Riley Rosenburg fell in love when he was 23 years old, her name was Phoebe Winterbourne and for a couple of years they lived happily with each other, but as I'm sure your aware, happy endings are the things of fairytales and wishful thinking.Phoebe was a heroine in Paragon city, her powers of mastery over ice gave her the edge she needed to fight crime in the place where she had lived all her life. And everything went well well till she was infected with a magical virus that siphoned all her powers to the Circle of Thorns mage who inflicted her.

Riley was furious, his rage and anger drove him to near insanity to find a cure for her illness. Then one day, he did. In an ancinet tome he found a story of the Shadestar, a magical crystal that drew upon the powers of the Dark realms to heal those with her condition, he ventured to the mountain where the crystal was kept and acquired it, only to be ambushed by a bunch of Circle mages lead by the one who did this to his beloved. They killed the weakened Winterbourne girl and stole her powers over ice,then turned on Riley.

Riley never knew how it happened,but something about his pure rage and passion meant the crystal somehow binded itself to his soul,and gave him the ability to channel the same energy he craved for to save his lover. In a flurry of dark blasts he defeated all but the lead circle mage,whom he let go as a warning to any mage from the group who tried to hurt him again.

Now he follows in her footsteps as the hero Shadestar after the crystal that gives him his powers. And hopes one day he can do what mankind dreamed off since creation,cheat death by bringing her back.

*sighs* phew, that was pretty good for a spontaneuos wirting session

Shades a dark/Dark defender who not suprisingly isn't a huge people person, hes a bit detached and quiet, but when he's passionate about something he puts his all into it, and hates to watch innocents be hurt.
