Quote:My character is almost done. This won't be a problem for me in the future. The way I see it, if it's consistently giving you more than average drops then the RNG is broken. Maybe we need to get an Admin. in here to fix the problem that is obviously occurring so that this stops and the drops become random for you just like everyone else.
Just my thoughts. -
Pricing is the number one thing you think about when running a business. It's based on costs, overhead, sales and other factors. If your changing your pricing, either your costs are going down so much you can lower your prices(Wal-mart) or you got caught by something unexpected that forced you to raise them(Public Transit/Shipping/gas). You don't just throw a new pricing model out there just to do it.
-
All big companies talk regularly...they are all talking about F2P in gaming I'm sure but they'll be last the to do it until it is proven with at least 3 years results and more market research on buying habits of mmo gamers.

Quote:I'm not saying it can't work. COH doesn't have to be the leader in this area. Let someone else take the risk and learn from them. You're stating your preferences as fact without evidence to back it up.
You should feel free to do that, but until you can show evidence that it doesn't work, I'm pretty much free to call you on it.
What "business" can you give stuff away for free and survive? -
Quote:Have you ever heard the terms, "Pricing Power" or "Sustainable Pricing?" I say this because the smart people don't experiment with pricing because it can destroy your businesss. Businesss is not as flexible as you may think(Large Companies). You can destroy profitability of whole industries if you don't stay on top of this. This is why large companies eat other companies regularly to keep pricing power strong. F2P is a risk venture.Ok, working under the assumption that they are in a full F2P system as opposed to a hybrid one, if a rep presented the data that showed some typical player profiles and the cost was almost identical to what you pay now and you fit into one of those profiles - would such a clever consumer still see right through that and leave?
I can only assure you that the best companies are anything but complacent and satisfied with the status quo...
There would only be mom and pop stores if that were the case. National and global entities emerge because motivated people ask things like "what can we do to capture more of the market?"
That isn't to say there is anything wrong with running a smaller operation but your premise that business ONLY seeks new answers when they are failing is quite incorrect.
Smart businesses and smart business people don't turn away people that they can extract profit from. Especially if they have a highly customizable product. -
Quote:Don't get me wrong, she has the potential to be a "Fun" girl but she's not the one you'll marryThanks! Was just checking to see exactly what you meant.
Yeah, it's all just opinions, of course, but she's always seemed beautiful to me. She seems a bit too striking to call common, but no arguments here, as it's just opinions.
I can say that she has a sort of, almost awkward, rugged/oddness about her, but I don't think it detracts from her beauty (and likely adds to it).
Regardless, I totally agree with you that the big difference in that picture seems to be the smile.
I don't think that the uproar over the costume and initial photos led to the pilot being turned down (you never really know), but I do think they sure mishandled all of that!
A shot of her in that costume, smiling... Just might have made more people go... "Ahhh, look, it's Wonder Woman".
Something nice about seeing her smiling in that outfit.
Seems like a lot of failure all around this project.Do this make things clearer?
She just doesn't have the star power(TPA&Face)...Lynda Carter is still better looking. The next WW will have to be able to put her legacy to rest.
You don't get to be WW if your not better looking than her. My comments are superficial but this how hollywood thinks. It's all about Personal Power. -
Is this a Business 101 class?
Business paid subs are useful...for obvious reasons. F2p accounts will be laughed at by accountants/financiers. Paid subs is a model lots of industries use. Who else uses an F2P model besides gaming?
Can you do F2P at Mcdonalds or Starbucks?
Will Wal-mart let you do it?
Can you convince AT&T(They call it "Pay as you go"...but you pay first!)?
Monthly cashflow increases is the bottomline, paid subs are the accepted practice by business. It allows you to forecast with more reliability. There is no linkage, consistency between a discretionary purchase today and next week. It's a model that can be easily abused for accounting purposes. It won't work.
Let's watch Turbine for now and see what happens. They have the best chance to make this work because they built a model from scratch with no legacy base. -
Quote:Your predictive skills are amazing.
Can I have some winning lottery numbers while you're at it?
I won't give you winning lottery numbers but I will say this:
A profitable business model is stable. It doesn't change on a fad. A company changes it methods only when the current model doesn't work.
The model they have is working and doesn't need to be changed currently. If you can't come up with $14.99 you need to get.... -

Quote:F2P won't work here because we're too smart. Most of us know this about F2P and will move as soon as they try it...unless it's a whole new game from the ground up!!I wouldn't say that.
And this contradicts the above.
The idea of the F2P model is that the playerbase as a whole pays more, so the company makes more. But the average player pays the same or less as the typical MMO subscriber for the same level of content. That makes the model individually attractive to individual players, and attractive on the whole for the company.
The trick is an execution trick: to ensure that the relative value you get at the different price points is attractive enough to attract players and convince a high enough percentage of them to pay. While its not an easy balancing act, the target is certainly not extremely difficult to hit because many games seem to hit it successfully. -
Quote:I agree completely but I want to add one more thing. PS/Ncsoft adding F2P is another software dimension of the game that has to be maintained that will come at our expense(less content). When trial accounts were first offered they had almost no restrictions. They quickly became a source of serious problems in the game, and their capabilities had to be drastically curtailed to prevent scams. Now trial accounts can do almost nothing.
Of necessity, F2P accounts would have to have the same level of restrictions, to avoid all the problems that unlimited trial accounts gave us.
To prevent abuse and inflicting a massive influx of nitwits and exploit hounds on the paying playerbase there would have to be some kind of wall between the F2P players and "real" players.
But characters on such accounts are essentially unplayable for more than a few hours. You can't get a real feeling for the game on a trial sub.
People tend to devalue things that cost nothing. They value expensive things, even when those things have no intrinsic value. Designer clothes and shoes are often shoddier than sturdy apparel that costs 10 times less. Yet everyone wants the fancy brand-name stuff.
People also despise things that misrepresent themselves. If a game claims to be F2P, yet you get nickel- and dimed to death for everything you need, you wind up feeling cheated. You won't ever get invested in the game and you'll quickly leave.
Also, giving something to new people for free (and letting in the rabble) would alienate many of the most devoted players. The last thing the devs can afford to do is tick off their paying playerbase.
When you come right down to it, if people can't afford to play a computer game, then they shouldn't play the game.
I would heartily endorse a better trial experience, but we've seen how hard that is to do.
$14.99 monthly isn't really that much...people spend this much just going to the mall and a movie weekly. -
One more thing, this girl is "Handsome" not beautiful.

NBC is not the right place for Wonder Woman, She needs to go to Syndication.

Quote:The only thing that influences how many shards you get is the number of kills your team gets. You want more shards? Kill more dudes.
In this way, if you are clearing missions, the LGTF is probably best because of the massive numbers of mobs, but which TF you do it on is irrelevant. A RANDOM roll is made for each eligible person on the team independent of each other for each kill the team makes. The only way to make drops for shards more likely is to be on a task force. Pick your favorite TF and go to town.
The reason people get higher and lower number of shards on different TF's is because of the different ways they can be run. People in this thread talk about getting 8-10 shards on ITF. With my group of global friends and the way we do high speed runs, I'm luck to get 3 shards on an ITF.
Good point, I was going to mention the speed run the versus farm run (if you want to call it that) issue but I think time in the mish plays a factor. If your done in 2 hours versus 30 -45 minutes, your chances for random rolls is higher. I did two runs last night, and on the speed run, I only got 6 shards but I had to go back into the mish for another hour to reach 10 shards on the speed run. -
Quote:Last night's results:
All teammates are level 50s. I got 9 shards, which falls in my average amount for an ITF of 8-12 shards. No purple drops.
So, as you can see, random is random. LGTF is not a shard farm.
Can you run ITF all week like I did with LGTF(1 run per day) and post the results? I'd like to compare. Thanks for the post. I'm posting till next tuesday, May 31st.. -
Quote:Well, I wouldn't go as far as to say it doesn't look impressive. As it could of looked different on film.
That said, it looks just as good at the very least as the Linda Carter WW outfit.
This picture is nicer but the real difference is the smile. I think we never saw her in a smiling photo. But anyways, I feel the creativity applied to this show was mediocre. They could have, should have put more effort into this...they could have made this work with the right creative director.
Someone will get this right one day. NBC just really isn't in a position to do this right now. -
Quote:If this was directed to me, I'm running Win XP so this isn't an issue for me.
Yeah, I'm aware of this. That was how I first installed the test server. But NCSoft launcher refused to update it after I upgraded from the old launcher, so I tried a clean install, which also didn't work.
I'm sorry, not sure I understand. The download actually happens. The Launcher will download the full client. But once it reaches 100%, instead of installing the game then, it will simply revert to 0% and start downloading all over again. And this just keeps happening endlessly.
Your last comment is an IP port issue. I had that problem with DCUO when I played it. One of the IP ports was being blocked and couldn't finish the download and it reinstalled/redownloaded for a whole day till I figured it out. -

Quote:Free games have a use but they'll never be truly free, it's just another name....CoH will never have power customization, either. The Devs said so many, many times.
That being said (tongue firmly in cheek), I don't favor going F2P if there isn't a clear advantage to doing so, for example drawing in new subscribers. Case in point: I subbed to another game in 2008. 18 months later, due to frustrations with the lack of soloability in main story content, I left. Less then a year ago, they switched to F2P. I started playing again, realized they'd rectified the majority of my issues with it, and I've been resubbed since late last year.
I have no qualms about playing (and subscribing to) a game that's "free". My problem is that I have no desire to see the game flooded with leeches... and in my experience, they make up a significant fraction of the people who keep asking for it.
Let me say it another way, conditioning of a group to a new monetized model. -
Just for the record, I'm not an investor in Ncsoft/Paragon Studio nor have I been paid to make comments here.
-
Quote:I understand what your saying but what we are talking about is hypothetical...coh will never go F2P.In case you missed it (and I'm not being accusatory or facetious; I don't keep up with all dev/rep posts myself), they are addressing this very problem in a very non-hypothetical way as we speak. I'll let Second Measure chime in from another thread...
This is the kind of constructive concern that I like seeing posted, something tangible that NCsoft/Paragon Studios could actually address. Unfortunately, with the "I'm leaving the game..." comment on a hypothetical change, you're coming off as pushing an agenda instead of having a good faith discussion. If the lag issue was solved even with higher populations of F2Pers, do you still maintain that you'd leave? If so, why?
At any rate, since this is hypothetical, I'm probably going to stop posting in this thread. As interesting as it is, I do have a bunch of other stuff I need to work on.
What agenda do you think I'm trying to push? What agenda do think I have as a paid sub to CoH?
I play this game end of story. I commented on the current problems in the game. Since CoH will never go F2P, I'll never leave
If I did have an agenda, I would be banned or comments removed by Community Manager. Now if I said YOU should leave that's a problem.
I can speak my opinion this is America. -
Quote:No, we talked about this before. I can't keep team stats, unless I can it is worthless. I can't ask every teammate to install herostats for every run.Are you actually keeping track in a SPREADSHEET, so you can apply MATH? A couple of posts a week are meaningless because you're depending on MEMORY of what the patterns (if any) are. You need STATISTICS. You can post a run twice a week for ETERNITY and it means nothing - unless someone is keeping track of the numbers.
Oh, and without keeping track of the NUMBER of enemies defeated, the posts are worthless anyway. The drops are based on enemy defeats so the number of enemies is the single most important piece of information (after the number of drops). -

Saw this today. I know I'm late....
My test of a movie is if you can see it twice. This one is a go! I hope this is still in the theatres when I see x-men first classThis movie was all action.
