I started to say 9999 but I thought to myself, "No, it can't possibly have been THAT low, can it?" It's like a terrible nightmare that I've woken from and can only barely recall in brief flashes.
-
People who think a cap on market prices will work probably don't remember when we had a cap on Influence trades. What was it, 99999? Didn't stop people from doing dozens of trades one after the other until they reached the amount of inf they wanted.
(edit: of course we also have a trading cap now, at 2 billion... which is also worked around in much the same way, but that's harder for the unwashed masses to see, I think) -
Quote:Hmm. I wonder what happens if you level pact two Praetorian characters and when they hit 20 one goes blue and the other goes red. Does it break the pact? Has that question been answered? There IS level pacting now, of course that pretty much means you end up dragging the "unconcious" body around with you all the time, XP-wise (there was a funny PVP Strip about that I think). Of course you can't level-pact Heroes and Villains, so...nevermind, I don't know what I'm talking about :P

Quote:You can also stack two very quickly by hitting a trainer and switching your active build. There are five buff powers at the moment (the five mentioned in this thread). So far as I can tell, each buff has about the same chance to be received, although there's an inside the margin of error chance that Pain Tolerance is slightly less common and Quick Reflexes is slightly more common (but I've only tested 62 draws so far).
Also, there is in fact a sixth buff that is, well, less than beneficial but I have been unable to draw it. I think maybe someone chickened out at the last minute and removed it from the reward table, or its so rare it only comes up 1% of the time or something. I won't spoil the surprise, if the devs are keeping that one close to the vest.
I mentioned this in the bug thread also, but the buffs have a 20 minute in-game lifetime. Meaning, they will last for 20 minutes of actual in-game time. If you log out they will still be there when you log back in. Which creates an exploit opportunity - you can in fact get all five buffs active at the same time (granted: it will take a long time to do it: you have to wait 20 minutes between buffs and if you randomly draw a buff you already have, you will not be able to stack it with itself). -
Quote:First, I think this belong in the suggestion forums.I was thinking today about a possible inf sink that would actually improve the game and not be so me kind of tax. I thought I would run it by the market mavens and pundits before submitting to the suggestion forum. Also it might have already been discussed.
In short, switch from using prestige to influence for base building, and raise the prices on base items. Anything that can currently be bought except for personal items would eligible.
How it would work:
1. Prestige is still earned but at a reduced amount, say to about 25% of current levels.
2. Recalculate rent to be based on square footage and storage to be paid with influence.
3. Keep the transfer rate from Inf to prestige the same. Since there will less prestige available it may be more attractive than before.
4. Base builders can use personal influence or collect influence from team mates to build with. (possibly set aside a percentage of inf. When running in supergroup mode that transfers to a base account)
5. Possibly raise prices on all base items to be bought by inf by adding a 0 to the end.
What I think it would do is allow base builders more freedom in base design because they will be able to afford bigger plots and more rooms and items. There will still be incentives to run in SG mode because teleporters and base upgrades are personal items and must be purchased through prestige.
It might be a small sink, but it would be great for personal base builders and every sink will help.
So tell me what you think, why its good, why its bad, what would make it better.
Second, I think the whole point of prestige is that all members, particularly low level members, are contributing to the SG. This is why higher level toons have to choose between influence and prestige while lower levels do not - if it were all influence, or prestige never cut into inf earning, then high level characters would be far, far more valuable to an SG and thus lower level characters (and therefore, presumably, new players) might have a harder time getting invited to an SG.
I think they should adjust the inf to prestige exchange rate to make prestige cheaper, but maybe only by adding one more zero. If it gets too close to equal, then the point of prestige is defeated. -

Quote:Yep, I have that one on DVD and have seen it many times. Great movie.I figured so when you spoke of 'a thinker's movie' in the OP. Several posters on IMDB have apparently actually gotten lost in the story because they got hooked on details. On that note, I presume you've seen Ronin (the Frankenheimer movie with De Niro and Reno) which uses a smilarly subdued narrative. A lot is implied about the various characters, their motivations and backgrounds, but you really need to look for the clues to get an idea of who they are. Plus, it has some amazing car chases.

Quote:This comment is a slap in the face to all those who have been slapped in the face over many, many years of face slapping.I'd go further and put a moratorium on the whole phrase "slap in the face." It's grown into a meaningless cliche that's tossed around without any thought whatsoever.

Quote:Oh man. I saw this movie a while back. It was good, but in a hard to describe way. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it got a little too sureal at times to the point of bordering on WTFery. The Fountain
Not on instant queue but I love this movie. Not sure if you will because I've shown it to others with mixed results, but it's a thinker, it's surreal, and it is a gorgeous movie in visuals and in the soundtrack. Clint Mansell is a genius composer. It's the director of Pi, Requiem For a Dream, and Sunshine.
I loved Pi and Sunshine, still need to see Requiem. -
Quote:OK, now I want one.If this thing is even marginally like the Destructor, it is not a mouse pad, it is a weapon disguised as a mousepad. I am not kidding, that thing is like a giant, extremely thin axe blade. You could decapitate people with it. It's so dangerous, it has to be packed in a zippered, padded case to keep it from randomly killing people who handle it.

Quote:Good point, but I'm betting that means the total enhancement value will be equal to a DO, so half in Damage, half in Recharge. I think more than that would be considered too powerful for a very low level character.Level 20 common IOs are better than DOs, but these aren't DOs. They're dual aspect enhancements (Damage/Recharge) that are described as being "equivalent" to DOs.
If it's full DO in each aspect? Yeah, then I will absolutely be getting this for both accounts, even though I prepurchased on one of them.
Edit: And while I was typing this, Ocho seems to have proven me wrong - still worded a little bit ambiguously but now sounds like it is full DO in each aspect. But then you lose the proc at 21. Heh. Give and take. -
Wow yeah, I hadn't even thought about using them in Brawl. Might at least be worth trying out, especially on a brute. I tend to auto-brawl them at low levels anyway.

Quote:OK, in that case, I guess I'll let it slide.I hate it, too. It was a special phrase I had tucked away in a molded and stenching chest to be opened and smeared across something I dislike, leaving it in a state of dripping disbelief that I would associate it with something so disingenuous, cynical, and foul.
It has had its single use for which it was hatched into this reality and shall now slink back into a non-existence substantiated only by campfire stories whispered, flashlight in face, into the white dress shirts sitting on decidedly non-untamed wild as part of a corporate team building exercise. -
Quote:I don't think they'll stop working. The pics show them as being level 1 enhancements so I bet they work like an IO, just with DO numbers. Thing is, at level 20, common IO's are better than DO's, so these quickly become obsolete. But not totally worthless. This would make the most sense; enhancements that are nice, a little too good even, but stop working after level 20. Then you pretty much have to go and buy "real" enhancements to replace them.
I think that's how it will work, anyway. It'll be nice for leveling up a new toon, but you'll replace them pretty quickly. -
Quote:For sure, it's not significant for long, but they will be damn handy for leveling up new toons.Even though I don't like this at all, fair being fair the advantage only lasts until level 17. At that point, it's evened out by being just as good as the other SO.

I agree with you and all, but that expression does not need to get used for anything ever.

Quote:Except that the Isolator badge didn't give any actual in game advantage...I hate to be "that guy" but...
... is this something that people who already preordered the game aren't going to get?
See, 'cuz Gothess got me and her matching Going Rogue Pre-orders in order to play Dual Pistols and experience the other treats. And now we're not getting the skins or exclusive enhancements?
So this is how all the people that created characters before the Isolator badge was released felt...
Yeah. I am glad I didn't prepurchase on my second account but now I have to decide if these enhacements are worth the price to get for my primary account as well.
Let's see it's $39.99. I get a month of play time, which is $14.99, so that's $25. Knock off another $6.99 since I won't have to buy the item pack online, so about $18 is what I'm paying that I wouldn't have paid anyway.
Hmm. Gonna be a tough call. I might need to see the numbers (i.e. what's the % chance to proc, what's the damage/kd mag when they do proc). -

Apparently, I have added too much reputation in the last 24 hours because of this thread. You guys rock.

Wow, tons of good stuff waiting for me this morning. Here comes another long post of replies that are too short. Again I won't comment on everything since that would take forever, but thanks for all the suggestions and I am sure I will be checking out a lot of these!
Quote:And I am!I started watching Gamers: Dorkness Rising, and thought it would suck horribly because of the film quality. It actually turned out to be a great little film. Must see for a DnD player.

Quote:Seems that you like Zombie movies, try American Zombie. It's a mockumentary, so not as dry as some documentary's can be. Fictional and engaging with strong character development.
A weird listing if you haven't already seen it. Bubba Ho-Tep. Stars Bruce Campbell as an aging Elvis living his twilight years in a nursing home. Oh yeah, and a mummy wants to eat his soul.
Bubba Ho-Tep is another one that I always meant to see but never got around to.

Anything by Hayao Miyazaki, but Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away are the two most recommended from me.

5: Hardwired. Cuba Gooding Jr. in a cyperpunk-ish world. The special effects reminded me of what a hacker should have been able to do.
Great movie.
