Actually Posi's tweet says:
Quote:.Positron_CoH.@Jester559 Me and Mod8 came back bearing the aPAXalyptic flu
It looks like he was responding to Jester and Mod8. Hopefully he didn't get it when TheOcho came back from PAX. I do wish everyone well.
Never mind, this just in from Posi:
Quote:Positron_CoHI have been officially diagnosed with h1n1, and poss. bronchitis. I do not wish this on anyone.

Here's the method that received an Ig Nobel prize: Termination of intractable hiccups with digital rectal massage.
It's science.

Go to your User Control Panel. I can't remember if you had to turn the viewing of them on in Options or not.
Quote:Are you sure about that Lazarus? I know the grey one are from people that don't have enough of their own rep to effect the person their +/- rep'ing. The amusing thing as well is that all the negative comments are from people with negative rep to begin with. That little jellybean next to the comment is what they have themselves, not what they gave you. Was confused about it myself when I was getting comments where the jellybean was grey and I knew that you cannot give "neutral" rep.
Edit: Because the FAQ states...
Quote:How do I know what reputation I have received?
You can view the reputation that you have received in your User CP (User Control Panel) where it is displayed at the bottom of the User CP page. Here you will see the latest reputation that you have received and whether this is positive, negative or neutral. Your total reputation will be shown as series of reputation indicators in your posts and profile. The more positive your reputation, the more positive icons will be shown. The more negative your reputation the more negative icons will be shown. -
I wish I had saved all the useful tips, and weirdness that people had posted in that old thread as it has fallen off of the edge of the forums world.
So here I am to start it again, because OD was curious as to what tip I gave to Kyo to cure the hiccups.
Q: So how do I cure hiccups?
A: Simple. I drink out of the top of a glass.
Now at first this sounds like a prank, I assure you, it is not.
- First off, the glass doesn't have to be big. I use a coffee mug.
- Fill it about half way with water.
- Now for the tricky part. If you don't have good balance you might want something nearby to put a hand on, like a chair.
- Start to bend over at the waist and as you lean farther forward, put the top of the glass under you upper lip. (Just as your lower lip would normally be, but opposite.)
- Continue in this fashion until you can drink from the glass.
- How much to drink is up to you. I drink about half, set the glass down and stay in that position for another 20 sec.
- Stand back up.
-
Makes me wonder if the thread is still there to necro.

I must be doing something wrong, I'm on teams every night.
Last night was Victory, night before was Justice, and the night before that Protector. -
Didn't think I was crazy when I suggested how to cure hiccups.

Quote:Yeah, well, we had the hollows.
"No, go around the edge and watch for mobs!"
"But we can cut through the gulch..."
"And the trip back from Atlas hospital will take longer. Trust me."
*gets out book as teammates die to Igneous over and over.*Quote:This is why I laugh and/or eyeroll at people refusing to go to the Hollows until they have a Kings Row travel pack.
Seriously, Hollows should be mandatory*, just so they know how it feels to run from mob after mob of bad guys, pelted with super-heated plasma, lead, and the odd rock.
Hell, back in the day it was just lead and rocks from Trolls and Outcasts. Now you get pelted by all kinds of junk.
But you have a hospital, and a trainer! You rooks don't know how good you got it!
*Some application of jest/sarcasm may be required
And I'll be happy to take on any level 1 footrace. Although the 'Level 1's Storm the Palace' race is on a weekend if I recall correctly, and I work weekends.

Quote:I think I've gotten myself off-track. Criticism is different from critiquing something. When you criticize something, in my mind, you are basically just pointing out negatives. Critiquing something involves suggestions on how you would go about doing something differently. Criticism is unsolicited and critiques are usually solicited or inferred as a solicitation.Quote:Not sure if I said it earlier or if I did and edited it out, but there's a way to approach things that are more effective. I don't always expect people to agree with me or like me or my opinion. I do hope they respect it though and don't bash me for it. Probably I have too much hope that people can be decent. I do know, that as a general rule, they don't as witnessed on many internet forums, even these. It's why I tend to lurk instead of contribute. Oh but I will agree that you said "in the proper context" and I think that is what a lot of people forget.
I understand what you are saying about the long established techniques and agreed upon perspective etc etc. But to say there is only one right way to do that is a little silly, to me. Look around you. How much around you is the same? Not saying there aren't things but in nature things are not identical. The rules aren't always set in stone. It's art. It's subjective. For the most part I don't see anything on this site that is being done for an anatomy text book. I forget now but one person did ask for critiques on a project for their art class recently and even I put in a comment or two. But interestingly a lot of the critics saw different things that were "problems". That's odd. If there is only one set of rules, why didn't they all only see the same things as wrong? Because they are human and only certain things bothered them while others didn't.Quote:
I really think I'm done with this topic. I actually am just feeling down. I think there is a time and place for critiques and there is a way to do them without just being rude. That's how I try to do them and that's all I can do.
While there are people here that are not flexible and cannot take critiquing of there work, I have seen others that post critiques that just by their choice of words, everything comes off as rude.
You should write more things late at night. -
Can we get some plants/trees without pots/planters under them? It's a pain in the backside to hide that stuff, especially if you want to use them in a location where you do nit wish to place another object to hide their pot/planter.

Quote:If stated that way, then there is no way to not sound like a pretentious *****.I think it depends on the purpose of the art. Was it a freebie an artist did? Is the artist looking for critique? Did the artist post it themselves? Offering feedback on something an artist whips out for fun and posts is magnitudes different than criticizing a piece of art some one posts that they had commissioned an artist for for instance.
In one case it comes across as helpful commentary, in the other, as a pretentious ***** telling someone that they wasted their money for something they are likely very happy with. -
From the other thread:
Quote:That part is true and I don't see why negative comments should be tolerated.Wow, I've spent about 15 minutes starting about 4 different replies and then self censoring each and every one of them.
All I'm going to say is:
Sorah, you've got some great pieces both here and on your DA page. When I do break down and commission some pieces I'll definitely give you a consider...
As for prices: I think whenever anyone is buying anything they should comparison shop and go where they think their money is best spent for what they want.
As for criticism: I'm a newb here and just basically have an outsider looking in perspective but I do find this board a bet of a love in where negative comments really don't seem welcome. Personally I would prefer a bit more openess about how piece x, y or z could be improved and such (once thinking I had enough talent to be an artist I still find myself interested in those who are and their techniques and such) but basically I figure that if the choice is between a love fest with no criticism and a tear down everything we see fest... Well then let the dirty hippies win!
Criticism, when constructive, is neither negative or positive. There's a big difference between "That looks like crap." and "Your perspective on X seems to be off." -
Mighty generous of you Calash. Thanks for the information.

Can't say that I have ever had a bad experience, with an in-game GM, or with Customer Service. My last contact with CS took a week to resolve (there was a weekend in there) every contact made was from a different CS Rep up the chain, they were all courteous, apologetic if they couldn't resolve it and had to escalate.
I took the whole thing in stride, never got irate over the length of time it took. I mean come on, it's a game, not someone working on my car leaving me without transportation. I've had occasions where a GM couldn't resolve the issue in-game. Disappointed? Sure. Furious? Not really. I have more important things in my life to get stressed over.
