Quote:I see what you did thereI always thought the definition of evil was owning a monkey and shrinking all your friends down to the size of a child?
On a side note, with more space for AE arcs now, I can complete the "World War Mini" trilogy and rework "Lord of the Minis" to include Galadramini and the rest of the "Fellowship".Grog the Small is
These are some good answers, and thank you all for contributing. I have a (non-mini) story arc as a sort of "Triumph Task Force" that I would like to create. It would be for you all, so I'm trying to glean some consensus on what types of heroes/villains you would all enjoy seeing.
Of all the villains in CoX, whom would you say is the "baddest of the bad" and why? -
Quote:That's a very interesting answer. However, WHY did they do it? To save everyone else? Heroic. To save themselves and what they care about? Villain.
Suppose the "villain" is doing what they are doing because they believe it is in the best interests of everyone, not just themselves?
Perhaps the analogy between the Vorlons and the Shadows on Babylon 5... both basically had the same agenda and overall goal, they just went about it in different ways.
The Vorlons (who could be called the heroes) wanted life to progress naturally, yet they did interfere by creating the telepaths. The Shadows believe progress came from conflict and that would lead to the strongest species surviving and in turn, thriving.
Ras Al'Gul in Batman Begins believed in what he was doing and in many ways, his motivations were altruistic to the extreme. He was willing "to do all that was necessary" to see balance in the world and justice served. So if his motivations were not "selfish", does that make him evil?
What makes the best villain? Is it someone who is clearly on the other side of the fence or is it someone who blurs the line between what is right and what is wrong? -

Sauron, Magneto, Darth Vader, Khan, the Joker ... all are among the list of "bad guys".
But what exactly is it that makes them the bad guy?
As a follow up to the definition of a hero questions, this time I'd like to know what makes your villains "evil"? And to further the thought, what really is "evil"? Sometimes, the answer is not always so black and white.
If you were to look at Darth Vader and Magneto, it can be argued that they are not necessarily "evil" in the classic sense. Both started as "good" and have chosen to stand for what they believe in and protect those they hold dear. Yet as we all know, "the road to hell is paved with good intentions".
Thinking of your villains (or any favorite villain you may have from TV, books, films etc.), what qualities sets them apart as "evil"?
- What motivates them?
- Is it money? Power? Or something less granular?
- What are their beliefs?
- Do they consider themselves "evil"?
- Are they connected to your hero in some way?
-
Quote:I like this answer a lotEven if the public outcry would be against me, and the law put in my way if I know something is right I will commit to it. Even if it pits me against friends, or working on the opposite side of the law.
Thanks for the answers everyone! There is a purpose in asking these so please do add more to it! -
I pose this question to you not in terms of what you, the real life player think. Rather, if your hero were a real life person, how would they answer?
- What defines a hero?
- What beliefs do they hold dear that makes them a hero?
- To what lengths would they go to uphold those beliefs?
- What price would make them set aside their values?
- Would they stand by those convictions, even if it were against public opinion?
- Would they put their friends and loved ones above those of the public at large?
- What lines will they not cross?
- Would they take a life?
- Would they sacrifice their own life for what they believe in?
- Would they give up being a hero?
Yes, I am working on something (hopefully) fun.
And no, it won't be something with Minis in it. -
-
BTW I deduct 1 rep from you for not mentioning your Mini in the interview

I tried it on my 8800M GTS (have it on me laptop) and if I go full Ultra settings, the game looks spectacular, but it's unplayable. The performance hit is way too high. About all I can do with the settings is to have the water reflections on and still be playable.
I'm not going to spend the money to upgrade my desktop or laptop with a new card, so I guess I'll be going non ultra. -
Hey congrats to you EM and everyone at Fusion Force!
I have to agree with Az #1 that you do feel like you are around family every time you see a FF uniform about.
It's been great being part of the GC channel and yapping it up with everyone there.
You always know you are in for a fun time when teamed with someone from Fusion Force, except when you try to step on your mini... -
Thanks.
After reading Posi's post, I guess Ultra Mode is a no-go here... not spending the money to upgrade my card either. -
Me pending Ultra Mode working... do they have a list of recommended video cards or requirements for Ultra Mode posted somewhere? I have my NVidia 8800 GTS on the laptop.
-
I'll probably be on this evening or tomorrow night. I never got around to testing Ultra Mode so I don't know if I'll be able to run it on my setup. I hope I can cuz I'm not going to buy a new video card for it.

logged in... played for about 10 minutes before getting DC'ed 3 times. After the third login I wasn't really able to move at all and then DC'ed a 4th time. Gave up and hopped onto STO.
All the GMs and AVs attacking Atlas Park looked cool though! -
Quote:It's my understanding that the Romulans were the next playable faction to be added to the game. They were the number 1 choice in the poll results Cryptic had for playable factions.I got bored before I hit commander. Probably because I didn't know anyone. Will they ever add playable romulans?
They are working to flesh out the Klingons first to give them an equivelent level of PvE content to the Federation side first. After that, they'll start working on the Romulans.
I didn't know anyone on there either but was able to make a couple of new friends while playing. Then I found the CoX channel that some fellow CoX players made and joined that. There are quite a few people from here over on STO. We've been working on the STFs together. -
I'll bring something along. I'll be in Atlas anyway... have to pay the rent.
-
Quote:LOL! I agree the STFs in STO are totally insane. They're not designed very well, but myself and 2 other fellow CoH players made it all the way to the final room of "Infected" and almost got all the generators down. I doubt we could have taken the Queen if we managed to get them all though.I got bored with my main Captain on STO after I hit the level cap, and tried their insane end game content, but I still play an alt once or twice a week over there, for now.
It does get very boring once you hit Admiral and have done all the missions, so I'm altaholicing it there for now. Supposedly Episode 3 is raising the level cap. -
Quote:This on test server now? I'll have to check it out."Twisted Reflections", L25-29 in Ouroboros
"Looking Through The Glass", L25-29 in Ouroboros
The 2nd arc is the better of the two IMO, with a really nice cutscene at the end.
Also both have a new feature where the contact talks to you during the missions. It's kinda cool.
Edit: Got some cut scene screenshots on the FF site:
SPOILER ALERT

Did you see that your Mini is 50? He is too powerful for you to step on him now -
Same, and I blame Turbo for this.
Six years my poopy Defender has been waiting to get married to Turbo and he just runs off to have a cyber affair with his new computer.Well that is the story of my life with Turbo I guess...
Cryptic is slowly flushing the fun factor of STO down the proverbial toilet, so I'll be back here on a more regular basis.
I believe I have perfected the concept for my Mini Cath toon, which is a combination of Cath, a catgurl and Sun Splitter, with a dash of Karl Rove Man. This is masterpiece material here.
I just hope this incarnate stuff coming will let my minis solo the STF because that would just be pure awesome spread between two slices of win. -
What now?
I was referring to "branching" as in it isn't possible to create in AE as the system stands now.
Branching to me is;
Contact asks you "How do you want to handle this situation?"
You have option 1, 2 or 3 to choose from.
If you choose option 1, you run mission A that contains unique story arc elements X.
If you choose option 2, you run mission B that contains unique story arc elements Y.
If you choose option 3, you run mission C that contains unique story arc elements Z.
Whichever choice you made also has implications toward what contacts/content you have access to in the future.
Hopefully this is what we'll be getting soon. -
Quote:I'd make a "sizable" joke here about "appendages" and USB ports, but I don't want to get banned...Sad part is he has a human girlfriend but I believe she is unaware he is cheating on her with his computer.
I'm going to start getting back into the swing of things here since STO is rapidly going down the toilet. -
You all doing a run this Thursday evening? If so, I'll bring something along.
-
Done well, branching content is the way to go in the future for MMOs. If you have a different experience each time you play through in terms of story and your choices having an impact on your future lends itself to the long term over repeatable raiding content.
I'm kind of surprised they haven't tried this out with AE yet. It would be relatively straightforward to create branching arcs in there.
