Quote:This. Although DiCaprio not being ripped apart by sharks or minced by the propeller was a disappointment.Swooning girls can do magic for movies, as they generally have more power over their SO's entertainment choice than vice versa. The only good part of Titanic was when DiCaprio sank beneath the waves. I put that movie on the same mental shelf as Dirty Dancing and the Twilight movies.
If you want to see a good, and far more accurate, movie about the Titanic, watch A Night to Remember. -

Quote:Yes. Patrons. That's the thing. They had no intention of doing it without Patron Power pools, so if custom sharks where to suddenly appear in game files (that we wouldn't dream of looking at), then that would be a dead giveaway, wouldn't it?Yes it was. Nearly every epic power is a direct draw from an existing power from an existing powerset. Most of those powers already have not just custom effects, but also custom animations. Patron pools don't have custom options, sometimes, but even when we get customization options, we may not get customization for those for the same reason Kheldians didn't get any.
Quote:Additionally, doing a from-scratch redesign of a system and not accounting for future development is the height of poor planning. -
Quote:Or, they could have just not messed up the design of Hybrid, and had it increase the damage of tankers to the same degree that incarnate abilites boost the survivability of other ATs.I don't want to mess with AT mods because those are the base upon which everything else is calculated, and Brute base stats really aren't that offensive. What makes Brutes into Tankers and concerns actual Tankers is their full potential to reach Tanker level survivability by virtue of having Tanker caps for a lot of stuff. Messing with caps alters maximal performance and crimps what an AT has the potential to do without really impacting mid-range builds that aren't pushing against those caps.
I'm sure this sounds like a nerf, but I'm also sure Brutes weren't intended to play like Tankers with a lot more damage, so it sounds reasonable. -
People like to claim to be the first. It usually just means "not the same as the one everyone knows about". I'm sure the developers just prefer not to be to open about where they steel ideas from. But they play everything that comes out as part of their job. Rift stole "Controllers" for example.
But the reason more MMOs don't have serious control is simple: PvP.
Players hate being unable to act in PvP.
But NCSoft, there is no befit to them in promoting CoH with GW2, because if someone starts playing CoH then they are less likely to play GW2. NCSoft have never been averse to shutting down CoH if they have something else in it's place; it only exists now because Auto Assault and Tabula Rasa flopped. -
Quote:UI work was budgeted, but the art wasn't done then. Freedom was a last ditch bid for survival, so there wasn't much point in putting too much work into something that was several issues down the road.I'm not sure I understand you. Can you say the exact same thing a third time? Maybe then it'll sink in.
They reworked the entire costume creator UI for freedom. This should have been done then, when work on the UI WAS budgeted.
Now the art is done, it's just waiting on the time allocation to set up the interface, then it can go into testing. -
Quote:This is only partially true, since Marvel comics as a major cultural influence has, up to now, been pretty much limited to the US. In the UK, up till now, "The Avengers" was a guy with a Bowler Hat and Umbrella, and "Iron Man" was an environmental fable by Ted Hughes. The characters which have been iconic in the US for a long time have only just now become icons in the UK.I don't think that's a fair comparison because the Avengers is not the beginning of something like the original Star Wars trilogy was. The Avengers is the culmination of something, more comparable to the prequel movies than the original series.
In terms of pop culture influence and creative impact, it would be more proper to compare Lucas and Star Wars with Stan Lee (plus Kirby and Ditko) and 60s Marvel Comics. To say that the Avengers lacks new and unique signatures compared to its components is like saying The Clone Wars just recycles light sabers and droids. The Avengers have been around for 49 years, the Hulk for 50 years. Captain America has been around for 71 years and he just featured in the biggest movie in the world not directed by James Cameron. I'm sure Star Wars will still be around in three decades but if Han Solo features in the biggest blockbuster of 2048, then Star Wars will be able to lay claim to the pop culture longevity represented by (but not exclusively comprised of) the Avengers.
As for timing, I think it's exactly right for the Avengers, with people looking for escapism and hope in difficult times, and a reminder of the good things about America.
And this is why I think the new Batman film will struggle - not because it's a bad film, but because people don't want depressing movies at this time. -
You may be thinking of Storm Shamaness, lt rank mob. I don't really remember them throwing anything at me apart from Water Spout (looking just as rubbish as ever) but maybe the just didn't live long enough.

There is no "problem" with the UI. There is a "problem" with allocating the time to make the modifications. It really doesn't matter if it would only take 10 minutes, if the project manager says "no time for UI work this issue" then there is NO UI work.

What you don't grasp is at that age they don't think in terms of "my generation" and "your generation". Generally, they haven't reached that empathic level.

Quote:I'd say there was some truth in that. DC is saddled by characters who date from the 30's and 40's, and as such are paragons. Batman is pretty much the only character who doesn't feel seriously dated. So, you're saying that DC characters are harder to write for for writers who have trouble grasping characters that lack boring human motivations some or all of the time?
Of course DC has newer characters, but they simply aint got the recognition - you might as well invent a completely new superhero and make a movie about them. -
Quote:Not much contact with 8 year olds I take it?Oh I'm sure these young whipper-snappers think they got something wonderful on their hands. But I'd still sooner tell the Avengers to get off my lawn than to give them the satisfaction of declaring them the next Star Wars.
They don't "declare" it anything. They are too young to be competitive in that way. To them, Star Wars is a program on the Cartoon Network, and a type of lego. -
Quote:It also suggested an additional reason why more conservative individuals might not want him as head of a major public school...I'm going to have to disagree with you about Dumbledore. I heard the bit from Rawlings that Dumbledore was gay before I read the last two books, and keeping that in mind made a few things look different. Mostly, his relationship with the wizard he eventually took Death's wand from, and the events that lead to Dumbledore getting the wand from him. It made me realize that there could be a LOT more to that story that has yet to be told.

Quote:We didn't need to wait 30 years to know that Star Wars had a massive effect. I knew the instant I saw my mother gobsmacked. And, as part of the generation Star Wars generation, it will always have a massive influence on me.For the record I also had the unique privilege of being able to see (and remember) every Star Wars movie on its original opening day in the theater. One of the few advantages of being old I guess.
Again I'll grant you that the Avengers movies are very good and once it's all said and done they'll probably be able to say that as a complete franchise it made billions of dollars. Still not going to declare it on par with Star Wars, sorry.
Let's give Avengers another 30+ years when we're arguing about Loki ragdolling Hulk in the latest director's cut before we grant it that status shall we?
But the current generation of pre-teens are going to think of the Avengers in the same way we think of Star Wars. You can tell by watching their reactions. -
Quote:Yes. Well, some of it, between the vomiting.I...you...what? Since when is it even debatable that Titanic was a good movie? Did you...even see it?
Quote:at LEAST preface something like this with "In my opinion". I realize thats probably understood anyways, but good lord. -
Quote:When they tried it, I think it was something like level 29, 27 and 25.One of the problems mentioned was that retrofitting these slots caused problems in terms of what powers they could and couldn't be put on. I'm not saying putting them in at level 50 won't cause problems, but what I AM saying is level 50 slots can be placed on every power you own that can be slotted.
The level wasn't the issue. The problem was it broke just about everything...
Something to do with the way powers where stored in the database. Kedians had form powers disaprearing or automagically changing into other powers, lions lying with lambs, and other apocalptic stuff. -
You can't beet a movie that has David Niven, Peter Sellers and Woody Allen...
...what? -
It's not "difficult" to put in the modifications to the interface that would allow pool customisation. It does however require time, which has to be allocated and budgeted for. It therefore can't happen until the project managers say it can happen.
Which is likely pretty soon now... -
It's not considered a "benefit". Castle said when balancing powers knockback was considered "neutral", neither as + or a -.

Quote:As someone who was 9 in 1977, and who teaches several 8-10 years olds now, I'm ideally placed to observe the similarities. And the initial success of Star Wars was not initially due to the pseudo-religious elements. Most of that came with the later movies. See, for example, the very first EU novels, The Han Solo adventures, have no jedi or mysticism in them at all.Avengers was a very good movie, and I have no doubt we'll probably get many new spinoffs/sequels from it for years to come. But I think time will have to tell if it becomes a "cultural phenomena" the likes of Star Wars.
Star Wars became as big as it did because it effectively established a new sci-fi based religion. I understand some people will probably quibble over my equating Star Wars to a religion, but if you compare how other real religions got their start you'll see quite a few parallels between the two, especially if you consider how many people were genuinely affected and consider Star Wars to be "life-altering" for them even today. Heck, last I heard Jediism was literally an officially recognized religion in Australia.
Will Avengers spawn a pseudo-religious experience for millions of people like Star Wars has? Somehow I doubt it in the long run. But I will agree that as far as mega-popular franchises go it'll certainly be one of the biggest for the foreseeable future.
Now, the effect will probably be greater in the UK, where superhero comics have previously been more of a minority interest. Perhaps more like: "You sunk my Beano!" -
Quote:Sorry, but Avengers stands up on it's own, to consider it only as a Superhero movie is a major oversight. It's current cultural impact (in the UK) is approaching that of Star Wars in 1977.fixed that for ya..
Saying best movie of all time is hog wash.. it was a great fun movie that lived up to the hype.. but there have been MANY great movies in the last 75 years to say this is better than Godfather, Titanic, Scarface, or any number of movies is pushing it.
And as for Titanic, that's not even a good movie. It's tripe of the highest order that was simply lucky enough to be popular (similar to a certain MMO I can think of). -
Quote:They get Kinetic Melee though, which is basically "fixed" Energy Melee.So.... i'm going to make a melee character and saddly, scrappers still don't have Stone Melee or Energy Melee.
You can make Spines into flints or crystals in power customisation.
Quote:However, there's 3 new sets and stalkers got changed.
I'm hesitating between:
em/something stalker. The secondary would be one with no or almost no fx.
Whilst staff is a great set, it is valued more for it's AoE, survivability, and utility, not for hitting the top of the single target damage charts. -
Quote:Battleship was never a serious threat...When you consider that there are other big blockbusters coming up in the next few weeks this opening weekend for Battleship was likely going to be its only serious chance in the theaters. Hopefully this'll put an end to the "Michel Bay-esque" type movie for the foreseeable future - we can only hope...
