Quote:And the thought's appreciated Dan! I think it's good to have one place to go to for all things Mo!Everyone feel free to organize your own runs; I was unsure whether we had a thread going for this so I decided to "jump in feet first," and make a place to do so. I don't have a huge Super Group or a ton of friends who would even want to try Master of runs.
I'd like to set something up for next week, Thursday night around 7-8pm EST. This can be a RSF or STF, whichever seems to get more people.
Sign up here or send me an in-game tell to @ArmlessDan and I'll see what we can stir up.
I won't be able to help out on Thursday as I'll be at work at that time, so I'll just wish you good fortune on the attempt! -
I'd be willing to help out on any "Mo" efforts, though I've only run the STF often enough to be familiar with it I'd definitely need a non-Mo attempt for any non-STF efforts.
Weeknights I'd be able to log in around 6:30-7pm Pacific/9:30-10pm Eastern.
Weekend log in times are more flexible, but availability would be spotty.
This would put me in the available for pre-arranged efforts camp & likely makes me more trouble than I'm worth, but I figure I'd let you know if for some odd reason you can't get enough people to make a go of things. -

Talia it is!(Though... now that I think about it... Kat's claws are pretty bad for one's health aren't they?)

Quote:Apparently I'm following standard practice #2.Do they automatically add an extra 18% gratuity to the bill for banquets? I think that's standard practice. (It's also standard practice for everyone to forget that until the very end and 3/4 of the people have paid and left, so I thought I'd bring it up now.) If so, all those prices will be +18% unless you already included it.
The prices listed were the prices quoted, no mention of an included gratuity in the quote. -
Quote:I swung by after work to check on the location of the PW Supermarket & it isn't actually there. There's supposed to be another PW up Brokaw Road, but I didn't check on that one because I was getting hungry. However the Google Maps marker was on a building with a parking lot, so I'm more inclined to believe that one exists. I'll check some other time. If there, it's not the closest grocery indicated, but it would be the simplest to find & would likely meet most of the needs tremorr mentioned.I haven't been out by the hotel to verify this, but according to Google Maps, there's a PW supermarket (2001 Gateway Pl #220W, San Jose) across the street from the hotel (the reason I'm concerned is that the marker is in the street.) If this is true, this should take care of both those needs (even though PW wouldn't be a discount liquor store.) Also of note, there's a CostCo (1601 Coleman Ave, Santa Clara) on the other side of the airport from the hotel. Y'know... just in case you need industrial-sized quantities of your favorite beverages & snacks...

Quote:If you have dollar values to associate with the price ranges I can see what suggestions I can come up with if you don't already have places in mind. I'll leave the organizing to someone else just because I figure the organizer should be able to be on-site at the time of the event.Might I suggest we three different restaurant options varying on price?
Quote:Also, in preperation for what is likely to come, we should try and find a discount liqour and a grocery store nearby, this will be much cheaper than the hotel prices if someone wants a "pop" or their toothpaste exploded all over their cape. -
Quote:Curse you Talia_Rayvyn!!!But that is evened out with the fact that out of the 10ish people in the guild, 8 of them have 80s, so if there's something you need assistance with you always have someone to help ya out... Unless you ask Gnome. Never do that. Ever.
Now I'm curious as to what happens... -
I missed the event coordinator yesterday, but was able to speak to someone who was familiar with the banquet menus today. Here's the $/person for the 3 dinner banquet menus:
Classico - $22.95 - choose 3 items & 1 dessert, incl soft drinks, coffee & tea
Supremo - $27.95 - choose 4 items & 1 dessert, incl soft drinks, coffee & tea
Glorioso - $35.95 - choose 10 items & 2 desserts, incl soft drinks, coffee & tea
Link to Buca di Beppo (apparently I can't get it to link directly to the banquet menu.) -
Connecting redfaced & Going Rouge is my guess.
WB Philly, though I kinda missed when you actually left.
Heck, I'll throw in a WB to Phantastik as well, though she had more of a stealth return! :P I noticed when Sirikit killed me outside the hospital in Siren's! -
Quote:I'll post the pricing info once I get it. Though as always, I'd rather that not be a concern that keeps people away.1a1) If yes, which banquet items appeal?
--I'd feel more comfortable knowing the cost per person before deciding. I know your own generosity seemingly knows no bounds, but I also know that for some people, the ability to take advantage of such generosity knows no limits. I'd like the cost to be within reason for everyone, even if some people need help covering. Some people don't like to let anyone else cover their costs, especially if they think something is expensive. Keeping the cost per person down would help people feel more comfortable with allowing someone else to cover them if they need it.
The only thing that comes to mind is the possibility of needing badging supplies. Thus far everyone that has said they're coming also came last year, so should be recognizable to everyone else. However, I'm hoping there will be new faces, and even if not, I figure it's a chance for people to be expressive if they want to be & I'm all for that! -
After poking around the Buca site, I realized a number of things:
1) I don't really need to wait on a response from them on anything just yet.
2) What I really need to do is figure out how we want to do this!
If we have a group of 15 or more, Buca di Beppo has a banquet menu we can draw on. As with last time, this appeals to me as with a prearranged menu, there's no sitting around figuring out what we're going to have, and more time for schmoozing! While I'm not as big an eater as I used to be, I do enjoy variety & having choices, so I was going to be sure to inquire about thier Glorioso menu when checking prices.
So... for now, I'm going to poll for interest here until it looks like we have a good head of steam going & then probably start a new "official" dinner thread.
So dinner questions to be answered:
1) You coming?
1a) If yes, banquet menu ok?
1a1) If yes, which banquet items appeal?
1a2) If no, what do you propose we do instead?
1b) If no, are you weenie-ing out because you THINK you can't afford it?
1b1) Does the wording of my question above change your answer?
1b2) If no, what the heck is wrong with you?
2) Anything we MUST have (even if not on the banquet menu)?
(I figure we might have some leeway in this regard as omissions cost the same as some included items.)
3) Preferred dining date/time? My planned default is Friday Oct 23, 5:30pm which will hopefully allow us to dine without rushing to get to whatever Niv might be putting together on Friday
I guess that's good enough of a starting effort for putting this together.

Quote:Doh!Turns out you guys were in the other corner of the restaurant!
You probably missed us because we were so blissed out on bacon waffles & assorted other goodies, that we were not our usual boisterous selves! Though how you missed TJ's lost expedition's arrival is beyond me. -
Haven't done anything about it yet. I was thinking about checking to see how far in advance they'll take reservations to see when I should start polling for interest (to figure how how many to reserve for.) Also, I should check to see which location would be most suitable. I'd think the one in the Pruneyard as I think it's closest & has reasonable parking available, but since I haven't looked...

Oh yeah... someone remind me to ask them to hold off on the powdered sugar on my bacon waffle.

Quote:I'm excited. I have my ticket and hotel room reserved and now have to make flight arrangements.
I'd like to do the Bucca dinner and I definitely want to go to that place with the bacon waffles again. My goodness, those were good!Quote:Oh my yes, we have got to get some bacon waffles this year.
I'll recommend the Saratoga Avenue location again even though the drive is a bit more complicated.
It's the closest & I think the atmosphere & service are better than the alternatives.
P.S. We are going to make sure Bob makes it right? I'm pretty sure he'd NEVER forgive us if we left him behind! -
Quote:Erm... I don't watch Mythbusters so I couldn't say. Well... I suppose I could do a websearch & find out, but it's easier to say I don't know. I do know that his collection has been written about at various times & that the foundation does make the collection available to researchers & for commercial purposes. So given this, I could see that it's possible.Cool, makes me wish I was thinking of going. That is the collection they've used on Mythbusters?
It's a shame you aren't planning to make it out. The Con itself is a blast & like I said, if you like tanks, this is a collection that shouldn't be missed. -
Hey guys!
Even though AFAIK Niv still hasn't announced the hotel, I thought I'd get the ball rolling on one of my HeroCon pet projects. Since people have griped about having to go "all that way" to the SF Bay Area in the past, I've always sought to do something to make it worth the trip. This year, I'm looking into arranging a tour of the Jacques Littlefield military vehicle collection. For those of you who like tanks and other military vehicles, this is the place to go! You won't find another place in the world where these vehicles have been so lovingly restored inside & out.
I've been in contact with the tour coordinator and found out that there is a 2pm slot on the 24th and that if we have a group of 30+, we can have the place to ourselves. If a smaller group, they'll try to incorporate smaller groups into our tour. I figured I'd start polling interest here to start things small & then open it up later. Maybe it's dumb to do it that way, but I figure Id give you guys first shot at it!
I realize the 24th is one of the days of the Con & I'll be trying to see if another day is possible, but I also thought I'd see which day interested folks would prefer, before or after the Con?
Other things that may affect your decision:
1) This is an active walking tour spread over 5 buildings and several acres
2) Tours of the collection last approximately 2+ hours
3) Generally tours are not suitable for young children, though special accomodations can be made, they'll need to know the general age demographic.
4) A donation of $20 to the Military Vehicle Technology Foundation (MVTF) is requested per tour participant.
P.S. I'm still planning on arranging SchmoozeFest '09, so this won't be an either/or proposition. -
Gratz to all the folks who leveled like crazy over the weekend!
I managed to log in for a bit on Sunday and get a level or two on a brute, but that's about it.
However, I had a nice surprise when I went to the short-notice D&D game! A buddy got me one of the Knives of Artemis costume codes! No call from Posi verifying that he was getting it for me or a grilling about the game to ensure that I actually play, but admonishment from Posi about selling it on E-Bay was passed along! No worries about that. I like the picture of Desdemona too much to part with it. Also... I now have the urge to throw out zillions of caltrops for some reason... -

I'd argue that the 52 (at least I think that's what it is now) merits for blueside Hamidon raids is likely the best ratio. Especially considering the 35 minute or under times Justice has been running lately.

???
39Merits/25min = 1.56M/m > 52Merits/35min = ~1.49M/m
Oh... wait... logic... reason... math skills... not applicable to Justice threads... -

Wait wait wait.... they drive slow to compensate for "slow reaction times"?
My common sense is tingling...
Isn't that the exact same reason why people aren't allowed to drive DRUNK?
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, I think the reason people aren't allowed to drive drunk is due to the impaired judgement that goes along with the condition. -
