  2. Most of my toons are inspired by game cannon. So I'm loving this thread. One of my favorites is "Madame Mindbender". She is a Mind/Psi Dominator and a "mistress of disguise". She uses her powers to spy on various villain groups for Arachnos.

  3. Now come on DC I think you and Min agree more than I think you realize you do. Play Nice...

And this is my goal that I'm working towards with my Grav/Earth. A viable (cheap) option for those who don't want Perma, but want to feel a little uber. If it works, I'll post all about. But first I need to get a computer that won't die when FRAPS or Hero Stats is running!!! Xmas here I come.

Ding..the BEST advice I ever got in the early days was to play my dom like a blapper. Once I figured that out, I was addicted (and successful).

I would add that when did the "Kadabra Kill" mission with an MM buddy. The pets kept Singy occupied and I Perma-held Kadabra Kill (power boost ftw). He never fired a single attack other than his Pet Summon. It was surprisingly easy to hold him from range, then once he was good and held go in for the the kill. I would say theres no shame in getting help for a Hero class enemy, heck Doms are squishy. Also, if you have power boost and solo alot...do not skip it. Longer duration, overlapping holds are life savers.

Energy Assault is a lot better than it used to be, but Plant is not a set it goes well with.

Min's pretty spot on here....though you can get by on this set relying heavily on Power Boost + Seeds of Confusion. If you do go energy take power boost and take whirling hands. You want to make sure you do some AoE damage.

These days a Plant/Anything Dom is pretty sweet. Plant/Fire, Plant/Thorn, Plant/Earth, or Plant/Ice would be my top recommendations to a newbie though. If you go plant whatever you do don't skip "Seeds of Confusion" at level 8. That's one of the earliest and most effective soft-control powers you'll ever get in this game. Whenever I see Plant toons without seeds, I cry a little on the inside.....

In fact, singy is one of two pets (animate stone being the other) to actually have a tohit *penalty* - singy and stoney only have base 50% tohit, not 75%. Singy's grav distortion and crush do both have the standard 20% accuracy bonus, and his attacks don't seem to be typed at all (meaning he should ignore defense), but I'd still put in at *least* two accuracies. Acc/mez hamis could also be useful once you near 50.

Wow I didn't know that bout Singularity's accuracy. On my 50 Grav/Rad, Singy's not slotted for accuracy. But He has tactics and Rad debuffs to back him up, so I probably never noticed. Might be a completely diffrent story on a Dom..good information thanks!

Because you're choosing not to see it. He's pointing out that Seismic Smash's hold is stacking with the primary hold. This has really interesting potential. It's not "just" that three doms are taking down AV's (sans debuffs, tankage, etc...)...its that Seismic Smash is allowing them to stack holds quickly.
  10. I've seen quite a few "Dark" scrappers, defenders, corruptors, mm's, and stalkers with customized "blood red" powers. Its a very chilling effect IMHO.

My favorite choices for vampire toons are:

Necro/Dark Master Mind (If you've ever read the Laura Caxton Series by David Wellington, these fit right in. Vamps with their rotting "half-dead" servants).
    Dark Melee/Regen Scrappers and Stalkers
    Dark/Dark Corruptors and Defenders
  11. Coming from someone who has a lvl 50 Grav/Rad and a few Gravity Doms. Switching DS and WH placement would go a loooong way to improve the set. Dimension shift is a fun flavor power, but its practical in-game usefulness doesn't pan out. However, having an available AoE disorient/control at lvl 12 (a'la Flashfire) would be ideal.

The set isn't so bad that it needs a wholesale overhaul. It has one of the best, most durable tanking pets you can get, great slows for secondary effects, and awesome ST control. I know others have mentioned the same thing but I just want to add my vote in as well.

Slotting intangibility enhancements in Singularity is a left-over from the days when it used to spam Dimension Shift. DS has since been removed from Singy's attack chain. You can still slot intangibility but it doesn't do anything.

Here are some slotting recommendations from an older controller guide (Still good advice IMHO):

    Quote:
Singularity can do a lot of things, so there's a lot you might want to slot.
The two most important abilities are Damage and Hold Duration, since Immobilization and Knockback pale in comparison to a good Hold. You may also want some recharge so you can sacrifice a Singularity as a tank more often. With such a huge accuracy bonus, Accuracy enhancements aren't particularly necessary. However, you may want just one or two in there to garauntee a hit vs enemies with a high level advantage or defense to smashing damage.

There's no real "base" for this power to be slotted with, so here are a few extreme examples you can mix and match to your liking.

    The Tank - 3x Recharge, 3x Range
The Controller - 2x Knockback, 3x Hold Duration, 1x Accuracy
The Blastroller - 3x Damage, 3x Hold Duration

IMO, the traditional role of a Dominator is to:

#1 Start the fight and eliminate the alpha strike

    #2 Disable key dangerous targets

#3 Apply situational awareness: reapply control where necessary and take the initial brunt of ambushes

#4 All while doing a fair share of the team's damage

This Dominator is doing an excellent job at #2, a good job of #4 and a mediocre job at #1 and #3.

I'm already seeing this pattern on my lvl 22 Grav/Earth ( I was inspired to start one by your posts Min...). He's not an AoE powerhouse by any means. My Fire/Psi, Grav/Psi, and Plant/Thorn doms already had reliable AoE controls/or damage by this lvl. He is indeed good at #2 and #3. I've been mainly teamed and even been leader of a few teams now. Oddly enough I'm finding that he works well with Stalkers of all things. I apply control to boss, stalker takes out boss, stalkers aoe, fear kicks in, I apply control to next dangerous target. I have to pick and choose my targets much more strategically than I do with my other doms. I'm still unsure how I feel about that, but it has given me a bit of insight as to what Grav "is" and what it "isn't". It's an odd set for sure one with very good strengths balanced out by glaring weaknesses.

So, am I going for perma? I doubt it. I'm not sure how far I'm even going to take this character: I figure once I have slotted my L38 power I've had the experience of the powersets I was looking for. There might be the bragging rights of a "I've got a L50 Grav Dom, next stop: petless MM" t-shirt, but I'm not convinced I want to do the slog and inflict such an underperforming character on the teams I'd be with. We'll see; it might be worthwhile doing to pass the time until GR.
I dunno MIN..I'm reading your posts and I'm not seeing an underperfoming toon here. It doesn't do what other doms do but isn't there room for that?

Not all blaster combo's do the same job nor brutes, corruptors, etc... Your Grav/Earth sounds like a single-target boss killer. That also capable of handling EB's. Thats not half bad!

Thanks for these posts..they are tons of fun to read BTW...

    Yeah. Rabid llama...uhm. I'm going thataway now ^^;

But try and hang in till 20. I was in the same place, feeling 'meh, this isnt worth it.' Then 20. Boomtime. Bigtime.
I think people expect the epics to be "Awesome out of the box". When the fact is you have to stick them out to get the rewards. The good news is that HEAT's get good around 20 and VEATS get awesome at lvl 24. I can get 20 levels just through regular play a few hours a week, so it doesn't bug me. I like both epics and they feel epic to me. I have a Warshade and a "Huntsman" build bane. Both are loads of fun to play and neither one is IO'd out. It's all perspective I guess.

To be clear: I agree with your points that /Earth should be excellent against AV-class enemies and that your videos show a lot of promise in that area. I just hesitate to call such a character an AV killer until that character actually kills one without help.
It sounds like we're all actually agreeing with each other here.. I also apologize if my recent post came across a little more peeved than I intended. Recent posts from both you and DC are making a case for /Earth as very potent secondary. Yes, it's a lot of melee and ST damage. However, for those of us who aren't afraid of "Squishy Melee" its looking pretty good.

I'm actually working on a Grav/Earth that I'd like to perma. The stacking hold potential , especially in the late levels is looking good. If I can solo an AV with it, I'll let you know.

If it was a full team of eight, I'd see the point of the additional comments....however again it was THREE Doms, no corrupter or brute in site. Not even a MM....

I am impressed. If you're not than I say try it yourself with three Dominators and tell me how it went...

Hmm that's what I thought. grav/earth might end up being the ST powerhouse of the dom sets. High ST damage and High ST hold mag...of course you sacrifice AoE control and damage for it. But I guess thats the trade off.

Singularity is the first Gravity power that hasn't disappointed me (more on this in a later post). Singularity has me victorious against Mynx in short order and I'm already noticing a better solo playstyle with it around.

I wish I could say the same about Back Alley Brawler though, but I suspect he has a high Smashing resistance so I think I'll need a team for him.

I've been reading this thread and enjoying it! One thing that's starting to impress me, is the ST hold potential Grav/Earth might have. I'm anxious to see how you do solo now with Singy at your side! Seismic Smash, ST-Hold, Singularity, Powerboost, and Domination is going to be some very impressive hold magnitude. Very impressive....I can't wait to read more!

  23. Hey I'm working on my arc submission for Doc Aeon's contest and I'm looking for any info on the "Petrovich Brothers". You know the founders of the Skulls! Is there any other background info to be found other then what's on the main COH site. I'm looking for history, names, etc...

I hear there's an uber super secret lore "bible" the Devs have I don't hope to get my hands on that..but if there's a dev that wouldn't mind giving me a little info (thats not a spoiler) I'd sure appreciate it...or anyone else.

Edit: Opps it's Petrovic....not Petrovich..that's another character in the game who is supposedly no relation...

Yah that might not be bad. In the pre-i0/pre-dom buff days I played regularly with a sg mate Who's Fire/Fire was freaking amazing. Took down mobs really fast with kin support. Now with the buffing and availble IO's I'd imagine you could make a pretty sick Fire/Fire.../Earth looks interesting, but I just can't seem to get into it.
  25. Not bad...but I can't remember if we've had 3-doms perma holding an AV before on other all dom teams or not. I work late hours these days..so I miss all the fun!!!

I'm wondering though if it would be possible to make an /Earth Dom that was capable of soloing an AV...hmmm. I wonder what primary maybe an Earth/Earth.....hmmmm.
