Yikes! I just logged in this morning and I saw that sb had posted and I was like "Ooh, that's nice!", and when I started reading I did a /faceclap and thought "I posted last night? I can't remember that!".

...Poker night last night. I drank a couple of vodkas, I admit.

    /sheepish.

    Don't post drunk, kids!

Thanks to Airhead for his really excellent feedback (Eb is now just a boss as this arc really only works if there are no faceplants along the way at all), and Clave, I'm awfully sorry if my response to your Stalker admission came across as critical. I do prefer my Heroic arcs to be played with Hero ATs, yes, but I appreciate the time anyone takes to play my arc and it is churlish of me to get grumpy with players who want to do otherwise (WN, lol, you're in this apology too ).

    A play is a play, isn't it?

Many thanks to ALL who've taken the time to play it.

I can get back to my hangover now. Hot bath, plentiful cups of herbal tea...

Nice pun on the challenge idea and a cute, well executed idea overall.

The best part is how it's so short - that alone should net you a ton of plays; I know I'm putting it on my list for every new toon to play so I can avoid repeating the low level content for the nth time. I was able to finish it without too much watching the clock and sweating. Of course, using a stalker might have been cheating just a little.

    Great stuff overall as usual.
I have to say that I'm afraid i'm disappointedted it was played on a Stalker, snce its marked as 'Heroic', but I guess i'm the only Player who actually looks at the descriptions in toto before they play an arc.

OK, look, to me - 'Heroic' - means a ****** blaster, scrapper, defender, controller or tanker. When I'm writing a an arc, i'm thinking of those character types doing it.

If a villain AT plays an arc of mine marked as 'Heroic', then TBH whatever they experience isn;t as intenteded.. If they havbe a good time, it's extra and just ramdom luck.

My arcs are meant to be played at the default difficulty setting. I don't care about XP or tickets or drops. Story Is King.

  5. I got a 'hi! Thanks for entering dr Aeons challenge!' type tell ingame yesterday from someone official sounding. Anyone kbow what this signifies? Does it mean my arcs been played by a judge, or is it just a 'your arc is officially a contender' notofication?

    Any ideas?

  6. I really enjoyed this arc. Dead 6 became an instant favourite custom. The 'relating the story' framework used is one of the better renditions I've seen using this style, and at one point where I realised who's point-of-view I was presenting as a mob spoke some lines, I broke out in a wide grin.

    Highly recommended.

  7. Good luck, everyone! I'm playing through the arcs on Samuraiko's list atm, and enjoying meself no end!

  8. Storming Citadel, Arc ID 379488 by @MrCaptainMan

I thought of the title about a year ago, and the concept came to me a little later. It's not an easy thing to engineer using the maps we have, but I'm happy enough with the result. Originally it was a little more complex, with a defendable object at the end, but repeated testing with a lowbie using no inspirations consistently failed to save the object in question from its attackers, so I reluctantly had to ditch it. I'm VERY happy with the ending, however. I hope players find it unusual and enjoyable.

One more thing which I again reluctantly changed involved the destructables in it. They're all the same object, but originally I made three different versions using the same object because that way you can vary the defenders dialogue some, which i feel enriches an arc. I needed sth to trigger only after all three had been fulfilled, however, so I eventually had to just use one objective for the three objects. I wish we had a 'This Objective triggers when Objectives X, Y and Z are completed' option.

The arc was made over three days this week, it took about 10 hours all told i think. I finally published it and sent the email off with just 4 minutes left on the clock!

It's a single-mission, ten-minute timed arc with the aim of rebooting a de-powered Citadel. It was tested mainly on a lvl 10 DB/WP scrapper.

As it stands, I'm quite happy with this little arc. I hope it provides a fun distraction for ten minutes of your time!

Feedback appreciated, though I'd appreciate no spoiling of the root concept or the post-exit surprise if possible

    Cheers!

  9. I sent D_R a PM, but I'll put it here too in case anyone else wants to play it - my arc for the challenge (emailed with 4 minutes to go before the deadline!) is:

    Storming Citadel

    Arc ID 379488

Synopsis: With just 10 minutes left before Citadel's mind is wiped, Positron turns to the only hero available for help - you! Travel to a location few heroes have travelled to (!) to save Talos' sturdy hero!

  10. And with 4 minutes on the clock, I publish and send the email

The arcs called Storming Citadel, it's 1 mission long, 10 minute-timed, and it's arc ID 379488

  11. It's people such as yourself, WN, that ensure that I can just not envisage ever cancelling my CoH sub. You're exactly the type of person that makes the MA community in CoH feel more like a family.

    /em thank you.

    Happy birthday, WN!

  12. For the first time in my life, I'm going to respond to a thread without reading all the posts in it.

Apologies if anything I say has already been covered.

I've been playing WoW for the last three weeks.

I now don't consider anything in CoH to be in any way an onerous time-sink.

    God I love CoH.

  15. I think that pinnacle would be a better place for PvP, seeing as it starts with P.

And also because Freedom's my main server

    Eco.

EDIT: Actually, even though i'm no PvPer, I think i'd rather PvPers move to Freedom, as I think more stuff going on is generally better for my game even if i don't choose to partake in it for the most part.

The cake in Portal is NOT a lie. It's pernickety, I know, but it really gets up my nose whenever someone says this. It just shows that they didn't play the game through ALL the way to the end.

Assassin strike! I'm dead. OK, rather lame as I'm obviously trying to get a shivan, but a part of the risks in the zone, so I don't complain (out loud at least).

BUT, rather than go on his way, or even use the bunker I've weakened. Mr PvP proceeds to simply kill the turrets (getting at best 1 or 2 exp for them as they are all just a tick away from destruction), so that they'll all respawn, and THEN leaving.

Now, why do that? You didn't use the bunker, you didn't gain anything for it. All you did was prove you're an a-hole who just wanted to ruin what I was doing.
That person was a total knobhead. Not for killing you, but for the turret antics.

And, as if by magic, Eco was suddenly turned pro-PvP!

lol if I received a tell "BLOOD!!! BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!!" at the same moment I was stealth-ganked, I'd be laughing so much i wouldn't at all begrudge the pvPer the kill.

  19. "When I'm in a zone and I see someone conning as an enemy, I have to assume they are there for PvP. More so, I have to assume they are as good or better than me because if I don't and play sloppy, I'll die in a hurry. Giving up the element of surprise plays a very large part in that. We don't know who you are or how good you are. All we know is that you can and most likely will try to kill us. And unless we play at our very best, you'll succeed."

The delivery of this is so earnest it's endearing, although I can state with certainty that your assumptions are in error when it comes to me

    eco
  20. ". You could, I suppose, apply a slippery slope argument to that and say "well in that case you'd be very happy with just beating up on a zone full of AFK enemies" and to a point, you'd be right. That'd get mighty boring after a while, though."

That sort of 'PvP' would only be boring to you after a while?

we're just going to have agree that we'll never understand each other.

  21. "That first shot, getting in without being detected (in the stalker/veat/ILL controller/anyone with stealth case even more so) is vital. It's a big advantage. Giving that up isn't "sporting," it's suicide. "

it's suicide against sb who kbows what they're doing in PvP, maybe. I doubt it'd be suicide against me, for example. And it's not exactly giving up 'first strike' either, just giving me slightly more warning that an attack's on its way than the current none.

  22. iPhone so snip-quoting.

"And TBH, done *that* way? I think we'd get nothing more than even more "PVPers are jerks" posts, as it comes off as... arrogant, barring pre-arranged RPvP or characters that otherwise "know" each other."

I think you're right in that some would see it that way. I personally would very much welcome it, and it would cause me to stay and fight rather than run. I don't think I'm alone.

On the other end of the line, he hears a voice with an American accent say one word. "Incoming."

I found that both in highly questionable taste and amusing!

But i dont think its a good analogy either. Unless the hiroshima guy's got some awesome toggles.

He is a U-2 pilot.

As he approaches the Soviet border, he turns his radio on. Using the Russian he learned during training, he says "Hey, guys, American spy plane here. I'm at 80,000 feet," and proceeds to give them heading and flight plan information.

What do you think would happen to such a pilot? On the plus side, he wouldn't be seeing a court martial or charge of treason....

Not applicable? OK, how about this.

Stalingrad, late 1942. Vassili Zaitsev, Soviet sniper, hides and waits for a likely Nazi target to come by.

There! He sees his quarry - a German officer. He takes aim, then stands up and breaks cover to yell "Hey, you, I'm going to shoot you now, stand still!"

Instead of being seen as a war hero, even having movies (such as Enemy at the Gates) based on the stories around him, he's used for the next half century plus as a lesson on "How not to behave as a sniper."

    Get what's being said?

That said, I mentioned earlier, I like the hunt. So, in my case, I'll watch what's going on. I'll watch things develop over several minutes, if need be, and weigh - well, multiple factors, not just "can I take them" into if I attack, ignore/avoid, or offer to help.

That struck me as a bit patronising, Bill, tbh.

I don't think either of your analogies are of any use here. The U-2 spyplane doesn't have any weapons. The pilot would indeed be an idiot to do as you say (which is far more than the simple "Incoming" I suggested, which would give any indication of location or direction). He is a lone, weaponless individual facing the entire array of Soviet anti-aircraft arms, both ground-based and airborne. A CoH PvP analogy to your U-2 example would be a single Stalker who walks up to a huge group of the opposing faction and drops Hide, for example.

And in Vasily Zaytsev's case, his aim was to one-shot his opponents without being noticed. That was perfectly understandable for him, of course, but the same incidence in CoH would be like a stalker who has the ability to one-shot from Hide. That would be wonderfully entertaining in a single player game, but I don't see anyone advocating that Stalkers be powered up so that they can do that. Also, "Hey, you, I'm going to shoot you now, stand still!" isn't what i was suggesting. You've added the standing up thing.
