  1. Sorry I've been absent lately. I'll try to get the results of this contest up ASAP. If anyone has suggestions for the next palette, feel free to send a PM my way.
  2. there are shades of grey in between.
  3. Nice job, gang.

Chisoku, what happened to the noir theme?
  4. [ QUOTE ]
Because, what I was having an idea of doing was a completely black and white character, but that would require black and white skin as well. And that's not normal skin color, now is it?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I said you CAN, not you had to.
  5. how does the skin and hair option mess with your noir concept?
  6. Because I'm too lazy to go looking for a palette right now, I've got a special treat for you. You'll be choosing your own palette this week. There are some stipulations, though.

    1. palette must be monochromatic - your choice of color
    2. you must use at LEAST 3 shades of the color you choose
    3. you can use "realistic" skin tones and hair colors

    Any questions?

    Deadline is Saturday.
  7. 1st place: Prime Mogul
    2nd place: Ellette
    3rd place: Fillypad

    Congratulations! You've all won a no-prize!
  8. You can find the entries here.

    The Grim Hunger –
This kind of color scheme is an odd fit for a necromancer, but you make it work by using a good pattern with the olors.I’d consider using the purple as the dominant color to add some support to the “dark and undead” themes that naturally accompany a necromancer.

    Fillypad –
Clearly we have a former Miss Swamp Thing amidst these entries. Very nicely done, using the green on the monstrous fur body parts. It lends a mossy appearance to the character. Using just a touch of purple for accents was a smart choice in this case.

    Grandma –
This one’s tough to judge due to how small she appears within the frame. Overall, I like the styling of the jacket and pants. Should I start allowing the limited use of neutral colors like black or white in addition o the palettes themselves? In this case, I think the belt could benefit from a touch of black.

    Ellette –
Nicely done. Even the messed up mini skirt works to your advantage here. Good contrast of greens. I might use a purple on the legs for pattern’s sake (green skirt/purple legs/green boots) or like I suggested when the skirt gets fixed, flip the upper body color scheme so that you have green in the center instead.

    Prime Mogul –
Nicely put together design. I’m not crazy about the cigar here, but if it’s part of the character to be puffing away while kicking [censored]… It has a sci fi pulp feel to it.

    Thorny Thistle –
Nice use of contrast on the legs. Reminds me of the Wicked Witch from Oz. I think the design could use another splash of purple or two. Maybe the belt or just the belt buckle?

    Radon Angel –
Everything’s working well here except the organic shoulders. The boots, gloves, and chest piece are all harder edged – probably machine stamped – and then you have this “natural” organic piece on the shoulders. To me, it sort of clashes with the theme you’ve chosen to thread thoughout.

    Anita Cocktail –
This one’s a little tough to see with the aura and the darker lighting of Pocket D. As a design, it’s functional. You have well balanced use of color throughout, although I might suggest using the lightest green on the belt for maximum impact. I think this costume might benefit more from a wider range of colors. I can see the fairy wings as a completely different set of colors from the rest of the costume.

    Frankenmime –
That face reminds me of when the Joker and his cronies start trashing the museum’s art in the first Batman movie. As a matter of fact, I think I hear the Prince soundtrack in the background… This is another costume that would probably benefit from a couple more colors. I think if you used black and white, you’d capture the mime look, and then keep the green for the Frankenstein look.
  9. Don't forget, your entries are due today.
  10. When the skirt is fixed, just flip the colors (starshot the green of the top, and make the skirt the purple on the torso). I think it'll line up on the sides... Or you might have to use a thicker stripe.
  11. Just think, if you collect enough no-prizes, you could make quite an animated avatar.

Now get cracking! I can't wait to see what you guys come up with for this new palette.
  12. A little extra something for you all...

    1st place: StarPyre
    2nd place: Dragon Fyre
    3rd place: Fryer Fry

Congratulations! You've won something slightly more than a no-prize!
  13. I see what you mean. I can only make out one of the purples and two of the greens. Quite the brightly colored necro MM.

I don't want to sound all persnickety, but can you use less images, please? The more shots you put in your collage, the smaller they get, and then it's harder for me to make out the details. A front, back, and 3/4 turn is really all I need, but one or two action shots can be included.

The neck chain I like using sort of like a necklace on my characters using tights. IMO the neck line left by tights always looks unfinished.

Methinks someone needs to sweetalk Jay into making some necklaces...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Don't forget to mention sailor style school uniforms.
  15. Ah, definitely some trickery of the light in the screencaps.
  16. Damn, you're a quick one!

You'll never guess where the inspiration for this week's palette came from.
  17. Limone –
Good use of color here – a nice balance between yellow and orange, with the redder color used as an accent. With the hat and the mask, I’m reminded of the older pulp heroes, which in my book, is always cool. I’m stumped by the shoulder pads. My first instinct is to suggest ditching them, but then you’re faced with a potential “gap” of accent use. I like the very dark color on the legs and mask. It makes me think that they’re of the same material as women’s stockings. However, I’d change the color of the hat band to match the gloves and shoulders. It looks like you’re using the “sharp” pattern on the boots, but they’re so covered up by the boots themselves, they may as well not be there at all.

    DragonFyre –
Nice job combining this color scheme with the reptilian pieces. Definitely looks draconic. Maybe it’s just the screencaps, but the arm spikes on the upper arms almost blend in. Try to get some more contrast there. Everything else looks good. Definitely a prime candidate for Fire Breath.

    Orange Slice –
Again, good use of color patterns. It’s too bad we don’t have any sailor tops to use yet. She’d be a perfect for an anime character. Nice job.

    Binary Woman –
I’m not sure what sort of point you’re trying to make with the dots on her costume, but you have a good scheme going with the orange body/red boots and gloves. Things kind of get blurry on the head though. There’s a lot of orange. Unless she’s an alien or other non-human race, there’s no need to use the palette colors for skin tones. You need some red up here, though. It can be the hair or the horns, but you need that red for contrast.

    FryerFry –
Clever name. Love the choice of hairstyle. It immediately gives the character a fiery quality before you even get to the colors. Given the eldritch chest emblem and the voodoo-like skull mask, there might be a hint of occultism to the character as well. I’m not sure about the chains. Any particular reason you chose them?

    Star Pyre –
Seraff graces us with another golden ager. Nice job all around. Even the hair style is reflective of the era in which the character may have sprung from.

    Crescent of Mars –
Despite the mish-mash of costume pieces, this one is off to a good start. He’s a golem, if I read your description correctly, so he needs to look like a golem. He looks too natural/organic right now. Golems are constructs. I think you can deck him out in metal and armor pieces to make him a metal golem, as well as add some texture. Right now, the tights make him look like another muscle-bound superhero. I’d replace the assassin’s mask, samurai gloves, and biker boots with armored parts. Think lines and corners as opposed to curves. You’ve got a good color scheme, you just need the pieces to fit your concept (at least that’s how I’m interpreting it).

This is a tough one. It may take a day or two to make a decision.
  18. I can give you some notes/pointers if you want.

Citrus entries are posted here. Critique and new palette to come...
  19. @Space_Goat good background story. You do know it's not mandatory for the contest, right?

@Manoa feel free to post it when you get back. It just won't be in time to be judged.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
Use it as my Login Screen...Stands as one of my favorite screenshots still.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    How'd you do that??

Edited because i'm a 'tard and typed inside the quote tags...
  21. You forgot 1980's Supergirl from Crisis on Infinite Earths with the red headband.
  22. There will be another when you get back.
  23. Thanks, dd. Maybe people are having trouble with this palette like I did. It's hard to come up with something that isn' Ketchup & Mustard-man. But, it seems like the rest of you have done okay.
  24. Can someone explain to me the fascination with monkeys? Please?!
