OverAll, so far, my feeling is that the new forums have more complicsted ways to do [i]less[/] useful stuff than the old forums could whilst adding a load of pointless fripperies (reputation?).

Quote:the reason im asking is cos i was thinking of maybe trying to organise a meet, and the closest players to me in warsaw would be the german players. And i dont speak German.Don't think this has been officially fleshed out, but I don't think there's currently any rule against it.
I'd consider it pretty bad form though...

The new forums are much slower to run on my iPhone. Can they be optimized somehow for mobile access?

But hey, if the art guys can pull it off, sure.
The cigarette sounds good, but if we are going to have alternatives to the cigar, then there would hopefully be not only the cigarette dangling from the lip option, but also the option of one in a cigarette holder, like FDR or women in old movies used to use.

In between RL stuff and my review runs, i sometimes play random arcs from players I domt know from Adam. Sometimes I'll play a decidedly average arc thats got a story, customs, filled out bios and system message fields etc, but it just isnt very good, doesnt make sense, is apparently a Mary Sue or something. If im playing one of these random, 'meh' arcs, and its got say. 3-star average, ill sometimes give it 5-stars, purely because i like to think of sb logging in, checking his arc, and smiling at seeing the 25 tickets.

Am I allowed to post in English on the German forums, for example?

Are you referring to me? Under the old forums, I could see 're;MrCaptainMan' or whatever; now it just has a re to the thread title
I have the NA appended to my name because when the EU game launched I tried it for a month to see if I wanted to switch over (I'm British, live in Poland, so I wondered if the timezone thing was worth switching). I, er, didn't find enough on the EU servers to make me switch.
But - my old EU handle is still in their database it seems lol.

Quote:Forse, the NA community ISN'T persecuting the EU community. The Lounge was actually something that was asked for by US, the EU community so that we weren't drowned out by the multitude of voices and could remain our own unique little community where almost all the people who posted on the EU boards knew everyone else.
This is one of the reasons I'm heartily glad I don't live in Blighty any more. SAdly, the wonderful British individualness of character has a damaged flipside IMO. Our island status has left us with a societal fear of integration.
Being worried about getting 'lost' in the tired, poor huddled masses of Americans on these forums is IMO ridiculous.
That said, I do think that it was unfortunate (but probably inevitable) that there wasn't a stronger effort from the Devs or the mods to make it clear that either both communities were moving to a completely new forums, to do away with any 'we're getting new wallpaper in OUR forum, and they're coming to join us!' posts from either side, or to make it clear that the European forums were being shut down and the Europeans were moving to join the NA ones. The latter is of course how the US posters see it, and the forum titles and structure does support that.

Quote:I think that's an example of what he's getting annoyed with. Technically, 'here' isn't the old NA forums. Unfortunately for domw, as you point out, these 'new' forums do basically look like the old NA ones with an annex added for the Europeans.Hate on it if you want, but to most NA forumites, this is going to feel like you were transplanted into our forums. Sorry that offends you or that we have our own American or Canadian ways of expressing the jostling as we all shift and make room for the new neighbors. When you've contributed around here the way that LadySadako has or developed the annoying-yet-strangely-lovable rep of GoldenGirl or earned a rep for thoughtful commentary like SamuelTow or just become a regular and positive participant like any of the other Brits, Aussies, and other non-NA forumites who have lived here for years, then we'll consider you family and ease off on the razzing.

And a shelf unit with the every Doctor Who adventure currently available in the best format it's currently available in.
And something to watch them on, of course.
Ooh! I've just had an idea for a new thread!

Quote:I know I'm the (EDIT - Id**t is blocked by the forum censor. I wonder if knob is? No, lol, it isn't!)So..ahem...I know I'm the KNOB who posted it in the first place, and part of me does wish it didn't exist in the first place, but now it's here, i can see that 'please ignore it' is a massively dunderheaded thing to call for lol, and I actually sort of like that there is a forum designated for the Brits (and other English speaking Europeans). It could even be looked at as something that 'we' have that the Americans dont. City life is for every English speaking nationaloty. it's not a US forum. The Germans have their own forum, the French have their own forum, we Brits have our own forum. The Americans have to shareI approve of this thread, since it puts it better than I ever could.
That's the merge part, not the booze part.
I'd rather this forum never existed, but now it does. And I don't have a suggestion for what to do with it.
The whole "EU Only Issues" thing is probably only going to ever amount to a couple of threads. I see the attraction, but I think it'll leave this place a ghost town.
If the yanks had their own forum for 'US-Only Issues' in addition to the City Life one, that would be fairer on them.
Hating the new smileys, btw.

PS Tongue in cheek, all of that. We all know that this wasn't a server merge, was it? It was a server aquisition. -
Quote:A few times I (a brit) have been mildly surprised by threads being posted in City Life celebrating various memorial days dear to Americans that seemingly have no relevance to CoH apart from the people being remembered (soldiers etc) being generally considered 'heroes'. They did I recall garner a bit of debate, generally on stuff like 'there were other nationalites than the US on D-Day' and things like that, with Australians and Canadians, as well as some of the Brits who play US-side, commenting. It'll be interesting to what effect our new European forumgoers addition to the fold have on things like this. The American memorial day Veterans Day, for example, is on November 11, which is also the day of the British Armistice Day, so that'll probably go down ok with the yanks and the Brits. The British equivalent, Armed Forces' Day, however, is on June 27, and I don't think the US has anything similar around that date? Can we say bugger and bollox?
On a more serious note, my main concern is not so much linguistic differences, but cultural ones, especially where quasi-politica/religiousl views may be expressed, which will inevitably come up for discussion. Choosing some topics off the top of my head, just for examples could be gun control, death penalty, socialised medical care etc - subjects which most people on either side of the debate do seem to hold to their hearts and can lead to lively discussion.
Putting some of those subjects in the CoX Context I'm thinking things like the Clockwork King's origin (& Blue Steel's involvement in that) could be somewhat polarising, as maybe Frostfire's origin might do.
That, more than words, might cause the odd burst of steam leak from collars both sides of the pond, but equally, I firmly believe that we must not be afraid of discussing potentially difficult subjects because that is what mature debate is all about and to stifle that renders any forum discussion rather pointless.

Quote:I'm sorry, but none of this compares to a Cup of Tea and a Chocolate Digestive! YES HEAVEN!
Edit: Dunk, dunk, dunk
You swine! It's difficult to get proper chocolate digestives here in Poland.
And dark chocolate digestives? Forget it.
Damn, I'm going to have to go out for chocolate now.

I recieved some feedback today pointing out a serious problem with The Audition. Tyrant was spawning in Mission 3 at lvl 50. The mission level was set at 40-54 to bring it in line with the rest of the arc, so 42s were meeting a lvl 50 Tyrant and obviously unable to complete
I've now set the level range of mission 3 at 50-54. It's a shame to not have a nice neat consistent level range, but I can't find a combat-ready Tyrant at any level than 50, so there you go.
Cheers v much to @Bubbawheat, @Zamara, @BigRedOne and @Lethal Guardian for helping me to catch this serious error.

Quote:You can get rid of the background pic of States and LR if you have an add-on with your browser to block images.
I use AdBlock with Firefox and that background pic was the first to go. Now I'm blocking 98% of sig pics.Quote:Type something, highlight it, then hit the URL button and submit a URL. It'll put your URL in and have your highlighted text turn into your link text.
Yay! That's what I need! Cheers v much
Next question: Is there a timeout on staying logged into the forums? I logged in an hour ago or some, had a browse, played CoH for a while, and I just had to relog. I'm sure I didnt log out.

It's really annoying, that pic. Pointlessly makes the forum smaller. It's especially irritating on my iPhone.
On another note, I can't seem to find oiut how to do the thing with the URLs. I can put a URL in, but where's the bit that lets me display the link as 'link' for example, not 'http:??blahblah'
I've tried using the standard editign thingy and the enhanced wysiwyg one. They've noth got buttons for adding a URL but the window that pops up only has the URL field.

Quote:Is there currently any app that customizes the forums for iPhone browsing? It would be great if there was something that simplified the forums (larger text, fewer images). Along the same lines, I sincerely hope that Mids never goes the iPhone app route. I will never work again if it does.
This would be awesome. The new forums are taking an age to load on my iPhone.
TBH, ANY CoH app for the iPhone would be great lol. There was a threrad a year or so ago about actually playing CoH on an iPhone, I remember. I wonder if it's still around...
