Ah thanks guys. I looked all over the wiki and couldn't seem to find it anywhere. I thought it would be on The Calvin Scott TF page itself, or on Sister Psyche or Aurora Borealis page. Thanks again!
-
Hello everyone! I am working on updating my Historic Calendar and there are a few events I can't find. I know there are some really knowledgeable people around here, so I am hoping yall can help!
- When was the Calvin Scott TF removed from the game?
- When did Sister Psyche split from Aurora Borealis?
And, is there anything else important missing from the calendar? Thanks in advance for your help! -
What server were you guys on? I wonder if it's going in order of what servers the event took place on.. ? I'm a little surprised that there are people who still don't have codes.. There must be a perfectly logical reason, but not having privy to inside information I can't imagine what it is..

To give everyone an idea of where this "little" project has gone, please check out:
http://www.coloden.com/city
I am creating a calendar for all the major events in the game's history. The linked webpage has each year on a single row, so that all years can be easily compared. The PDF (linked in the page) has each year on two rows (6mo each) for vertical scrolling environments (iPods, etc). Unfortunately the HTML can't capture the cell gradients for days with more than one event, so I will work on a way to display this in the HTML version. Displays properly in the PDF. Suggestions welcome.
Known Issues, both files: Some cells that are supposed to be white are instead gray or black. Superfluous comma between chat and improvements in i12 description. I want to add the introduction of inherent powers to the calendar (issue 5), and articulate when Defiance was changed (12/11/07).
PDF: Word "distance" appears twice in i4 description. Missing comma between RV and PPP in i7 description. Text centered (instead of left-aligned) in i9 & i11 description. Collector's Edition text way too small in Oct05.
HTML: Weird spacing issues around i5 and i6 descriptions.
I will continue updating both the page and PDF as I have time, but please feel free to enjoy it for the time being. -
Ahhh I didn't even think to check the wiki. Thank you very much!

I was wondering if it was about time for another Double XP Weekend, so I printed out a 2008-2010 calendar and started going through the forum announcements to figure out when we've had them in the past. I found Feb08, Jul08, Oct09, & Mar10. Did we really go over a year without having a 2xXP weekend? Or am I missing an announcement somewhere? Thanks for your help!

I got mine today via PM! I was on Freedom, which was the first server on the last day, so hopefully everyone else is getting them as well! WOOOOO!

Quote:Perhaps you misunderstood. I noted that few other games have an SK system of any kind. And SSKis even more awesome. Ive never hear of any other game with the SK system, let alone SSK, unless it was ripped from City. Please correct me if I am wrong, if you can, in other games, team with people of completely disparate level.I did not say that SSKing was not innovative because of Power Leveling. I said it was not innovative because the new SSK system is a rehash of the old one. Even your statement says the old system isn't exactly innovative though since other games use it as well. I remember way back trying to talk a friend into playing CoX and telling him about the SSK system. He shoots back with "Yea, my game does that too". The original SSK system may fall into the "New to the game, but not Innovative" category, while the new SSK system falls into the rehash/rework category. I also said that I like the new system as well, I just also mentioned not everyone does.
They took a system that doesn't exist elsewhere and made it better. In my book that counts as innovation, not content to settle a feature that no one else has (an if they do they stole it from City) ... they made it better. SK and SSK are both innovations that I havent seen in other games. Makes it easy for casual gamers like me to team with friends who play more. Made of win. -
Quote:Wait, wait, wait. I really didn't want to be drawn into this conversation but I have to chime in here. You're saying that SSK is not innovative because the PLers are pissed that it's now harder to be PLed? I have to whole-heartedly, 100% disagree.Super Side Kicking - rehash of an older system. I personally like it, but a lot of people do not since they can no longer get the xp from +5 enemies when being Power Leveled. Not innovative.
The Side-Kick system (pre SSK) was already innovative, because many other games have no such compensation. You play with people at your same level range, or you're either overpowered or ineffective. Period. The SK system itself was a fantastic innovation. Then to take it to the next step and remove the requirement of "Mentor Tetris" is just mind-blowingly awesome. I cannot overstate the greatness that this feature embodies. Any group of people with any set of toons across any level range can team together and get XP. That is fantastic, and not to be brushed aside because the PLers have been inconvenienced. -
Oh snap, I didn't even think about the possibility that they wouldn't identify the codes! I already have the PPD code on my account, so was going to give that one to a friend who recently helped me Set-IO the character who won me the contest. Uh oh!
So what happens if I apply a code to my account that already exists on the account? I really want to be able to send that code to Walleye! ;_; -
Oh man, I've used the wedding pack in tons of costumes, and I have *no* wedding themed toons. Two notable costumes being
and
though I've used pieces here and there on many, many costumes.
I think the takeaway here is that people have different opinions on what justifies spending $6 or $8 or $10 of their own cash. I wasn't interested in the Cyborg pack at first, but bought it because I hate the idea of not having access to some of the game's content, regardless of how often I intend to use it. To my surprise I found great uses for a small number of the Cyborg pieces (though I will never ever use a majority of the pack, because I personally find most of it ugly). A huge number of people feel that the Party Pack isn't worth their $8.. and yet there were at least a significant number of people who felt it was. While I would hate to see the free content we're used to getting with each issue be shoved into additional specialized packs, I do also want to see Paragon Studios remain profitable so they can keep this game running far into the future. I'm sure it comes down to a balance between the two.
In the end if you don't like it, don't buy it. Suggestions are great, feedback and concern are a cornerstone of this community, but getting angry about it doesn't really solve anything. If you don't like what has been done in the game, if it's no longer fun, if you'd rather spend your money elsewhere, by all means entertain yourself in some other way! Just remember, that's what this is supposed to be: entertainment. If you get totally bent out of shape over it, you're taking it way, way too seriously. And getting angry over speculation about what may happen in the future and what direction the game may take or not take is just silly.
(Edit) And before anyone questions my dedication to this game, I absolutely love, love, love this game. It's the topic I talk about more than anything else to anyone who will listen, it is my entertainment of choice when (for whatever reason) I am not spending time with my Man, it is my motivation for exercising*. While I may not be as knowledgeable as others, or spend as much time in-game as others (not nearly as much time as I'd like), my adoration of this game cannot reasonably be doubted. It's not that I care less about this game than the people who are angry, I am just as passionate; the difference is that I look at it as a form of entertainment. Even when things don't go the way I want, I don't get angry about it, because there's still so much about the game I love. If that ever changes, I'll take my money elsewhere, but for now it's still my favorite game ever. (/edit)
*OLD, old setup, not my current furniture layout, but you get the idea -
Quote:I am guessing everyone is getting them via their regular email address, not in-game email, right? *obsessively refreshes inbox* WAANT!I got my Codes yesterday, though I'm not sure what they have unlocked or where to find them ._.!
Any help Electric?
As for applying them, go to plaync.com, log in to your game account, enter the code, and apply it against your City account. If you are already logged into City you may need to log out and back in before the codes apply. Then, open your powers window and under one of the sections on the right (labeled temporary) you will have the costumes as toggle powers. You can then drag them into trays, etc. (Sorry if that's not what you were asking, that's how I interpreted your question..) -
Rikti Mentalist Code? Reeeeallly?

Quote:I would LOVE a traps/devices character. Seriously. I realize I am probably one of only a few people who would actually enjoy playing De/Buff primary and Manipulation secondary, but I totally would. Storm Summoning/Gravity Manipulation, Traps/Devices, and others. <3 <3 <3I know what you meant, but a Devices/Traps character would be all sorts of silly.
Quote:On my fire/devices, after my first debt, I did this:
1. Smoke grenade
2. Backed off to my snipe range.
3. In between dropping mines, I crept back to smoke grenade range while Mine was recharging.
5. After dropping 8 mines: I sniped the WoE.
8 Spawned on my snipe position, but while the snipe was queuing I dropped rain of fire on top of me.
They fell over, I didn't.
One more snipe and WoE went down.
And as the mobs run into the mine field, I cackle wildly. I don't care if it takes a long time to set up, I get so much glee from executing it! -
I'm not worried, just anxious. Caaan't waait! ^_^

Quote:I assume you sit at the desk next to BaBs (or someone else in the animation department) and know how long it takes to design new emotes from scratch? And then how much time it takes for them to get approved and go through internal testing? And how much all of those said employees make per hour?well,I will pass on this.now to tin foil hat time, this pack will be a success. I have no access to real numbers but will use estimates,
Cost to create pack at most 5000.00
assuming 1% buy it at 7.99 1500 players
total approx 12000.00
profit approx 8000.00
profit=success
Not that I disagree with your logic that "profit = success" but I'm curious how you know that it could cost $5k at maximum to generate this content. (Honestly, just curious. Please enlighten me. I am able to laugh at the person who, several pages back, insisted that $2m is obscene profits and that the money could be better spent elsewhere ... because I have often worked at similarly sized companies in the AP department and know what it actually costs to run a business. Just because I could retire for the rest of my life and live at my current level of comfort with $2m, doesn't mean it's a lot of money to a company. That doesn't even cover monthly expenses for some companies of similar size. I am thrilled that Paragon Studios turns enough of a profit to stay in business. <3) -
I support this! I'd pay for this! I have an iPod and I'd gladly, GLADLY pay for something like this!!

I happened to win a Party Pack via the Freedom Costume Contest, but I would have bought it even if I hadn't won it. I buy every pack, every piece. I bought the Cyborg pack even though I didn't like ANY of the costume pieces. (I have since grown to like a few pieces, as well as Self Destruct.) I would have bought the Party Pack even though I almost never use emotes. (Seriously. Almost never.) Paragon Studios owns my wallet, and I am a completionist and must own all the stuff in the game. I remember when the entrance to the Tiki Lounge appeared in Pocket D, before the VIP passes were available. When I clicked on that door and was told I couldn't enter, I was absolutely incensed. I *must* have access to all of the game's content, even if I have no intent to ever use it.
There are actually people who find the Party Pack worth the money. There are others who just want to own it all. We are the people who will buy this pack. If you're not one of the two, good for you. Save your $8.
(And as for a reference to a fool's money earlier in the thread: What's it to you if buying something makes me happy? I'M foolish just because YOU don't find value in something? I should base my buying decisions on what YOU find worthy, regardless of my own desires? Who's the fool here?)
Re: Bait And Switch - Just because these emotes were being tested at the same time as GR, doesn't mean they were ever intended to be part of GR. It's a test/beta server. They often test a bunch of stuff. If you made assumptions about emotes being included, that's your own fault.
Re: $2mil/month - Yeah they probably get around this monthly. This is to maintain servers (which believe me, is extraordinarily expensive, especially for the load we put on them), pay the developers, pay rent (which can cost a fortune for a corporate space), utilities, insurance ($50-100k per month depending on the number of employees and type of benefits), and other vendor costs. I don't know if you're aware how much money software developers make, in this picture there are something like 65 people. (I am probably off by one or two.) Don't underestimate the operating costs of a small company, I do the Accounts Payable for a small company and I know what we spend. $2mil/month isn't exactly rolling in dough.
Quote:This, exactly. There are some thoughtful responses, and I fully support the right of people to express their opinions.. however the people who are going nuclear over this (and even threatening to leave the game): don't let the door hit your *** on the way out. You won't be missed.I like to think you're this fanatical when you see an object you don't want in the grocery store. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've run across you at least TWICE in Wal*Mart. This goes for everyone else as well; It's a product. If you don't want it, just dont' buy it. Acting like the mustard offended you because it's being sold and GOSH DARNIT I DON'T LIKE MUSTARD just makes you all look... Incredibly silly.
Quote:Seriously, you guys could have work on more important things that have been bugged for weeks or months? I think youve wasted your time and resources working on a booster pack that maybe 1% or less of your population would even buy.
If the Party Pack sells enough money to cover the cost of the time invested, they may do it again. If the sales revenue is not enough to cover the cost of the time invested, they may try lowering the price, or they may not put forth a similar product in the future. Then again, they may make plenty of money to cover the cost of the investment, but get so sick of the childish responses that they only put out one Booster per year, and make sure it contains lots of stuff, and then charge $20 for it. -
I'm not sure, but I don't think anyone didn't win because their costume wasn't "Party" enough. With only three winners per server, I'm sure it just boiled down to "There are a bunch of awesome costumes, but we have to narrow it down to our favorite three!"

I am truly sorry for those of you who cannot take Personal Time Off to attend in-game events. I've had jobs like that, jobs where you clock in and out on the minute, and it stinks. I count myself very fortunate to work for a company that is very generous with PTO, holidays, and random paid time off. I take Thursday, Friday, and Monday off four Double XP Weekend, even if it's End Of Month, and my boss just thinks it's kinda funny. Would that we could all have such wonderful employers.
As for the party, I had a blast. I love that Paragon Studios arranges these community building events. I am also honored to have been chosen as one of the lucky winners. Thank you Mishii, Super Model, Ocho, Avatea, and Adamastor for a great (and rewarding!) evening! I will put the Party Pack to good use, hopefully inspiring others to make the purchase.
I love this game so, so much! <3 -
Quote:I'm not assuming I'll hate the changes. I may love them. But I am very sure that there will be a lot of people who don't like the changes. While I recognize that it's impossible to please 100% of the people, why should we do something that is guaranteed to make a portion of the population unhappy? Why not provide updated textures for the people who want them, but leave the legacy options for others? Why are more choices a bad thing? The menu needs to be updated regardless, and I personally think that should be a higher priority than revamping "old looking" pieces. The menu is more of an eyesore and everyone has to use it.You're also assuming that you'll hate the changes before you see them. See how this works? If you never use something, it's not really an option anymore, is it... There are 5 costume slots for a reason. They don't expect people to stick to one costume for the entire life of their character.
Some people just need to realize that they're playing a game with other people and understand that sometimes design decisions don't go their way. This goes for powers, game play mechanics, content, AND artwork/costumes. No matter what decision David makes, it's not going to make everyone happy. There is no such thing as an option that 100% of the player base will like better than the status quo.
The level of fearing change in this thread is bordering on silly.
It's not a fear of change, it's a fear of losing pieces to which many have grown fond. A little empathy would go a long way in this thread. -
I would like to point out to the people voting for Option 1 - you are assuming that you will approve of the changes. I wonder if anyone will log on an older character and realize that a beloved costume no longer works because there's now too much detail, a seam, or a change more drastic than expected. Taking options away, regardless of how useless a certain percentage of people find them, is always going to sadden another percentage of people.
The issue with the disorganization in the menu isn't new.. they started getting sloppy even when CoV was released. And with all of the updates since then, it has just gotten worse and worse. This has been a known issue that has been ignored to the point that now it's even more of a bear to handle. The more pieces that come out, the worse this problem will become. I agree with several previous posters: revamping the menu should take 100% of the "old pieces update" time, until it's done. Make finding pieces and creating costumes a cleaner, easier experience - then think about updating the older bits.
Quote:I am so very glad to see you say this. Thank you very, very much for asking for our input and taking the time to listen. Even if we don't get what we want, at least we'll know we were heard, and our opinions considered.Hey, guys. Just wanted to thank everyone for casting a vote and for helping us get a better picture of what the playerbase is thinking. Here's my takeaway from reading the 22+ pages of thoughts on the topic: Arguments on both sides were compelling to the point where a third option, perhaps involving the menu setup, seems like the best way to satisfy all parties. This is NOT a promise of future action, but it's the view I'll express on your behalf.
So yay--everyone wins. We'll make every effort to create new pieces that give you all better options in areas that might be lacking. And don't worry, Option 2 folks--nothing will be removed from the system.
If anyone would like to comment further about specific costume pieces, please don't hesitate to post in the All Things Art thread.
Cheers,
Noble Savage -
Ahh, but it's not meant to be "more area = better power set". It's just meant to show how each set performs in various areas.
I guess it would be more helpful to divide "Affects Allies" and "Affects Self" out into four categories, to also include "Targets Allies" and "Affects Enemies". Requiring an Ally as a target for the power could be considered a detriment, since it means you can't solo (or at least you'd need pets).
Really what these graphs are meant to do is to showcase what power sets are similar, versus those that are highly different. For instance, Trick Arrow is my favorite set, and if I hadn't already also played Traps, I could tell from this graphic that Traps is very similar to Trick Arrow, and I am likely to enjoy it. Whereas I can see that Empathy is extremely different from Trick Arrow, so it makes sense that it's my least favorite of the De/Buff sets.
Because of this comparison, I am quite looking forward to Poison, which I have so far only played to level 8. The "affects enemies" metric would make this more clear, since Poison has massive debuff, just like TA. -
Just chiming in with my vote, reiterating what has already been said: Option 2.
- The costume menus really need to be overhauled anyway. There are options that should be available in certain menus that aren't. Some menus are hero options and then villain options, some are the reverse, some are alphabetical. I've been playing this game since live launch, I spend a LOT of time in the costume creator, and it still sometimes takes me a while to find what I'm looking for. Even if I know the exact name and the names of a few items nearby in the list - because the lists are in such dire need of cleaning up. You guys already spent some time updating the costume creator, letting us zoom in on the face for example.. I think it's high time the whole thing was reorganized. I think that should be a higher priority than updating textures, because (as with many other features in this game) I think a new person is likely to be overwhelmed. (And besides, some of the menus get crowded on the screen. Everything doesn't even fit well anymore. We have this fantastic new character design interface that lets us go back and forth between all the steps, and yet the actual costume interface keeps getting more and more broken.)
- As has already been mentioned, some of the older (fuzzier) pieces are great for other uses. I think taking options away is always a bad idea, because there are a lot more players (and costumes!) than there are people on the art team. I'm sure you're already aware that we come up with some creative and zany ways to use costume pieces, things that you guys never would have thought of in ten years. Taking options away, regardless of how infrequently you think they're being used, is going to leave a lot of people hurt.
So I vote making a cleaner, more organized costume options list priority number one, and then touching up legacy costume pieces and leaving the fuzzier stuff in its own sub-category.
