Quote:Ok.Do you really live by that logic? Yesterday, I didn't have a cold. Today, I have a cold and the news says workers in Greece are on strike. Therefore, the strike caused my cold. Yesterday, I ate cereal for breakfast and my cat was at home. Today I ate eggs and bacon and my cat ran away. Therefore, eggs and bacon makes cats run away. Yesterday I didn't have a spot on my chin and I watched Evil Dead before I went to bed. Today I woke up with a spot on my chin. Therefore, Evil Dead causes acne.
If you seriously live your life by that logic, you must be in a state of constant confusion.
What I have learned as a slot technician of 5 1/2 years:
Heat is your machines 2nd worst enemy. your computers primary #1 enemy is cigarette smoke. If you are a smoker and you smoke anywhere near your computer you can hang it up. Nicotine will coat all of your sensitive connections and make it impossible for your hard drive to function correctly.
back to our second worst enemy.
heat.
What I have learned from being a slot technician for 5 1/2 years: Heat can and will cause read/write errors on a hard drive thus corrupting information communicated. I have read many an email from slot techs in regaurds to this heat related failure on many a computer component. Slot machines are computers. Not only that but they have numerous computers connected to them at all times <duh>. Very often when checking the system we would see numbers that say "this machine isn't talking" and thus have to perform surgery. I have reloaded so many hard drives in slot machines because those mainboards would overheat and start to hiccup with the data transfer rate. they try to read something and it misreads and poof. Slot machines are weird. They keep all the hard drives and video cards completely separate from the mainboards. The mainboards are often seen in a heavily shielded heavily locked down metal-box-with-no-vents... and they would ALWAYS break down due to read write errors on the hard drive that was in a more ventilated often cooler part of the slot machine.
In short, heat was a factor in read/process/write errors. With all the hard drive controllers on the mainboard...That's a possible culprit. So is the cigarette smoke. That is my fractured logic, I'm sticking to it and I'm waiting for a response so that we can help TROUBLESHOOT this problem.
What I think might have happened: i17 was loaded, something DID get hot and fractured a driver SOMEWHERE...
reformatting and reloading everything MIGHT fix the problem unless it is smoke damage,
in the case of smoke damage- time for a new laptop, sorry.
btw did I mention I was a slot tech for 5 1/2 years? That might also be one reason I don't make much sense. Lets see if we can attack this problem with an open mind. I'm not the kind of guy that gets upset when I'm wrong.
oh look a penny!
edit: my bad, in my earlier post, when I said "simple" what I meant was "Everything I just said in THIS post" you people must hate me now. -
Quote:Had everybody and their brother it would seem check my system and run tests, all came up good, only time it started a heat problem was with loading up the spanking new and wonderful I17 with "Optional" UM.
I have Insisted it Had to be my laptop and they had to find the problem with my laptop because Support Insists I17 has nothing to do with it and UM is Optional and will not effect normal game play at all.
Question from each and every Tech "Your system checks out and is running fine and is not hot at all, When did your problem start happening"? , my answer "After I17 went live but Support and Fab on Forums Assure me IT Has to be My system and the Optional Ultra Mode has nothing to do with it.............it's just a coincidence it happen at the exact same moment I17 went live", each and every tech "...........rigghhhtttt."
> lol
I don't care what anyone says. Its i17.
simple math=
works before i17
doesn't work after i17
problem is i17.
simple.
My question to you, have you been involved with the test server? I'm asking to see if you had problems there as well might lead to a driver corruption somewhere that could only be fixed by a format/reinstall -

Quote:Here's another one for ya'll since I didn't see it said yet.
Don't bother doing a Dr. Kahn. On the final mission Reichsman stays in his "god mode" no matter what you do. (yes we thoroughly tested this)
Here's what I got when I reported THAT:
"An Arch-villain or Hero is intended to be a very difficult enemy to defeat and take longer to defeat than normal bosses. In most situations, a team will be needed to defeat an Arch-villain or Hero of the same level. At this time, all Arch-villains and Heroes in the game are working as designed. We strongly recommend going to the forums as there is wealth of player based knowledge on the best strategies for Arch-villains and Heroes."
........ Oh Frackin' really.
I won't quote myself from my page long response, but I will summarize:
1. Hi, I've been playing this awhile and I kinda know how stuff works thanks.
2. You're an idiot.
Several issues where I have dealt with tech support via petitions leads me to believe that tech support doesn't know English very well. I think it might be someone on the other end that is reading english well enough to the point that he/she/it can reply a very limited FAQ type response.
usually it winds up with said support "escalating your petition to a Senior Customer Support Representative to further assist you" or better yet... hey boss can you translate this? -
Quote:I cant really remember an issue where there wasn't a bunch of bugs.This. Yeah the issue is a little under cooked but they obviously wanted to release it on the 6th anniversary. But to be fair, while this issue might be a bit buggier than usual, previous releases usually take a good 2-3 weeks to settle down after a few post-issue patches.
Also remember a large chunk of the team is working on Going Rogue, which could explain why things are taking longer to fix than usual.
I'm not trying to make excuses for the dev team, just trying to put things in some kind of perspective.
Just look at it this way, If your picnic has bugs that's a sign that the food is good! -
Quote:I am going to go hide in my base. The market being down was bad enough; especially as it seems these were problems which were reported in closed beta. But now we have no globals either?
Admittedly I've only been playing 21 months but the pre-release quality control seems to get worse every issue.
To mess up this badly is absolutely shoddy but to do it when it should be a flagship 6th anniversary release is just unexcusable.
Why pay people to do a quality control function when they clearly aren't doing their jobs. Fire them and hire new people, please. In this economic climate, it shouldn't be difficult to find people better than the ones you have.
It's such a shame that so much effort goes into concepts and then coding and it is all just let down by the quality checking. It's like finding your favourite supercar, looks georgeous, has all the toys you could want but someone put in an engine from a Model T ford. One which doesn't work.
EDIT
Oh yes, and what happened to the promised "fix" to AE so that arcs with items to be destroyed or captives to be rescued (not fight/buff) were not penalized? Promised here for i17 or just after. Well that's now. So how much longer do we have to wait? Or wasn't this ever a promise that was going to be kept?
Ciao. -
so for this weekend...
no globals: <No teaming for me>
no email: <No slotting of enh I already crafted and mailed>
no market: <No buying salvage to craft replacement IO's>
Hrmph!
Guess I will go build more labyrinth then :3 -
Quote:QQ WhYAREYOUSOMEANTOPETSIHATEYOU! QQFYI... The Vet Reward Buff Pet is so fragile, that if your toon sneezes, it will die. If there is a strong gust of wind in Faultline, it will die. If you ask the pet to "keep an eye out for trouble" as you enter City Hall to pay your Base Upkeep, it will die. If you tell your pet that WWs will be down all weekend, it will die. If two vets cast their pets and the pets see eachother, they both die. If you think your pet is cute, and you give it a gentle pat on the head, a pinch on the cheek, or some ice cream, it will die. As you read this post on the forums, your Vet Reward Buff Pet is slowly dying inside.
This is nothing new. I have long since stopped casting it, because there is no use in having something that "buffs" you, if it's not going to stay up when you get within 1,000 yards of an enemy. The buff the pet gives is already laughable. The amount of time you have to spend in-game re-casting it because "it died" just adds to the laughter.
So, don't be suprised if you notice your pet died because you zoned.
It's just what they do.
"Alien"
joke, that was hilarious -
I crafted some basic IO's and a few winter IO's stored for the next level I was about to reach.
I log in just a while ago and all my mail is gone.
Anyone else missing emails as well? -
Quote:everything is an opportunity. this was one not to be missed.I played lagfest on virtue and I was utterly disappointed. I have a high end computer with a liquid cooling system, quad core, GTX 260 vid card, 2gb ram, etc... I could barely move. The only relief was when the devs decided to announce that FP were showing up in multiple zones. I decided to go to Grandville and there were so few people there we had to ask for help on global channels. Unfortunately, this only happened once. It would have been much better if the entire event was spread out over multiple zones so that we wouldn't have had to deal with all of that lag. I crashed at least 5 times. When I wasn't crashing I was busy waiting 10 minutes for my powers to go off. If this is the face of things to come then maybe it's time to think about moving on. I am sorely disappointed.
P.S. I had planned on getting a 2nd account next week. Now I'm rethinking that decision.
I was there, probably with you somewhere...
I had the opportunity to crack one joke before it perma crashed me.
also: a zone seems to be "broken" from this event... on Virtue, Sharkhead has unexplainable server latency. A few people were complaining about constant mapserving. -
Quote:Learning from mistakes is the most valuable super power our dev team has. Lets help develop that super power by forgiving more often.I was playing when COV (also a beta tester)came out and i also bought the two manuals that were avail then.
In the printed manual ,which i assume went to press long before COV was release, there was a statement printed in it that you got 2 extra slots if you had both COH and COV.
I "think" that due to the forum riots when ED was leaked by a beta tester, and the 1000+ postings on the matter, that the poor forum mod, had to not answer, and see all the hate and anger, yet had to say nothing ,as they were not expecting. they gave us 4 slots.
just a few days before there were hundreds of posts thank them for NOT raising the monthly fee,if you had both games. -
Quote:I'm with you on this.Yes but it was stupid, the definition of stupid to have a Q&A with things that we already knew from other interviews and common sense.
Frankly I could care less if the Dev Team likes Vodka, it has nothing to do with the game or other questions like what non-COX characters do the Devs like, etc...
Those were questions that shouldn't have been asked for something like this.
Plus, if Marketing wasn't going to let them answer any of the hardball questions, then why did they even have a Q&A at all.
It was pointless.
Before this Q and A thing took place , I saw where it was going. When Castle nudged me on one of my posts, Pointing towards my being wrong, My first instinct was to gather information and make another "point", but if I did THAT <again>, then not only would we have lost Castle on this issue, he probably would have put me on ignore, turned off his pm's: Leaving us without a sympathetic ear. The better idea was to meet this effort and participate, I don't mind being wrong. I was in fact, hoping that I WAS wrong. So I participated and I was disappointed just like many others that were asking the SAME questions about bases. I stayed on that forum and followed it every minute of the day. I gave it my best effort. The results are frustrating as I knew they would be.
Becoming hot headed just means you are passionate about what you do. Its a good thing, but posting while in this state of frustration is not. I had to get up walk away <for two days> and cool off before I started playing.
Negative attitudes are contagious! nobody was going to catch MINE.
My advice is, cool off before posting. Lets not start the name calling thing, or our points will be missed AGAIN. The outcome and whats to follow are going to be heavily influenced by our behavior. Lets groom this situation in a positive manner. This isn't over.
In the end this Q/A wasn't useless.
We have a few devs here, reading our posts, interacting with us. That means they care! It's impossible to miss how important bases are to us. We need to make the most of this by being polite, keeping the communication open, and keeping them interested! I'm sure more information about bases will result as I'm certain they will bring this up to the rest of the team.
I'm anxious to see what happens next! -
Castle, you see us here, you see how passionate we are about bases. I can understand if you or anyone isn't allowed to disclose information. I also appreciate you interacting with us on this level, it shows you really care. That's what we need most right now is someone that cares.
I beseech you to approach your fellow team members. Even if they cant talk about anything base related, Let them know we exist! -

Frequently, there are things asked that we didn't prep for or that aren't on the 'bullet list' of things to cover that we are happy to answer. Things that were small, easy fixes or changes for us, but can have a big impact on gameplay for you, might be forgotten to talk about unless asked. -
Castle
Thank you for your time.
I greatly appreciate you interacting with us. -
What plans for bases /editing tools are there?
-

you.
say.
so. -
lets test this with bases, lets see if different server teamies can visit sg's <tp's and touring>
edit: Nevermind -
I hear new base editing tools are carrot flavored... is that true?
-
ok. one of my questions then:
Will we see any "City of" advertisements on national television any time soon? -
-
*perks ears up*
*twitches tail*
*takes notice that thing is about to happen*

Quote:I would like for them to use the forums. Why even promote this???
The devs don't answer questions and give fluff statements and turn to marketing for their closed lips.
If for once they can answer a legitimate PVP question or address bug fixes...perhaps it will not be a waste of time.
We already all know there's gonna be precanned answers for:
Incarnate system.
Side switching specifics.
New Powers on slate.
The next batch of proliferation.
PVP
PVP zones
PVP mini-games
PVP bug fixes
PVP drops
Bases
And who's idea is to hold it on a facebook page? Black Pebble? Why on facebook? Do you think everyone wants to be on facebook?
Like someone else said you have forums. USE THEM.
I would like to know something about bases.
I would like the answers to be clear. <its not like some other game is going to steal the idea for sg bases> -
I wish this buffbot thing would have never happened.
no, not because of the exploits,
not because of the missions it ruined,
I wish it never happened because I don't like seeing people go at each other like they have been. That is old behavior that I used to be involved in, I don't like seeing others do it and its unhealthy.
Everyone who sits perched ready to judge others or revel in their misery are no better than the exploit itself.
Stop it. You people <ALL you people> Are better than this!
Rise above!
edit: now kiss and make up!
