How well do you know your City of Heroes/Villains locations?

Hello, hello and welcome to Niviene's Screenshot the Spot forum game where every Wednesday until 4pm Pacific Time (7:00 PM Eastern Time / 12:00 PM GMT / 1:00 Central European Time) you can win your choice of a costume code from past Con seasons and the Forum Title "Screenshot Spotter [date]".

If by the end of the day no one has identified the location, the full picture will be revealed and no one will win for that week (BOOOOOOO!).

    Rules:

    1. Your post must contain a screenshot of the location depicted in the initial contest post, but with your character in the place of Niviene

    2. Screenshots must remain less than 800px X 500px to qualify.

    3. UI needs to be turned off (Menu -> Options -> Keymapping -> scroll to bottom under other "Toggle Screenshot UI")

  6. Ultra Mode, Issue 17: Dark Mirror and Going Rogue!

A while ago, we announced Ultra Mode, a brand spanking new addition to the City of Heroes® universe that will bring Paragon City and the Rogue Isles to an even fresher and visually more pleasing level!

Ultra Mode will allow you (as long as your computer can handle it) to experience City of Heroes® in a completely different light...literally! You will rediscover places and landmarks in Paragon City and the Rogue Isles as if you'd never seen them before, and best of all, it will be in Issue 17: Dark Mirror, our next free expansion! And it is worth mentioning that once Going Rogue has released, you will experience even greater graphics since Praetoria was developed from the ground up with Ultra Mode in mind!

No more waiting in anticipation of this amazing new feature, for its availability is right around the corner! And to make it even more worth your while, here are some additional features you can expect to see in Issue 17: Dark Mirror
    • New badges, new missions and new player emotes
    • Epic Archetypes now available at level 20
    • Improvements and additions to Mission Architect
    • Enhancements to UI and game systems
    • And more

But that is not all the news we have in store for you!

Remember Going Rogue? That's right, how could you forget? Well, you have the opportunity to get access to the Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning power sets in March and April, if you pre purchase City of Heroes Going Rogue (MSRP $29.99 USD)! You will also be able to get your hands on an exclusive item pack if you get the City of Heroes Going Rogue: Complete Collection (MSRP $39.99 USD), that will be available when Going Rogue releases in July! What's in that item pack, you ask? Well, a few nifty things like:
    • Alpha- and Omega-themed auras
    • Alpha and Omega themed costumed sets
    • Four stance emotes
    • The Shadowy Presence invisibility power

Is this too much for you to handle? Hang in there, this year promises to be a fantastic one in City of Heroes® and we've got more details for you on these different offers coming soon!

  11. Hey everyone. We are very aware of your desire for more Going Rogue information. I promise that as soon as we have the next round of information to release, you'll get it. Until then, please refrain from the bickering and back-and-forth arguing. Since that is what this thread has degraded to, I'm going to close it. Other threads on this topic that go in the same direction will be treated similarly, so here's your heads up on that!

If you have any questions, comments or concerns regarding this action please feel free to send me a private message.
  12. I think the titles are given out one by one by an NCSoft employee. = true
  13. Mine is Siphon Speed. Without Siphon Speed I just do not see the point in even continuing on with a character. It really is an addiction I have and sometimes I find that when in groups it's the only power I use (please don't tell those I group with).

Deceive is another I use too. I have been known to keep an enemy deceived just so I can TP Foe him around a map with me and Siphon Speed as it recharges. It's not even necessary to do this but I love it so much that I just can't stop.

If I could Siphon Speed my teammates my life as a Villain would be complete

    • Not Kings Row or Dark Astoria, the colors are wrong. Possibly Atlas, Galaxy, Talos or PI.
    • Load in, hit Galaxy. Hmm, problem: the war walls all have a large brown/gray base to them and the foreground is too short.
    • Flip to Talos. No buildings in the exposed area, so it has to be a pretty exposed skyline with possibly a statue.
    • Hunt around for a moment and then realize there is a gap of sky on that right hand leg of the cross.
    • Can't be one of the regular trees because to be close enough for the tree to intersect the top of the screen, the leaf part would be huge.
    • Try to think of any statues in the game that have some sort of wire coil holding up something. (think a swirling rocket or something in an orbit). Can't come up with any off the top of my head.
    • Lean back and stare at the war walls.
    • THE WAR WALLS HAVE PILLARS! Doh!
    • Can't be in CoH, but be in CoV and must be -very- close to the zone walls or the color would be drab and grim.
    • Load into Port Oakes. During load, think about what could possibly be that orange speck. Car part? Piece of trash? Dead Hellion pant leg?
    • Hit refresh to see if anyone else has figured it out. New image!
    • Not a statue. A statue would be wider in the middle...must be a tree, but a tall skinny tree. Must be a palm!
    • Open screenshot folder of neat places, flip, flip, flip. Ah HA!
    • Load into Cap, race to corner. Try to be patient for daytime in the Etoile Islands. Give up. Take shot anyway.

*Bows down* at SultrySirens feet... Impressive!
  15. I will be in the Rikti War Zone MA Building for anyone that would like to run one of the arcs. Lets play!

    A Word Regarding Phishing Sites

We would like to remind our players to be on the lookout for phishing emails and links to websites that appear to be from NCsoft (like http://ncsoftinternational.tk/ or www.secure-ncsoft-zone.com for instance) and ask for your personal and account information. All such communications should be looked at with a skeptical eye and any asking you specifically for your password and/or special question information are NOT from us (and therefore, might be a scam). We never ask our players for this information and recommend that you never give it out to anyone. We also recommend that you not reveal your email address in either your profile or signature on the boards as it makes it much easier for you to be targeted by those attempting to phish information from you.

If you experience anything like this, please feel free to contact us at cohmoderation@ncsoft.com with the specifics so that we may look into the situation. Thank you very much for your cooperation - we appreciate your assistance regarding this matter!

  21. Ask a Dev

For those of you who may not be familiar with the "Ask a Dev" article series, here is how it works: periodically, we'll introduce a member of the City of Heroes Development Team and open a reply forum thread where fans can pose their questions for that developer. Then a few weeks later we'll close the question thread and go through and pick out the best and most appropriate questions and the developer will provide the answers!

As part of our ongoing "Ask a Dev" article series, since we’ve had her on here before, we are proud to RE-introduce to you our next developer: Lead Designer Melissa “War Witch” Bianco!

City of Heroes "Ask a Dev" with Lead Designer Melissa “War Witch” Bianco

    Introduction: (Bio)

Melissa “War Witch” Bianco was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

She graduated from Capilano College in 1991 with an Associate Arts and Sciences Diploma in Media Resources. Soon after graduating from college, Melissa worked as an Extras Casting Director for both commercials and television movies. She has also worked as a Talent Agent and a Production Assistant in Vancouver.

Melissa moved to California in 1999. She has been on the City of Heroes® team since February of 2002 and prior to assuming the “Lead Designer” role, she was in charge of the game’s “World Design” Team. She loves gaming, spending time with her friends and family, rides a motorcycle and is also the author of the chick lit novel, Real Life.

What Melissa does on the City of Heroes Team:

In a nutshell, the Lead Designer guides the Design team and steers the overall direction of its focus and the initiatives for the game. The Design Department conceives and spearheads the features and content that the Art and Programming teams help create, so there are a lot of creative and administrative challenges in this responsibility. The Lead Designer also evaluates risk vs. reward, cool vs. lame, and attempts to incorporate ongoing feedback from the players about what features they want and what we, as a studio, can do from a technical or scheduling standpoint.

Please use this thread to post your questions for Melissa!

Questions will be collected on Jan. 29, 2010 from the forums and not long after that, we'll post Melissa’s answers and introduce our next dev and ask for your questions for them.
