  1. Blasters pretty much always need to worry about defense, in the sense of outside of Archery/ ROA you are going to take some significant damage from larger groups without it unless you are A. Well buffed or B. Have someone taking aggro for your shennanigans.

However, with IO's you can build up your defense so you don't *need* other players to unleash all of your AoE's.

As a note, since I think the player said they were sort of new. Different builds take different levels to mature. While a Fire blaster has its best AoE's by level 8, an archery blaster needs to wait until level 32.

As for cool downs, that is again a matter of slotting. Early on, you aren't likely to be able to run a fluid AoE chain until you can slot all your powers up. (As well get your end use under control)

What people suggested already (Combinations of Fire/ Rad/ Archery/ /Mental and /Fire) are pretty much the way to go for "Pure AoE"

I would say that 8v8 is about as fast a way to accumulate them as zone PvPing in RV, and I don't have the means to farm them :/.
Zone PvP with 2 - 3 coordinated people is many times faster than arena 8 v 8's for earning PvP IO's.

First off, say you have 2 hours to game, most likely more than half of that time is going to be sitting in Pocket D. Second, a lot of matches end up being one sided, or kills in general are low because matches are set for no HD. Additionally, most teams you don't cycle everyone, just a few players who are more apt to die.

When I used to spend more time in RV with a friend (@Trance) we'd dual stalk for a few hours and end up with 6-8 drops on a regular basis. Even on nights where we (WARE) practice for 2 - 3 hours and end up beating teams by 30 or 40 kills we are lucky to see 1 drop spread across the entire team.
  3. I've never really tried with an elec tank, I doubt you'll be able to hit the hard cap but you can definitely build for a signifcant chunk of +HP. Most PvP Controllers/Defenders get around +37% HP from IO's and another 20% from accolades.

You can always "Build" for HP, it just becomes a matter of what you need to sarifice to get it.

1.5 is about the middle of the road bonus. You have .75 1.19 1.5 1.88 2.25 and 3% as far as HP bonuses go. I think tanks can only slot 3 x 3 % bonuses (as they only exist in the purple ranged set and purple pet set) but if you were to cap out all your bonuses you end up with +55% HP (Note, only 3, 3% Bonuses were used) and another 20% from accolades. Given how high elec's resists are along with how much regen it can possibly have its definitely worth looking into getting some HP bonuses.

    sirens call

You are better off getting to 50 and slotting level 33 IO's.

Sirens Call is level 30 cap, but the way exemps work now is you keep +5 levels worth of powers. Additionally, power slots don't follow the exemplar system. Easy way to test this is exemp down to level 1 with a 6 slotted power and if you have an IO set in it, you'll still see it enhanced for everything you enhanced it for, though the %'s will be smaller.

Finally, if you are a villain, the patron/epic pools now unlock at 35 and you can pick the tier 1 or 2 power I believe.

Freedom is pretty much the only server with active PvP though most of it seems to take place in RV, couldn't tell you for sure how much is in SC.

If you had to actually "aim" your powers to get them to hit all while running around at 92 MPH and jumping over buildings, I'm pretty sure CoH would be the greatest PvP game ever. Blaze head shots ftw!

Its a miracle anyone died really. There were so many snipe calls like 3 seconds after the spike lol. That and the only time I think we targeted him was when I was off target and randomly threw damage at him as he AP'ed. Good times, I also have the one where you guys ran 1 rad 1 mind/fire and 2 blasters against us and managed to have two of us dead at the same time on several occasions.
  8. Its not all that great, AMD X3 2.8ghz, 4 gigs ddr 3, nvidia 250 gts card.

I watched the first few minutes of the video, it was definitely a good showcase for the Earth/Fire lineup being played extremely well, but I typically get sort of bored watching matches that are that onesided. :P
I don't know many people that use it for some reason, but yeah its quality I think is much better. You can do it in HD, but this is a random one I had at medium settings (in wegame) and Reccommended settings in CoH, from the most recent attempt at a test ladder. Of course however the audio is set up, it records vent along with the sound effects.

    Yes we did really bad.
  10. I'm a big fan of making self rez'es useful when you aren't dead and having them act as a mini "overdrive" type power.

Like if Rise of The Phoenix could be used while alive, it'd give you the damage blast, stun, and maybe toss in a 30 - 40% damage boost to fit in with the theme of fire. (If used while alive)

Soul Transfer used while alive could be a + Max HP +Max end from sucking up those souls, in addition to the massive stun and minor damage.

For regen, especially if it was ported to tanks, revive could give you a +resist to all (but psi probably, or at least just S/L) for every foe in range.

Slap it on a 300/60 or 300/45 timer and you make self rez powers awesome.

Aside from that, I think the best bet for making Regen into a tank set would be a Rise to the Challenge clone somewhere in there, where instead of regen, you got scaling resists.

    See you guys tonight.
You can always use /demorecord "name" to watch stuff afterward, only it doesn't show you the UI when viewing it. ("Name" being the file name you want to call it without the " " )

I also used wegame for a while and didn't notice any signficant FPS drop while using it.
  12. The heal speed against those spikes comming in was pretty amazing and watching the movement of our doms was definitely fun.
  13. Yeah forgot to post in here, sold and all that good stuff. :P

    Thanks for the replies!
  14. I enjoyed seeing something other than a straight jump lineup to go against last night. However, the way it was played made me (and I'm sure others) think it was just there to stall and keep kills down, rather than actually try to win. The comments about WARE putting up less kills against FAP than any other team sort of cemented that idea for us, that, that was the only goal of bringing it. (That and the stalker being out of hide for probably 8 minutes of the match and landing one AS on me then no longer really trying after that.)

The biggest thing that got me was, if you were going to try and turtle? Why not use one of the rooms that tech lab offers. There are at least 2 or 3 spots in the room with the small set of stairs, and as far as Atlas went? If you guys would have taken the globe we'd have had a match on our hands, at least having to really work for that first kill.

At any rate, I tend to believe what Smoke said about the intentions of last night, so on that note good matches, they were fun to see something different even if they weren't executed all that well. (Honestly not intended as a slight, I'm from dUmb, we tossed stuff together all the time for match night and saw how it worked. Poorly usually.)
  15. This thread drifted off the first page, we need to get people excited for tonight's matches. WOooooo!

I really don't know how you are feeling, as psychology nor the liberal arts was never really my thing. I was more of a business person myself, with that comes some basic reasoning and math skills thankfully. Let me illustrate.

1 person puts down others to try and make themselves feel better/blow off steam.

If putting down 1 person adds a qualitative amount of "Feel better about myself" to the aggressor, attacking a small group with N+1 people in it should only serve to boost the effect. Whether it is additive or multiplicative, who really knows.

Trying to belittle a large community, like say those either learning or working in the liberal arts would surely produce an greater effect, but you'd likely be looking at curve with an upper limit.

Now you said you do this to blow off steam, pretty much suggesting that if you don't do it, your quality of life will suffer. The more people you insult, the better you feel. So that would mean there is a correlation between the number of people you are trying to insult and how miserable your life much really be.

    You're welcome.
  17. Wow. In the time I took to post that, two other people chimed in to pretty much say the same thing?

Your statement might have actually held water if you didn't try to gloss over yellow's behavior as "Not all that bad" while trying to turn it back on not just the vocal members of WARE.gov, but the group as a whole.

I can only guess this is a last ditch effort to gain some footing back after the verbal thrashing you brought on yourself by taking shots at our guild portal site.

Saying "You mad" is something overused by this and I'm sure other online communities, but in this instance I think its hard to find a better sentiment. Your team lost some matches, so you start looking for other places to win something back, be it in aesthetics, art, a persons profession or whatever thread you have popped into following one of our members posts.

I regret to inform you, you won't find the win you were looking for in this thread.

It's a video game, it's not IRL I'm not trying to make friends or win a popularity contest and I certaintly don't try to build psychological profiles of people over the internet.

    Cyber-bullying:

Cyber-bullying involves the use of information and communication technologies to support deliberate, repeated, and hostile behavior by an individual or group, that is intended to harm others.

It doesn't take a psychological profile or even a lot of thought to recognize the behavior your are striving to be so proud of points to a person with some sort of social deficiency. When it comes down to it, you openly admit that in order to "blow off steam" you put other people down.

Since you've already showed dismissive tendencies when someone tries to approach you about it, perhaps you or a family member could put me in touch with your primary care physician and we can see about getting you the help you need to lead a more healthy, well adjusted life style.

I'd imagine they'd want a hobby that doesn't reflect the poor quality of their life outside of a video game. d;D

Playing video games is one thing, trying to be an jackass to as many people as possible in them just hints at a very sad person behind the keyboard looking to lash out at the world they feel in some way has wronged them.
  21. Honestly, I'm not sure. The friend who told me sold a few of his for 2 billion a pop and that was their offer not his price. Because the Rikti Mentalist is available in the store now for 6$ worth of points I'm going to say I'd start a good bit lower than that.

From what I've seen in game, 6 or 7 dollars usually nets you a billion influence if you do something you aren't supposed too, so we'll round down and say 800 million to start on the rikti mentalist.

The KOA I'm going to start at 1.5 billion.

Since there are a few interested, I'm going to end this Saturday afternoon/evening.
  22. I tried it with another team in the last league and it just didn't work against the other competitive team there running a standard jump lineup. (the Earth/Fire lineup) So its far from the "I win" lineup that it may come off as in this league. It has a lot of potential if your team can keep the pace going, but it also has much more of a chance of the target getting away with 25-50% HP with very little follow up to finish them off. Where as Psi/Em's have a lower ceiling because of the slow nature of the spikes, but they are also much more forgiving with 4 attacks with range up near 150, and delayed damage to create a mini spike with the attacks.

Tossing in a well timed mez will make sure that if the target doesn't die to the initial damage portion, you can catch them limping away as the Psi/EM's continue to blast away with their long range attacks.

While the easy answer is "Just go with Psi/Em" I feel like if a new team coming into things had to actually learn to close for a 50 foot blaze on the target (On say, Eden) , they'd be much better playing a blaster if they needed too. Success however, may come much slower if you go this route.
  23. So basically I've won these in some PvP tourney's over the years and never did anything with them. A friend pointed out they could be sold, so here we go.

Currently I have a Knives of Artemis Code and a Rikti Mentalist (which I think goes for 480 points on the Paragon Market ATM).

Hit me with a PM if you'd be interested in trading some influence for them.

I hear Klesk is a bad emp because he doesn't have his alpha slotted and his build is terrible. Lucky for him he ran into a zone emp who helped him out and he's a lot better now!
