There are multiple, really. One is things apparently established in the two (not very good) AvP (Alien vs Predator) movies (and indirectly, things from the Predator movies themselves). Then there are things from the (rather better) AvP comics series.

The origin of the crossover was in Predator2, where an alien head was briefly seen in the trophy room.

The trouble is, most of your suggested changers would also benefit Corruptors and Dominators, and hence do little to level the playing field.

Blasters have garbage secondaries (and APPs). There is no escaping that. "Manipulation"? WT* is that supposed to mean?! Shows the devs had no idea what they where trying to do in the first place.

Eh, yes, when FIRST designed, doms melee attacks where significantly more powerful than their ranged. But since they got their ranged attacks buffed, it's quite possible to play a 100% ranged dom. I guess you missed the memo...

With just one Active defense your at around 66% defense debuff resist on Shield.
    I stand corrected.

You should probably edit that first line to read "excluding epic ATs and Dominators". Or maybe simplify it to read "excluding five other ATs, Blasters are the only AT that can have a good ranged attack chain and a good melee chain at the same time."

And here is something you don't seem to have noticed: you don't need a melee attack to attack a target in melee range, a ranged attack will do just as well.

They do talk some bison faeces too:

"NASA and the Vatican agree that [it is] almost mathematically impossible that we can be where we are today without there being a little help along the way...
As a former astrophysicist who has worked with NASA people, I think most would be of this opinion:

The idea of pansperma was developed by Fred Hoyle and others who believed 1) in a steady state universe, and 2) that it was statistically incredibly unlikely for life to occur spontaneously. These ideas are linked, since in an infinitely old universe, the incredibly unlikely accident of life would only have to occur once, then spread. Time isn't an issue, because you have an infinite amount of it.

There are very few scientists who believe in a steady state universe now. In addition, we also think the chance of life occurring is much higher, under the right conditions (such as those found on a planet but not in space). The probability of something like a virus being able to survive the radiation of space long enough for a significant space journey is also low.

Thus, whist life could have originated in outer space, Occam's Razor suggests that we should prefer the simpler explanation - it occurred spontaneously on Earth.

So, whilst most NASA scientists would consider it virtually impossible for life NOT to exist on other planets, they would also consider it highly unlikely that life was connected to life on Earth.

There is also some direct observational evidence: all living molecules on Earth have the same "handedness". If pan-sperma was correct, you would expect this handedness to be the same through-out the universe. However, organic molecules is space are observed in almost equal numbers of left and right handedness, suggesting their origin is chemical and not biological.

I suppose we can blame Scott's advancing years for clinging to ideas that where popular in the 1960s but have since been largely discredited.

As for the Vatican, I don't think they would endorse this interpretation for the origin of life on Earth...

Probably because most of those classes can do as much or more damage as blasters do (and can do it at range in the case of SoAs)...

Correct. It used to be the case that blaster melee attacks where just as good as ranged attacks (both had damage scale 1.0), but some time ago blaster ranged attack modifier was buffed, so now blaster ranged attacks are always better DPS. Which is what I have been saying: blaster melee attacks are pointless.

(where melee attacks appear to good damage, it is because they have longer recharge times).

    ^^This.

I like the writing of Pratchett and and strongly dislike the writing of Dickens, but I'm not going to go round stating that one is clearly a much better writer than the other and anyone who disagrees with me is ignorant.

On the whole, I prefer Whedon's work, because I prefer a touch of humour to leaven the bleakness of existence.

The why is fairly irrelevant, since the film directly contradicts the existing Predator lore (which had already answered the why in an incompatible way), and had them cast in the role that the Prometheans are in in this movie. It also sort of mucks up the timeline for the AvP movies, which has the Aliens much older than Prometheus suggests, although the use of a different chest-burster gives some wriggle-room.
  15. Since Rhodes is a serving officer in the USAF, his armour really should display USAF insignia. However, I think this is taking it a bit far.

As I pointed out elsewhere, this outfit is predominantly blue, wheras the Iron Patriot armour from the comics is predominantly red.

    DA/Staff is an awesome combo.

Note that Staff and Titan Weapons (and claws etc) cannot be used with a Shield.

I don't really have much experience of the other weapon sets, but I think War Mace had the most recent balance pass.
  17. You just have to look at the real world. The US army has been working on Iron Man inspired powered armor for years, but it's still not been deployed (so far as we know...)

The arc reactor is only really required if you want enough power to fly and shoot energy beams. And it's already been spelled out the problem with arc reactor technology - it's too expensive. All that palladium it burns through is probably a major reason why. Tony's new element makes it more economic, if he is prepared to share.

Oh, and Joss Whedon isn't a great writer. He is merely a decent one in the sea of mediocrity that is the American TV and film industry. Monty Python? That's real talent!

And in the realm of writing...that's a matter of personal taste. Maybe you prefer a good old fashioned tale of Good Vs. Evil that's alot of fun to watch.
This statement suggests you aren't familiar with, or don't understand, Whedon's other work.

He is known for morally complex characters, not simple good vs evil.

He is also known for playing with audience expectations, not predictability.

(This is Whedon's mistake - he treats his audience like intelligent people, when clearly, most of them aren't)

You are falling into a common trap, of confusing seriousness for quality.

I think you need to make two ATs: A Claws/Electric Brute, and a Shield/Axe tanker. The latter so you can get a sense of being awesomely mighty at low levels, rather than having to wait.

  25. I'm not convinced you need to start with an "origin story" movie at all. Tim Burton's Batman just had bits of origin filled in as flashbacks. I think you could do something similar for GL or WW. Start with the character as is, fill in backstory in flashbacks (which then only have key points).
