Fire/MM to be one of the most fun builds that I have played in CoH. The AoE is awesome and makes for some great moments when teaming (since the mob spawns are larger).

Get someone else to round the mobs up and just nuke 'em like crazy.
  3. I like Battle Axe. I have a Fire/BA Tank and enjoy it quite a bit. So my opinion is that Battle Axe is fine. Although, I do not have a Stone Tank and so I have to borrow from my friend's experience to speak on that.

I know that Granite has some major slowing effects, but take Haste and slot recharges in your attacks to help overcome the slow while in Granite. I have a friend that has a Stone tank and that is what he does with his attacks to help get them to activate quicker.

You can also try to maximize recharge using some creative IO combinations.

Gratz on your first piece of giftart too. Nice isn't it?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Being an artist I have done gift art for others, but I had never received gift art until now. And yes, it is nice. Very nice.
  5. I am so excited! I just got my first piece of gift art today from a friend in my SG on freedom. We were teaming one night and got talking about life and ended up talking about art... because that is really the core of life

Anyway, out of nowhere he sends me a sketch he did on my character Terra... and I was blown away. Well, he took the next couple of days to complete it, and tonight while we were chatting he told me I needed to check my e-mail. And this is what he sent. I present you with my Earth/Storm Controller, Terra Anemoi.

I am still so excited that I got this.

Anyway, go check his DA page out also. His name is slippyninja, and he has some really incredible work. He is also getting set up to start accepting commissions, and so if you are looking for someone, please give him a try.

....wanders off to admire my new artz

Yeah that is a respec that I would pay for. But then I wouldn't have any more invulnerable toons. Then again neither would anyone else. Sigh.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I would.

Art is, IMO, created to be critiqued.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have to disagree with this. Art is created first, and foremost, to be enjoyed and admired by the viewer. If you don't like the piece then move on. Critiques are usually volunteered by people that has less understanding that the artists and, more often than not, a chip on their shoulder just waiting to lash out at something. And to top if off, most end up not even being useful.

I think the main purpose of this forum is not to search out critiques, or to search out pieces to critique, but rather a place to come and share your talents with others. And then offer a critique only if, and ONLY IF, the person posting has asked for one.

If you want to critique pieces then there are lots of other sites that cater to just this mindset, but I don't think that this is the place for it unless specifically asked for. And so on that note, if you really need to offer a critique and the artist has not asked for it, then do it in a Private Message.

Anyway, just my two cents worth.

I tried Amazon but couldnt find any products.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That is odd because that is where I bought mine... but I live in the US... so who knows.
  9. are you able to order one from Amazon.com? Or do they not deliver to Canada?

But Wacom is the top of the line. I guess the new line is called Bamboo, but if you can get an old Graphire 4x5 or 6x9 you would probably be pretty happy with it, and they are relatively cheap in comparison to the other Wacom products (like Intuos).

Anyone need proof from me since my characters name isn't on the queue list for MMO Art? If so let me know and I can provide a copy of my PayPal receipt.

    No biggie.

Ok, I have two characters I was going to have done eventually by Gil so I'll leave it up to the artists to choose from the screenies below which they would like to do for me.

    SlaveDawg I'll leave it to you to choose which you would rather work on;

    Zal-El

    or

    Darque Fyre

Zal-El is my WP/SS Tank (think Superman) and Darque is my Fire/Dark Corruptor.

Feel free to pick the one that inspires you the most to work on and we can iron out the details.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I will do Zal-El. If you could send me the information I asked about in the PM then I can get started. Also, if you need to send anything to me, like screen shots or other material, I can PM you my e-mail address (or you can find it on my DA page).

lol, I am looking forward to doing this Should be fun!

    Technoviking by who?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Technoviking started the original MMOart thread, and Slavedawg has volunteered to pick him up. I don't know what character/name he is on the list you posted above.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't know which character yet either. He will be getting back to me either later this evening or tomorrow with the information. I can then have TA update his list.

I am no where near as good as Juggy and DJ, but if someone wants, I would be willing to pick up one of the commissions and do it for free. I need the practice anyway

For reference, you can see my work at the DA link in my sig.

Send me a PM or reply to this post and I will see what I can do for you. At this point I will only be taking the first person and then see how it goes. Also, please do not ask unless you currently have a commission that has not been completed.

Another digital painting of my Brute. New style. Hope you enjoy it!

That man could spin a pile of elephant dung into gold.

That is a trick I would like to see. When you commission him to do it please post it so we all can see :P
  18. Reglan Geist

OK, here is an updated version of my previous sketch. Now with color. I may decide to add more, like a background, but for right now I am pretty happy with the results so far.

    Enjoy
  19. Thanks!

I plan on working some more on it tonight, so hopefully I can update it with something that is more visually impressive. I don't know if I will get to finish it tonight, but I will try.

School and work kept me away from my Wacom Tablet for the last few months, and so I feel a bit rusty with it at the moment. This piece will hopefully get me back to my original comfort level with it and then I will try and pump a few more pieces out. It is funny how watercolors and nupastel can make a tablet harder to use, but I think it is mostly because of the slick surface on the tablet that I need to get back in the habit of using.

I have some stuff that I have been wanting to do, specifically a trio of Defenders that some friends and I have been running, but I want to do it right.

So, thanks for the nice posts Hericane and Larissa.
  20. Reglan Geist

This is my Highest level Villain. He is a level 44 Energy Melee/Electric Armor Brute.

This is just a sketch, but I hope to get around to actually coloring it and doing some cleanup on the lines and such.
  21. Wow, I have not posted anything new on here for a long time, so I guess I am past due. So here is a quickie:

    Igor Luv

This is quick sketch that I did of my character, Igor Luv. He is a Super Strength/Willpower Brute on the Champion server.

I plan on Inking it and adding color. Hopefully I will have the final done in a few days.
  22. OoooooooOOOoOoOooohhh.... I like that.

    Nice work.

Lucky you for getting such a nice piece of artz.
  23. I like to use a variety of mediums.

    Watercolors
    Acrylic
    Nupastel
    Charcoal
    Graphite
    PhotoShop
    Illustrator

As for the specific name brands... well, I usually just use what I can get my hands on and is on sale. I do try and get the good stuff, but I can't always afford it.

Recently I went out and bought a new set of Windsor-Newton Watercolors and some nice Arches Watercolor paper and I have been working with those.

For Graphite, I use the Mars Lithograph pencils for my finished works, but I use a mechanical pencil for sketching and doodles.

I use Prismacolor Colored Pencils and Nupastels.

My Acrylics are all Windsor-Newton Professional grade.

And for digital I use a 6x9 Intuos 3 WACOM tablet and my trusty mouse. I do all my Adobe Illustrator work with a mouse and all my PhotoShop digital painings with the tablet. I also have a copy of Painter 9.5 but I have not yet had the time to figure out how to use if effectively, and so I am currently sticking to PhotoShop until I have some time to spare to play around with it and read some tutorials.

And I love kneaded erasers! Long live the kneaded eraser!

how do you get random people to make free art for you without you asking?

    [/ QUOTE ]

You have to do a few things:

    1) Post often
    2) Post positive remarks
    3) Be willing to pay for commissions on occassion
    4) Have images of your characters available at all times
    5) Have interesting characters (this includes backgrounds and costumes)
    6) Be willing to post in threads where people are offering free art.
    7) Did I mention being really nice? Oh yeah, I did, but I forgot that you also need to mean it. honesty is good because it helps the artists. but remember that honesty does not mean brutal.
    8) Have friends, or make friends in game, with artists that would be willing to draw your characters.
    9) Don't beg
    10) and finally, do not get upset or mad, if someone decides to be nice and draw your character and you don't like their work/style/design. Just smile, say thank you, and post it someplace where it helps advertise the artist and so others can see it also.

I would be willing to bet that if you did all these things then people would be willing to just draw your character for free from time to time.

But, I can't stress the posting often, and posting positive feedback. I know that I have done gift art for people that have done as much for me. And to have images of your characters available.
