Genius! I was also considering purpling out and hit that cap fairly quickly and was sad I wouldn't be gaining a benefit from all my sets, but that makes sense. Use the sets with redundant bonuses for frankenslotting.
-
Quote:The endurance reduction is something I have considered in the past. Ultimately rather than slotting for end reduction and moved my extra slots into stygian circle which I slotted for max heal/end/rech. I do a lot of downshifting to human as a consequence, but that gives me opportunities to drop sunless/unchain/dark extract. I slot drain for damage because I love to see enemies killed with the lobster Jedi soul suck move. But an end mod there makes more sense, gotta spam that against 8 players worth of enemies. That build looks quite good but I would make one sacrifice if you love Dwarf, though it is an expensive sacrifice!
I would drop the Obliteration set out of Black Dwarf Mire in favour of frankenslotting it for % rather than any set bonus'. I would also swap a slot from somewhere so you can 6 slot it and add the Armageddon proc!
The reason for this is that Black Dwarf Mire is an exceptional attack power that you want to spam as often as possible, but Obliteration doesn't have enough endurance reduction for my liking, and that proc is just amazing when fired against 10 targets every 5 or 6 seconds! (So if it is the only purple you ever buy it will be worth it!).
Edit: I would also swap the normal damage IO from Black Dwarf Drain into an endurance reduction IO. Your standard attack chain in Dwarf won't need the heal so you don't 'need' the damage, but when you do use that heal a lot it is very endurance heavy.
The proc is pretty tasty, and not nearly as expensive as other recipes in the same set. Does the proc damage multiply by your current damage modification from the mires? Because that would be boss.
As for your current slotting, I don't think I could justify not dropping at least 1 more Arma IO in there to get that 10% recharge rate, 10% is just so huge to miss by 1 slot. Also, oddly enough, the slotting you use doesn't have the proc at all? -
Here is the build I use on my main, she is tri-form, although in practice I spend 75% of my time in Dwarf, and the rest in human. I keep the Nova skills mainly because it provides a good slotting opportunity, and flexibility when the need arises. The LotG recharge IO's are obviously very expensive, but I worked up to them over time. The build as it stands is perma-eclipse with a 7 second overlap, and perma-hasten. It works awesome for me. Tough tank due to self heals, amazing AoE, great slotted pets, maxed Quasar and mires. I like a very strong stygian circle, so that I can benefit from casting even with fewer corpses, and a max eclipse to guarantee max resists with more than a few enemies about. The recharge rate is 178.5%. It was my focus, as recharge rate is king for a warshade of my play style.

Black Dwarf heal comes to around 379(that number stuck in my head) when slotted for it, which is a pretty tasty chunk of health. I originally slotted it like an attack first, with 5 crushing impacts and 1 heal IO, but after a while I realized that I have two perfectly good melee attacks in dwarf and one awesome AoE and so I switched the crushing impact out for touch of the nictus, except for neg damage proc, and a damage IO. Never looked back on that one, that heal is awesome, and with dual mires stacking up your to-hit and a few set accuracy bonuses it is always at a 95% chance to heal.
-
I went straight for a WS and actually abandoned her for about two months after I stalled out in leveling her at around level 35. I mostly attribute my failure to utilize her properly, particularly what people refer to as "clicky" powers to the temporary loss of intrest I had in her. After alot of advice from a good WS friend of mine and some searching on this forums I brought her back and she has become my primary character.
The common consensus here seems to be that the PB is better to take for your first go around, and I believe that's because there is less set-up involved, the PB functions well "out of the box" so to speak. -
I hadn't considered the effects of Cosmic Balance on the ability of a PB to tank, that is a good point. The ability of a PB to heal regardless of circumstance is sort of bleh to me, I either draw life from the enemies, or draw it from the defeated, both of which are present 99% of the time when I am taking damage.
Two of the self heals that the PB has require human form though, so to access them you have to exit dwarf, which without eclipse seems like a risky venture. Especially for the instant before you reactivate your toggle shields.
I believe my views are skewed by the fact that I mostly use my WS to solo levels that have been spawned with 8 players worth of enemies, and thus capping my damage and damage resistance is never an issue.
So, to get the thread back on track, the Warshade has the better DPS for team play. Even without a kin on a team of 4+ I can usually check my combat attributes at random and see that I am at my 300% damage cap. Combine that with a high recharge rate and dwarf mire actually is my biggest damage dealer, with fluffies, unchain essence, and double mired quasar making up the rest. Sunless mire isn't as much of a damage dealer, given smaller radius and lower damage than dwarf mire, but it is more focused as a buff anyways, given its longer duration.
My preliminary PB build dosen't look as promising in DPS or anything really at this point, but I am determined to make it work. Sort of pigeon holed myself into human form, because if I want triform, I go with my WS. -
I don't really see how the PB can be considered a more tanky class than the WS. I use a triform WS who has sadly and unintentionally become a triformer in skill and a dual form(dwarf/human) in practice. I am currently working on an all human PB because I don't consider dwarf strong enough on its own to stand up against the kind of tanking that my perma-eclipse WS's dwarf form frequently stands up to.
Best case scenario you can get 59% damage resistance out of a PB in dwarf, but thanks clicky goodness of eclipse with some +recharge you are looking at a constant 85% damage resistance. So a difference in 41% damage getting through and 15%. Which means that my WS takes nearly 1/3 the damage of the PB. The heal/health boost the PB has don't seem to make up for that discrepancy nearly enough. You can discount the heal all together thanks to stygian circle, so really, now you ask me would I rather have 30% more health or take 2/3 less damage? No contest. -
I created a new user, same name, mynewuser and modified the shortcut as you recommended. When I click the second shortcut I get a DOS popup asking for the user password, I didn't not set one and so I press enter, the DOS window closes and nothing happens.
-
Ah, being flooded here with good advice. Thank you so much guys. I will attempt JOAT's solution, and failing that Mateo's modified shortcut solution seems good as well.
Once again, thanks! -
Ah, got a few replies while writing my own. Thanks for the advice Joat, I will give that a try. I have never run multiple accounts on one computer at one time, but that seems like a viable solution.
-
After more experimenting with different file names and install paths the shared registry files started to seem more apparent. Thank you for the confirmation. The registry files would be the same regardless of which of my hard drives I installed it in. I have different versions of windows on each, but only run one of them. The registry file creation location would be dependent on the version of windows running, if I understand the situation right.
Still hopeless then. I am still open to advice, otherwise I may just have to develope a complex game starting sequence like: Start one copy in full screen, then select windowed mode(which only takes effect on restart of program) and then open the second one, which in theory should then start in windowed mode. I think that may get around the issue of changing from full to windowed requiring a restart. -
I use a dual screen and dual account set-up. Well, the dual account thing is new, and I am having some issues with it.
I did a separate install for the second account, I know it isn't required, but I had my reason:
Primarily I want the first copy to have it's own settings and be run at full screen/high graphics on monitor 1. I want the second copy to have its own settings and be run in windowed mode/low graphics on monitor 2.
Normal wisdom would dictate that having two separate short cuts on the desktop referring to the two separate CoH.exe files in two separate install folders would achieve this result. But the first thing I noticed is that the default CoH shortcut references directly to the updater, and that it is impossible to start CoH from with the CoH.exe itself. No big deal, just re-targeted the desktop shortcuts to their respective updater.
Run copy 1, wait for the game to load, run copy 2. Adjust settings on copy 2, things look good. Close copy 1, and then open it again, and suddenly copy 1 has the settings of copy 2. Completely different file folders and yet this CoHupdater.exe program refuses to stop crossing over to the same folder, copy 2. I deleted a random file in copy 2's folder. Then loaded copy 1's shortcut(which still links to copy 1's folder and exe's) and the updater re-downloaded the missing file(which was present in copy 1's file folder), which illustrates the point that the updater was crossing over to the other file folder against logic.
Anyone have this problem or does everyone out there like to run clone copies? -
I acknowledged the cost of the LoTG's are the end of my comments, my aim was to be able to put the rest of the build together for the initial budget, then work towards the them 1 at a time.
-
I had noticed that, usually I had about enough time to fire off 2-3 attacks before dropping back, probably not efficient, but still I like to. Dwarf just seems slow, which is part of why I stacked on so much recharge.
-
Oops, forgot to say why I posted:
I wanted some inputs/suggestions. This is largely guesswork. The main reason I am posting this is that the majority of the WS builds that I could find were purpled out and that is far above my price range. -
I've been playing this game for about a month now, having quit about two years ago when character creation and such seemed much easier. Anyways, I don't have a lot of inf to spend, about 300mil inf on hand, so I tried to put together a cheap somewhat modular(the ability to purchase parts at a time without gimping) WS build. The company line that gets thrown about is to build like you like to play, so I have a few focuses here besides cheapness:
I like to use dwarf mire and sunless mire to boost up nova damage. I "tank" sometimes in Dwarf if the team requires it. I like a double mired quasar. I want eclipse up as much of the time as possible so I am not afraid to shift out of dwarf. I like blowing up corpses as often as possible. I like a team of fluffies who have my back. Most of that is pretty obvious, towards the end I picked up health/stam just because I had accomplished all of my goals. Other than that I picked up utility skills. The human skills/toggles I took were just because I had to. I want Stygian Circle to be up whenever I need it. I don't really attack in human except for the above exceptions. I guess recharge speed is a pretty big thing, with those LotG recharges making up a lot of the cost, I'll buy them piecemeal.
Anyways, here it is:

Been waiting 45 minutes. Even went to the Rikti War Zone to try to provoke them, no dice.

My current main is a 50 SD/BA tanker. Per advise I read on the forums when I respecced at 50 I picked up Build-up so that I could slot it with Gaussian's Synchronized Fire Control for all positions defense granted at 6 pieces. I threw those in and never looked back. Build-up works so great as a minion killer on 8 player teams when dropped right before shield charge it is a no-brainer now for my future shieldies to also take the skill.
But as for the subject at hand: Today I was working on my Scrapper(BS/SD) and creating a similar build to my tanker when I ended up with a free slot. I had never given any ancillaries much thought save for Conserve Power(part theme issue, part personal choice) when I noticed Focused Accuracy on the Body pool. Putting the merrits of the skill aside(I like what the skill has to offer without a set IO in it) I noticed it would also take a Gaussian's set. The unique buildup proc in my current build is wasted as it is in the skill buildup already.
I have read up on IO procs and how they work with different sorts of powers but I wanted to ask here because the result in mids and what I read suggest are a bit strange. If you put the guassians build-up IO proc in focused accuracy(a toggle skill) do you receive buildup for as long as it is toggled on? Or does the buildup have the advertised 5% chance to go off each 10 seconds(duration) that focused accuracy is toggled on? Only when the power is first activated? Not at all?
