  1. I don't think it is fair that everyone is bashing this researcher simply because there was a news article posted about what he was doing. No one knows exactly what, when, how, and why he was doing any of this... What everyone is reading is just a small news article outlining that someone was doing research within a video game that was written by someone else, not the researcher himself, and therefore doesn't contain all the information that he may have been researching - Who knows, maybe he has already gone into other games and this news article just happened to focus on his small experience on City of Heroes?
  2. I don't think its the fact that he received negative responses that shocked him, it was more what the responses contained - for example the death threats.

Although his method may be considered "cheap" or "unfair" by other players, the fact remains that the ability to do what he was doing remains in the game because the lawmakers (read: developers) deem it fair and a valid method of playing the game. Just because there is some "unwritten law" created by the player base, he has no obligation to follow it and is free to play the game how he wishes so long as it is within the guidelines set forth by the devs.

I can imagine people becoming frustrated having their characters teleported in front of an unbeatable robot, but there are ways to deal with it: Stay away from the guy with teleport foe!

I find it funny, in almost any video game that contains online play, people will always find some something "cheap" about one way or another of defeating someone, yet 99% of the time that method will remain in said game. Typical examples include sniping, camping, bunny hopping, in one game I played the rocket launcher itself was frowned upon and called a "noob cannon" only because every other gun required some sort of effort in aiming while the rocket launcher didn't. In every single one of these situations the only reason people complain is because they are normally defeated by the person using these tactics.
  3. Hey all,

I've been playing the game for almost three months now, most of which I have played as a Dual Blades/Super Reflexes stalker, along with another person who was a Plant/Thorn dominator. We've managed to get to level 39, playing at level 5 difficulty after level 22 (Yay SOs) but sadly, we've hit a brick wall and we are incapable of taking on most AVs by ourselves. I know slotting sets can assist with this, however I would like to think that the game was designed in a fasion that allows two people to duo some tough foes without the need for set IOs.

Recently, I have decided to try and level up a brute since out of all the ATs available to the game, I have not had the chance to play a tanking-type role. My friend has already created his character, being a Sonic/Rad corruptor.

What I would like to do is create a Brute to compliment his choice, one that can really dish out damage to single targets, since we are primarly going to be duo'ing.

As for primaries, I would like to avoid mace, battle axe and dual blades, as they do lethal damage and I've played enough characters that do that sort of damage. I was thinking more along the lines of energy melee, however I am asking for opinions here.

For a secondary, I am really stuck here. I've been told Will Power is the way to go, however, I don't know how effective WP will be with only two of us most of the time. Again I am completely open to suggestions here.

Please help me out, I can work on a concept after I have decided what kind of character to actually go with. Again keep in mind, this will mostly be for duo play, with maybe one or two others who join us on off times. If someone has any recommendations on a different duo setup, being different ATs or otherwise, please post them as well!
  4. I am currently leveling an Electric/Pain corruptor, (MedBot-395 on Virtue) and I have put my focus more on healing my team rather than dealing damage.

In my experience, although I am only 21 so far, my teams would have wiped several times over if my focus wasn't mostly on my heals and getting the ones that fall up quickly. This is with other corruptors and masterminds in the group as well who do ocassionally toss heals and such as well with their own respective secondaries.

I do have 4 attacks, 3 of them which I use fairly regularly - Lightning Bolt which gets put on auto, Ball Lightning, and Zapp, each used when appropriate. I also have Short Circut, however I don't like to use this very often as I have to jump in the middle of a crowd which usually ends up in me getting pummelled.

What makes Pain different from the other secondaries is that you have the ability to make a team mate go from almost 0 HP to full relatively quickly, whereas the other secondaries only have a single heal or no heal at all, helping mitigate the damage through other means. There will be times where your allies defenses or resistances are just not enough or the percentages are not in their favour and thats where a /Pain can help out.

One final bump... Meeting is in 50 minutes.

Actually.. Its supposed to be happening now...
  6. Anyone else attempt to do a traceroute on 216.107.240.153? It appears to be one of the playNC servers (Probably Virtue as that is what I'm connecting to)....

    I get stuck here:

    16 8 ms 10 ms 9 ms ve5.fr4.yyz.llnw.net [69.28.171.142]
    17 11 ms 11 ms 9 ms ve5.fr3.yyz.llnw.net [69.28.171.141]
    18 9 ms 9 ms 9 ms ve5.fr4.yyz.llnw.net [69.28.171.142]
    19 21 ms 11 ms 13 ms ve5.fr3.yyz.llnw.net [69.28.171.141]
    20 18 ms 10 ms 15 ms ve5.fr4.yyz.llnw.net [69.28.171.142]
    21 8 ms 18 ms 11 ms ve5.fr3.yyz.llnw.net [69.28.171.141]

Seems like someone changed something they weren't supposed to on one of the backbone networks.
  7. East coaster kicked from Virtue - I was able to reconnect to Virtue and get back on a character for about 5 minutes, got on another map serve and then once again booted.

Cecile and Capucine are now one bubble into 15. We'll stop levelling the characters and we are awaiting further instructions :P

    To Black_Marrow,

Yes I know the characters have natural origin.. I'm just trying to figure out how my "natural" human character being an Assault Rifle/Pain corruptor has the ability to heal, raise and such without it being some kind of devices... It also gives me a basis for more RP and helps me build my character further.

Just wondering - Apart from those being mutants, are the rest of us trying to RP our powers as either technological through some sort of devices or equipment? With that also in mind, are you restricting any particular pool powers?

    Edit:

Just wanted to throw in a status update... Capucine and Cecile are now level 13.

    Cecile Rousseau: AR/Pain Corr
    Capucine Gaudet: Mercs/Traps MM

We're both level 9 (we're actually level pacted), so if any of you want to add us, I'm @Gasmaster and he's @Shaosyant. It'd be nice to have others get up to level 15 with as well....

The early levels redside seem so slow, especailly when you don't AE farm.

Hey, I'm just wondering if there are any spots left and if so, which?
    ----
    Edit:

Pre-emptively, I have started on a concept for a character others may like... A french woman named Cécile Rousseau. She was blinded in her youth, however with her psychic abilities, she is still able to see through the minds of others.

I was thinking that your missing Rifle Corrupter would be a somewhat funny/ironic fit for her... Still waiting for your response!
  12. I have read over the initial guide, but this thread is much too long for me to go over to add a small suggestion.

When performing improv, which is similar to RPing, most professionals would tell you that you should never flat out say "No" or disagree about something unless you are able to lead what is happening somewhere else fairly quickly and without it seeming odd.

Tonight while hanging out in Pocket D, there were two people "powerposing" trying to be tough guys. It got silly because they were both "using powers on one another" yet neither would be "affected by the other". This is obviously an Ego thing, similar to "My character is the best", but if you can suck it up and let your character be knocked down once and a while, you could find yourself in a different situation rather than just going back and forth where it leads nowhere.

Take for example the show "Who's line is it anyway?", they almost always go along with whoever is leading, and it works out perfectly and almost seamlessly.

I am fairly new to RPing in a game, although I have taken drama in the past and I decided to try this method and so far it has worked out pretty well.
