I didn't want to be awsnered with negative comments.

If you didnt want negative comments, you were pretty stupid to post on this forum.

I just came back to this game after a year, and it is gratifying to see that the DEVs are still aggressive against farming. This is a Role Playing Game (Thats what the "RPG" part of "MMORPG" stands for), not a spreadsheet. The point of the MA was to add story content, not provide you with a way to cheat.

Nice to see that no one has answered your question so far. There is still hope for this game.
  2. I tried that, and it did help quite a bit. I wanted something stringer than a boss, but weaker than an Elite boss, so I tried an Elite boss with minimal powers and no defensive powers. I didnt think it would make that big a difference.
  3. My story calls for an ally...but even set to Elite Boss, this ally is a wimp. He cant survive a single fight.

Am I doing something wrong? Is there some way to increase the ally's hitpoints so he can at least survive a few fights? The enemies are not that strong. They con white and yellow to my test character.

I'm having similar issues with the end villain. I want him to be soloable, but even set to elite boss, he seems weak. In my experience, Elite Bosses should be tough to solo, but I am having no problems soloing mine. He doesn't seem to have the hitpoints I see with other Elite Bosses.

Are there different rules for pre-publish than post-publish? Meaning that maybe in this test phase the enemies are deliberately weaker than normal or something. I don't want to inflate these characters power too much if the power levels will change once the story is published.
  4. That is what I needed to know. Thank you.
  5. I'd like to make missions intended for lower levels (like 6 to 15), but I seem to be capped at level 20 to 29...is this deliberate or am I doing something wrong?

All my villains are tagged as 1-54. But I dont see any way to define a level range...does this mean anyone 1 to 54 can play the mission and it will scale to their level automatically?
  6. I just came back to CoH after being gone for almost a year. Your guide is extremely informing. It answered all of my questions and some I didn't know I needed to ask. Thanks.
  7. So I take it ED has pretty much gutted the purpose of this thread now.

    Hover is officially worthless again.
  8. Yeah, that was the impression I got too. They arnt really robots. They're puppets.

Nemises really IS a genius though...he invented steam-powered body armor in an era before electronics!
  9. I read this over lunch and I just want to say how impressed I am with how thorough this is. Especially the details of all the alternate dimensions. I have been grabbing scraps of CoH lore anywhere I can over the last year, but a lot of this is stuff I have not seen before.

I also like how well written it is. This almost reads like it could have been written by Crypic.
  10. Great guide...the most comprehensive one I have come across so far.

I will post an edited version of this on my website with a link back here and credit given to you. I fear the Devs might decide to delete this post because it contains so many spoilers.
  11. My fire/Ice blaster has been doing very well latley actually. He has several controller-type powers. Ice patch in particular is awesome (works even if he goes unconscious, and seems to affect all mobs regardless of level).
  12. Another advantage of 6-slotting hover that people rarely talk about is the fact that hover has little or no inertia. This can be very useful as well.

A blaster can one shot a yellow minion/lt with SOs+AIM+BUILDUP+SNIPE, but the return fire from a mob of 6 yellow minions can floor him.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not true. I have used this effectively many times in Crey with my 33 Energy/Energy blaster. These are all large groups...usually more than 6.

The only annoying thing is waiting for Buildup/AIM to recharge. I have used this tactic many times to "Kill x number of whatever" in dangerous areas. The return fire usually only takes me down to 2/3 health at best. The blaster is not in "constant" peril, because he can get out of range easily with any travel power after that first return volley.

Someone mentioned a tank combo that supposedly outdamages blaster alpha strikes. At level 33 I have never teamed with any tank builds that can remotely match my single target damage in one volley. No scrappers either.

Once we six-slot our highest-damage attacks, though, I know Katana, Broadsword and MA (haven't seen the others) can easily one-shot critical a +3 minion...

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have two scrappers, one in his 20s. Neither can one-shot yellows at all, even though I have them both heavily slotted for damage and with Build Up.

My Energy Blaster was one-shotting Yellows in his teens.

What's missing though, in the minds of my non-blaster (and especially scrapper-main) friends is that while it may LOOK horribly impressive its not in reality terribly useful.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It is useful for damaging difficult targets quickly. Especially targets with no (or limited) ranged attacks of their own.

Scrappers have more DPS, but so far, I havnt seen any that could match the damage output of a comperable blaster Alpha Strike. Thats the trade off.
  15. Does anyone have an example of a scrapper build that can one-shot yellows without inspirations?

Several blaster builds can do that.
  16. My energy/energy blaster was one-shotting yellows in his mid-20's on...neither of my scrappers can do that yet. I dont know that I've seen any scrappers that can do that yet.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
If you go single target- well, by yourself, no one will be able to eliminate single target as quick as you.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Scrappers can, if they can get criticals. Scrappers have a higher damage cap than blasters too.

The problem is that we dont have the defenses scrappers have. So we both draw all the aggro they do, but only scrappers have the defenses to deal with it.

Being a blaster is hard, but it's definitely not boring.
  18. Yep. My main is an energy/energy blaster. Zero powerlevelling. Currently at level 33...just finished working off 70k in debt.

It is the most challenging AT I have played so far...it's feast or famine. If you are good, you can get XP very fast. If you are sloppy, you will get debt just as fast.

I have 7 ALTs and play at least 1 of everything, but Blaster is still my favorite.
  19. You can already get the flaming comet appearance...the FX do stack, even if the powers themselves dont. I saw a guy in Talos a while back with both. It looks just like you would think it looks...which is to say, cool.

however, Katah's post was regarding Hover, not fly. from what I have read in several other posts, Hover does not max out at 4 SOs, that you do gain additional travel speed going with 6. if you have tested this and believe otherwise, I would like to hear about your testing.

    [/ QUOTE ]
My character Cold-Burn just got 6 slotted Hover with SO's (all are +3 green SOs).

It is as fast as unslotted flight at level 14. I slotted it slowly, and yes, it continues to scale all the way up to 6 SOs. With 6 DOs it is about as fast as walking, or slightly faster (but not nearly as fast as sprint). I would say 6-slot Hover qualifies as a slow travel power.

It is VERY cool to be able to fly constantly with almost zero END drain, and a permanent DEF bonus. It's expensive, but worth it. No switching powers in the middle of a fight or having to deal with a temporary slowdown when you attack...it is sweet.
  21. Post 30 expect to be in debt a lot. It is very easy to die the higher up you go.

The way I got around this solo was inspiration loading. In Foudners Falls for example, my contact is close to a bunch of purple mobs. Before every battle I load up on 15 enhancements (4 Lucks, 4 Accuracies, 4 Damages, and maybe 1 heal and 2 END).

4 Lucks will make you virtually immune to attack...for the duration anyway. Fortunately, for blasters, the battle is usually over before they expire. With 4 damage enhancements and build up, 4-6 purple mobs will go down before luck expires. Rinse and repeat. The only lost time is the time in transit to and from your contact (which in my case was about 3 seconds).

It is definitely not easy...it takes some skill (knowing when to flee is critical). But it is fun and XP and Influence flows like wine. If you are good at it, you will advance quickly. This is a great way to recover from permadebt. At 50 INF a piece, the inspiration cost is negligible...practically free.
  22. Yes, the current SOs are all +3. This is as good as it gets. Although Hover will sclae with level too. But even with deep yellow SOs, it will be significantly faster than sprinting, and will be 6-directional.

Two of my character concepts dont fit with any travel powers, but they fit with this. I'm glad you guys told me about it. Before level 22 though, it isnt great. 6-slotted with DOs, it is about the same speed as walking (maybe a little faster).
  23. 6-slotted Hover with SOs for the first time last night...this rules. It's fast enough to function as a slow travel power, and I never have to turn it off. It eats almost no END, gives me a permanent defense bonus, and feels MUCH more natural in a fight than switching back and forth between hover and flight. Expensive, but worth it.

Controllers suck balls in their lower levels, deal with it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My mind control/Kinetics controller was able to solo two reds and a yellow at level 13 last night. They dont suck balls, although they do take a lot longer to kill stuff.

On the other hand, my controller almost never dies. Definitely cant say that about my blasters or my scrappers.
