Experiment looked between Hal and Essex, then to Ginstar and the Toy's. "Ugh... Two seperate plans of action... I hate it when it gets down to that..."
He stood for a moment thinking. "Damn... Okay, okay, I think I have an idea."
He ran across the port to a large computer. He tapped rapidly, showing a virtual island, with a fully visible defense shield.
"Okay... This took about three weeks to make, so don't mock me for the lack of coolness."
A jumpy, glitchy version of everyone appeared on the screen, just outside the field's range, along with the FF generator.
"This is what I have been using to keep my drones slightly out of range of the main shielding. Now, a teleport could work..."
*Taptaptap*
There was a flash as everyone on the screen disappeared...
...And a mass of blood, tech and bone feel from the shield morbidly.
"...Ah... Okay then... Let us try seperating."
*Taptap*
The figures seperated all over the shield in different formations. They entered safely enough with their designated defenses, but blasts originated from an invisible spot not far from the island, meaning turret fire. It took a while, but it eventually knocked everyone out of the air. If not dead, then nearly dead.
"Damnit... Sticking together?"
*Tap*
The seperate defenses that were available to everyone surrounded the group, letting them pass the shield. Blasts started firing at the mass, but their defenses allowing them closer. However, the group suddenly disappeas when nearing the mass of land.
"...Uh... I sorta don't know what is out there, so... Yeah... How about swimming?"
"Knock it off, E." muttered PDA.
"Okay, fine. We should get moving, then. The longer we sit here like this, the more likely it is that we will lose whoever is on that island."
*****************
"Doomsday 2.0?" replied the voice, confused, "How the hell did you know the name of my operation?" -
"That is not a satisfactory answer. Unknown query detected. Please resta-"
The drone convulses in mid-air, before hovering in place once again. However, this time, a human voice spoke. "What the hell is that supposed to mean? Are you attempting something that resembles humor?" came a dark reply, "Because I honestly find it hard to even find a trace of it." -
A small device lowered itself from the roof, closing in on Hal slowly. As it inched closer and closer, 2.0 frowned at it. "PDA, return your shocky-stick to its panel before Hal blows it up."
It, just as slowly, took itself back up into the roof.
2.0 cleared his throat, walking past the group. He exited the armory, motioning for the others to follow. "Fine, Hal. Since you seem to think you can control yourself... You go ahead and defend Essex. You damage ANYTHING in this place, and I swear, I will gladly put you to sleep, and let PDA poke you with the shock-stick 'till we get back from Island Von-Doom or whatever."
Another door that looked just like a wall slid open, revealing what seemed to be a hanger. It had a jet, a boat, a car, a bike, and a few other, uncommon forms of transportation. However, at the end sat an empty path out of the base through a tunnel.
"From what I can tell," 2.0 called to the group, "This SHOULD be facing the island already. All we need is for us to get to the island through the field, and there should be no problems. Villains ain't that hard to beat."
2.0 smirked back at the group. "No offense."
****************
The drone flew out, right at the boat, a whirring sound emitting before a robotic voice. "Explain your reason for entering restricted zone Alpha-Zero. If you do not comply with this command in the next five seconds, this drone will be forced to send a call in for reinforcements." -
Experiment's right arm held a spine again. "Hal, don't make me put you to sleep like I did to the water-fountain back there."
-
Kevin stood, wiping a tear from his eye. "Oh... Hehe... Priceless... But I know how to find her! PDA, scan for any tablecloths in the base, and vaporize it and anything it is cove-"
*TRCH*
A spine was directly through Kevin, from his stomach to his back. He sighed, pulling it out. The hole healed up entirely, as he fell to the ground, snoring.
"Forget that command." muttered Experiment, going back to work... Which finished rather quickly. The FF Generator started hovering around the room slowly, a slightly large force-field emanating from it, covering the entire room, and everyone in it.
"I have ordered it to let your biosignatures inside, as well as mine. It should protect you from most ranged attacks, and a few types of melee." -
"Plus," commented the armoured hero, checking the status of the generator quickly, "You would have a VERY long way to go to even get to the island after getting through the field. I doubt you could use enough power to get through, and get to the island, and THEN not drown."
-
((Oh, no way. Nothing will attack the heroes until A: They pose a threat, or B: The guy decides he doesn't want to see 2.0 alive anymore. ))
2.0 frowned.
"Okay, okay, we're good... We can just, you know, fly in really fast and try and avoid things, right?" -
*Clankclankclank*
The heavy footsteps of some sort of drone made its way through a long row of halls, mostly full of technology, devices, and even more drones. It came to a large blast door, which opened quickly with a loud hiss.
It stepped in, its audio receptors becoming jammed, so as to mess up any recordings, and shutting its visual receptors off.
It quickly hooked itself up to the main computer of the room, showing a video feed of the Paragon City Times in Steel Canyon. Red squares highlighted the arriving heroes and villains.
"Hmm... So, John decided to call in help... He acts as if it can possibly help him." muttered a dark figure. "It matters not. Begin audio feed to MAAD."
The Mark II Alpha Assault Drone prototype suddenly activated, deep inside the facility. The mysterious voice spoke.
"You will prepare for battle. Arm yourself with Seeker Drones, explosives, Drone Dispenser, and Photon Rifle."
The device nodded, its recharging power lines receeding into their respective sockets. It circled the room, picking up the identified devices and weaponry.
"Set two seekers to self-destruct on contact, and sharpen the blades of the other five. Let us see if 2.0 and his 'allies' can anticipate an odd number of those Seekers, shall we?"
Outside the facility, three turrets simultaniously caught movement, closing in on the island. It sent an image to the mastermind inside. "Hmm... Odd... As far as my surveillance shows, 2.0 and his friends have not left the PCT... Who are they?... Drone, commence 'First Contact' protocol."
With that, the same drone that brought back the surveillance left the room, its functions coming back fully, having no recording of its master's visual or auditory existance. It walked forward, jumping swiftly through a jet-space, out of the facility, and jetting toward the incoming boat. -
"Uh... Crap." muttered 2.0, kicking the ground. "I KNEW I had forgotten something... The field is invisible to thermal, and cloaks from normal sight, but other, less common forms of surveillance may be able to notice you..."
Experiment started walking around the FF Generator in a circle, thinking out loud. "The tech is too confusing for me to recalibrate its usages. I can only designate targets to protect. Perhaps if I had maybe, three months... Damn... Okay, okay, there has to be a way around it..."
He turned toward the group after completing his third circle. "Does anyone here have any ideas? My brain still hurts from working all night."
***************
"WHEEEE!!" shouted the replica of John Ballard, still continuously spinning around in the chair. By now, everyone working there knew to stick to the walls, or be hit by the spinning clone.
He managed to reach the edge of the stairs, and was soon careening downward, smashing into walls, and down all of the stairways.
"Wheee-- *Crunch* --Eeee-- *Snap*--- ...Ee? *Splurge*" -
Experiment very nearly snickered, if he hadn't been trying to keep his composure. "Uh... Yeah, the... Heh... The force field should not only keep you from being detected, but also entirely vaporized by the field."
Kevin in the back, however, lost HIS composure entirely. He dropped to the floor, laughing. "HAH! Dude, she is a freakin' TOASTER! Why did you never tell me, E?! HAH! *Snort*!" -
Experiment turned toward Ginstar, frowning. "Let me just ask... Did the doc create you guys with toast on the brain? Just asking..."
However, his serious demeanor returned when the door had finally fully opened. He walked past most of the things on the walls, putting another code into another panel. It opened, showing a glass case, electricity flowing around it in a sort of field. Inside, was a device, seemingly trapped.
"That, my friends, is a force-field generator. For those that do not know, which I assume are few, a force field generator creates a field of energy capable of protecting anyone it is assigned to in a small radius. I have been configuring it to protect the people I assign, and I think I finally got it."
He walked to a console to the right of the case. "I think this is how whoever is on that island gets things in and out of the field. If you are able to take this with you, you may be able to get through undetected."
2.0 peered over to the trolls. "...Which, for some, is most likely a rarity." -
Woo!
I found 2.0's comedy song!
'Sunbeam Lightshow Flower Seed' by Lemon Demon.
Hehe... "Diablo with a strawberry milkshake in hand"... Hehe... -
((Okay then. If nobody has any objections, then the timeline will be before CoT, and after 24HV.))
Experiment nodded toward Hal, and then realized something.
"Oh, duh. I almost forgot." He used his right hand to motion for the others to follow, walking through his lab, going through a small workshop, passing a room with huge generators that gave off energy, and came to two huge, steel doors.
A retinal scanner ejected from the wall, and 2.0 put his eye to it. It scanned, and the doors hissed as they opened automatically.
Even when the doors were about three inches open, the others may notice the many weapons and devices inside.
It was the armory. -
2.0 took a second to react, and stood. "Hmm... He IS rather skilled... Ugh... Well, if it is simple to get a hold of him, you may as well. We may need all the help we can get."
"And, to the assault bot back there, I know VERY little about the Mark II Alpha Assault Drone Prototype other than where some of its devices and weaponry is. Don't worry, if we find it, you can destroy it..." He put his hand up in a "Wait a sec..." way now. "Uh... AFTER, I have taken it apart and found out how it works." -
(( Hmm... Wow, that was smart of me. I never even THOUGHT of the timeline... Pfft, this is most definately one of the ways that 2.0 differs from me. Well... I would have to say the most convenient time for you peoplez... Blargh, me and my lack of foresight... ))
Experiment leaned on his computer tiredly. "Ugh... I really haven't figured out anything solid yet... But I was planning on figuring out who the hell this was first. All I really have to do is fill in the outline that PDA has set." 2.0 muttered, turning to his computer. "However, I also have a slight problem there. Everytime I go outside, either to save people or find out more info about this, I feel like I am being watched, and rarely are my instincts wrong."
2.0 hurried over to his desk again, sifting through the drawers. "I did manage to destroy something that was monitering me, a drone. Some kind of battle drone, that seemed intent on getting whatever he had gotten on his surveillance back to his boss. However, I retrieved the core..." He pulled out an almost entirely destroyed piece of tech. "However, it was armed with a proximity bomb."
He threw the junk away, and picked out a small chip. "I DID managed to get the surveillance out before its destruction, though. So far, all I have figured out are some VERY rough coordinates. I think they are where the drone was ordered to return to after it finished its job."
2.0 pointed at the screen. PDA automatically switched the screen to a live surveillance of a tiny speck.
"That is the coordination. I believe that is where my answers are, but I can't be sure. It is an island, quite far, almost in the middle of nowhere. I sent two drones. This one stayed well over 50 miles away. The one that got within 50 miles... Well, let us just say that I have NEVER seen a force-field able to entirely vaporize something on contact before."
2.0 sat at his desk, resting his head on his hands in an "I am thinking, leave me alone" way.
"Hmm... Maybe the Experi-jet... No... Boat-2.0? No, no... Experi-skis? Hell no..." -
Experiment's face turned grim, as did his voice.
"I am afraid that this is not even the problem. After all, countless organizations have ships like this, as well as threaten Paragon on a daily basis. Hell, usually, I stop things like this alone. However, I recieved a tape along with the picture."
2.0 walked past everyone, doors sliding open as he neared them. He approached his desk, picking up a tape recorder, and hitting play.
[ QUOTE ]
"This message and photograph is to inform you of my presence. Now, I will not be like the fools such as Faultline, Vandal, or even the old Fifth Coloumn leader, now a leader of the Council, Requiem, and reveal my position, my identity, or even have this message trackable. Try, and I will send the device in the photograph toward Paragon City, and destroy you.
"I know, from hacking into your records, that you have contact with the hero Experiment 2.0. Call him in, and make sure he plays this recording. If he does not, I will make sure to make your lives living hells. Make sure that, when he plays the recording, it is the first time he hears it also. No need for him to be special over everyone else except for my vengeance.
"Now, I will send my message to both 2.0 and Paragon City as a whole... Your hero knows me. Or at least, he did. He knew me, and I knew him. Now, however, he has most likely forgotten. It matters not. Let it simply be known that I created the imbecile... Or, not so much an imbecile anymore, eh Experiment?"
[/ QUOTE ]
Experiment put the tape recorder into a drawer on his desk, sighing. "That was from Hero Corps., when I was asked to write a review on this guy. I do not know the man who sent the photo, or the tape, but according to him, he 'created' me. Seeing as how I have blood, organs, and..." Experiment glanced over Essex, remembering how crazy he had become when he had heard of her destruction before, "Emotions. Meaning, he most likely gave me the spines, and according to him, intelligence."
2.0 walked back to his computer briskly, continuing to talk. "That would mean that he was part of the Crey Paragon Protector program as it was beginning its production phase. I could have sworn I killed everyone, but I guess I was wrong..." -
Experiment chuckled. "Pfft, hardly a friend. She is more of an annoyance. But, she managed to pick up an entire outline of the field."
*Tap*
The screen changed, showing the same picture, but a huge, red outline of some kind of ship covered most of the skyline.
"THAT was behind the chameleon camo. Right afterward, the whole sky seemed to move. She took another picture, and it was gone."
"It appeared to have caught the energy my outliner let off when used," spoke the voice, "I don't know how. My technology is some of the most sophisticated available to the heroes of Paragon City."
"Courtesy of me." muttered 2.0, coolly. -
Well, now that I really think about it, 2.0 has two, maybe three themes.
For fighting and having to quickly plan to save the world and such, his song is "Hero" by Nickelback. This is also when he reaches the final villain of anything.
For dramatic times, it is "Savin' Me", also by Nickelback.
For 2.0's entrance into things, like his first appearance in an RP or a story, it would most likely actually be a song that someone on the CoH forums wrote. It is a sort of theme song for CoH, and suits Experiment's entrances perfectly.
Edit: Oh, forgot to note; When I first came to the CoH site about three months before release, I constantly listened to "How You Remind Me" by, you guessed it, Nickelback, so I guess I always think of that song when CoH pops up in conversation. -
Experiment shook his head. "I have not even thought of the camoed thing itself. I was more concerned about what PDA picked up."
"Yeah, and he says he is concerned about my A.I. being messed up when I save him from destroying this base about five times a day." came a female reply through the base's speakers.
"Oh... Right. People, that voice you just heard is my PDA. Or, more accurately, P.D.A. She is--"
"Patricia Diane Alexus." finished the voice, "2.0 comes up with the worst names." -
Experiment scratched his head confusedly. "Dr. West could not figure something out? You are totally joking, right?"
2.0 was still a total fanboy of the doctor, seeing as how his base was more advanced than 2.0's. He could not believe that the doctor needed his help on something technical!
However, when Toy spoke about why he had called them there, he decided to get to the point.
"Just put the package over..." He gazed around, spotting his cubicle in the corner, next to one of his teleporters. "There."
He coughed to clear his throat. "Welcome, friends... Uh, and villains. Sorry about the abrupt message, but I think I am getting closer in my research."
2.0 took two steps back, right onto one of his walls. He grabbed a small handle, pulled on it twice, and bashed it thrice.
It pushed out, then seeming to expand and transform into a computer the size of most houses.
A keyboard shot out, Experiment tapping keys rapidly. A photograph of some kind of robot, different from nearly every other type of A.I. that most people had seen, usually.
He tapped two more keys, circles and lines indicating weapon and device ports.
He turned to the group. "This was sent to me by someone I don't know, who apparently knows me. He said he called it the 'Mark II Alpha Assault Drone Prototype'. So far, I have seen it call down drone reinforcements, and use several weapons and devices."
He turned back around, hitting some more keys. This time, it seemed to show a clear sky over Paragon City's Steel Canyon. In the picture stood the Paragon City Times building, and the edges of a few other skyscrapers.
"Now, this looks completely normal... Right?" He hit another button.
The computer zoomed the picture to a seemingly empty spot in the sky.
"Again, it looks completely clear... Right...?"
However, if people were a little more observant than the usual glance, they may notice an uncommon repeated pattern in the clouds. If someone had seen something like it before, they may notice the very chameleon-like Camoflauge. -
*Experiment 2.0 walks into the commercial*
"Do you wish you could see Essex whenever? (You stalker!) Do you just wanna hold her? (PEDOPHILE!)
"Purchase the Essex plushie today!"
*Is rushed by twenty people at once.*
*Hits a switch to blow up everyone who purchased a plushie.*
Okay, Ess, I got rid of the freaks for you. You can come out now. -
I actually almost said "Murder a father" before I realized that Experiment is one of those goody-goody heroes...
-
((In other words, his accidently made explosives are harmless, while his weaponry kinda hurts.))
-
((Well, in essence, none of 2.0's explosives, unless he uses them in battle, are really deadly. Otherwise, he would have died plenty of times. Think of his explosives, unless it is either a story point or a weapon, as just a lot of pyrotechnics.))
