Another chance to see my avatar.
Edit: Heh, and I love the General forum. Some of the replies to my post...you would have thought I spit in their girlfriend's face with the vigor they attack me.The general forum is just too easy sometimes.
-
I'm on Victory, though I think I do have an alt or two on Virtue and Justice. I'll have to check.
Oh and check the general forums, I solo'ed Statesman in one of the threads there to get the ball rolling. Regen's on the attack. -
[ QUOTE ]
The Regens, I think, knew they were doomed. But where another AT would surrender to the nerfs, the regens fought back with even greater builds. They made the Devs fight for every point of health. In my life, I have never seen anything like it. They would weep, they would post, they would prove the test environment was borked, then throw themselves without fear or hesitation into the very face of an 8 man, AOE heavy mish, never surrendering. No one who saw them fighting against the inevitable, could help but be moved to tears by their courage, their stubborn nobility. When they ran out of IH they used Integration. When they ran out of Integration they used Reconstruction and Dull Pain, and Fast Healing. They were magnificent. I only hope that when it is my time, I may die with half as much dignity as I saw in their eyes in the end. They did this for three issues. They never ran out of courage. But in the end, they ran out of regeneration.

I was looking for that the other day. Thanks for posting it. Wish we had enough sig space to put that in.
Just a fyi.....I pm'ed that to States' a long time ago.....never got a response. -
Gil, you will be missed. I always looked forward to your articles and have greatly appreciated your contributions to this game. Best of luck in all your future endeavors.

Erm. No. PvP will be an optional part of gameplay. Always.
[/ QUOTE ]
Should I take this comment to heart, like I did the "PvP will not effect PvE" comments and "everyone will be able to solo in this game/we will be catering to the casual players" type comments from pre CoH beta, only to find out later that "Well, that's not really what we meant"? Or should I go ahead and assume now that this really means "At this time, the message I want people to hear, but is up for revision at my earliest convience, is....."?
[ QUOTE ]
The changes in I5 had very little to do with PvP and a lot to do with boring PvE. It's that simple. No conspiracy there - I think I've stated this several times.
[/ QUOTE ]
LOL and it gets funnier each time.Take one example. Invulnerability. Invuln could have been adjusted in a million different ways. The most obvious of which was to reduce Invincibility and leave the concept and relationship to the genre intact. Instead we got this mess of useless passive powers and one power, that has nothing to do conceptually with being invulnerable, as the crown jewel of the set. The changes to Invulnerability actually promote the type of behavior the powerset was supposedly changed to reduce.
Many, many players have been baffled as to why Invulnerability was changed in such a way. The most obvious answer?......PvP. Resistance based sets would be far to hard to wear down in a PvP type enviroment. Defense based sets however are quite easy for your average PC to overcome.
Now why would it make sense to remove the core of a powerset, the very thing people take the set for...to emulate and force the set to rely on cheesy game mechanics? To make it vulnerable in PvP of course. The invuln changes really don't make sense in any other light.
And just to note....there you go with the fun/unfun stuff again. You might get a kick out of getting whacked 12 straight times in Super Mario but I don't. No matter how many times you tell me I didn't have fun in I1, 2, and 3 I know I did. My regen scrapper ran every mission, every taskforce, gathered every badge....all of the things you specifically said Regen scrappers didn't do, and most of all I had fun doing it, despite again the fact that you told me I really didn't.
Now, that said, did there need to be changes made to make the game more dynamic and more engaging. Did something need to be done about dumb as rocks mob AI, cheesy game play tactics, and mind numbing button mashing fights? Yep, sure did. Did I5 do that? Not by a long shot. The mobs are still dumb as rocks, damage still trumps all, there is still very little need for tactics above raw power.
Sure will be easier to balance CoH and CoV powersets though.
[ QUOTE ]
As for the supposed "emphasis" on PvP - I think you'll see that it's just ONE part of City of Villains. It has PvE content levels 1 to 50.
[/ QUOTE ]
Guess I'll have to wait and see on that one. My 16+ months of subscription time hasn't garnered me a CoV beta slot yet, despite all the 12+ month invites going out.I have noticed one thing though. I don't think I've seen a dev mention or talk about CoV without placing major emphasis on the PvP aspects of it. I understand the marketing angle and trying to tap that customer base, but I've seen very little about the PvE aspects of CoV. Why should I expect the game to play out differently?
[ QUOTE ]
We'll continue to add new PvE content (which I5 did exclusively, I might add) in the future.
[/ QUOTE ]
I sure hope so. It's what your playerbase craves at this point. Might be nice to get an Issue not riddled with game changing nerfs sometime in the future too. Oh, and for the love of pete, give Regen a break. The set is a complete abomination now, you have succesfully made what used to be the single most fun powerset in the game into a complete pain in the [censored]. Can we go just ONE issue without me having to respec my scrapper? -
[ QUOTE ]
What does the future hold for Paragon City's heroes?
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll be perfectly honest here, none of my usual smirky humor or poorly hidden pot shots.
You answered most of your questions yourself. The writing is on the wall, all their eggs in one basket as you put it. I5 was the beginning of the transition of turning CoH from a PvE based experience into one focused on the PvP aspects to be introduced with CoV.
A majority of future content, I would wager especially end game content, is meant to be player generated...ie:PvP.
It's quite a gamble given the success of the Arena and the playerbase this game has attracted. We'll see how it works out. -

Regeneration Instant Healing - Returned Instant Healing to a toggle; reduced its regeneration buff; recharge remains the same (650 sec.); Instant Healing turns off after 60 secs of use and can be detoggled.
Regen Scrappers didn't like to have so many clicks. Improvement to the power.
[/ QUOTE ]
that's not even funny, dude. don't joke about that.
[/ QUOTE ]
LMAO, I think we have a winner!! -

I don't get Geko sometimes.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's all about the PeeVeePee!!! -
[ QUOTE ]
WAIT!! that's it!!!! let's all talk about how great resiliance is, and that all of our greatness comes from it! non-regeners won't know any better, and they'll complain to the devs that resiliance is overpowered, yet the other powers are fine!! Then, resiliance can be our whipping/nerfing-boy, and it'll slowly go from a 5% buff to 1.2%! no one will care anyway!
[/ QUOTE ]
LOL that would be nice, but it doesnt work that way. Invuln has been saying that Invinc was the problem power in the set since I2 and what did the devs do?
Right........ -
Do you have to ask?
I mean come 'on, that is the best avatar EVER!

[ QUOTE ]
Not to mention how hard it is to get debt badges now! Dang ol' stealth badge nerf.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's alright. They released three new "epic" level debt badges with I5 and my Regen scrapper received two of them within seconds of logging in. Pretty sure I'm not far from the third one either.
Oh yeah.....I was waaaayyy uber. -
[ QUOTE ]
dude, it's not. trust me, if you don't get beta, buy the game for at least the first month. It may look the same at first but... well, I caN't Divulge Any more
[/ QUOTE ]
*shrug* I never wanted to play the villian, and really the only interest I have in CoV is getting the chance to punch "Statesman", if there even is such a mission.
I don't want to endorse CoV until they put some real thought and effort into improving CoH and not just slapping bandaids on it. The fact that CoV gets all the cool ideas talked about on these forums, all the cool upgrades, all the neat new fetures while all our heroes get is nerf after nerf is bad enough. I'm certainly not going to "approve" all of that by actually purchasing CoV.
That said if I get the chance to play it for free via the beta I'd do that just to see what it is all about, but no, my only long term interest at this point is the Incarnate. If that is good I might stick around, if it blows I think I'll be done with CoH for good. -
[ QUOTE ]
I want to thank everyone for keeping this post light hearted and fun. No ridiculous mutant arguments yet!
[/ QUOTE ]
Light hearted and fun? I was completely seriours about everything I said.
And for the record there are no "ridiculous mutant arguments", only "ridiculous mutants". -
Well Tigerbaby, there once were days when scrappers rejoiced in the Zen of Scrapping, a time when we could stand up to the most evil villians of the city and come out victorious, there were once days where heroes roamed the streets of Paragon City. It was a golden age discovery and righteousness where the wicked were thwarted and the stalwart rewarded. It's a time lost to history now, one many of us will look back on fondly as we enter this new age where villiany strikes fear into the heart of the most seasoned "hero", where our powers fail us and our will is pushed to it's limits. Thoose foolish enough to continue the fight hope for better days to once again come our way but are held in check by the vision of the city's greatest champion.
These are dark days indeed, and the looming threat of the Isle of Rogues continues it's steady march toward our once fair city. Take strength in what is left of your powers for you shall need every scrap of it you can muster to survive the tides of change. I can not promise you victory or offer you comfort, only the knowledge that they too will be met with resistance at every turn by the great vision that has befallen us. -
[ QUOTE ]
As some players have pointed out, Defense builds (Super Reflexes, Ice Armor, Stone Armor to a degree) have an inherent weakness in that there are a plethora of powers that debuff Defense in PvE and PvP.
[/ QUOTE ]
Shouldn't Invuln now be included in this as well since its one +Def power is the backbone of the set and is a larger chunk of an Invuln tankers power than all the resist powers combined?
Invuln is no longer considered a Resistance based set. It should be looked at in these discussions and changes as well. -
I wouldn't mind giving it a go, since I doubt I'll buy it at retail. Of course I saw a site that had sceenshots of the CoV powersets and to be honest it really doesn't look all that different. Many of the powersets are just exact copies of the CoH powers. The devs didn't learn a damn thing about powers like Unstoppable, MoG, etc. They are all still there.
It's looking more and more like CoV is simply going to be CoH with villian clothing options and a few particle effects.
I'll email support and see what happens. If I get in I get in. If not...eh. -
[ QUOTE ]
IV didn't get hers either. You can come hang out in the tank forum with us. It's like a damn ghost town.. stupid beta invites!
[/ QUOTE ]
LOL kinda like when I log in. It's nice and all not having any lag, but when it's just me and the civies things seem rather drab. -
Nah, if I did that I wouldn't have anything to [censored] about.
-
LOL looks like all the CoV beta invites went out. Guess I was blacklisted for being a Regen scrapper, or maybe it was because I found the bug in Jack's Regen scrapper video. In anycase I never received my invite despite being here since, well, since CoH has had a website.
See you guys when Incarnates are announced. -
[ QUOTE ]
I never got around to playing with a warlock much. My mage's engineering occupation became almost an obsession near the end there.
[/ QUOTE ]
LOL my priest was a tailor, I know what you mean.
The warlock was a lot of fun, though a bit boring after a while. It was fun as a diversion from my warrior though.
My warrior was absolutely a blast.CoH tanks would absolutely rock if they worked more mechanically the way WoW warriors do. The rage mechanic, stances, etc. It is totally the way to go and allows for a lot of variation/customizing of your hero.
Haven't been privy to the CoV beta yet but I would bet dollars to donuts that Brutes are going to end up a lot like WoW warriors. (of course I may be giving the CoH devs too much credit there)
[ QUOTE ]
True. The 2 characters of mine I've played the least since returning were my scrapper and tanker.
[/ QUOTE ]
I logged them on to do a quick respec. Haven't spent much time on them though. The main thing going against the scrapper is the fact that he is 50 already. So he basically has nothing to do. The tanker just plain isn't any fun. So I figured why bother.
Think I might start a blaster, Archery/Devices looks fun. -
[ QUOTE ]
Gosh. We're only missing like 2 or 3 folks, and then we could have one of them old, old, OLD school scrapper/tanker debates.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, except the old tankers/scrappers don't exist anymore. Heck I barely recognize the Regen powerset anymore.
[ QUOTE ]
So, Nozy, what kind of toon was your main in WoW?
[/ QUOTE ]
Warrior of course.Though he was a DW Fury build which was a bit Rogue-ish by nature.
Played him into the mid 40's. I played around with a Mage, Warlock, and Priest as well....all very fun and all very capable.
-
[ QUOTE ]
damn dude, I'd heared you got wow'd and stuff. good to see you again.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thanks SFI did go to WoW for a while. Right after I5 hit I found myself saying "...turning CoH into just anyother MMO..." and I realized that, well, I've never played another MMO so I decided to put up or shut up. Dropped CoH for a while and took up the call in Azeroth.
WoW is an excellent game, very proffesional, very well put together. There is a reason CoH is floating around 100K subscribers and WoW is over 4 mill.
That said, the sword and sworcery genre never suited me, and I was only doing WoW to see what other MMO's are really like. I must say, if WoW was super hero based I would never have considered coming back.
Still not sure how long I'll stay. Really just reactivated my account to see if I get a CoV invite. Then see how long it takes for them to get Incarnates out. -

Ok, so we were told that we would be getting bases when CoH came out, and all these great things would be coming.
[/ QUOTE ]
Being that I was here from the beginning, I can promise you that bases were NEVER promised. NEVER. It wasn't on the box, on the website or in any promo material. The most we ever said was - "someday we'd like to do bases."
[/ QUOTE ]
LOL not surprising really. Like many of the other sayings from the early days such as "PvP will not effect PvE" and "We want the game to cater to casual/solo players".
So is CoV an expansion or a stand alone then? I don't think I've ever seen a clear answer. Only comments that happen to fit whatever view the devs need at the moment. When convenient to the devs it is an expansion. When convenient it is a stand alone game.
*shrug*
It's a shame to see the business side coming down so hard on the playerbase with the coming of CoV. A lot of the ideals of the early days are washed away to make room for bags of money. In anycase I don't really need a base that bad. You can keep CoV out of my CoH, thanks. -
Ahhhh!!
<eases into his old chair in the corner of the Regen Lounge>
<still comfy>
Now then. Seems we are looking forward to I6? It goes without saying that Regen will be nerfed in I6. Dull Pain and QR, as already noted, are the most prominent targets.
Replacing QR with a click power, around 30% +End Recovery, 50% Enhanceable, 60 Second duration, 1000 second recharge should be good for starters.
Dull Pain (Regen version only) is re-named and changed to a 15% HP Buff, no healing (beyond the % HP modifier), 60 second duration 1000 second recharge.
Reconstruction will have it's recharge modified to bring it in-line with all other 60 sec/1000 sec Regen powers.
Not the best guesses but I've been gone for a while. It'll take me a few to get back into the swing of things.

Hooray! Post-count reset! Now I can point out, at length, just how accute the case of cranial-rectal inversion Archon099 is suffering from is....
Nah. No real need in pointing out the ridiculously obvious.
Instead, I'll limit myself to dealing with the obviously ridiculous. Defiance is getting tweeked. Uhm, yay. There's an old saying that can't help but spring to mind here, "You can polish a turd all day long. But at the end of the day, it's still going to be a turd."
[/ QUOTE ]
LOL Ohms I just love the way you put things. As a mainly non-blaster player I defer all of my opinions to Ohms. He's one of the best blasters I've ever played with (wouldn't mind playing with you again) and certainly knows the game well. So, yeah, what he said.
