  2. I'm pretty new to the blaster scene but thought it would be a good test of what I've learned in the last week to attempt to tweak what you submitted. I noticed that you used purple sets so I used them thinking you must be shamelessly rich . You mentioned level 20 viability so built to that spec first then finished the build out after a 20 mindset to the best of my abilities ( such as they are right now ).

    You mentioned being in a group setting for the most part and to my mind a Blaster will be an AOE - DPS first and foremost, and a Single Target ( AV ) DPS second. With that in mind I took out the melee attack you had as I see this build lending itself to range MUCH better ( Boost range ). I added flares as it is a fast attack that can be used when mez'd or held along with fire blast. It's a good replacement for Bone Smasher in this build as you will be at range most of the time anyway. I moved Super Speed to the end of the build to get LRM one more slot. Damage damage damage ! I took out two slots from health as this build isn't really a blapper ( my version anyway ) so with the added defense it should be fine where it's at. Body armor was over slotted. I took Maneuvers and slotted it fully with Red Fortune to give some tasty additions along with better defense. I'm certain the experts could min/max this but I used it as a chance to see if I'm picking up what they're layin' down

  4. Heh, yeah I came to the conclusion that I just needed to play it. I made 20 last night after I logged off my Tanker. I took the powers up to twenty like I did to facilitate team TF runs. I wanted as much AOE as I could squeeze in. I took stamina soon after and got hasten in there right before Full Auto to assure my attack chain having the space it needed. The rest is up in the air. I took out ignite because as a tanker, I hated mobs spread here, there and everywhere. Without a way to hold them or slow them it seemed counter intuitive to what I was shooting ( HA! a punny ! ) for.

I guess it's about as fine tuned as it's gonna get unless I wanted to go over the top with purples ( can't afford that any time soon ! ) I'm excited to see just how much better this is than my current build. I have it on switch, but no IOs in it yet. I guess it's time to spend a few days in WW and see what I can come up with

  9. After some mids work I've finally settled on this as my final build. I wanted to post if for the sake of completeness. I've made 44 as of tonight and so far it's been a steam-roller of a tank. In the end I liked the idea of Salt Crystals to give me a POA AOE debuff. My recharge rate is right at 107%, 207% when I open with fault, and everything cycles beautifully. My attack chain is never ending. My defense looks sweet. All in all a very nice build for me. Thanks for all the advice folks. It's been very much appreciated.

    As a WP/Stone Melee Tanker I can tell you that I've never once felt like I was in over my head in a PUG or solo. In fact, very much the opposite has been true. Since his creation STP (StoneTemple Pilot) has been a joy to level. I solo'd and PUG'd with him (before AE thankyouverymuch) to 39 before I decided to join a guild and share the greatness that is a WP / Stone Melee tanker.

    In all the MMOs ( SO many of them !! ) I've always been a Tank. It just fits my mentality, mindset and style. First in, last out .. kinda like a Marine I like to be the unbreakable wall that holds the line. I like to be the knight in shining armor that pulls a squishy from the brink of a face plant. CoX, just about more than any other MMO got the tank class right. Those that played EQ can attest to the futility of playing a Warrior.

    My favorite thing is when you join a PUG, or in the case of STP, join a guild that hasn't seen (at least in a while) a tanker that knew how to really, truly play that class. Usually it's "WOW, man, you kick @$$ !!" The best compliment you can get is from the healer. If they are reduced to the role of a buffer/mini-blaster/mini-controller you're doing it right. They are ALWAYS grateful to have a real tank in the group.

  14. Great stuff Grey. Thanks for that. I agree about the two travel powers. It's not something I normally would consider, unless it was a PvP oriented build, then perhaps.

    I had no idea a second book was made! I'll be making a run to the Boarders ( HA ! ) to grab it after work today. Hmm then maybe I'll go to Taco Bell ....I digress.

    This is clearly meant to be a grouping build. I'm pretty sure It will be ok to solo with but I sure hope I wont have to do that much. That's getting tougher and tougher though. I've not delved into the evil that is A.E. Just seems wrong to eschew all the content and story arcs for player made speed leveling runs. I dunno, maybe I'm old fashioned but,

    We used to take a year ( Or MORE ) to get to max level in EQ. We had to go to extremely difficult planes to get decent gear, and we had to camp, BOTH WAYS !! I had 2 Yaks and a FBSS and I was THANKFUL!! ......

    M30 looks "ok" but wouldn't normally take it except for Positron runs maybe? I wanted a lot of AOE at 20. I just remember that I used to make builds as lvl 20 viable. Has this changed much? I could make an alternate build for at level play with the switch set so I guess the question is mostly moot.

    With the slotting, I was doing it with defensive bonuses in mind. Also I was making this at work ( what else is new .. ) And was too paranoid to spend a great deal of time for fear big brother would find me out :P. I understand about the best defense is a good offense ( "You know who said that?? Mel the cook on Alice .." Alllrighty then, moving on. ). I guess I erred on the side of PUG deficit spending. It goes something like this.

    1) Do you PUG?
    If yes, add more defense, or an ability to heal yourself.
    If no, congradulations you are either anti-social in a MMO.. wtf .. OR you are in a fantastic guild with knowledgable players who are on during the same hours as you. I'm jealous, are you on Virtue? If so, what's the name of this famous guild ??
    2) Did the addition of the power gimp you?
    If yes, pick a new power and repeat step two.
    If No, congradulations you are now ready to level slower but safer in any environment. Get out there and apprehend some bad guys!
  17. Ok, I've been a mad man since I've started playing CoX again. Alt-itis is a fickle mistress who must be appeased ! I've decided to create a Powered armor Hero ( Not terribly original, but it IS new to me ) I'm basing it off of a great book called simply Armor. If you've not read it .. get it , read it , love it. Seriously ... what are you waiting for ????



    Moving on.

    I've tried to read up on AR. It's a totally new set to me, which is why I chose it. I've had energy ( think 4 years ago . . . ) so remember vaguely what it is about, but really I've only taken things that fill my thematic needs.

    The power pools fit within a powered suit theme as well. Since the suit in question ( from the book, did you get it yet ?? ) is stealthy, concealment fits nicely and I intend to run it full time as a toggle.

    So, how gimped have I made myself ?? I'm a melee player trying on his Blaster shoes. I took full sets because my franken-slotting skills are weak. I went for ranged defense along with AOE too. I envision this being a full ranged build... not too much in close except as needed for my shorter ranged cones. Is this ok ?? Any help is very much appreciated.

  19. You guys rock ! Thanks very much. I have a lot to mull over. The celerity in sprint has been a trick of mine for awhile. Sometimes I don't want to be invisible ( pure costume design vanity at play here ... it's sad really. . . )

    With the Katana, I'm wondering will the speed of my attack chain be fairly slow for a scrapper? I currently play a WP / Stone tank and am able to constantly attack. When I'm a melee player, that's just how I like to roll.. waiting on an attack to recharge makes me nuts unless it's a end all be all kinda attack ( like seismic for my Tanker.. it goes off every other attack cycle in my rotation but the other attacks cycle fast enough to fill that one rotation without pause ) I guess I'm an ADHD player :P I nearly took WP claws because I know WP very well and know claws is hyper quick. I'm just a thematic junkie and this idea has been in my head awhile.

    One last question, if you please. From what I gather what I did was essentially correct, just not efficient ? I'd like to know if I'm grasping concepts
  20. Hello there scrapper community, I come seeking advice on what I hope to be a very different build for me to try. My aim is to make a natural ( no really ! ) Sword Saint who pays homage to the old (think 70's) Martial Arts Movie swordsman. The name is borrowed from Final Fantasy just to appease my daughter
    A few things:

    1) I'm not rolling in influence, but I have several of the pricier IO's both numinas in this build and the regenerative tissue for instance. I have also have the LoTG recharges on hand along with the +3% Def steadfast. Lastly I have the celerity + stealth.

    2) No travel power. I've gone the natural route before and it's not that bad. I have hedged my bet however with plenty of run speed built into this along with the obligatory leaping that all proper 70's martial artists possessed

    3) Thanks to the kind tanker community I've begun to grasp positional defense. Have I worked that into the build sufficiently for this AT?

    4) I hate running out of end and having toggles drop. I've put in a lot of recovery but is it enough ? I kept the recharge to 115% so as not to bugger up my stamina, and finally I have conserve power just in case.

    5) As you can see I didn't take divine avalanche. Was this a mistake, and, do I have enough damage as is to hold my own on a team?

  21. Yeah CMA , if you read a few post up, I did indeed come to that conclusion. I was thinking even con = same level. That was my mistake I'm embarrassed to say. I was KBing -2 level Boss mobs that conned even. When I faced anything 43 ( blue con or up ) KD was all that happened.

    @Nintova, In order to be conceptual, to not normally have a problem in threat levels, have team dynamic and make up flexibility, somewhere all that I would of done was fit in Taunt, the real one and gave it slots. Working out just how limited I would of imagined to be on that build would of been of interest.
    It's still my switch build I have SO many veteran respecs on that toon I can pretty much play a little bit to find out if the scientific experiment, as you call it is viable. I'm still tinkering with Tremor, it just is so different than what I've done for 40+ levels. I do like having an AOE damage dealer, if not for the damage then at least for the agro. Every little bit helps I suppose.

    It's odd how unstoppable I feel with my tank when I play, especially looking at the numbers with the slots the way I have them. It just doesn't feel weak. My health and stam never drop below 1/4 and if they do , from a huge alpha, it comes right back. I'm always attacking .. no pauses ever. I can't wait to see what it's like with the correct IOs and slotting. All I need to do is learn where to earn insp. to fund this monster. I really want to do the major AVs in this game and know that my build, as is , will be seriously exposed.

  23. Ok, FWIW, I've been attacking Fake Nemesis and the goonies that run with them in Peregrine Island on Virtue the last 15 minutes. So far they have been even FN and blue henchmen. Every single time I attack, I'm causing KB. I'm including my build verbatim to this point. Please keep in mind that against orange cons this was happening last night. I can't see what the cause is. I'm not spectacularly slotted, just what I could afford at the time or what I found/won on missions. I've even included empty slots for accuracy. this is exactly what I look like at this moment.

    edit: Mystery solved. I'm embarrassed at the solution it was so simple. I guess I'll attribute it to being away from the game so long. Not all even cons are created equal. The Fake Nemesis that conned even were , in fact, 2 levels below me. The blue cons were actually the same level as the even con.

  24. I'll look at my slots when I get home tonight, but I was doing KB to Fake Nemesis ( +1 level to me, some even ) and their cronies in Peregrine Island last night. I've experienced the Stone set doing KB against lowbies, but against even or better mobs It was working as I expected. The only one that was doing KB was tremor .. come to think of it, it's got 2 ACC, 3 Dam and 1 Stam SO in it .. so If I'm getting KB it's from something else. Without the game in front of me I'm clueless.
