Well, as someone once pointed out, the web, Wiki-pedia in particular, are excellent for reading up on continuity and answering question for things you've missed.
Crisis was the first company wide comic event and lead to a continuity restructuring (Which DC pretty much did again last year with Flashpoint and the New 52). Marvel has never really done a continuity restructuring like that (Although the rumour is that is coming up). They have done company wide crossovers with consequences abound, but never a wholesale reboot (I did like Crisis and what they were trying to do, sadly some of the follow ups led to inconsistencies, but that's another story. The "New 52" feels like a big marketing ploy and I really haven't been happy with most of the results since)
I believe Marvel's first "Crisis Like" multi crossover event was the 1980s (85? 86?) Secret Wars. If you haven't read it, then you would probably enjoy it. They followed it up with Secret Wars 2, which wasn't as good.
Personally I liked a lot of the 80s and early 90s stuff, and for my money, the Infinity Guantlet (And they just re-released "Thanos Quest, which was a set up for that) is probably one of the best Marvel Crossover events.
Personally I've been a big hulk fan (look back to issue 300ish, once Peter David is writing on the book (320s?? till 425) the storylines and humor are top notch) and would highly recommend those (Although in the late 90s and on things have been hit and miss).
I'm also a big spidey fan, Loved the 80s and early 90s, hated a lot of the stuff that would lead to "The Clone Saga" (If you're buying up old books I recommend giving those a miss and just using wiki or other places to catch up with the story)
Check here for what you missed http://lifeofreillyarchives.blogspot.ca/
Some other sites you might want to check out.
http://www.comics101.com/archives/co...1/archives.php Excellent articles on various comic events, history etc.
Also a lot of people seem to enjoy the "Ultimate" line. Its an alternate universe that started about 10 years ago, so you could probably get most of the important stories without breaking the bank. On top of which they killed off the Ultimate Peter Parker last year so a brand new Spidey there.
Hope some of this helps. -

-They dress their character in a reasonable way (I'm tired of female characters with minimal clothing. There's millions of options, use them!)

Amen brother!

My SG mates joke that they can tell I'm a RL female because my toons actually wear clothes! My main's primary costume is a full set of metal armor with helmet and goggles. I do have one skimpy "evening outfit" but that's for when I'm teaming with my RL husband!

Its funny, I'm a guy, and I have both male and female toons, and all of them (I like to think) are dressed appropriately.
I agree totally, sometimes I look around and THink rather than city of heroes it should be City of Harlots.
In fact I tried to make a casual costume for my lvl 35 scrapper (at lvl 30 I had made her 3rd outfit a black steath thing that looked horrible, but hadn't bothered to fix it for a while) you know civvies, and actually decided to go for a cheap and trashy look, instead I ended up with a Skirt and Full on sweater (Almost a Schoolgirl type look. Fairly conservative, tasteful). My girlfreind laughed at me when I told her I spent 25 mins playing with the costume, and now I can never comment on her trying on clothes herself
About a month ago, I changed the main costume from being a mettalic top (Which covers up to the neck) to the Leather Corset...the most skin my Char shows. (Of the three costumes It is the only only one that shows cleavage, and there's a cape as well)
As for the whole gender thing.
If I see a female toon, I talk to the toon, since that is what I am seeing, not to the player. I refer to her as a she. If the player doesn't like it, then I'll adjust accordingly, but why make a female toon if you're a guy and you get bent out of shape by being called a she? In guy speak, that's like wearing a Buffalo Bills Shirt, when You're really a Cowboy's Fan, then when People say "Go Bills" you want to tell them where to go.
People call me "She" when I play a female char, and that's fine with me.
In fact once, while in PP, I teamed up with a couple (Forgot their char names). She had a female toon, and he had a male one. He was far off in Steel, so me (In my female Guise) and her were waiting for him before hunting. WELL, we started going on and on about how none of the PP stores were open and how they didn't have any good shoes (To kill time, we were going up to windows and yelling Got any shoes for sale??? As well as discussing types of shoes we'd like and stuff (Limited detail as, I may play a female character but my little Male Brain has limited capacity for fashion). The importance of buying shoes when shopping...is a trait my girl has and I incorporated into that session. Me and the Woman were having a gas, and her Husband was laughing as well, saying he thought I really was a girl, or at least "Confused".
If anyone asks, I always admit my true gender, although usually my speech is a dead give away. (Not that I'm crude, but I think I usually come across as a guy)
As for why a guy would want to play a female char....
Why not?
SOme of my character concepts just fit female (in my mind) better.
To each there own...so long as you're having fun... -
Yeah, personal choice.
I actually have an Empathy/Psychic Defender on Champion, Infinity Joe. I Been having a lot of fun with him lately. I go in preparing to be a healer, but I been on some good teams so I spend just as much time on offense. I didn't want to take Empathy again (I hate to duplicate powers)
FF was tempting, and I hope to do one such build sometime, but I choose to go with RAD/RAD.
Nova Element is the name. (If you read his Bio it...still don't make a heck of a lot of sense, but it seems like as good a name as an to me at the moment)
I built him, I clothed him (That was a good hour right there. Now watch everyone laugh at me "That took you an hour?") and I ran him through the Tutorial, but didn't exit it, so if we can coordinate a time to all go on, then we can earn that first badge.

Hey X...don't hold your breath on teh GM.
I had a mission the other night like that, I sent the petition at 12:40 AM, and I got email the next day informing me the GM was looking for me at 2:30 PM the next day.
They must be pretty backed up.
I think I'm good with a Defender (Unless someone else has a Defender Build they REALLY want to use)....I'm still torn between Rad or FF as primary (The Rad powers intrigue me, and I've been on the recieving end of FF powers enough to appreciate their usefulness)
Later all. -
Hey, I'm interested (If you're still accepting).
What's one more character to my Menagerie
What Archtypes are still available for your core team?
Anyone got a preference? (i'm torn between making a brand new char with powers I never tried yet, or just using a char I already created on another server and starting him/her here)
I'm thinking I prefer Defender but I'm pretty flexible. -

Those are ambush leftovers.. so might've been that a higher-level hero had a mission in Kings Row or so and, upon exiting the mission a group of monsters appeared which the hero either missed or ran away from. Missed. Not that heroes would run away from stuff.

Well I know that most of the time, unless I know, or suspect an ambush is coming, as soon as I'm out of a mission I usually head to a contact or to buy/sell enh. With a superspeedster, the ambushers have no hope of catching me.
Especially if on a TF as soon as one mission is done, we usually move, top speed to the next.
Hopefully I've never left anyone in the lurch, but if I have...sorry.
As for the event, I eagerly await to see what will occur.
My vote is tonight, or tomorrow.
