  1. This makes me angry, bitter and sad at the same time. I wish you the best of luck in future events though.

  5. Hrm.. *rubs chin* with a console version of CoH I wouldn't have to worry about the dialogue box popping up asking for "wut happened!?" when CoH crashes when I zone into Talos...
  6. Wow, this' a big thread. I don't know if I have time to check it all to see if it's been mentioned, but I thought I'd mention this. On Liberty, the past few nights about 3-4 am, I'd get one, and by the time I'd have the /ignore_spammer <username> typed out, I'd get a "<username> is not a valid username." Am I doing it wrong, or are they just getting sneakier and deleting the toons as soon as they send the tell?

Hrm, random thought.. would it be possible to create an option to block you from being seen by /search's done by trial accounts somehow?

I have an idea how bout just add another tray available to have out at one time simple solution

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ooh, tray talk! Since I haven't done the whole "randomly throw out there what you want" thing, I'll throw out something positively game breaking. Would it be possible to make it so you can change the insp tray from three rows of four columns to two columns of six? I think some PvPers'd love this, and I know I'd love this as a PvEr. If full player costumization of the UI isn't possible, then maybe just like.. the option to choose from different insp tray setups available?

  9. Hrm. When can we expect to see the first fully, expanded staff NC² additions to the game? Is the V-Day event going to be a Cryptic event or an NC² event? I love me some costume options, so I'd love to know if/when we might be getting some of those inbetween issue costume packs.

I mean I love the Jester and Enforcer sets, don't get me wrong, but that's all Jay, isn't it? When can we expect updates from Jay, Inc, the Jay and minions art supergroup?

I liked this guide a lot! One thing I would say though, is that sometimes I'll use a lot of these tips but in the form of self expression in addition to character expression, so my costume reflects how I feel or think combined with representing my character. Even though this can result in repetitive costumes I find it helps me enjoy my characters more.

I think something you should consider adding is a critique topic. You have very good design, and for those of us who like to look our best in game, it would be fun to have a place where we could get advice and discuss costumes.

I like the guide though! I hope it ends up in the guide to guides.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Tweaked for spelling and minor grammar out of respect for the Tsubugs. Also, because I suck at costumes whereas Tsu's awesome at them.
  12. *scratches his head* Are we sure that the Jump Jet actually adds to flight speed? Because from some testing today it didn't seem to add much to straight-line speed. If anything it slowed things because it smacked me into the cieling too quickly or I had to angle down or add other decelleration means to keep from hitting the cieling. Oh and.. here's my totally unscientific guide I just put together for my SG's forums and that's it.

So I did a bit of testing today on test. Damn near ruined Hellcat 3.9 respeccing him so much, but ah well, I can always copy Hellcat over again if need be. Basically, I tested out the travel powers for speed and such, trying my damndest to cap them out. Here's what I found, both speed and their usability in the game.

    [u]Running[u]

Build: 6 run in Super Speed, 6 run in Sprint, 3 run in Swift
Speed: ~38 seconds for 1 mile. Assuming it was topped out without a full 18 run enhancements, that would put running's top speed at about 110 mph.
Usability: Running around in a fairly player unoccupied Steel Canyon, overall there was a slight choppy feeling to it, but only a few instances of slight pausing. No overt Rubberbanding.
Feelings/Suggestions: Damn is it fun being fast. Now, I know they say they can't make fly any faster because it's 3d movement really pushes the boundaries of the hardware Cryptic uses, but maxing out run speed is where it's in general noticable the most. But most people don't put that many slots into run speed, so it's not that much of an issue. Just be careful in areas with unexplored areas, ie, around corners, since the game pauses a little in those spots. In theory this can be a hands-off power if you just hit run, but you rarely encounter an area that doesn't have obstacles of some sort.

    [u]Jumping[u]

Build: 6 jump in Super Jump, 6 jump in Hurdle
Speed: ~45 seconds for 1 mile. Assuming it was topped out with just the 12 enhancements, that'd put it at a top speed of about 80 mph.
Usability: Jumping around in a fairly player unoccupied Steel Canyon, there wasn't so much the overall effect that Super Speeding around did, but there were quite a few areas where Rubberbanding occurred. But sometimes that isn't necessarily a bad thing though, since when Rubberbanding happens while Super Jumping, all it does is drop you to a previous spot in your jump while keeping your momentum and movement going. IE, you can stretch a jump out, though you do often find yourself smacking into buildings you should've cleared because of it.
Feelings/Suggestions: Another fun travel power to use. Unfortunately with Super Jumping you don't even need to be close to having it maxed out in order for Rubberbanding to happen. I often get it on Live in populated zones with a toon that has at most 3 jumps in Super Jump and that's it. But overall relatively fast, awesome vertical movement but a hands-on travel power where you have to hit your jump key to keep it going, unless you set up a bind.

    [u]Flying[u]

Build: 6 fly in Flight, 6 fly in Swift
Speed: ~1 minute for 1 mile. Assuming it was topped out with just the 12 enhancements, that'd put it at a top speed of about 60 mph.
Usability: Flying around in a fairly player unoccupied Steel Canyon, I noticed next to no problems while changing direction, altitude, etc. The only time I had any trouble was when I flew up to the higher level from the lower level without the higher level already in sight. That caused slight Rubberbanding, but other than that there weren't any problems.
Feelings/Suggestions: Well.. ..as long as you're not going from Atlas to the Hive, you might not notice the incredibly crappy speed of Flight. Which sucks because it's really fun and superheroic and such, but eh. At least it's a perfect time go go and get a snack or something.

    [u]Teleporting[u]

    Build: 6 range in Teleport
Speed: ~30 seconds for 1 mile. Assuming there's no other way to top it out than just sticking range in it, that'd put it at a top speed of about 120 mph.
Usability: I didn't encounter any noticable lag or Rubberbanding using teleport.
Feelings/Suggestions: Insanely fast because of the range of each teleport and the fact that teleport doesn't have any recharge at all so you can que up the next teleport while your toon's showing the re-appearing animation. On the flip side though, it can be a real end hog, but you don't really sacrifice much swapping 3 range for 3 end, putting you at about 103 mph, second to only Super Speed with a fraction of the slots required. Also, you have to be careful when queing up your next teleport since if you do it too fast it can target your teleport to a point behind you and turn you around real fast. This comes with a few seconds of hover after each teleport, which's nice, but you still might want hover for teleporting distances in the air or if you run out of end. But that's just up to you if you want to do that or not.

[u]Running/Jumping Combo[u] (aka Super Bunny Hopping)

Build: 6 run in Super Speed, 6 run in Sprint, 3 run in Swift, 6 jump in Super Jump, 6 jump in Hurdle
Speed: ~41 seconds for 1 mile. Assuming both Run and Jump speed are maxed out, that'd put it at a top speed of about 88 mph.
Usability: I didn't really notice many problems performance wise.
Feelings/Suggestions: The best of both worlds! Basically by cutting your Super Jumps short, you don't lose momentum by going through the top half of the arc, so you still keep the Super Speed momentum plus you get slight momentum from the downward arc of the jump. It takes practice, but it's really handy because without the raw speed of just Super Speed or the overall 3d movement from Super Jump, you run into a lot less problems with the game's hardware so while you're not moving as fast as they might be, you still might get there faster than they are because they're Rubberbanding.

Note: These are all my opinions and rough estimates through as accurate testing as I could, so take this info however you want.

  15. You know, everyone could make their Mayhem Missions soooo much easier if they just downloaded the free Prima Guide here since it has maps of the Mayhem Missions on pages like 220 something that include key and side-mission location.

Just keep in mind the amount of side-missions varies on your level so lower levels give you less side-missions.

    [/ QUOTE ]

About half the time mine leave the police station, other half they vanish. Of course, they are often useless because they spend more time blowing up scenery than cops .
Maybe this is related to the bug where 1 mm henchman will become disconnected/uncontrolled when you move through a mayhem mission door?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think it might more likely be related to how long it used to take your henchmen to actually go through the doors in the mayhem missions.

Oh and if you ever go through a door and ALL your pets're gone from your pet display and none show up, just re-summon your tier 1. It'll pop up all of them again. Sadly, from what I can tell, this doesn't help with the random pets becoming uncontrollable (yet they still follow) and disappearing from the pet tab.

    Guide Help

Oh ye of yonder Player Guide section, I, but a humble peasant in your presence, doth ask for your assistance.

Now that my job's into it's slow period, I'm finding myself with an inordinate amount of free time and after reading the "Did you know...?" thread, I came upon a couple of ideas for Guides I'd like to compile. After perusing the Guide to Guides, I couldn't see anything like them, but the Guide section is 150+ pages with the number of posts per page I have my forums settings at, excluding really old posts that don't exist anymore, so I have no way of ultimately knowing if they already exist in some form or not.

So if either of these two ideas ring any bells about existing guides, by all means, please let me know.

And with that, onto my two Guide Ideas.

The History of CoH/V (or CoX)
I know there're guides for the history of Paragon and history of groups/heroes, but what about the actual game? I'd like to put together as comprehensive and objective a Guide as to how the game went from being a glimmering idea in someone's mind to the original promotional video to what it is today.

By far this' the most daunting of the two, as the game evolves a lot from issue to issue, let alone from it's base idea to what it is today. Like I said earlier, I want it to be as objective as possible, so if any devs decided to add input, I'd love to hear it.

I'll be going through the entire "Did you know..?" thread to help with this and if there's information in there that I absolutely have to have that I can't find elsewhere, I'll be asking for the poster's permission to use it. Here's what I could use from you guys to help fill in the gaps, though, and you can either reply here or send me a PM:

    1. Personal experiences/stories/memories, etc about the game. These can be either subjective or objective if you want. Just keep in mind though that since I'd like this to end up objective, I'll sort through the subjectiveness to get to the objectiveness and use those pieces to put together the Guide. All data will be used anonymously.
I'd insanely love it if I could get some Alpha/Beta/early users to contribute to this Guide to make it as thorough as possible.

    2. Links to any interviews, chat transcripts, etc, from the developers that can't be found by searching through the boards.

And secondly/lastly, my other Guide idea that again I don't know if it exists.

    The Guide to Red Names

This might be a tough one to do, since I'd essentially like to put together any non-intrusive information about the major Red Names on the forums as possible. What I'd ultimately love to do with this one is put together info from the various interviews then also ask the Red Names some questions of my own for the Guide. I'm perfectly willing to get the individual Red Name approval on the part about them before I post it, but that's why it'd be tough since that'd require my PM getting to them and them getting a chance to read it and then respond.

Again, if this also doesn't exist, here's what I'd love for help from you guys, and keep in mind I'll be looking on my own and not just making you guys do all the leg work:

    1. More interviews that can't be found referenced on the forums.

    2. Not to sound creepy, but any info you might have about a Red Name that you don't think they'd mind being shared. Keep in mind I do plan on passing this by the Red Names, so it's up to me and them to decide if you're telling the truth or if the information's appropriate to put into the Guide.
Examples of this would be: Ravenstorm being a fan of the anime Naruto and Statesman being a fan of Dr. Who.

Hmm, I may expand this to one to be Red Names and CoH/V Celebrities if I can worm some information out of David Nakiyama (CoH comic artist) and Troy Hickman (comic writer and writer of a story arc of the CoH comic), but let's see how well things go first before I get ambitious.

    Did you know...

During the early months of the Game there was a bug that spawned a 5th cloumn bad guy as a Desk. The Desk would yell NPC comments and attack and run etc.

    NO! DOOOOOOMMMM!!!!

    Did you know..

There you go, Saber. Fixed it for you!

(It's a reference to when Sabercat met the devs at a Frye's store one time and posted the pics. Between that and the excellent dev tracker of his from beta, lots of jokes came out of it.)

Did you know that the devs' posts were originally tracked by a separate program designed by Sabercat and the results had their own separate thread in the pre-beta and CoH beta forums? (Just trying to keep the post on-topic.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

    lol, thanks TK!

Well, this must be a "Certified Old School Thread" now. Poison and I posted back-to-back and somebody brought up the DevTracker!

    Here's a good one:

    Did you know....
that one of the Devs has a website containing a bunch of stuff including a blog and a webcam from his office at Cryptic?

(No, I won't tell you who it is or give out the URL so don't bother PMing me. Yes, I realize that means my "Did you know" can't be confirmed. No, I don't care. I don't want the poor guy spammed with "Hey, fix this bug!" blog comments! )

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Ooh! Along these same lines..

    Did you know..

...that despite what people say or ask, the devs actually do play the live version of the game on the servers?

...that (at least the one I know of, if not knowing personally) some PvP and while being good, aren't the uberness?

...that there's a big possibility that issues 1-6 were a test run for the game to see how it'd do in it's primary market of Asia?

...that now that the game's in Asia, unless it absolutely bombs there, there's no way the game's going anywhere?

...that in the CoV beta, you used to be able to abuse the newly designed Gladiator matches for insane xp, as they were giving out xp as if you were killing the gladiators? As in.. lvl 49 mobs, including enhancement and insp drops?

...that the devs took awhile to fix this, most likely due to a combination of creating the fix and that as a result of the bug, they ended up with more people being able to test the higher level content in CoV?

...that the greatest bug ever in the CoV beta was a toon ending up zoning in or something and ending up 500 feet tall?

...that Smartfilter (at least at my job) will block you access to the City of Villains site, but not the City of Heroes site?
  22. [ QUOTE ]
I like a number of the ideas you present. Many simply won't happen, for a variety of reasons, but some are quite doable. When I get out of my current mountain of work, I'll re-read this and try and implement some of it.

For those who have speculated that Newspaper missions are coming to City of Heroes, they aren’t…yet. That’s coming a little later in the year. I’d like to add something different to the CoH system…

    [/ QUOTE ]

As long as CoH-specific players have had to wait for some quality additions and content, I think you've about overdone that cute teaser bit. But that's just me. Start putting some real cards on the table please, Statesman.

    I'm a smidge upset, I admit.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Based on the fact that they went more indepth with their description of the graphics, I'd say they're updating the CoH graphics considerably compared to previous updates. How much time do you think that'd take? A week? I would laugh at you, then. In the most loving way, of course.

Now, for those that keep bringing up the seperate teams, etc, etc, they haven't said that since CoV's been released, as far as I know. Add onto that.. there's a new NCSoft or Cryptic (think it's actually Cryptic?) game that's in development that we've already seen devs in the dev digest say goodbye to other devs about as they go to work on the new game.
