Falls into the "customized allready" file. MA and SS can pull this off allready to a degree. That and special animations like grapples and ball kicks cant be done due to the wild diversity of character/enemy models

    Polearms would be cool

    Yus

Lava Control ( a mix of fire and earth - not to hard to go this one)

Earth Conrol has a pallette swap for this...even has volcanic gases

Light blasting (kinda like energy, but instead of knockback, you do more -to hit buff, you know with the blinding lights)

Allways cool, lasers (laser GUNS) need a set IMO

Insect or animal control - better for MM, summon wolves, lions and a giant bear for third tier, or swarms of insects

Cool, but the animals would need entirley new skeletons, which the Devs have complained about before

Heavy artillery - like AR, but a bit heavier on the hits or something

Sandvich. Dunno how to call this one. On the one hand it'd be cool...but on the other it's essentially just teh BS to AR's Katana..

    Sonic Melee and Sonic Armor

No idea how yelling makes you punch harder or take a hit better..

Chameleon Armor - a mix like WP and defense based set with some mimic NPC costume power allowing you to walk into enemy groups (lot of defense since they aren't sure if they should attack you or not) or you could mimic the stone walls or grassy fields.

When I first read this I immediatley said "no" in my head as this is what stealth in our game immitates to a degree. Then i realized you may have meant actually morphing into these things ala mystique & friends.

Ex: Outdoor map, become a grass character with some plant control. Mimick an NPC and gain some abilities, in a warehouse become made of steel, etc..

Teleport melee - allows you to have ranged punch, put hand in disc or something and fist appears and punches enemy from distance

Belongs just in the TP Pool, doesnt warrant an entire set when it can just be a teleport attack in the pool power

Water blast, water control and water armor - yes, it still needs to be done, the demand is high

Yus, if they get it to look right finally

Chain or Whip melee - already there with the MM pretty much

    Yus

    New travel powers - Wallcrawling

Cool, but horribly limited. What good does this do you in like...the hollows or such?

Choices when traveling - flight allows flying or jet pack animation or rocket boots animation, etc... Teleport could be entering a disc and stepping out the other side.
SS - running, or riding motorcycle, car, etc...

    So, what's left?

ok, so far a huge consensus has been Stff/Polearms for (all?) the melee ATs

another thing that's caught my eye is time control as a control / buff/debuff set...

perhaps incredibly powerful but incredibly end-heavy set?

hmm, how about as a community we decide on like, 1 new set per power "style" (control, range, melee, etc) to propose to the devs for consideration?

even though the big lists like Tannim made are cool, if everyone does that this thread'd become pretty cluttered XD

    So, what's left?

hmm, how would the luck/precognition powers work exactly?

from the source material (only example I can think of atm is Jynx from teen titans), the "bad luck" is very envirnment and situation based, where as in CoH we only have 9 powers to convery a huge range of things that could be considered "bad luck"

    So, what's left?

Cool idea with metal control, but why not have it more metal + magnetism, where there are no damage holds which "metalize" foes, then you can mess with em with the other half of the powerset which is magnetics?

    just a thought

and I thought of a whole explosives/espionage kinda set a while back...never posted it tho.

Proliferation more than brand new set...

I'd also like to see some pet customization for Masterminds. We have pretty good pets in terms of powers but they don't fit every character concept as well. Mercs might need a small buff.

Power customization, and argued to death thingy...

I'd like to see some more "emanation points" for many of the blast powers. Especially for things like Fire and Ice, I'd like to see a backpack with a gun attached via a hose or cable so it looks like you are shooting your powers from a gun or device rather than your hands.

This is on it's way (soon (TM) ), but not sure about the weapons thing

Also, Brutes with Bicycle Repair with be even more strong and pretty.

    Agreed

Pointess nitpicking in red, but thanks for the input

as for Psylenz, i think those powers have existed since the game's creation.. and the difference is that instead of those two power instances, each and every (blast) power would need to be mapped for each and every (staff/gun/bicycle option) with then a variety of animations depending on the power.

So while it seems simple, it's alot more work as the vet powers are their own entities..
  7. Player99

    So, what's left?

Bicycle repair is simply too godly to work on the game's engine methinks

But anywho, staff/wand/cane stuff may come when the Devs figure out how to anchor the "cast" points to weapons, which may be very soon(TM) with the news of being able to shoot blasts out of other places than your hands with i19.

As for a melee staff set, what'd it's niche (outside of being bad-***) be? Extra range in return for...meh?

    EDIT:

perhaps we should tally the things we're missing based on type of set:

    Melee: Staff/Polearm

    Blast/Ranged:

    Control:

    Armor:

    Buff/Debuff:

    Minion:

    Other:

    oh, right...

    *nostalgia*

The new guy will have to take that role
  9. Player99

    So, what's left?

So, as of today we have about....

766 different power combinations across the 10 ATs (not counting EATs as they are locked into their sets and are kinda excused from this discussion).

We have everything from swords and shields, to sci-fi type energy blasts, to good old fashioned fist-to-face powers to choose from to make our characters, and with the advent of Power Customization (and soon the ability to choose where your powers shoot from), alot of potential has been lost and gained when it comes to our powerset roster.

What I mean by this is that while a group of players may have wanted to emulate the powers of Lanturn Verde long before Power Customization was possible, even writing mock powersets for something like it, nowadays the theme is quite simply done by most any controller with a Verde colored Force Field as a secondary, or Defender with FF/Energy(or Rad, Etc).

So now when coming up with new powerset ideas, we must think of what it could allready fall into. Want Karp melee? Unfotunatley it'd more likely be a new weapon for WM or BA (depending on the orientation). Wanna use the force of some mystical power to hit foes hard in close combat? Kinetic melee says hi, also can be colored purple for psionics. Etc, etc, etc.

But enough of that negativity, lets look at what this thread is for:

Outside of things that'd be covered by re-coloring existing set combos, a new weapon for an existing set, or simply be the same thing as an existing set with slight alteration to the "theme", what powers are we lacking?

(also, dont start on "Water" because Babs will have another heart-attack thinking of how to get it to look right)
  10. Ive made this thread before, the absolute two best builds were an ill/rad(or /storm) controller and a Bots/Traps MM....

    true that

I really need to find Umbrals' Fire/elec build for max DPS, Im sure it's the most potent Raw-DPS built attainable <.<
  14. Im pretty sure a fire/elec (epic doesnt really matter) blaster does the most Single-target (sustained) DPS.... it was over 310.

Coming in second is a fire/fire dom methinks.....

but that's just raw DPS, and assuming they survive long enough to do it.

as for "effective" DPS providing buffs/debuffs/etc, I ~think~ it's either rad/son def or ill/rad troller....?

it's not about traps, it's about time bomb, which universally blows.

The power just so happens to also be in that set, so why should devices have a TB overhaul, and leave traps with the same old version?

The issue is that it is another nail in /dev's coffin as that pretty much confirms ANOTHER reason why you dont need to have /dev to get stealth on a blaster...

    if that makes sense
  19. @claws:

Im glad you found a build for /dev that works for you

I am not trying to force an opinion on anybody, but merely pointing out that compared to other blaster secondaries, and as a set, devices is pretty flawed

aside from a SPECIFIC build like you mentioned, what reason is there to pick a set that is not only slower all-around, but withing that it is also underperforming/out-shined by Ios you can get to stack on other secondaries?
  20. yeah, CD gives much more than stealth!

more end drain and a wasted slot that could have been so much more useful, when you could have slapped an IO in combat jumping for the same effect + movement

So with 4 powers from the secondary, this would allow a lot of choices from the primary or lots of power pool choices which is the only real positive factor I find in /dev builds. The builds are not tight at all. I might pick Gun Drone becuase it is neat, and a pet to take aggro and alphas has it's uses.
ok, you DONT see this as a major problem that only 4/9 powers are worth taking, with 1 of those being a forced power?
  22. so yeah, +range is out unless it'd be ridiculous, and then it would be..... ridiculous

anyways, lets take a different look here:

what primaries work best/worst with the current devices?

with the suggested changes, what would change about the pairings?
  23. Seriously techbot, that power does nowhere near the damage to compensate for how long it goes off.

2 trip mines, something EASILY acheivable to set up, bo more base damage than it.

Hell, AR's string of AoEs will clear the mob out just fine...

each of those two usually dont use Build-Up either, and take 1/9001th the time

    the power sucks
  24. Two things:

    1) shameless plug about my Devices discussion in the blaster-forums here.

    2) I think there is a HUGE problem when there is a power that requires you to wait 24 seconds for an explosion that does less damage than 2 trip mines at once....
