Hey, I'm just glad the thing is done.
Now I can get back to work on my eleven other video projects.
[/ QUOTE ]
What's scary is I'm starting to feel the same way...not 11 projects, but 1 or 2 more ideas are floating around... -
54 minutes to go, and mine's still compressing too.
-
Heh, finished at 3:26a EST.
Not bad for my first movie ever. (I tell myself...) Though I had to cut a lot just due to time, deadline in 8 hours and I haven't gone to sleep yet...
Now I'm going to go pass out. And hope it compresses on time.
Here's my movie, Do No Harm -
maybe seperate the @ from the name and spike.com, so spam bots can't pick it up...
-
I'm *REALLY* hating the sound of my voice.
But I just may make the deadline. Barring any uploading issues... -
-cries a bit on the inside- Everyone has much more camera cuts/pans than me, giving a more active feeling. To save time, it's a lot of 'put camera here for the next 20 seconds' while people MOV and the voice over will go over it.
-repeats to self, 'Journey, not Destination, Journey, not Destination'- Yeah, I'm intending on a slow paced opening, yeah, that's it...
Demo editing is getting easier now, but still have to voice record and lay everything together. Last hard scene to demoedit is next, the rest after that are long camera shots and simple moving stuff.
Good luck to the rest of you last minute-ers! Will take any extra movie making mojo laying around from you peeps who are done. Pity the newb... -
Panic setting in. Only 25% demoediting done, but each scene is coming easier than the next.
Voice recording done, nil.
Thankfully, the way I'm demoediting I can just record and drop each scene in.
Stopping for the night, settling in for marathon run tomorrow. -
Are the rest of you thinking what I'm thinking?
Instead of chess by mail, chess by demoedit e-mail.
I challenge you, Castle-chu! -
Taking tomorrow off to finish up. Still might last into Saturday though...love hitting the deadline like this.

There is one line in the LGTF that I would love to see really expanded on, because this one line speaks a lot to me. It is spoken by one of the Rikti sent on an ambush after you free either Glacia or Infernia. I don't know the precise words, but it's something along the lines of "Prevent the Omega Terrorists from escaping"
I think about it everytime I run the TF. Glacia and Infernia were not Riktized, so they survived in a hostile environment, still thinking we were at war with them, for years on the Rikti homeworld. They must have fought tooth and nail for every thing (Eatting the bland Rikti food since they didn't have the psychic taste buds, etc).
Omega Terrorists implies so many things, things that if handled by a skilled author and mission designer, would be amazing to play...
How many Rikti orphanages did Glacia and Infernia blow up, for example? Or how many Rikti civilians were taken down by the actions of the Omega Terrorists... -

Number of WeGame avis ripped so far - 3
Number of seconds across these - 30
Number of times Windows Movie Maker has crashed - infinite

I feel your pain. I used to use WMM and the crashes are what led me to buy Video Studio.
My stats:
Demo Recording files: 170
AVI files captured from demorecordings: 143
Minutes of recorded video: 45
HOURS of audio recording: 41.75
Resulting product: 3 minutes 59 seconds and 28 frames

An hour or two later of updating and things seem to work out fine, now. But I'm out of town this weekend, and Monday and Wednesday are taken up. So if I'm to finish, I only have the rest of tonight, Tuesday after work, and Thursday after work. (Friday after work as well if I decide not to travel until Saturday morning)
Tangent:
This thread is starting to remind me a lot of a support group, like what I've seen from NaNoWriMo local groups. Support, advice, tons of self hatred at one's own work while praising and encouraging others. -

I'm wondering if all video makers have as much self doubt as this lot does.

It's a trait I've seen associated among all creative type people. In our minds, we can see every minute detail, and aren't limited by software, rules, or what can actually be done. -
avis made made from WeGame app. I'm running on the 'using free software' ticket for this contest...

What's "WeGame avis"?
And sorry to hear about the crashes. My very limited tech advice is...restart...not super helpful.

Grr....if only I had started screwing around with this long before the deadline... -

BTW: Timing of my entry is at 4:17 now and I'm still tightening fractions of seconds here and there. This is like giving birth! "I can see the head! Push!!!" LOL
[/ QUOTE ]
I...I don't wanna do this anymore.... -
[ QUOTE ]
Well, maybe I do things differently from you guys. I write the script, and then work out the blocking (locations, positions, MOVs, etc.) and any technical issues (animation stuff I've never tried before). Then I record the dialogue, which serves as a timeline to fit my animation into. In this case, I had some time to kill while waiting on my actors, so I pre-scripted some demo files with most of the things I need and I'll tweak the timing later.
Oh, and I'm at 4:19 now. So close...

This is my first time, so it's all new to me! -
We can switch problems. I'm hoping I get to 2 minutes...

Great googly moogly! Y'all are a clever bunch, no question.
And I love the fact that even though we're competing against each other, we're also helping each other out with these sorts of things. I guess that "hero" mentality rubs off on us?
(Still want that Rain of Donuts power...)

-ponders first video after this: music choice "It's Raining Men"- -
Well, I'll lose if I don't get it done and can't enter. If I can leap that hurdle, then I stand a chance...
...but to be serious, I'm more doing this for everything but the prizes. I want there to be more than a few entries, to help get CoH's name out there a bit more, so I'm throwing my hat into the ring.
I've wanted to learn how to do this for a while, and this is also a good excuse to force myself how to do this. I have a hybrid, so the car is of no interest to me (Sorry Toyota), and I barely have enough time to play the few games I do have, so none of the systems hold any excitement for me. If I were to win, they'd all be Child's Play donations, to be honest...
...part of me really hopes I don't win, as I'm sure there are people out there who could use any and all those prizes more than I. My win is just learning how to do this. -

Since at present, so far as I know, the only way to access raw sounds is to PIGG dive (a major no-no), my recommended tactic is if you're going to get attack sounds for individual attacks, ask someone to go into the Arena with you, try to get one that's appropriate for the sound you want (office map, city map, warehouse, ship, whatever), and stand there and attack each other - one attack at a time.
Word of advice, if you let the demo repeat itself, usually the second time around (and all subsequent repeats), the music doesn't actually repeat, so it's just the ambient sound (wind, cars, whatever) and the attack effects.

Ah, by sound I meant my voice over/recorded stuff through my mic. I have no intention to use any of the in game sounds fx at this point, as that is a concept that utterly blows my tiny little mind. -
I've never done a bit of demoediting in my life before, and I have the structure for 2 of my 6 scenes down now. By structure, I have the things spawning and mostly moving where they should. Now comes the fun part of moving the camera around.
(Aside: Had a lot of fun playing with the values in the PYR command, I now want make a video of a scrapper running on the walls to flank a bad guy...)
As I've still got much learning in a trial by fire type of way, and I need to figure out how to a) record these demos b) edit and splice them and c) add sounds, it's still debatable on if I'll even have an entry, even if it'll be an entry the judges look at and ignore for you more talented folk, but hey, it's something. -

What I meant was that it made me realize that overall, I am out of my league. Wasn't trying to mean it as I don't stand a chance against someone specifically.

When Nintendo had a contest a year or so ago, the winner of their video was nice, but the fan favorite was a 'real life' trailer of Punch Out. (Search punch out real life on You-Tube)
The key here is that what fans think and what corporate sponsors think are two different things. Plus, with the diluted pool of movie creators in CoH/V (Compared to behemoths like Nintendo or WoW) you stand even better chances.
As for me, a first time movie creator who is only half heartedly making this more to get off my duff of saying "It'd be cool to make a movie" and actually cobble something together and learn the tools than to win any of the prizes, I look at the big wigs of the CoH movie world and say to myself, "That's really good. My job is to do better than that." If I don't win the grand prize (And I don't really want to, if I'm being honest) but feel I can run with the big girls/boys/robots, I'll make a mark here, HUGE SUCCESS. -
