    Impale vs. Focus

After watching X-Men 3 yet again I've been wishing that spines looked more like the nameless that Logan fights in the forest.

That point aside :P I have both a claws and a spines scrapper at 50. They really do play relatively the same but the lack of build up is what completely takes the cake for me. They're BOTH lethal damage and closer than people would like to believe in damage potential. Claws is actually one of the few sets I've seen do a raw DPS kill on a standing regen scrapper. (Note: I did say DPS - not a 2 shot from a broadsword)

It's really down to a matter of animations and playstyle. If you're a claw/sr for example you have that uber advantage that none of the other sets have... SPEEEEEEEEEEEEED. Quickness, swift, hurdle and sprint slotted turn you into an unsuppressable beast - couple that with elude and there's almost nothing you can't pace with on a regular basis. The biggest problem with claws is that the dmg is mainly melee DPS and you can't slash/strike repeatedly unless you're in melee range.

This is really a moot argument as a good claws vs. a good spines would be an epic fight, for sure. In a standing battle, assuming the same secondaries and no criticals, the claws would likely win just out of sheer speed. Kiting style, the spiner would prolly win with the higher potential dmg counting DoT's on TS and Impale and the -rech.

I can understand the complaint about villains not getting the new content update that the heroes are getting in the coming few months but we've got to understand that the H base vs. the V base has been around for so much longer without a great amount of change and that bores people.

I know that once I get bored with a game, I tend to quit it and if I hadn't met the love of my life I would have left this game long ago due to extreme lack of content. Much as I loved CoH when it began, not having new stuff for us to do will eventually be the downfall (should it drag on much longer).

Just wait until the Marvel MMO releases and there's only a finite amount of things to do in that universe (which I'm sure there will be considering the story-driven Marvel world). Then you'll really see how badly replay value is demanded in MMO's. All considering how long some of us have been playing (don't mind my forum date... I was a late forum bloomer), there's not much left as far as go-juice for the machine. I already have an entire server full of toons, more than half of which are already 50 and only one toon under 30.

I'm just sad that it's taking this long to get enough new content where I will actually bring my 50's out of the closet to play... really the only time that I do it now is with Hami raids and that's a moot point as only 2 of my toons are strict pvp builds. PvE does not require Hami's :P

Other than the lack of updated content for us older CoH players, I think they're doing a fairly good job of throwing in things for the Villains as they hit the table. Until CoH gets a heftier boost on the content end, I'll have to resign to playing the content on my Mastermind.

We'll see what happens in the future but I honestly think it's about time for the Medic to find a new MMO to tinker with

Cam you seriously didn't read my post in the other thread...

This is a teen targetted game! Where are teens at 9am - 11am central? Regardless of timezone, they should be already in or on their way to school. By sheer demographic, gamers are in their teens to early 30's, the majority of which are still in school to some extent.

The rest of the world is assumed to be employed in a 9-5 which makes sense. There are many people who have oddly scheduled playing hours due to occupation but I will safely guess that 80% of the workforce is on a daytime schedule which makes this an oppotune time to run maintenance.

And I will repeat *this* again too. Every other MMO that I know of has a normally scheduled maintenance in the mid morning, though usually more like 10-2pm. If you would rather have that long of a maintenance, I suggest you write to the corporate offices.

I call the following the Dev logic monologue:

    "I make money from players"
    "More players means more money"
"Most players work during the day and play at night"
"Some gamers stay up all night to play"
"There is a 6 hour time zone difference crossing the US"
"I will perform maintenance when most of those timezones are inactive"
"I hope Cam stops bothering us, we're trying our best to make everyone happy"

LOL just quit Cam... that's all I'll say about that. You'll never get your dream of a perfect world. Every other MMO in existence does daytime maintenance, why wouldn't this one :P

    Anyway sorry for the OT

I don't know how many times this has been brought up but Freedom made a good case about it in our global RadioFreeSpirit. Is there not a way to make the Hive a raidable instance (w/level base 45) instead of a hazard zone?

Thinking from a server power perspective, I understand having multiple instances of the Hive open puts more stress on the servers, but those instances will only have around 60 - 80 people in it - no different than opening an AP2 which is something we do already.

I'm just curious if there have been any plans to create true raid groups of more than 8 people under one commander. It would be awesome if all 5 teams attempting to kill Kronos or any other GM could get the badge instead of just the 10%ers

  6. I call bug, Frost. Was in a CoT mission the other day on my 37 Ice/Kin and was dropping Air Thorns with Frostbite. Maybe it's a chance to -Fly and you just have horrible luck? Either case, it's odd, indeed.
  7. uhhh... no?

here's what nets you the fastest xp without PLing.

solo - period. you will level faster than normally possible if you run missions or hunt solo. run the missions with whites and even con lieutenants to get the max xppm. this is especially true on a scrapper who can likely one shot whites post 33 with dmg in his alpha primary.

if you MUST have teams - short of AV missions, an 8 man team is a set of xp leeches. this really is dependent on your skill and the skill of the team. 8 people is a waste of effort as i could easily clear a mission for 6 on my spine/regen or my fire/kin with no problem. for teams, 4 man is the best overall yield as you get few bosses but lots of lieutenants (run on unyielding) with tons of individual mob counts.

remember for every person you add, that's just another portion of your xp that you're losing, stick to smaller groups and you will level extremely fast. if you're a supporter or have a hard time solo'ing blasters then it's a fault in skill but you will be forced to run in teams.

disregarding the fact that this 8 man team may be running high level missions, in the low (pre-40) game you're better off running with a small team. get those praetorians and it doesn't really matter on team size as the sheer overwhelming force of a hero team will destroy missions faster than you going it solo.

Tried this out on my Claws/Regen and I love the new animations. Great job!

But...I still suck compared to many other players at level 50, because I still do all lethal damage. And I'm not talking just about PvP. In PvE it takes me forever to take down Malta bosses, for example. I'm a scrapper, taking down bosses is what I do! The lethal resist problem needs work.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I must humbly disagree with this for a couple reasons.

1: There's a MAJOR difference between swinging 12 inch (basing from the size on my scrapper's claws) and say setting something on fire, swinging a 6 foot broadsword, etc. Claws will ALWAYS be the "weaker" set if you think only in terms of single target damage, as well it should be or else or Superheroes turn into something that is completely unbelieveable. Hense, again imo, that we have an AoE, 2 cones, a ranged attack (the ranged and 1 cone doing knockback) so we do become just as effective as the other sets, just that we have to be a bit more creative. I know that in teams I have to behave myself, but, when I solo or just have an emp with me, I bounce around like a squirrel on crack and chew through things just as quickly as the others as long as I set them up just right for my scrapper's abilities.

2: Again, you have 12 inch blades on your hands. How much damage do you think you'd do with those to a heavilly armored robot? Not as much as someone who could melt it with fire, or send it into misfires with electricity, for example. So, like I said before, its not so much that the lethal resist is an issue, imo. We just need to work a little differently from everybody else in order to complete the same task is all. So, keep the baddies on their butts like your set allows you to do, then they can't attack so you dont get hurt but they do.

So I was sitting here thinking to myself... Self, I actually appreciate the Claws set in I6. Now they're making me better!

But there's this kid in my SG that seems to think Claws is the most terrible scrapper set in existence. While I suppose that might be, I decided to create a /demorecord of myself in the TV reactor fighting Freaks (massive lethal resist). I'm going to post it here for * and giggles more than anything else.

I don't see any problems in the set as it is except for the lackluster damage. Try watching the demo I made and you be the judge of how much I need buffing >:P. Yes, I'm a 47 Claw/Invul EX'd for the 34 - 43 Respec and yes, the majority of my primary attacks are Hami'd with Dmg/Acc -- shouldn't that make me weaker?

  9. I'm curious how these numbers apply to my Claws/Invul scrapper. He's almost completely HO'd on primary and Invinc, Dull Pain and Unyielding are HO'd out. Right now he's more resistant than Fire tankers in smash/lethal and does fairly well against elemental and energy damage. The only real problems he runs into at lvl 47 is Sappers... < shivvers >

If anyone knows how the numbers stack up could you please post them here? Thanks

    (3) Leave a forum post on the site with your name and basic information (details in the homepage instruction thread)

Guild Description: (Motto, membership requirements/guidelines, and any other information that might help a hero decide whether or not to apply to your group.)

Right now the theme of the group is based on our uniform colors Black & Gold. We're not a big RP group though we do offer cross CoX content RPs with our kin VG Sins of Omega.

The atmosphere in-game is always fun-loving with a purpose. We joke around and are active friends but when it comes to game time, we're all business. Prestige competitions and other games promote a healthy competitive environment for all the members as well.

We do PvP and currently some of our members are working directly with the Death SG, participating in their raids and events as well as ours. With a fully functional base and a blaster heavy membership, we're ready to go in PvP and are looking for more experienced players to game with.

The current membership is mostly mid to high level characters from 35 - 50, but SK's and exemps are always welcome for assistance and general help. We also have a good amoun of badge-[youknowwhat] members that would kill for that one extra badge =)

Oh by the way, powerlevelers need not apply. In order to preserve a good, experienced player base, we do require that PLing be strictly outlawed by any of our members. This ensures that the member plays their character through their levels and learns along the way.

I think that's it for the general info!

If you have any questions regarding our group, gaining access to the site or for any other queries, please feel free to contact me in-game @Omega Medic.

    Blaster Damage

Just to point some things out...

Scrappers have the ability to go to 500% cap... so what? Not many scrappers will actually use all 6 slots for damage. I mean, yeah, I do but most people use accuracy and end reduc also. With my lvl 50 Katana scrapper I can kill an orange minion in one shot with a 6 slot Golden Dragonfly + build up... while at the same time a lvl 50 fire blaster can do that same kill with four slots and a build up + blazing bolt. I would take a blaster's straight up damage any day because I miss about 50% of my attacks even though I brutalize mobs when they connect.

And take a stab at this thought, my Katana is also SR... the weakest resist type of any scrapper bar none. No resist to anything but holds, yes, I also have the highest defense but that is meaningless if I get hit... same idea as a blaster using melee I need to use my brain to kill things sometimes. If you're looking for brute force a blaster is definitely not for you. The smart player will take their squishy and run around using movement to keep himself alive. Any of the blaster attacks can be fired on the run cept a sniper shot. Ever try SSing past a mob and jumping with total focus? Odds are good you'll hit the guy so well he just dies or is stunned. I do the same thing with GD to make sure I stay alive.

You've also got to take a look at how often the scrapper actually connect their hits vs. the damage. IF a blaster can dish out 200 dmg per hit and hits 4/5 times that is still better than the scrapper that did 250 dmg with 3/5 accuracy. You also have Aim, which is a luxury scrappers do not. If you're going to look at the offensive juggernaut remember who has the greatest acc/dmg ratio. You're gonna hit more often, the shots don't have to be as heavy. Please keep in mind most blaster attacks have statuses attached to them to protect you.

Scrappers sometimes have to concentrate on other things in battle. For example, even though I'm an SR, I use provoke to save my groups from trouble so I keep busy, then I need to take down the bosses first to protect squishies. I have no time to think about attacks when my toggles fall or my elude drops all of my END. I lose a valuable 15 seconds to turn all of that back on while kicking up from laying on my back. All the while I've allowed you (the blaster) to plow the enemy ranks quick and easy. Now if you're dying as a blaster with a melee in your team then that is the fault of the melee. A good melee player will hold the aggro or at least cover you well enough that you don't have to worry.

This argument cannot be looked at from the standpoint of "Who does more damage?". The greater picture is that overall blasters over time will have the higher output than a scrapper. I swing harder and with less accuracy, you blast well enough with precision... it's a trade-off that when played with correctly can definitely make a team great. I can team with my blaster girlfriend all day and not need a healer because we both know how to utilize these power sets to their fullest. It's a live and learn system, I have a 50 in all the AT's so you can guess I've been around the block so to speak. Tried it all and true to my latest main, I love scrappers because of versatility, not damage output.
