My wife has problems with the Ranged shot issue. It happens when targeting drone is on. Causes the draw animation to happen 2x, there by slowing the attack and wasting some of her Aim.
[/ QUOTE ]
This should be fixed on the Training Room server currently. Give it a shot and let me know if it's still a problem.

I tried this on Test using Hover and Targeting Drone. Using the Ranged Shot, there is no interrupt animation. Seems to be fixed for me; works better on Test than currently on Live. -

Not sure if it's already been mentioned or not, but here's some findings from another post I just got around to posting:
I've seen this with the over-shoulder mantle. Often, the right side of the cape will clip into the back of the avatar, while the left side is unaffected. Definitely a costume bug.
I have also seen the problem with the Vet Reward Shoulder Cape "transforming" into a half-width normal cape by changing position from the right shoulder to center of the back.
Thanks in advance for any fix to these. -
IMHO, the biggest issue is that many parents don't know enough about the ESRB to make an educated decision.
My Story:
I used to work at a national electronics chain, we'll call it CC. When I worked there, I worked for commission (not salary + commission, just commission). Now, in CC you make little commission on media (CDs, games, etc.); your bread & butter are electronics and accessories. In other words, there's little to no incentive for selling an M-rated game to someone so you can make a sale, because you're only going to get $0.20 out of it anyhow.
However, I was wathcing the Games counter for a coworker one day before the holidays while he was using the restroom. A 40-something father comes up to me with a game. He says his 12-year old son "really wants it". He asks me how good it is. I take a look at it.
The title was "Grand Theft Auto Vice City". Rated M, of course. I almost laughed.
Me, being the conscientious person I am, politely tell him that the game contains blood, violence, drive-by shootings, prostitutes, etc. (most of which are clearly labeled on the back of the case). He, obviously, had no idea of this and promptly chose another game with a better rating.
Now, while there was no incentive for me to care so long as I made a sale, it really wasn't a motivation sicne I wasn't going to make alot anyhow. The problem is that many counter-jockeys just don't care. And since there's no law saying they should care, it really doesn't matter what they sell to mom & dad. That's part of the argument, and certain states have actually made laws whereas M-rated games can only be purchased by those over age 18 with a proper photo ID. (Personally, I have no problems with this, being well over 18, and because there is already a precedent with R-rated films at a theater).
Of course, sometimes it's the parents who just don't care. Even if buying M-rated games required a photo ID to prove your age is over 18, they would still buy them and happily give them to their whiny children just to pacify them. Unfortuantely, that's not so easy to control as opposed to controlling how old the purchaser is in the first place. -

Fair enough.
[ QUOTE ]
Yes, they sued. And they lost. You can't win on 'unauthorized pictures' if you're a celebrity. You can't win on 'unfavorableness' if it's true. The only times celebrities have won (which is rare) is when a tabloid printed an out-and-out lie.
[/ QUOTE ]
Although it's true that many celeb lawsuits get "tossed out", there are still many that never see a court because they are settled outside of court, and dropped.
And there are some cases whereas the celebrity wins as the plaintiff. Naomi Campbell, who's more notorius for being sued by housekeepers and agents than filing charges, won a lawsuit against a British tabloid the Daily Mirror in 2001 for published pictures that invaded her privacy and harmed her career. Although it flipped twice, the ruling eventually was in her favor. From the reference:
[ QUOTE ]
In February 2001 pictures were published in the Daily Mirror newspaper showing Campbell leaving a Narcotics Anonymous meeting in London. In March 2002 Campbell sued the paper citing a breach of confidentiality, since she was receiving treatment for drug addiction at the time. The Mirror claimed that the pictures were in the public interest as Campbell had denied having a drug problem publicly and had, up to that point, not been known or demonstrated to be a drug addict. The High Court ruled in Campbell's favour and the Mirror was ordered to pay £3,500 in damages (although legal costs were thought to be around £500,000.) In October 2002, the Mirror won an Appeal Court ruling that the photographs were indeed in the public interest. Campbell was ordered to pay the costs of the Mirror's legal fees, a cost of around £350,000. However, in May 2004 the Law Lords overturned the Appeal Court ruling by a 3 to 2 majority, which reinstated the High Court's original decision, and Campbell was rewarded £3,500 and the £350,000 legal costs. The Mirror's legal cost is thought to be over £1,000,000. The case is also thought to be a landmark in the rights of celebrities to privacy.
[/ QUOTE ]
But perhaps a parallel to celebs isn't such a good anology since the lines between misrepresentation and privacy can often be mixed in tabloid cases, since their personal lives in the media can adversely affect their ability to work.
As far as pure misrepresentation is concerned, a better parallel may be an injunction against DirecTV by Time Warner. From the reference:
[ QUOTE ]
The new tagline suggests that DIRECTV's high-def picture is as good as any other TV provider, but not necessarily better. The satcaster said in the first Simpson commercial (and an earlier spot featuring Star Trek's William Shatner) that its picture quality "beats cable."
The change was made after cable operator Time Warner sued the satcaster, saying it made a false claim regarding the picture quality. In its lawsuit, Time Warner said it provides "exactly the same screen resolution" as DIRECTV's HDTV picture.
[/ QUOTE ]
In DirecTV's advertising to sell their product, they misrepresented the product of their competitors, causing the lawsuit to be filed.
Transitively, wouldn't picturing Statesman in a video decrying violence in video games be a misrepresentation of his image? In selling their product (tough video game legislation or the cessation of violent video game production), isn't Jack Thompson et al misrepresenting Cryptic and NCSoft's properties? The fictional character Statesman is against bloody violence and capital punishment. Placing his image in the same backdrop as Hitman, GTA, Doom3, and others is a gross misrepresentation of his character and the game in general.
NCSoft has done much to maintain their Teen rating for CoH and CoV. A character from a Teen rated game is not even in the same class as those appearing in Mature rated games.
[ QUOTE ]
We all lambasted Marvel for their baseless suit against Cryptic, and you're saying a little baseless litigation is now OK?
[/ QUOTE ]
I read the Marvel lawsuit, and even wrote a disapproving letter to Marvel regarding the invalidity of the suit. Marvel's lawsuit against NCSoft and Cryptic was not about slander, libel, or misrepresentation; they were not slandering Marvel or any of its intellectual property, or stating that it was ruining the nation's youth be depicting violence in their works.
The lawsuit was about alleged copyright infringement. The claimed that the companies allowed (and even encouraged) players to create Marvel characters with their Character Creation system. However, the case was all but dismissed because of the companies' EULA against copyright infringement, and that the suit was akin to suing a pen manufacturer because someone used their pens to draw Marvel characters. Marvel even put holes in their own case by creating on CoH some of the characters referenced in their suit. Finally, nowhere in any game manuals or documents do the companies specifically say you can create Marvel characters in their game.

You don't know what you're talking about.

Well, like I said, I'm no lawyer, but I am also not a rock or houseplant.
Now, I can see your argument. Would a case like this be hard to prove in court? Definitely. Would it outside the realm of possibility like you suggested? IMHO, no. Would be a frivolous lawsuit? That depends on one's point of view. It certainly would depend on many factors, such how widely distributed the movie is, and it's affect on the media and the public. The more people who are negatively affected by the film, the stronger a case would be. -

3 words: Defamation of Character
[/ QUOTE ]
I hope you posted this as proof that a suit in this case is unwinnable:
1. How could Cryptic prove damages?
2. How could Cryptic prove the opinion that video games is not influential of promoting violence (I mean, 'proof' prove)? It's difficult to prove the positive or the negative of that statement conclusively. And with all that doubt... no successful suit.
3. What actual statement was being made about Statesman which would be the object of the suit?
4. The use of the Statesman image falls under fair use. No one is attempting to use the Statesman image for commercial trade. A short clip does not violate trademark or copyright law. If you produced a video of how super heroes in comic books promote good social values, you could show a brief clip of Superman and DC couldn't win a suit against you (they can sue, but they'd lose).
So... let's all drop the "sue 'em" bandwagon. We hear lots about these types of suits, what we don't here is how they wind up... mostly dismissed or lost.
[/ QUOTE ]
Perhaps Slander or Libel would be better suited for this sort of thing.
And of course proving damages is the hard part to do. IANAL, IANYL, IANC'sL, and INSIWAL (I never said I was a lawyer). But if there's precedent, and/ or they can prove damages or otherwise prove that a video like this can unduly harm reputation, it can be an option. Hollywood actors have sued tabloids (and won) for similar reasons (unauthorized images in magazines depicting them unfavorably).
And whether you agree or disagree with litigation as an option is your opinion. I'm just playing devil's advocateYMMV.

In my eyes, the people making this movie have no credibility. Their "evidence" is laughable, their conclusions based on alarmist gossip and their approach offensive for people who can actually think. I wouldn't concern myself with them discrediting one of my own characters. Simply, their actions will not work with the people that you have targeted your game at.

I'm extremely disappointed that an image of Statesman would be used in such a way. I know that we designed City of Heroes to appeal to "children of all ages." My proudest accomplishment with the game is that many parents (including my brother) play with their children...sharing, I hope, the same joy for the comic book world that I've had ever since I was 8. I cannot express the shock that I felt seeing that a character created by Cryptic would be used in the same sentence as Columbine.
[/ QUOTE ]
Although I'm not prone to ranting, it's a problem with the culture clash. Throughout the history of this country, people on one side of the fence are always blaming something for the problems within the country. But really, it's a chicken-or-the-egg argument. Does playing video games make people violent, or do violent people enjoy video games?
However, given what the character Statesman represents, especially morally (he is against killing even the worst criminals), it's apparent that the extreme views representatives in this video clip show a gross misunderstanding of the vedio game genre in general, and is meant to demonize all video games, instead pointing out the "bad eggs".
Painting with such broad strokes is a bad way to represent a medium. Most video games don't depict the graphic violence depicted in this video.
Why do we need legislature to control video game sales? What happened to holding the store or the parents responsible for what is sold or given to children? -
Paragon Regulators (http://pr.webhop.net) Looking for a few more good heroes!

About the Paragon Regulators: Formed right after the Rikti Invasion, the Paragon Regulators are a group of volunteer heroes with a single purpose - to rid Paragon City of all crime. Like the original Regulators, who dedicated themselves to keeping drugs and crime off the streets, the Paragon Regulators clean up the city, from the lowliest purse snatcher to extremely dangerous Super Villains. Whether it's patrolling in King's Row or venturing into Recluse's Victory, Paragon Regulators have seen it all, and have many war stories to go with their endevours.
Details:
Recruitment is open to any casual player looking to ally with other casual players while getting all the SG benefits.
Age is not a prerequisite, but we do value good personal character, clean humor, maturity, good tactics, and an ability to type without caps lock on permanently
We are a SG composed of volunteers and accept any archetype or origin into our membership. We believe that variety is the key to success, and that overspecialization leads to weakness. The more varied kinds of heroes we have in our ranks, the better!
We currently allow any main or alt into the SG. This policy will change if/ when we hit the max member cap.
Currently we have four coalitions with the Steel Paladins, "The Slayerz", Star Warrioirs, and G.H.O.S.T. Squad.
Base:
We currently have a moderate-sized base. Although we don't yet have a teleporter to every city zone, it will probably be our next expansion within the next month or two, depending on Prestige.
For more information about us, joining us, and our 14-day probationary period, you can check out our web site at pr.webhop.net, or check out our SG rules here. -

There seems to be a new client-side memory leak issue that has a negative impact on framerate after playing for a certain amount of time, or loading high-texture or high-usage zones (Atlas Park, Hamidon raids, Grandville, etc.).
Basically, after you zone out of one of these places, or just after playing through the game (loading many textures), framerate will drop to 5-10FPS.
I originally noticed this problem on Triumph directly after our last Hamidon raid. FPS went to hell once I zoned out of the Hive, which contained over 100 heroes, the Hamidon, many mitos, and many giant monsters.
This problem was also noticed by VoodooCompany on the Victory forums.
Edit: my current system specs:
Pentium 4 socket 478 2.8Ghz HT
1GB RAM
ATI Radeon X850GT 256MB RAM
ATI driver v6.14.10
Windows XP Pro SP 2

This bug is even worse in Base Edit mode.
Scenario: played through one Malta mission, then joined some allies to finish the "Save Statesman" mission with Tyrant. Visited some coalition bases, then started editing my base.
When I opened up the Lighting section, the client actually froze, and I could not Alt-Tab out of the game to close it, because the desktop would not draw over the client. Had to restart my computer; this was a non-recoverable crash.
I suspect the memory leak was compounded by the many base elements drawn in the Edit mode (when you select and place items).
Edit: I could not see CPU or memory utilization, because the Task Manager also would not draw over the client. -

Got kicked from base after entering through FF base portal; therefore, the Base TP vet power is not the culprit, and the previous kick bug still exists, to a varying degree. -

My level 50 characters have their Faultline mini-map's fog-of-war reset each time they enter Faultline. Just like the Shadow Shard zones always do for the same characters.
[/ QUOTE ]
This issue is the only thing that really perturbs me support-wise. I've been reporting this problem since ISSUE 6 with no change in function. Except for FBZ, every time I go to the Shard, the Fog of War resets.
I also noted this problem in Faultline on Test when I8 was first put there, and reported it through the bug system. Still, it gets onto Live. Why?
Another issue: I was playing my low-lvl scrappper last night in KR, but the map had Hazard Zone-like Fog of War (black hidden map) instead of City Zone-like Fog of War (greyed-out, but still visible, map).
These map bugs should be easy to fix. 3 issues later, I am still plagued by old map issues, and now new ones. Having Fly and a reasonable understanding of the geysers, I actually don't mind doing solo work in the Shard; it's the map bug the holds me back.

Non-ambush mobs in safeguard missions have super-ultra-massive perception. They see through stealth/superspeed/etc. "tier 1" cloaking. They even see you from further away than their "wild" counterparts in City/Hazard/Trial Zones. I haven't had the opportunity to try out stacked tier 1 or tier 2 cloaking such as invisibility.

I was playing my WS yesterday in the PI Safeguard mission (lvl 39 SKd to lvl 45, playing w/ two lvl 46s). The Malta perception was ridiculously high - having SS and Shadow Clook on didn't matter. It was as if I didn't even have them activated. I couldn't walk 25ft without getting sapped dry by a Sapper or frozen by a Gunslinger cryo round.

Along the same lines - all the graphics are missing in the Shadow Shard molepoints, as are the sand bags in Portal Corp.
