  1. SInce I know VEATs got screwed on custom powers and cool stuff like Talsorian Claws, etc., I was just wondering if you could still access Incarnate Armor with them, etc.- I've heard very little in regards to this.

Also- have we gotten any update from the devs on when or if they plan on addressing some of the frustrating customization option problems for VEATS?
  2. It's sad, but the lack of customization options is what made me shelve my Melee Fort/Night Widow.

It's pretty ridiculous that they haven't addressed the obvious player distaste and constant complaints over the lack of customization for VEATS. It's not to the point where it's getting ridiculous, and they just need to get a fix out there soon.

The fact that a Widow can't have Talsorian claws yet is just stupid, really, and just tells me the Devs have a fundamental misconception or misunderstanding that it's 'Okay' one of the strongest features in their game (visual customization of weapons/powers) is the only thing lacking that would keep many folks playing their VEATS as their main, and in the game longer.

I've stopped counting the endless stream of players who roll and level VEATS, only to find out the customization options are lackluster, and choose to roll something else.

Maybe I was misintepreted a bit- No, I know what they CAN do- Ive been on some all Defender/Troller teams and have rolled along very well. But what Im saying is- and Dechs example of a team full of Blasters doing a Mo____- is that is not viable for the restrictions placed on this task force- time limit, levels, etc.- you need some tricks up your sleeve to get the job done if you're not bringing one. (I probably should have made it a MoITF requirement too to be cruel. ; P)

Im not doubting if they COULD or could not do it- 3 quick Corr/Fender debuffs on incoming masses of enemies typically ensures everyone is safe- just saying it's not optimal nor feasible on this TF with +4 AV's, EB's and Bosses constantly streaming at you in tight quarters. The reliability factor- as Dechs pointed out- is the key there. You dont have time for deaths, and a tank or melee toon that can hold aggro and take ALL alphas guarantees a decently coordinated team no deaths.

A guy like Dechs or an intelligent Brute or Tank ensures the mission succeeds and no wild variables or weird accidents happen with aggro management. But even so- I dont care if it's a team full of VEATS- My /Shield melee toon has over 60% Melee defense (well beyond the cap)easily with a slotted manuevers buff, but if Lord Recluse gets through with of his attacks and a couple of good ticks he's toast, and really isnt a good aggro tool for that fight, so I leave him at home. Now ol Rom is a bit different than LR- but you get my point. If it was a MoITF, most smart teams that wanted to ensure they didnt want to waste their time would definitely bring along a melee toon.

Ive been a part of several MoTF teams already filled out by pretty intelligent, multi-year vets that have failed on numerous occassions because they thought they had an optimal, uber setup.
  4. Wonderful responses so far! This thread is really becoming juicy in many ways, because you are seeing what people like to play along with, and what they know is the most effective team members theyve grouped with on the ITF and other Task Forces. I think most of you are playing along great and coming up with some awesome teams. Before I post mine, I just want to post some feedback on the (very helpful) Dech's comments:

I tell you truly, nothing in this game compares to all defender/corruptor teams. If you're going to handicap me with melee, then fine, I'll bring a pair of scrappers or brutes with my tank. They can watch as the defenders and corruptors do most of the work.

I knew that people would not choose melee if it was a totally optimized team- that's why I included the ruleset. However, regardless of players wanting to stick 8 Defenders/Corruptors on a team, on the ITF when you have +4 bosses, EB's and AV's, I seriously am doubting it can be done - not only in that timeframe, but also feasibly. With constant ambushes of multiple mob groups plus bosses and EB's mixed in, someone either needs to be capable of taking the alpha, or taking the aggro. When you have 1 AV that defenders can all throw debuffs on right from the get go you may be able to exist without a tank/brute (and even then, a +4 Romulus would still likely hurt a bit too much with all the other things considered).

But when you have incoming ambushes of groups with +4 EBs and bosses flying at you, unless you have 2-3 doms or controllers on your team with hard control to keep the incoming waves manageable, youre going to have deaths- and the point is to not have any deaths to do it optimally and meet the time deadline! Even debuffs like /Rad have a lag time before they are anchored in and effecting the incoming groups. Could your defenders rotate their high teir holds? Yes, I suppose, but I still think you have several deaths- even with good, competent players.

Its my opinion that if you want an optimal team on ANY TF, you at least need 1 really good Brute/Tank/Scrapper that knows what theyre doing and has a great build to mix in good AOE and single target damage! If not for anything else but to take the alpha from incoming bosses and EBs or at least draw their initial attention untilt he massive dose of debuffs rain down upon them! Thats just my opinion though! Please continue though, Im licking my chops putting my squad together!
  5. Ok so Im bored tonight, cant access the game, and figured Id have some forum fun with some of the knowledgeable vets (and non vets as well) to see what kind of fun and intelligent team combos some folks would hand pick if given the choice.

For the sake of this argument Im putting several basic rules in place so everyone doesnt come in this thread and put Fire/rad controller for every team slot and lol. So here we go with the hypothetical:

A troubled, angry, and very disgruntled former-CoH Dev breaks into your home and puts a stolen rikti pulse rifle to your temple, and tells you that your well-being depends on you putting together a team to run the ITF successfully without short cuts (no map stealthing to objects, and natural progression through maps) in under 45 minutes on the hardest +4/8 settings.

The consequence if you dont? Hes going to force you to spend a week in the final room of the old, pre-patched respec trial waiting for enemies that never come, and staring at reactor room walls until you puke!

So, while you know you could probably do it easily with certain power and AT combinations, this psychopath isnt going to let you off easy- theres some rules in play bucko, or else you're tossed into the never-ending reactor room purgatory!

    Your team must have:

-3 out of the 8 AT's must be Tanks, Brutes, or Scrappers (Any combination is allowed, and you can have more- but 3 is minimum)
-Your team must have at least 1 Defender
-You cannot have ANY duplicate AT-Power Combo's (That means no 4 Fire/Kins or Fire/Rads x4)

    1. (You)
    2.
    3.
    4.
    5.
    6.
    7.
    8.

So who do you pick to fill out your team, and which AT do you choose to play? Are there any players you know you would take along for the ride because they are plain sick with their main AT?

Remember- you have many, many +4 mobs running at you with bosses and elite bosses mixed in- so you have some very high hit point enemies you'll need to eliminate with speed, precision, and accuracy. Dying is not an option- it will slow you down too much!

You will need TONS of AOE, but also speedy single target damage to quickly fly through the bosses, dwarfs, EB's, and AV's you will see along the way, and MASSIVE debuffs and buffs to boot! So you basically need everything, and need it from skilled players to ensure you come in under (or well under!) the time limit! Remember- you cant mess around with silly combo's or else your doomed with a week in respec limbo hell!

After you show your squad Id love to know why you picked the combinations you picked! Lets have some fun, and I will post mine here in a bit!

Ok..I see the boon of recovery auras, and the two AOE's of Psy Scream and Psy Tornado, but other than that, whats the catch? Wouldn't it take you forever to even start hurting +4's.
  7. Whats your recommended primary? Fire?

My only concern about Dark Armor as a secondary is not much damage support. Death Shroud is a nice tick, don't get me wrong, but I feel like killing 54's could be faster.

But..considering you werent using a 3rd AOE or BU (from what I could see) in your video, I could be a bit off-base in that line of thinking.

I was actually thinking of /Dark Armor. I've seen my scrapper friend on justice do some amazing things with it, and I'd be putting it on a Brute.
  8. My SS/Shield/Fire Farming Tank is completely purped out, 'More-than-Capped' positional defenses, high S/L resist, double-rage, etc.- and I'm severely dissapointed by his survival performance on maps where I am fighting +2 Bosses or +3 Groups & Bosses.

I figured a tank should be able to handle +4's really, but then again- I run the toughest ambush farms there are, and I guess when you have 3 groups of enemies +3-4 Bosses running in at you and are at max aggro cap, enough boss hits get through to eventually put me down. Plus, being a tank, I kill a lot slower than a Brute would with respectable Fury.

So....I'm now searching for a new project AT that can fit the following criteria:

-Can take out +4x8 w/Bosses groups in a respetable amount of time
-Can walk into a variety of mission maps that ar not catered to one specific type of damage and still mow though +4 groups without face-planting often.
-Has a respectable single-target chain of attacks as well as great AOE's
-Can be managed with healthy endurance levels
    -Is not a Fire/Kin Troller

Any suggestions? I believe in the end I'll need a Brute of Dominator for this excercise, but if you think differently please speak up!
  9. Claws/EA is Cheaper for sure for the enhancements I already have.

Claws/SR is nice, but expensive as hell due to all the LOTG sets.

We all know what /SR can do. I can get about 50/48/42 with the build I have in mids in terms of positional defenses.

On the Electric Armor build, I have the Energize heal at a 30 second recharge, and my resistances look like this:

    S/l = 58
    Fire/Cold = 46
    Energy = 75 capped
    Neg = 33
    Psi = 26

I guess my main question is, can they accomplish the same thing in TF's, VS AV's, etc.? Or does the Elec Scrap, being resistance based, get wailed on by Lord Recluse and other Av's pretty badly?
  10. We're talking AOE killing here, over the span of an entire large mission - lets say the Lib Farm - against Lvl 53-54 Minions and LT's.

    The Fire/Thorn Dom?

(Key Notes: Perma Dom, The Global Dmg Buff @ 37.5%, The AOE Dmg & Resist Debuff Procs, High Pet Resistance -because exploding Hulks suck)

Attack Chain: Soul Drain + Aim + Fling Thorns + Thorn Burst + Dark Obliteration

Click this DataLink to open the build!

    Or the SS/Shield Brute?

(Key Notes: +35% Global DMG Buff before Rage, Rage + Against All Odds + Fury)

Attack Chain: Shield Charge + Foot Stomp + Ball Lightning + Fences + Foot Stomp

Click this DataLink to open the build!

Fire/TA Dom Pros: Perma-Dom, Damage is constant with no lapse, Proc Heavy Build, Cages + Soul Drain + Aim + 3 AOE's + Hot Feet = Nasty

Fire/TA Dom Cons: Survivability against 53 and 54's when the holds wear off, Soul Drain not up every group, Have to carry greens for exploding mobs

SS/Shield Brute Pros: Rage + Against All Odds + Fury + Global DMG Bonus = Insane, Survivability even against +4's

SS/Shield Brute Cons: Shield Charge not up every group, Routine Rage Crashes, lack of a good 3rd AOE.

I have my opinions, but I'd like to hear some knowledgeable opinions to compare against.
  11. I built my 1+ billion Ice/Rad Troller as the ultimate team controller. I dont worry about damage because thats easy to come by these days.

I would say that no other set can match the soft and hard control I have, and my ability to keep teams safe by myself as the solo Troller on an 8 man Task Force.

Arctic Air (Conf Proc) + Choking Cloud (+2Mag Hold Proc) + World of Confusion (Purp Fire DMG Proc), along with Enervating Field Toggled on a boss, along with Ice Slick, Glacier, or EM Pulse for hard or soft controls, is just...well, sick. The Mobs melt with ease and in rapid fashion- all while your team is completely safe.

Everyone on this thread is talking about Dmg, when Ice/ is not about being a damage dealer. Its about being the Control and Dmg mitigation on your team, and my build performs that role better than most other Controller builds in its sleep.

Hell, not many controllers can entirely mitigate groups of enemy damage just by running in with 3 toggles and standing there. Thats before I even cast anything. Level 54's? No problem. I can sit as long as I need to with 3 toggles, Enervating Field, and Rad Infection and still have at least a 2.0 Endurance recovery to usage differential.

Thats not counting that I can spam team heal when needed just under every two seconds, and keep everyone constantly buffed with perma-Acccelerate Metabolism. If you are focusing on playing a group/task force/challenging content role, an Ice/Rad is hard to beat in terms of all the things it can offer a team.

Yeah. Ice controllers, in the proper hands, built with the proper secondary- completely rock!

Sure, if you somehow can't find Damage dealers in a game filled with Blasters, Scrappers, AOE tankers and Dmg Trollers, then sure, it might not be the best choice. But I group and farm with a Purped out Archery/MM blaster, and him and I can clear mobs faster than an 8 man team can most of the time. All it takes is one AOE Dmg king on the team and you'll be just fine.

Fire Controllers are great at Dmg. But when you're looking for high end control in chaotic situations, Arctic Air > Hot Feet any day of the week. Thats why I chose Ice- in the end it was about control for me, and not damage. Theres already plenty of that to go around. Plus it just looks cooler.

I know plenty of Scrappers, Brutes, and Tanks that do nothing but duel melee toons in Sirens on Justice..its actually a pretty popular sub culture in there now.

And Conflict- just save it man....I've read multiple threads today where you put your 2 cents in, and it sounds like you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about in any instance.

Tiger doesnt have a 300 mill IO build and he dominated the Brutes he's faced thus far in there from the duels I saw- and what- hes like 13? What would that mean for someone who actually knew how to put one together? THink about that for a minute...

You showed your intelligence level the minute you brought up a Brute 'kiting'....very effective way to build Fury eh? Any Regen would laugh at a kiting Brute, as theyre not going to kill much at all.

Thats actually very funny....funnier than anything Tiger has said in this thread....

People can believe whatever the hell they want to believe...Those Brutes 'believed' that Tiger was a joke the other day before he put most of them on the floor....I wasnt the only one that saw it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This, my friends, is the average Justice player posting.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Lemme guess? Freedom? Really, you guys need to give this tired line a break. Its actually rather lame considering Ive seen Justice players wipe the floor with avid PvPers from across the servers on test when push came to shove.

Again- if this is all you guys can say these days, why say it at all? Each server has guys that can beat anyone on any given day. This elitist attitude that one server or one server population is better/more intelligent/more skilled than another is a joke.

One of the best PvPers Ive seen comes from Pinnacle for God's sake.

And whats funnier is, much of the Justice population has been around before you, Freedom, or any other server was FOTM. Many of the posters here have been doing this since launch, so anytime this crap is posted, its you guys that are getting laughed at.

My 7 year old is the only one that needs to reuse the same lame, tired insults over and over again.
