There have been plenty of them in the market forum. A little searching should find them easily.

And once a year or thereabouts, you hope that people like me, people like Westley, have gone away and you can lie in public and get away with it. Several FF experts have gone away- BurningChick comes to mind- but some of us are still here. You make "mistakes" that couldn't possibly be mistakes.
I was wondering why this whole thread seemed familiar. It's essentially just a rehash of this thread from four months ago where Ultimo goes on a rant about his poorly built Defender not being able to solo as well as a Scrapper, and then ignores everyone trying to offer advice. I seem to recall that thread being filled with the same type of exaggeration and misrepresentation of how various powers function from Ultimo as well.

Ultimo, just because another person tells you that you are wrong, does not make it a "rant". Further, I would suggest that if you often find yourself in situations where a vast majority of people are telling you that you're wrong, that you may, in fact, actually BE wrong.

It's always worked on AV's since I've been using it. However, it does not have enough mag to overcome the resistances of +3 and above AV's. Detention Field will not affect them in its normal configuration. The trick to getting around that limitation is to slot it with Endoplasm HO's which will increase the magnitude of Detention Field, not the duration.

Detention Field is an amazingly useful power. Granted, it is very situational, but for those situations, it is great. I use it often on Mary during Katie TF's. It allows the team to defeat her spawn quickly with no interference. It can also be used to neutralize one of the towers on the final STF mission to make things a little easier on whoever is tanking Lord Recluse, as well as dealing with any pesky adds while defeating the patrons. Black Scorpion decides to stick his nose in while everyone is beating down Ghost Widow? HA! Detention Field for you!

For some reason, I get the impression (right or wrong) from your posts here, that you don't team a whole lot on your Defenders. You certainly only seem to look at them through the lens of a solo player, and really seem to miss the point of their ability to act as a force multiplier for teams.

Grant Cover sure looks like it is enhanceable to me. I just checked in-game and my enhancement screen shows Grant Cover as 15.50% (13.84%) resistance to defense on target, with one level 25 LotG +recharge slotted in it.

I think this is the key here to avoid faceplanting due to defense failure. My FM/SD is only lvl 45 right now, and I'm in the midst of running through Tina's Praetorian arc. I'm running the arc at 0/x6 and even though my defense goes into the red with all the defense debuffs from Antimatter's little robots, they're dead so fast, it doesn't make much difference. If I took more than a few seconds to kill them though, things went downhill fast. Interestingly enough, I found that I took less damage by herding them up with AAO rather than letting them stay spread out.

Also, just checked, and running Battle Agility, Active Defense (no membrane HO's) and Grant Cover with nothing but a LotG +rech in it, I'm at 52% debuff resistance.
  9. This certainly seems to be a weakness for Shield Defense. I don't have membrane HO's slotted on my FM/SD yet, but I do run Grant Cover and can go from soft-capped to negative defense in a matter of seconds against certain groups.

Quick backstory before I get started.

I just purchased the game about 10 days ago, rolled a few classes to figure out what I wanted to play. Ended up rolling an Emp/energy(Yay for useless energy) Defender. As soon as I logged on I get ninja invited to a sewers group, so I roll with it. Being the healer for a group of level 2's fighting against level 5's was interesting. Later on I ended up doing the Positron TF at 3am, constantly asking can we sleep yet? Nearing the last few quests it ended up being a 3 man TF , but none the less at least I had to actually pay attention.

Upon hitting 32 I started getting no whisper invites to PI runs. At first I was skeptical, but I learned to not question it soon enough. Possibly the least interesting aspect of this game is when you near 50. As an emp I hardly bothered to heal 50's that would run around mowing down 54's. I found that my job is just to spam RA's when they're up and figure out who's the best dps and keep AR up on him. You really do notice a lack of challenge endgame, it seems that most enemy npc's really don't know what to do when they can't hit a tank or can't get out of controllers cc.

Which brings me to my question. Does anyone else feel like the difficulty of the game drops off, due to an inability to incorporate powerful skills such as Thunderstrike, Chain induction, and Lightning rod creatively so that they're necessary and not just a harder hitting skill?

So far it looks like the only worth wild pve fight is Hamidon. Even that I heard was nerfed.
Sounds to me like you pretty much farmed your way up to 50, running a lolhealer, and leeching xp. No wonder you see a lack of challenge...

I think you missed this part of my post:

That means just using search and broadcast. No globals. No friends.

But beyond that, I can't see how you can equate forming and joining teams using server global channels as equivalent to being 'offline' as far as other players are concerned. Any player can join one of their server's global channels. I make it a point to tell as many players about global channels as possible, whether they are new players or vets. It's one of the best way to have ready access to teaming opportunities.

What is there to shoot down on a topic that's been beaten to death over and over and over again on these forums since the day I registered here? Sure, I could type out a lengthy and informative post addressing each of the OP's points in a logical and orderly fashion, as others have already done, and others will continue to do. And like most of the other threads like this, the OP will likely ignore all of that, because they've already made up their mind on the topic, while calling those who disagree flamers, trolls, and punks. Oh wait.. That's already happened.

And just as I expected, the OP is not interested in any actual debate or discussion of their topic:

I also notice many of the servers ( Guardian for instance ) are nearly dead ( Almost empty ) and the most populated servers don't seem to have that many people on them in the great scheme of things.

Recently I had read that CoH released their subscriber numbers for 2009 and it rounded nearly 130,000 people ( Not quite reaching 130,000 - Something more like in the 128's or something, I think. ) and I notice quite a lot of talk.. Well, everywhere.. From CoH players, haters and lovers alike.. Frankly I'm worried for the game..

It'd be nice if NCSoft staff could answer this, but I don't hold my breath for that.. My question is.. How much is actually riding on the release of Going Rogue being successful? If it's unsuccessful, is that it? Are we looking at dealing with another Dungeon Runner or Tabula Rasa? I hope the game will be okay, but.. At the moment from looking at subscription numbers, discussion and the facts.. It looks kind of grim.

QFT. I can't imagine trying 50 different names and finding them all taken. I think the worst streak of taken names I've ever run into was maybe 4 or 5 before I was able to come up with something original.

Use a thesaurus & dictionary. Play with foreign languages. Heck, try wikipedia. Think outside the box.

Spines I would pick because it has some range to it some minus fly in impale and good AOE.
Recharge debuffs are murder on Dark Armor. Dark Regen is the lynchpin of DA survivability. Not having that heal up when you need it generally results in a pretty rapid faceplant. The only times I ever went down on my DA tank were after being hit by heavy -recharge.

I disagree. I am nearly always on hide, yet regularly join or form teams on my server's global channels, as well as form random PUG teams. Just because someone is on hide does not automatically make them into an anti-social misfit that only wants to solo.

What does not having Hasten hurt the most? AV battles?
Fire melee has the advantage of being able to run good attack chains without a lot of recharge. Hasten is very optional on fire melee, in my opinion. As an example, you can run Incinerate-GFS-Cremate-FS with only about 45% global recharge if you slot correctly.

There is plenty of population and activity on Protector, especially when it comes to TF's. Are you using any of the global channels, such as Protector Watch or Jello Shooters?

No. On a scrapper or brute it is a fixed 3.75% defense that cannot be enhanced. On a tank it is 5%.
  24. Did you have patrol XP banked? If so, debt comes immediately out of that.
