Dinner became an indirect form of wife agro. So, late as usual.
But hey! Still had fun, heads still rolled, and they weren't always mine!
Thanks for another great pvp event, Robo. Hope to see another one announced soon, if you want help finding prize support let me know.
@Raven Lord -
And the wolf needs you!
I mean, c'mon, he's a nine-foot-tall, 1,500-pound, sword-swingin fiend of a werewolf, so his calorie-a-day requirement's probably something like 15,000. At that point I can't afford his grocery bill, unless I get help from an organization like the BPRD*.
So, uh... he doesn't send all of his defeated enemies to the Zig. At least, not the delicious ones...
@Raven Lord
* Think Hellboy. I think 'Red' and Watch Wolf might be evenly matched in an eating contest - although it would empty out every grocery store in the Western Hemisphere if it ever occured. -
Tonights kickball might conflict a bit with dinner plans. Once again, the wolf might be late...

Quote:Oh, yeah, sure, like that ever actually happens?Yes lots of fun, and great having you guys back. But remember you're not officially moved in until the last box is unpacked.
AV
Anyways, I was happy to tag along on that ITF, and quite excited to have you two back. ShF has missed you, I know. Been kind of quiet, too (not that I haven't tried to help with that, but hey, that's me bein me).
Come back in and stir some things up! Been too long, good to know this time* went well.
@Raven Lord
*I know ye planned for it more, as well. Frankly I don't blame ye one bit, either, since I've never heard a movin story worse than that...(cue maniacal villianous laughter)... last one. -
@Ukase: I seem to have a similar tactic. I show up to pvp and get smacked around until I start retaliating in an effective manner. Sometimes, it even works!
@Hazy: Being one of the people who got AS'd more than once last Sunday, I can assure you it happens.
<level stare> And it would have happened LESS had somebody not kept netting and gluing random targets of opportunity to make the stalkers' night profitable...</level stare>
@Enderbean: Way to go! I LIKE that idea. Wonder if tp foe is still too 'improved' by i13 to work to tp people onto trip mines. I seem to recall they 'improved' that tactic into 'retirement'.
@Raven Lord -
Welcome back. I think I recall seeing your name in the pvp circles but I may be wrong, as I'm sure I've slept since then.
Dead West isn't kidding, as much as I wish he was. Zone pvp recently has had a bit of a spike in people. Thursday night I heard about 30 people in the 'burg dukin it out, all because one team came in, got the people there to call for help, who got that team to call in reinforcements.... good times.
Sure, the i13 changes to PvP stink so bad they'd knock a buzzard off of a poo wagon, but zone PvP itself can still be enjoyable at times.
Again, welcome back, and I look forward to teaming with you.
@Raven Lord -
Quote:Crap, now I have a sudden urge to send a letter to the devs asking for wheelchair heroes. No feeding the altoholic!Ya know... I often say that I am the last one picked for kickball... even after the kid in the wheelchair (but he's good)...
I'll be there as Watch Wolf again, unless a miracle occurs and one of my other lvl 40+ alts hits 50 in the next 48-ish hours.
@Raven Lord -
Yar. <coughcough>
<ahem> YAR!!
I'll be there pending cooperation between real life and my wonky memory.
@Raven Lord -
Currently being 3:30 am here <yawn>, just how wee are the hours ye're talkin here? And which zones?
-
Quote:<level stare> Yeah. I, uh, noticed that. <chuckles> Then again, I was getting to feel like I was using Impale to enforce a Shark-Only FlyZone. I got to where I was using it on anyone who got close to me while I was at altitude, and then going back to my target.It was entirely too much fun using the attack chain of entangling arrow -> glue arrow -> run away. I used that on PW atleast a dozen times
The random taunt did kinda suck. Took me a bit to realize what was going on. So, yeah, I agree, that was pretty bs.
@Raven Lord -
A big, HUGE, thank you goes out to all the people who came out last night and put the War back into Warburg. For too long, the 'burg, as I refer to it, has been far too quiet.
I'm really not sure how many there were there, either. About a dozen? And I know a few were first timers to PvP, to those: You Rock! And I hope ye come back, too.Was a fun crowd!
I didn't get any pvp drops. I seem to be allergic to those >.> , but oh well.
And Hazy? Not sure if ye caught my comment about Gadget, so I'll say it again. Really don't like that toon, she's become the paper to my rock everytime I've run into you in the 'burg.And I can't wait to be netted by her again, either. I swear, it got to the point where I'd be after someone else entirely and I'd get stopped cold by a net arrow, to which my reply was always the same - G******it Gadget!
I'm thinkin I need to bind the 'shake fist at sky' emote just so I can show my, uh... appreciation... of being caught in a net. I got to where I was lmao at how often it happened over the course of the hour+ we were fightin...
@Raven Lord (Who's toon last night was Carcharias. He started out as a large mutant great white shark, so it's especially demeaning to get caught in nets like some wimpy anchovy. Oi, the irony.) -
Event was awesome! Sorry I wasn't there on time. But the 'Showing up late but beheading everyone in sight to make up for it' award had me laughing my *** off.
I had a great time, and look forward to doing something like this again!
@Raven Lord (who hopes that a y2k bug resurfaces long enough to eat issue 13's information and backup information so they have to reset pvp to being - GASP! - the same as pve)
(oh the horror!)
-
I'll be bringing my BS / Shield Scrap most likely. See you folks there!
@Raven Lord -
So, testing the game is mostly complete.
To put it simply, I told support to close the ticket, the game's back to normal.
See you all on more than recently. And hopefully, I'll even see some of you at the 3v3 team pvp event tomorrow!
@Raven Lord -
One question...
How many people here have been talking this up ingame? I'm not saying blare it on broadcast in AP, but what about the global channels*? I've seen it in a motd in LB (I think), but not everyone reads those. Probably less than read the forums. The forum readership's a lot smaller than the server population, though.
Think if we talk this up, even if people don't sign up on the forums, we might get a few more show up day-of. Worth a shot? I think it's time for the people who like pvp to start recruiting people again, since otherwise, it's just going to stay dead. C'mon, lets get some new blood!
For those reading this who don't know about pvp, or tried it and didn't care for it, give it a shot, a second time if needed. It's not all bad. Remember, we're all still Liberty people here. Sportsmanship on this server's pretty huge. Not sure what's going on, there's folks who'll help you out.
@Raven Lord
*BTW, by global channels I refer to ShF, LB, and LFA. Others, I'm not aware of, and I'm sure everyone in Robo's Lounge already knows about this so that doesn't really count. -
Just got off the phone with the ISP, they confirmed I went over the download cap (by over 2 gb). Reinforces what my gut feeling was on the source of the problem.
@Tax E: On the subject of changing from this usb phone modem to honest to god cable broadband, I would soooooooo do it, in a heartbeat - IF I could afford it. Atm, I can't. So, alas, I'm stuck on this podunk little thing. But, on the bright side, it's better than no Internet at all.
@Ukase: The Blue Screen of Death is not dead, it's merely less common. I know I've seen one myself in the last six months. Sidenote- Microsoft, as an April Fool's gag, 'announced' that they would allow you to reconfigure your Blue Screen to be any color you wished it to be. This was quite some time ago, but I always thought it was funny as hell. Me, I would've changed it to be a nuclear mushroom cloud .jpg, just for laughs. Maybe attach a soundbite of a 5-year-old saying "boooooooooom!", too.
Oh. And thanks for the heads up on the free pancakes... might have to do the 1800's New York voting thing - "Vote Early, and Vote Often" - I've got plenty of beard I can shave off in increments to change my looks between servings. Lol. So, maybe, for me, it won't be just three of them!
Lord knows I can eat enough breakfast in one sitting to choke a Canadian logger.
@Raven Lord (who's still more of a Denny's kind of guy, but IHOP's ok) -
So, up until tonight, I'd been extremely frustrated with my ISP, computer, or anything else that might cause an excess of rubberbanding.
Some of you may be aware already, but I'll rewind a bit here for john q public. Feb 15th, I logged into CoH and got a rude surprise when I teamed up for a Posi 2. In the last mission, I got thrown into rubberband-hell for a good twenty minutes, plus. From a point inside the dam, through to the end of the mission, everyone was rubberband fighting.
Now, after that experience I was rather upset. But it never got better. At one Talos Rikti Invasion two nights later, I had two mapserver dc's and two coh.exe errors. All in one event, and the last pair of dc's weren't while I was on the hill, by that point I had made it close to the train.
Anyways, long story short, this hasn't stopped, and myself, real-life & ingame friends, and Paragon Tech Support haven't figured this out.
However, tonight I came across something on my ISP's website that was like an epiphany. I'm on a very tight budget, so I use Cricket Broadband. It's slow, but it's cheap. Well, like any other broadband service from a cellphone company, they cap you at (in my case) 5 gigabytes of download a month. In the case of Cricket, they don't charge extra if you go over.
Oh no.
They dethrottle your connection. It's been estimated at 100 kb/s. Not a healthy bandwidth for an MMO.
So, anyways, while this isn't proven, I'd bet money my sync issue will dissapear on March 1st.
As to why I'm posting this here, well, I was concerned that if I didn't fix this I would no longer be able to attend tf's with ingame friends that have missed having me along, as well as the 3v3 pvp tourney coming up. Suffice to say, this is a hope and a warning. It's possible I'm wrong and this won't change.
But, as I said, I'd bet money come March 1st that I'll be able to team again.
Until then, I won't be around. After that, I hope to be back to teaming with the crazy and cool folks on ShF, LB, and LFA again.
So, adios, I see a sunset needs riding off into. Until we meet again.
@Raven Lord
PS- I also want to take this opportunity to apologize to everyone who was on any tf that I used as a stresstest that inevitably failed. A few of these, I was able to get back in and quit to rescale the tf to the remainder, most I wasn't. I'm truly sorry, and if any of my fellow Liberty peoples have a bone to pick with me, I fully understand. -

Rain Dancer (51 hero storm/archery defender) joined an animal costume themed ITF, in honor of the animal booster pack. I spent about half an hour before the ITF trying to make a decent eagle costume (since Rain Dancer uses the tribal-looking eagle as a symbol) but just couldn't make it work, and for lack of a better idea I made a semi-Egyptian catgirl. At the actual ITF we had a minotaur, a gorilla, a ton of catgirls, and someone brought an amazing eagle costume that I had to run back to a tailor just to copy. Midway through the TF I felt really guilty about plagiarizing a teammate's costume, though, so I changed back to my cat costume from guilt. Our team had a massive amount of AoE and debuff and while fighting Romulus, we killed 2 of the Nictus AVs by accident due to AoE. Finished in 40m 33s and got an Unbreakable Constraint (chance for smashing) recipe drop.
First, and funny-most: Shakespeare stole, are you better than he?
Second, and in all seriousness: As someone who has used costume ideas from others, I find the guilt isn't a factor if I ask the creator if I can use it for inspiration.
Case in point, Silent Mist had a Warshade I teamed with once, that had a blow-me-away costume. Not only did I ask if I could take screenshots (for which he posed - flexing, of course, lol), but the next day, I had a new alt with a similar costume that had drawn inspiration off the 'shade. I asked him if he wanted to see it, to which he agreed, and he said he liked it, too.
At no time did I feel guilty about it. To be honest, I was worried about whether he would like what I changed. However, there have been cases where I couldn't contact and / or didn't know a costume's creator. In these cases, if I am complimented, I am quick to point out that I was inspired by a better outfit.
Hope this helps you out in the future, and keep rockin' PW!

Quote:I'm assuming that those are characters on live servers and you're not allowed to tell us their names. Although I agree with one of the above posters, having a <bleep> word for a hero name'd be funny as hell. I'd include my name in my battle-cry: The <bleep> has come for you, (target)!I've actually been surprised, as a returning player and working my way through the new GR content I've managed to get a few really cool names like [CENSORED] and [BLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP], which I thought would have been taken for sure.
On topic. I've been surprised by two names over the course of play. Back in Issue 4 era, I snagged Bengal Tigress, and although I didn't like her as a Katana Scrapper, or any other kind, either, I held on to her until GR came out. For some reason I had a vision of her as a DP, clear enough I was able to do a drawing of her. That was around January '10. She was my second 50, as I figured she deserved it in a sense, being - technically - my oldest alt. Put every other toon on hold for about a month to do it, too - many of whom were really close to 50 themselves.
The other name I was surprised at - shocked is a better word - was KingSlayer. I typed that into name-search over a year ago fully expecting it to be unavailable. I'm glad I checked, since it was. Blew me away. Similar names such as Widowmaker weren't, so why that one was available, I'm not sure. I'm not going to question my luck, either. -
Thank you for the shortlist, Robo. Hadn't had time to look up the (hated) i13 changes.
Think the biggest one I'd point out is this. With single target damage based on ani time, some powerset melee attacks become less favorable than power pool attacks. <sigh> So, Flurry, Jump Kick, and such tier 1 / 2 attacks in the power pools can be better than what you chose based on AT, as long as they have long ani times. Something to keep in mind.
One last thing - I think, all things being equal, that anyone who wants to show up with a toon that isn't decked out for the occasion should be fine. This is, after all, just for fun. -
First things first, but not entirely in that order...
Stickied! Whoa! I'm pleasantly shocked!
Quote:I'm probably rusty, but one thing I can say about builds. PvE builds have some things that don't change much in PvP, and some things that do. The PvP area of the forums are a good place to look at pvp builds, to get an idea of things.Holy handgrenades from Antioch! Robo, you got your thread stickied!
Now we just gotta PvP!
I'm not gonna do anything special, just gonna have my scrapper or my ice blaster, or one of my controllers available for this. A regular ol' run of the mill PvE build. If I have fun and win a few, great. If I have fun and lose a few, even better.
If I get smacked and don't have any fun, well, I gave it a shot, and then I'll save up for PvP build stuff.
And if I still get smacked around, I'll respec the PvP stuff and get rich again!
That said, everyone should have something they can do well, and defeat teaches us more than victory. Long story short, I absolutely agree with you Rex, and I can't wait for the fifth, either.
@Raven Lord -
As usual, roughly 5 minutes after I turned my computer off, my crud-fogged mind AS'd me, in a sense, as to why I was playing devil's advocate.
I see an all Stalker team as a challenge.
Think I'm likely alone on that. Maybe as a side event? Kidding!
<runs and hides, hoping that the couch medicine doesn't wear out> -
I agree.
But, iirc, +perception has always been kind of a given? That, and AS has soooo many countermeasures to it, too.
I'm not arguing for it, tbh. Think I'm just playing devil's advocate for no reason. -
Quote:Just my two cents, but... why? Each stalker on a team's going to mean their team-mates stand out like a smashed lip, and get pounded on twice as much.thinking about this, but might still have to restrict multiple stalkers
To my thinking, an all-stalker team vs an all visible team would end up with a score like a World Cup game between England and Jamaica, roughly one-zero. If that.
I could very well be wrong, though. All the stalkers I've run into have been in RV, so Arena could be more or less forgiving to them. <shrugs> -
Noticed my pvp toons've collected enough dust they'd probably not be much use. My Dark / Cold Dom Corr's still at 30, and I can honestly say she'd probably not be much help, considering that +def seems less than second-rate.
Might have to look at whipping some of my pve toons into pvp shape. Just so I have a cutoff, what level shoud I not bring anything lower than?
I only have 3 50's - an AR / Dev, a DP / Rad Defender, and a BS / Shield Scrap. So more than likely my 50's won't be much use, unless I pull the AR out of mothball-retirement-land in short order.
