  1. Actually, now I'm wondering if the Going Rogue compete collection will replace the Architect Edition. Sure, its not a measly $20 to start playing with, but it comes with everything you'd want, right? COH, COV, an in-game goodie pack, the expansion, installer disc(s?) for everything and a month of playtime.

It would make sense: helps keep folks on the same page-ish, has something for everyone (current and new), doesn't confuse folks with multiple products on store shelves, and follows in the traditional MMO fashion of consolidating boxes (COH and COV were sold separately until GVE, now the expansion has everything you need too).

I like the "one box to rule them all" idea, myself.

    heehee...

Well, you'll get a preview when issue 17 comes out, but only new content (Going Rogue and on, I guess) will be made with Ultra-mode in mind.

Aion is a beautiful game. Of course, it has the advantage of getting to make a fantastic world instead of trying to recreate a city environment. I don't care how great the graphics engine is - cement can only look so good

$40 minus $15 for the included month brings effective cost down to $25 since you won't have to pay for a month.

Well, if you pre-order from retail, get the code from the store, you can also just cancel it when its time to buy and get your pre-order money back. So they just gave you something for nothing. I've pre-ordered and canceled before myself, and did that with a game for a marketing-beta (ie, that "preorder now and get into beta!" beta). I know I'm not alone in that. I'm sure it ticks of retailers, too.

If you pre-buy the expansion from NCSoft or whoever their partners are, they've got your money. You don't get the other goodies, but you get two major perks way ahead of everyone else. Some folks might well pay just for that.
  6. I'll get the complete package myself. $10 more, but I get a month of playtime (saving $5) and the bonus pack goodies (saving, maybe, $10 if pricing stays the same). That works for me. Paying less for the expansion only has some appeal, but honestly I don't care about getting the powersets early.

I would like to go out and repeat what's on my signature: I would really like to be able to buy this on Stardock's Impulse digital distribution system. I've been using them since they started and have been pretty darn happy with them. The more selection, the better, methinks

Oh, and I'm fine with no extra physical goodies. I've been cleaning house and a lot of the "oh cool!" CE stuff I've collected over the years went bye-bye. I'm trying to keep my life a lot less cluttered. In-game goodies (where I'll enjoy stuff and not have to dust them) are fine by me.
  7. I wouldn't mind seeing Energy Manipulation's "Power Boost" added in there somewhere, but not sure what to take out.

    Quote:
Greatly boosts the secondary effects of your powers. Your powers effects like Heals, Defense Buffs, Endurance Drains, Disorients, Holds, Immobilizes, Knockbacks and more, are all improved. The effects of Power Boost lasts a short while, and only the next couple of attacks will be boosted.
Note: This power improves the strength of your Heals, Endurance drains and gifts, Runspeed powers, Flight powers, Defense buffs and debuffs, and ToHit buffs and debuffs, as well as the duration of your Sleep, Hold, Disorient, Immobilize, Fear, and Confuse status effects. It does not increase the strength of your Knockback effects. That part of the power description is outdated.
I could see this being highly desirable not only with a Blaster MA, but many primaries. Would be quite nice with Dual Pistols, to boot.

I do predict, though, if this set went through, we'd see a flurry of Energy/MA Blasters with some variation of the names "Goku," "Ryu," "Dragon Ball," etc.
  8. I'm curious as to what kind of CPU will be considered the minimum recommended for Ultra mode, seeing as how the GPU is only part of the equation.

Yes it was. But, I'd be able to buy a lot of stuff in Exteel. And if the powers that be ever decide to let us use NCCoins to buy other stuff with it (COH, L2, GW, etc., all sell stuff), that would make me happy. Assuming I could still find NCCoin cards, mind you. Because, well, I'd be able to gift folks stuff super-happy-easy that way.

One last thing: I would love, Love, LOVE, JLOVE it if NCSoft started selling their games on Stardock's Impulse service. They're on Direct2Drive and Steam, which is fantastic, but I'd really like to see them on Impulse too. Games For Windows would be nice too, but I don't think they sell stuff that's not, well, GFW-branded.

Actually, heck, Amazon selling digital downloads would be great too.

  12. Oh, and while not necessary, I fully support the level change with the reasons given. Its quite possible that the flood of sqrub-squids might be an unnecessary fear if the bulk of people getting *EATs unlocked are, well, already veterans themselves.

Not that Veteran status = skill (far from it), mind you.
  13. I sort of remember a comment where the devs, if they added new EATs, wanted to do it in ways *other* than reaching level 50. I'd be curious to see what might come about.
  14. I seem to recall one of the devs commenting the only reason VEATs were unlocked by getting a redside 50 was for parity with HEATs. I get the impression they've been wanting to change it for a while now.

Assuming I'm remembering correctly, of course.

I'll probably get boo-ed for this, but if it waits until i18 or something that's fine with me. I'm really hoping to see some meaty updates after GR launches since the development resources (people, time and money) will be freed up.
  16. Well, hopefully we'll see more stuff that can be enjoyed by everybody. I for one am looking forward to the new end-game prospects since my favorite character to play is one of my 50's, and it would be nice to have even more things to do with him.

(yeah, that's more time not leveling, but as you probably gathered I'd rather play than level)

And given recently it was revealed that WOW trialers seldom get over level 10? 20 isn't quite so bad

Leveling is a choice, if you choose to goof around in pocket d, then hey, more power to you!

But, you could also choose to go level instead and lower the time needed greatly.

meh, its a dumb argument really. I got better things to do.
Might not play as often as you either. Especially since I'm trying to keep my game-time on the weekends. I suppose exemplaring the majority of TF's I've done hasn't helped either. Avoiding PUGs like the plague and soloing at least half the time likely doesn't help my XP gain. On some of my newer characters I've actually turned the difficulty down to boot.

And I'm still not seeing the nerf to the challenge of the game, nor anything really happening than a one-time reward moving location. With the usual exceptions (time strapped folks, altaholics, etc), hitting 50 is an inevitability, not an achievement.

I don't think there's a badge for speed-leveling, though maybe there *should* be one (or just some sort of record you can show off). Maybe include other stats like including how much of your character's career was spent with what difficulty settings (probably missions accomplished versus actual time). Sort of like a levels 1-50 baseball card? Or break it down into 10-level increments (1-10 = rookie, 11-20 = little leagues, 21-30 = minors, 31-40 = majors, 41-50 = whatever)? Something like that.

I'm not a baseball fan, so sorry if I screwed the references up. But you get the idea (I hope). Seriously - I would prefer that (if you go by Bartle) EATs aren't tied to strictly Achiever activities. Give the A's something that really shows, "Hey, I'm really badass" as opposed to something that can really be obtained regardless of skill or skill-lessness, long or short time spent, etc. An *EAT is something that can be enjoyed by S, E, A and K's, after all, but right now getting one (fast) is definitely an A activity (E's will get there eventually ).

Actually, now I'm curious: is there a correlation between someone being pro- or anti- *EATs at 20 and their Bartle score...

    edit: I'm a SEAK if anyone's curious.

    Right here.

All three of my 50's took about 2 years to achieve. Two of them even had the benefit of XP smoothing. One of them even had RestXP in his favor. My Elec/Elec blaster is now 41 and is over two years old.

I'm curious to see the data mining and interpretation of that was on the devs side.
  19. The one guy was right: stills don't do it justice. Neither does Ultra mode pics of old zones. The Praetoria stuff with it that was shown before? Now that was nice!

Oh, I know. But that seems to be the biggest thing for other games and their expansions. Raise the level cap, make all your hard-earned stuff obsolete, etc. All the stuff I don't do because I play COH instead

Do they not like money? What. The. Hell?
  22. Oh, yes, while thinking of pre-buying the game: Please PLEASE get your wonderful games on Stardock's Impulse service. I'm very happy with them and would like to give both them and you guys more money. Them, because, well, they're not Gamestop

Well, they keep raising the level cap and stuff like that too. All the important "carrots" that I'm glad not to participate it

Is it red-name confirmed to be part of Going Rogue and not an upcoming issue update? All I know/seen (and I'll readily admit I miss stuff) indicates Positron is working on it but that's about it. No clue what it is, when its expected to come out, etc.

Always willing to jump in and get his hands dirty, Matt “Positron” Miller has handed over day-to-day management of the Design Team to Melissa “War Witch” Bianco so that he can focus on the critically important End Game system in addition to a few other “top secret” initiatives. We’re certain that Posi has made this selfless hands-on sacrifice not only to ensure that the End Game is the best it can possibly be, but also to make Melissa’s life a living…er… a lovely educational and professional growth experience. So congratulations and good luck to War Witch who now leads the Design team, boldly forging CoH’s path into the future.

And a lot of you caught the reference to the End-Game that I am now working on. WarWitch frees me up to be creative again (yay!) and my strike team and I are designing and implementing an all-new system for your max-level characters to participate in. Rest assured that my focus for end-game is FUN. I won't be able to give out any specific details for a while, but I think you are all going to be very excited with all the future plans for City of Heroes, whether it is Going Rogue or beyond.
I'm not saying it won't be part of GR, but so far as I know its not been said when/where it will show up. If it is, well, you got me. If its not, well, you still sorta got me because not everybody wants an "end game" anyhow

I think the same could be said about Defenders and Controllers, though.

As for a new 50 reward? You've got me there. Actual end-game content seems to be it. That being said, again, 50's still do have the most options in terms of what they can do. To paraphrase the old saying, "a 50 is its own reward."

And of course, a question I haven't seen yet (or missed): what about people who get to 50 and don't like Khelds or SoA's? Not much of a reward for them, is it?
