Chihaya and ZeRO both pointed to Sae.
"It's up to her, she's the boss," Chihaya indicated.
Sae stepped forward between Chihaya and the Trio, "We could use all the help we can get, but I'm warning you. This is no walk in the park, these demons can and will kill you or turn you over to their side. No alliances, no negotiations. We're fighting someone who wants to erradicate all mortal beings. Worse, he's watching us right now."
The other members of her team looked at Sae increduously.
"How do you know he's watching us?" Ryuji asked her, "We're in another..."
Sae pointed up. Everyone gasped. There was a massive black eye in the sky, and the demons didn't seem to notice it...until they moved close to the group.
"I noticed that when I activated my Heavenly Garment," Sae said, "Being close to me lets you see it too."
Zan noticed that he had been discovered.
No matter, he had wanted to play with them anyway.
He opened the pupil of the eye, and out poured a collection of shadow, pure darkness. It hit the ground and split into hundreds of small, dog sized beings.
(OOC: For reference, they look kind of like a cross between the guys from ICO and the little Heartless from Kingdom Hearts)
The demons and other beings couldn't perceive these shadow-beings, and broke into a panic when several of them shattered, releasing more shadow energy. Occasionally, a ball or several balls of light would spring out of one and fly into the eye.
Each member of the team felt a tug...a spiritual tug...on their souls.
(OOC: Yes, he's EATING the Side.)
Ryuji tried attacking one of the shadows, but it only dissipated and reformed. Chihaya had better luck, converting the shadows with her spiritual power into rock.
(OOC: Normal weapons don't work) -
At hearing Pherelith's explanation, Zero's gatling gun folded back into her arm.
"Yes, we're from Tokyo," Chihaya explained, moving closer to Rosalind, "I'm Chihaya, the walking armory there is ZeRO, the magical girl is Ukyo-taichou, and the guy in the coat is Ryuji!"
Ryuji grunted at the idea of just being 'the guy in the coat'. -
(OOC: Vanquish the thugs any way you choose, once all eight are gone I'll post teams)
-
The arena opened, the combatants entered, and the gang members took their positions.
The arena was a simple dirt area with a grate in the middle.
(OOC: Have fun)
-
(OOC: I was replying to Burning_Brawler's comment actually...)
-
(OOC: Well, as I said, lethal to one person isn't lethal to another. If you put a guy into the arena made out of solid rock, he'd definately have a higher threshold than an average person. The equalizer is that he wouldn't be able to hit as hard.)

(OOC: Alright, time for the first battle. Since I'll be the first GM, here are the rules for this round:
1) It's a two-on-two battle, that means each of the four current masters picks a single fighter. In the event someone doesn't post which character they'll be using within the next 24 hrs, I will allow the first person to post after I call time an additional character. Now, as 24 hrs is quite a long time, and we want to warm up the crowd, the first actual battle will be a preliminary fight against a group of eight thugs. It's a scripted battle, like pro wrestling, so no one can just walk in and kill all eight of them. The objective is to rile up the crowd.
2) There's a temperature limiter this time around. The temperature cannot exceed the max setting on a commercial oven, and cannot go below the instant freezing point. Basically you can encase someone in a block of ice, but you can't drop the temperature below that. If anyone's body temperature drops below freezing or goes above their pre-set temperature threshold, they'll be teleported to safety instantly. Safety being the hospital. Naturally, people like Burning Brawler have a higher threshold to heat than others, and people like Ryuji have a lower cold threshold (mostly because he can manipulate ice in this instance though)
Long story short: lethal force is a nono
EDIT: Since we have a fifth now, it'll be 3 vs. 3. Next person to post gets another character
EDIT #2: I just remembered i'm not participating in this round, ignore that -
(OOC:Nice characters, though I kinda like downplaying the resemblance to in-game archetypes. It's a little restricting...)

ZeRO did not flinch.
"Funny, I thought sufficient weaponry WAS the authority around here, at least that was what I was lead to believe," she said.
"ZeRO..." Chihaya said, worried.
"Unless I receive orders to the contrary, I will press this point: Identify Yourselves. From the being called Allen, we received advice to be on our guard here at all times. As my programming identifies him as a 'leader' based on the reactions of those around him and my own human judgement, I am bound to obey his 'advice' as an order. Since we have never seen you before, and the mage, who has proven to be a reliable gauge of enemy threat levels, is terrified of you, my judgement remains. Your refusal to even give your identity unless the need arises is moot. The need has arisen, and if you still refuse, I am prepared to protect my superior and peers from you." -
ZeRO (OOC: Yes the lowercase e is intentional. I finally found an acronym that would be appropriate: Zeus Ra Odin.) pointed a gatling gun at the trio.
"Identify yourselves," she announced.
(OOC: Off to comic-con, be back in 12-13 hrs) -
"Dead Trio?" Sae asked, remotely curious.
Seeing the mage actually look AFRAID, she knew using her power would be necessary.
"Heavenly Garment," she said, waving her hand over the broach on her chest. Her entire body glowed, and she was once again wearing the strange magical girl-like garment she had been wearing before.
(OOC: I wanted to have a little transformation scene but then I realized that'd be stupid. And for the record she's more of a shounen-esque magical girl than a sailor moon-esque magical girl. Meaning explosions, and big swordsYou've prolly figured that out already tho)
-
(OOC: I was talking about another actual player...Soviet's going to be gone for a week, DeviousMe is dropping out, and Shinji_Hinomu is caught up with playing Chromehounds...apparently. But I guess it could work, I'm working most of this weekend tho. Comic-Con and all that)
-
Asuka was a tad...suspicious of the new arrival, but sat down anyway.
Naturally, she'd be ready to move at a moment's notice -
(OOC: ;_; we need another person, then!)
-
"They smashed the Akihabara base like a bug...I don't think we have time to dilly dally," Ryuji added.
"I hope you know what you're doing, Allen," Sae said. -
"Now, uh, why exactly do we need a counter-illusionist?" Sae asked.
-
"Chibi jaNAIYO!" Chihaya squealed, whacking him again. Chihaya was very sensitive about her height.
-
Chihaya stuck her tongue out at Toshio and bonked him on the head with her staff
-
(OOC: Well, take into account Chihaya's a blabbermouth)
-
(OOC: I'll explain it in OOC but have Chihaya explain it in character. There's certain...details I can't have one member of the team divulge at this time. Basically we decided to attack one of the portals with Chiyoko, the one who had predicted the Tokyo invasion and told the SDF, which prevented a massive slaughter and allowed for the shields to be erected. The attack was on the Ginza portal, the least protected of the portals throughout Tokyo. Inside, they found the portal's guardian, a giant gorilla-demon. After defeating the gorilla demon, they encountered the portal's anchor, a giant orb guarded by an illusionist. When the illusionist and orb were destroyed, Chiyoko manipulated the energies and created a portal to her world. It turned out Chiyoko is/was/will be the Eyes of the One, a being that exists in all dimensions at once. She can 'see' basically everything that isn't expressly hiding from her, and to hide from her you have to be equal or greater than her in power. She explained that Zanael stripped her of her powers and she was made mortal. All in an attempt to buy time to hide from her. He hid in such a way that it would consume Earth time searching for him, so his invasion could progress while the Eyes sought him. Afterwards we decided to follow Allen to the Side, a place roughly equivalant to the spirit world. All the while Zan has been watching from wherever/whenever he is.)
-
"Ah that's right! Mr. Mecha-chan wasn't in the portal with us!" Chihaya chirped.
(OOC: Do you want a synopsis of what happened in the portal or would you rather have a 'fade to black explanation'?) -
"...Or we could just work on closing the portals in Tokyo, if we close enough of them, we'll probably draw him out," Ryuji said.
-
"In Japan, Shinto actually gives us the belief that everything can be holy or sacred. Similar to the Native Americans. I think we were attacked because of the strong conflict present in such a small area," Chihaya began explaining, "See, the average Japanese person recognizes and follows MANY different religious beliefs and holidays. We remember our dead like the buddhists, pray for good luck at Shinto shrines, and celebrate Christmas, even though the true meaning of the holiday is lost on most of us. The fact that the two most popular religions on Earth are recognized and given space to worship, in addition to a preexisting religion, may have created an instability. That, combined with our nation's excedingly high population density, created a rift that doesn't normally exist, sort of a spiritual fissure. As far as I know, Zan's demons don't follow any one religious belief. We have Oni fighting alongside what appear to be hellhounds, for instance. Not to mention Zan may also have been trying to invade Earth and kill Chiyoko at the exact same time, and since she happened to be in Tokyo..."
"Or maybe he just wanted to attack a place that had the highest population density and isolationistic tendencies. Which would be why he didn't attack New York, Beijing, Mexico City, or New Delhi. Japan is one of very few countries who are not permitted to have a standing army," Ryuji said.
"Or maybe it's just some combination of all those things," Sae added, "He's probably using Tokyo to set an example, and make his conquest easier. After all, he made it pretty clear to us that those unbelievably powerful demons were only mid-level." -
(OOC: Still waiting for DeviousMe to react before I can move on...since he's basically leading the way here)
-
Hoo boy where to begin...
Well, Sae's backstory is in the Battle for Tokyo and Rikti War Stories threads.
So that leaves:
El Guapo Grande
Bright Star (Tara)
Sacred East Wind (Asuka)
Leo
Nicholas Sarder and Doctor Vladamir (Two characters that MAY be showing up in AH101 on a field trip)
Hyoumura Ryuji
Blessed West Wind (Shiomi)
Igarashii Sousuke
Tenryuu Reishi
Sakura/Miyu
I'll let you guys decide which one I write first...since they're all pretty complicated. Especially El Guapo Grande.
