  1. Seriously. I'm happy crafting and selling. BUT...

I decided I wanted to make a little money on another server that I never play on. My highest character there is level 14 and is not rich. I'm in no position to buy a 10-pack of a favorite recipe, salvage, craft and sell.. I need to raise a little capital first. So what's easier than buying some popular salvage for a low price and selling high?

This worked well the first night and I put in a lot more bids for stuff, including some recipes.

Tonight I logged in. While I paused to read something on the forums, I purchased two Titanium Shards for 5,000 influence each. Apparently the price hadn't reached my buy price in the last 24 hours until just before I logged on.

I saw that some had sold recently for 500,000. I put up one stack for 80,000 a piece. I immediately sold one for 500,000 and not three seconds later bought two more for 5,000 influence.

Hello? Reason? Are you out there?

I also had put up bids for a certain level 30 damage set IO for 100 influence each. I'd picked up 6 of them so far for that price. I saw that some had sold for 500,000 and some for 1,000,000 in the last 5, so I decided to price them at 510,000 influence.

All six sold instantly! For almost 8 million all told, mind you.

It can't always be that easy, can it?

(Well ok, a lot of my bids didn't fill... I've only made 15 million after starting with maybe 50,000 earlier this week... but damn.)

Without going into detail about how many of my characters are male or female, I can sum up my entire MMOG experience of the last 10 years with a simple anecdote:

I played EQ for 3 years on the Test Server with a very close guild called The Grove. When other games started coming out, a bunch of us moved to Dark Age of Camelot for a few months.

I created a male troll as my main character. I didn't like how the female trolls looked.

One of my friends asked me, "Why did you pick a male character?"

Keep in mind that everyone in my guild knew I was male IRL. Others in the guild had switched genders when they switched characters before, but apparently it felt "weird" to him for me to play a male character...

    Buzzsaw Build

I know this isn't the right forum for this question, but my only buzzsaw build was for my DM/EA brute... does it even make sense to have a buzzsaw build on a brute anymore? One of the advantages was building fury with a lot of quick attacks, as I recall.

I've been meaning to rework my brute someday, knowing that my whole buzzsaw approach is sooo last year would be a nice start. ^_^
  4. I'm no expert, but let's see...

I built my own regen scrapper for defense first and foremost... it's not really the best way to build a regen scrapper, Santorican is smart by building for recharge first then defense... but anyway, I tried very hard to squeeze out as much positional defense as I could manage, just to see what I could accomplish. I was less cautious about cost.

First, unless I'm mistaken your 12% psionic defense is pointless. It's not a lot anyway, but my understanding is that your positional defenses will trump that, so there's no point int building for it. So, for example, I don't have Scirrocco's Dervish 6-slotted, since 5 slots gets me the AoE defense that I want, and I can use the other slot somewhere else.

Second... am I reading right that you only have 5% global recharge? That's going to make the experts cry. ^_^ Even my build manages 20% recharge, and let me tell you from experience, it really isn't enough.

I can understand wanting to stuff the three heal uniques into Health, but six slotted health? I can't imagine that's the best way to do things.

For my own build, I five-slotted Dull Pain and Integration with Miracles for the AoE defense. I six-slotted Reconstruction with Numina's for the Ranged defense. Yeah, that means my unique is in reconstruction... bleah. I could have put that in Integration I suppose since it'a a toggle, but that would mean Reconstruction has less recharge... and I'm already fairly starved for recharge.

What you're doing is even more difficult than what I did... because at least I was katana so I could lean on Divine Avalanche for a lot of melee defense, and just concentrate on AoE or Ranged.

You should fit a Steadfast Protection +3% defense into your build, for certain. Those are really not so expensive these days, you can find a recipe for 1-3 million.

I'm not fond of 4-slotting with Kinetic Combat, since it gives so little accuracy. When I use it I like to pair it with 2 pieces of Pounding Slugfest for more accuracy, recharge, and a nice 8% regen bonus.

I'm not very fond of 6-slotting Weave with Red Fortune and 6-slotting Tough with Titanium Coating. I can see that you're going for 2.5% ranged and 2.5% melee defense there, but I just think there are better ways to get there. You're a regen scrapper, you should be putting more slots into your attacks and heals. ^_^

I'm also not fond of using so many slots in Punch. I realize you're just muling there, but it's a lot of slots to get that 2.5% melee defense, and if you've gone that far you might as well add the 6th slot for the 2.5% AoE as well.

If you had Hover instead of Air Superiority, you'd have 3 slots for another set of Zephyr. It adds a bit of defense when used in combat too. I realize that's totally a stylistic choice, but you asked for ways to squeeze in more defense.

But again, I'm no expert. ^_^ The experts will tell you to concentrate on recharge first.
  5. One of my favorite movies of all time. ^_^

    Have fun storming the castle!
  6. Fact that I didn't know until just five minutes ago: you can only post on these boards once every 30 seconds.

Ancillary fact: you can only make 7820 posts in a given day, maximum.
  7. Fact: I'm fairly certain that today being August 18th has some bearing, however minimal, on everyone.
  8. Fact: Vampire Doll Guilt-na-zan volume 6 isn't out until Sept. 29.

Fact: Tetragrammaton Labyrinth volume 6 isn't out until Sept. 1.

Fact: Battle Angel Alita: Last Order, volume 12 isn't out until October 13.

    Fact: It's only August 18.
  9. Fact: No, it's only been a few minutes. ~_^
  10. My advice is to jump on homework right away so that you don't fall behind, and keep at it. My father has a Mechanical Engineering degree, my mother has a Nursing degree, my sisters have degrees in Accounting and in Occupational Therapy. I managed a 2 year community college degree but I never finished my 4 year English Major... and I came pretty close. I wasn't a bad student but I was often distracted and could have used my time better. I might still not have used that degree (what's an English Major good for anyway?) but I wish I'd finished it.

And make some good friends in college! That's the one thing I managed to do there. ^_^

Ditto. For generic IOs it can be quite profitable to craft & sell at mid levels, but for set IOs, the supply and demand at level 50 (or wherever the IO set caps out at) is far greater than at any lower level. Occasionally I roll recipes on someone who's not 50 yet, and the level 48 or whatever they wind up being IOs can take a while to sell, and may not sell for as much money.

    Inf Making FAQ?

Many of the gold roll reciepes are uniques, like Luck of the Gambler +7.5% recharge time (which is a global recharge, it affects all of your powers). However, some uniques are more unique than others. ^_^ The one I just mentioned is in very high demand, others are ones virtually nobody wants. At least, the number of people that want that recipe is far less than the number of recipes available.

The bronze rolls are usually uncommon (yellow) recipes. I think most of the silver rolls are rare (orange) recipes, just not the special ones you can only get on a gold roll.

Hope that helps. Purple recipes can not be rolled for, btw.

Generic or common IOs are a great way to outfit your character. Many of us will outfit with level 30 or 35 generic IOs until the character hits or at least nears 50, and then you can think about whether you want to invest in more expensive set IOs. For some of my characters, I never bother going beyond the generic IOs.

    3 Word Story

During one day at the height of summer, six glittering starships appeared out of nowhere. Suddenly everything went dark. It was the curse of the evil monkey that eats cotton candy!

The people all fled in terror at the sight of the sticky-fingered monkey. It hurled large chunks of cotton candy at the innocent Omegatron Zeta Warbot, "Koo Koo Katchoo", who, caught unprepared, pulled up his iron underpants, and ran screaming into a brick wall.

Then the monkey laughed and said, "where's my punchline?" A man named Alfredo von Wigglestein appeared and said, "I think, therefore... I don't care. Now, you need to go to talk to the guy about registering for the special buns and thigh class. After all penguins have anurisms and I wear polyester thongs to school. Where was my jar of Honey Bees? Who will not drag my fat butt? Now what was the price of eggplants and bees again? I forget things quite quickly since I'm old. Although old is relative."

So then my sister Bruce bought a banana from a passing street vendor. He grabbed a dictionary and started to read aloud the definition for monkey curses. He then looked at the crumpled warbot, pointed and said, "Beware! Chaos is brewing beer!"

Then the warbot stood and drank beer.
