Except that would make sense if the pets had died after the first set of buffs wore off. In theory, they had to be maxed on Regen when they first went in, so if anything, that should have been their best chance at survival.

Don't worry. I feel confident no one will ever mistake you for a Pingu.
Not really. Feel free to explain it to me, though. I understand I can be quite slow at times, but your comment honestly has me at a complete loss. Are you trying to say Pingus are hypocrites? Are you trying to crack a joke? I apologize for not getting it, as I'm sure it was a golden nugget of verbal accomplishment, but it's just not clicking.
Quote:Ping if you have some kind of a boner and feel the need to have a stab and jab match with me, Im game... Maybe we can meet at your famed gas station?
Michael: Okay, you know what you do? You buy yourself a tape recorder, you just record yourself for a whole day. I think youre going to be surprised at some of your phrasing.
No, Bud, while I'm flattered at the offer, I have zero interest in playing a peen-centric "stab and jab match" with you. However, if you would like to take potshots (and before you decide to make up your own definition for that well-known idiom, I mean that in the sense of criticism, not some other type of proposed pantsless game at a local business) at me, feel free. However, simply as an aside, I feel that wouldn't be the intelligent choice by you.
I like to think I own up to my hypocrisy whenever it is presented to me, and if I don't, I'll be happy to take my criticism like a big boy. If you don't feel that you've been a hypocrite with this thread, by all means, present your argument. I'm intrigued to hear it. Otherwise, take your medicine, admit that this thread is nothing but a lying attention grab, and try to walk away with at least a little shred of respect. You're only compounding your own problems.
Yeah, that's a tad concerning. He certainly has a way with words. -
*shrug*
Mistakes happen. It's not like Kitten blatantly misrepresented the rules for the channel by bragging that anything goes and then going back on that statement by silencing someone in the channel. If that were the case, that would be dishonest and inappropriate. -

Quote:I must say that I've never seen that comic before, but that is such an appropriate representation. Kudos, Silas and Stray.Only going to link it since it contains profanity and I don't feel like getting mod smacked immediately.

Quote:Except, I guess it seems odd to me to think of CU as a mutation of BMT. Sure, CU was borne from someone's distaste for BMT, but it was so radically different and served such an entirely different purpose that it would be kind of like saying a fire ant was a mutation of algae. They both have the same origin if you go far enough back, but they don't even share the same ecosystem at this point, so can they really be compared to one another? I mean, should the diet of one be compared to the diet of the other? Should the ecological purpose of the ant be compared to the ecological purpose of the algae? Should their niches be compared?Currently I'm reading the "God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins, so I see this as "Natural Selection". CU is a mutation of the BMT. Only time will tell .....
They have the same basic structure if viewed from afar (both comprised of the same basic elements and molecules, both inhabit the same general ecosystem known as Earth, etc.), but when one takes a moment to truly look at their nature and purpose, is there any reason for them to be compared and one to be declared better than the other? Both seem to excel in their given niche and serve their given purpose quite well. Both seem nigh useless if placed in the other's niche and forced to attempt to serve the other's given purpose (chlorophyll is one thing ants have yet to master, to my knowledge). Sometimes, comparisons are useless even if both objects came from the same source.
As Einstein said, "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid."
I apologize if I gave the impression that everyone that left BMT for CU did so for a selfish reason. Only the founder of CU left for the reason I stated. After that, many people shifted to CU simply due to its different nature and approach, which is a perfectly valid reason in my mind. -
Quote:Oh, no doubt. It just seemed like a funny coincidence to me that both happened to be next to each other. With all due respect, one is a Global Channel and the other is a Tournament League. It is .... well.... comparing Apples to Oranges.
Quote:I think the point to the humour of this thread is that where BMT is (or was) unnecessarily moderated, the CU Global Channel survives, and strives, without those limitation.
As for its ability to survive under such conditions, I'm not surprised. I see it as a similar argument to the one Apple posed for years when comparing itself to Microsoft. Apple would point at Microsoft's issues with hacking and viruses and say, "Look how much safer our computer is. It never gets viruses," while the tech community would point out that the reason it never got viruses was because nobody gave a crap about Apple and they weren't the big kid in the neighborhood. When I was last here, CU was a fledgling startup borne from the anger of a single moderated SG leader who got mad that he wasn't allowed to be in charge of BMT (a mirror image of what happened with the Hami channel, if I recall correctly). He tried desperately to force his channel to catch on by attacking the rules, leadership, and approach of BMT, and with his SG-mates and a variety of others, it did. However, BMT remained the big kid in the neighborhood, though I can honestly say it doesn't matter to me what channel has what popularity since the point of all of this silliness is for folks to enjoy the game.
The rules that were decided upon for BMT were put in place simply to make the channel as welcoming to as large a segment of the population as possible. For comparison, I also ran Pingu chat, and its rules were far, far, far different, but such an atmosphere is by no means for everyone. Kinda of like how the Pingus' Pass the TO game isn't for everyone, eh Dinah? BMT was designed to be a family-friendly option to help folks with their quests to attain certain badges, monsters, and task forces while also doubling as a helpful landing ground for newer players. CU was built with a different goal in mind, much like Pingu chat, so comparing it to BMT is, as you so appropriately put it, quite like comparing apples to oranges. It never really made sense to me why people compared the two at all, since their reason for existence was quite different.
Now that I've learned that CU is still in existence, I'll happily recommend folks head over there if they are unhappy with the approach and design of BMT. -
Quote:Oh, usually when folks don't attribute a quote to someone else, it's because it's not a quote.Ping that was my saying if don't like the rules.... Kicks rocks homie. You digg.?
What show? Is there a show? And did you really just say bleep? Eh well, I didn't even know you were still around. Thanks for following me into a thread though, Showrunnerdoggdigghomie. -
Quote:andDue to the recent extreme popularity of threads for other channels out there, I figured I too should re-clarify the rules of Champions United.
These rules are in place for a reason and should be respected as such.
Ive taken the time to break down the rules individually, catagorize, alphabetize, colorize, and any, and all other ize words you can think of.
An official draft of these rules will be drawn up in the near future to see if we can get them approved and signed off by Posi himself, this way we can all sleep better at night knowing we have corperate backing.
Now on to the rules section:
RULES
1. ............oh yeaaaaa..... we don't need no stinkin rules.
Taking nothing away from your totally unique thread here, this little coincidence just struck me as humorous. -
Yeah, I have no problem with a timer, but I'm thinking 180 days is much nicer than 30. We'll just try to get folks reinvited as we find out about it.
-
Just to make sure we're clear, I have nothing but respect and gratitude for the way Cobalt handled the channel for the entire time he was a Moderator and retiring was his choice, not something I wanted.
-
Hmm, rules? In an organized format? This seems inappropriate.
BMT's main purpose is to be a chat channel that assists people with getting badges, monsters, and task forces/trials. It allows people to find and join groups for the purpose of obtaining these accomplishments, many of which require a group. However, we should not forget that BMT is also a chat channel. Thus...
RULES
1) Off topic conversation is part of a welcoming chat channel, and it is allowed in BMT. However, off topic conversation is not to hinder the main purpose of the channel. If an off-topic conversation is hindering the main purpose of the channel, the individuals will be asked to stop the conversation merely to allow the main purpose to be fulfilled. If they continue, they can be subject to silencing or kicking. If someone is silenced or kicked, the moderator is expected to give a clear rationale for why that silencing/kicking occurred following it.
For all the interpretation buffs out there, "hinder" is not a word that is set in stone. Instead, it is at the discretion of each individual moderator of the channel. The general consensus is that if the off-topic conversation is not preventing individuals from noticing a BMT-related announcement, then it is acceptable. Keep this in mind when participating in such conversations, as BMT-related announcements will always take precedence. Also keep in mind that in certain extreme circumstances, a moderator may skip the verbal warning and move right to silencing (such as if people are attempting to locate individuals in the channel for a large-scale event or the offender is that of the serial nature).
2) BMT is a family friendly channel...to an extent. It doesn't have to meet the rigorous family friendly standards of Saturday morning cartoons, but try to keep it acceptable for primetime television. A small slip up won't get you booted, but if it becomes a consistent problem or you go on a profanity-laced tirade, expect to get silenced. This goes for extensive innuendos as well.
3) No ads for farming, PLing, or similar antics. Seriously, you're adults. It's not that difficult to figure out what doesn't belong in BMT, and if you push it, expect to hear about it. I'm not interested in playing games about what's on the line, and I can't lay out every single acceptable discussion topic versus every single off-limit topic, so if it seems questionable, I wouldn't recommend doing it. If you do and get mod-slapped, don't try to act all innocent afterward. It's unbecoming.
Honestly, I think that about covers it for general rules. If I missed one, I'll edit this post and add it in later.
Now, for the most important part, let's cover moderation and customer service.
MODERATION
Moderators are folks I've known for an extensive period of time and trust not to destroy the channel. They're also there to rope it in when one of the above rules is being violated blatantly, but honestly, their main role (though it's the less noticeable part) is to recruit/invite for the channel and prepare the MotD (because I do neither of those things).
When it comes to dealing with rule issues, the first step each moderator should be taking (outside of extreme circumstances) is a request that the individual refrain from continuing to violate the rule in question. Sometimes this will be done in public (as some people put it, "anyways..."), and sometimes this will be done in private (Ding! You have tell!). How each moderator puts it, how they do it, and what qualifies as an extreme circumstance is going to be at that moderator's discretion, and their discretion may change dependent on the situation, so try not to get all butthurt because one sends you a nicer tell than another. They may be busy doing other stuff too.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Thank you for calling BMT Customer Service. My name is Ping. How can I help you today?
The reality is that the moderators are enforcing the rules of the channel, and just like those guys on COPS who were obviously breaking the law but insist that they didn't do anything wrong and the cops are just being pricks, people are going to get annoyed/upset/pissed/whiny when they get moderated. Sometimes, it'll be for good reason. Sometimes, it won't be.
That's where I come in.
I'm here to hear your complaints. Send me a tell if you're unhappy with something that happened, if you have a recommendation for a moderator, if you want your voice to be heard (insert cheesy NBC music here). Know that I'm not going to just take your word for it when you call my moderator a jerkface and insist they be fired because they're out to get you, but I will get both sides of the story and try my best to clear the air between the two of you. Sometimes, that results in me assisting the moderator with their interpretation of the rules. Sometimes, that results in me attempting to ask you in a somewhat respectful tone how you thought it wasn't a violation of the rules to curse fourteen times right before you solicited sex from a goat in the channel. I like to think I'm a pretty fair arbiter, and I won't take offense if you flip out and cuss me or my moderators out privately.
Know that my (and by extension, my moderators') goal is to have BMT run smoothly and support all individuals in their goal of obtaining more badges, monsters, and task forces/trials while also serving as a welcoming server channel that allows folks to get to know each other better and have more fun. If you have any suggestions for how I can accomplish this better, please don't hesitate to let me know. -

Can someone teach me about these class thingies? -
Only 3 birthday wishes? I've apparently been gone too long.
