  3. As it says in the title, I've filled out the user name and password field on the login screen, and it keeps telling me I haven't. I logged in fine this afternoon and now it's telling me I'm not putting in all of the information when I /am/.
  4. For the longest time now, I'd say several months to a year, I've been having issues with the updater. The game runs fine, when the updater stops bugging out on me.

    If I start the game more than twice a day, the updater keeps telling me that it has to fix the COH game files. And often it will stop doing that and just hang there for a good fifteen to twenty minutes doing nothing.

    When it finally does finish, the game runs fine, but if I log out and log back in later in the day it starts right back up again. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times since the issue began and nothing seems to fix it. What could be causing this?

  6. All three of the new character slots I had remaining were suddenly lost after the servers came back yesterday. Any way I can get these back?
  7. Thanks. It was sort of unnerving at first, but the more I think of it now, the more I am positive about all of the support that survivors get from the community. It does my heart good.
  8. It's people like this that make me have hope for the rest of humanity.



    I play Aria Evermore on Virtue, and this nice person decided to portray breast cancer survivors as heroes, in tribute to Breast Cancer Awareness month (Oct.). I found it very refreshing as well as somewhat eerie, since my mother just got out of mastectomy surgery for just this reason a scant few days ago. It dang near made me cry.

    This just made me feel really good. My mother was also very appreciative.

    Yanno. If a person puts 'lol' or ':P' at the end, middle or beginning of something, generally that means their not being serious.

    Everyone else was joking about being reimbursed, so I joined in...

    Where did this all become an issue anyway?

    Meh, it's a hold-over from working in a technical support capacity, where the only way to avoid complaints... is to quit.

    My underlying issue here is that I understand what the devs are trying to do, what kind of system they're having to maintain... and how it feels when all they can see is people complaining. Believe me, virtually no one EVER calls them and says "Wow, you people are bloody awesome, and I really enjoy your product and appreciate the work you have to do to keep it going." And, having been an active forumite on other games, I'm also acutely (and personally) aware of how players who DO voice their appreciation are treated by the seething masses of nay-sayers. "Flamed... badly" comes to mind. Thankfully, the CoH community is a far cry from most, i.e. vastly more mature. But still...

    Can't help it; whenever I see BIG complaints about LITTLE things, my knee-jerk reaction is to back the devs up... because I've been there.
    Actually, that's not true. When I started playing again after a two year long hiatus, I called in to have my password reset because I couldn't remember it.

    I had a rather lovely conversation with a young man, who reset my password, and was very pleasant about it, and when it was all said and done I believe the words I used were...

    "Thank you -so- much. -Bless you.- You guys are awesome."

    I play Neverwinter Nights, and I built/run/host/DM my own server, so I know what it's like to not receive praise, so I make sure to give it out whenever I can to folks who I think deserve it.

    The the people running the maintenance - I understand that sometimes this can take longer than expected, but at least update the server status, or do a quick status update that says "Maintenance taking longer tna expected, servers expected to be restored at such and such time." That would go a long way towards fulfilling the expectations of paying customers.

    And totally agreed as far as the maintenance comment is concerned. ^^

    And, as might be expected, they can't exactly get everyone's input on when the best time for additional server maintenance can be performed, since the only logical consensus would be "never". Sucks that you got the short straw this time around, but that's the way it is.


    *shrugs* I already did the math for the value of the (currently) 2 hours of additional downtime. Where would you like that 4 cents sent?

    As for wanting an explanation:


    The amount of downtime necessary to fix a server issue is only ridiculous to the vast number of people who've never had to isolate and fix an issue on one. People who have also know that it's counterproductive to waste time putting an explanation in plain language and updating a website strictly for the purpose of advising everyone about a temporary problem, and then have to go back and remove said advisory when it's fixed.


    I don't have a problem with folks coming here to find out if there's an issue, find out there is and move on, and there are plenty of folks here "blowing off steam" far more constructively in the form of playful banter. Is it too much to ask that people refrain from coming here and saying (in effect) "I'm mad and I expect compensation for my anguish"?

    *shrugs*I already know the answer to the question, but I'm still going to call people on it.
    The compensation comments were ... jokes.

    At least, that's how I took them, and that's certainly how I intended mine to be taken.

    Also... Really... if you don't want to see people complaining, then honey, in all honesty, no one's holding a gun to your head and telling you to read the topic. :P

    Let people blow of steam, as I said, it's not hurting anyone.

    :P My squishy Archery/Empathy Defender is basically a weakling. She has like three attacks, and everything else is dedicated to buffs and healing.

    She is so not super powered. :P But dang if she isn't cool-looking.

    Exactly. It doesn't bother me that the servers are down, it bothers me more that we aren't being told what's going on.

    And that the server status hasn't been updated in over a week? That's just ridiculous.

    I'm not the only one complaining, firstly, so, really, this was unnecessary don't you agree?

    Secondly, I just posted a little while ago that I only have a few days to be able to play before I'm away from the internet for a few weeks. So it's not like I have all that time to wait around.

    Thirdly, if I pay for a service to be rendered and that service is in fact, -not- rendered, and I'm given absolutely no reason why or no explanation? Then because -my- hard earned money is being given up to be able to use this service, I, and everyone else who pays for the game, has every right in the world to complain. Bashing people for complaining when a service they are -paying for- is not being provided, and no explanation why is being offered, is really not fair.

    I can understand when a server needs to be down for maintenance. That's fine, all well and good. But for it to be down for now, two hours longer than they said it would be? That's a bit ridiculous in and of itself. But for it to be down for two hours longer than they said it would be, and -not provide us with a reason why-? That's downright silly.

    Let people complain. They aren't hurting anyone, they're just blowing off steam.

    Well, this is very frustrating. 7AM EST I come to play, and it's now 10:12 AM EST. And I've got until Sunday before I'm offline for two weeks, so I'm trying to play as much as possible before then.

    And the server status page isn't updated since the 7th? Come now...

    People pay good money to play this game, least we could be provided with is a reason why we can't log in.

    Am I right?
