    AE Removal?

AE is most certainly still broken. I joined a team the other day with my level 4. I did so because there were no sewer teams available. I haven't been in the game a while and didn't know AE farming was still going on, I figured it was just some RPers I was joining.

About eight to ten minutes later I was level 23.

I was leveling so fast I wasn't even sure it was me that was leveling. I figured it was my teammates I kept seeing ding. You can powerlevel in there probably about 3 times as fast as people did doing the Winterlords a few years ago.

    Just FYI...
  2. I wouldn't worry too much about earthquakes.

I assume all of the devs have Hover, right? Just stay up above it a bit, and you'll just flip every once in a while.
  3. I've mentioned this before, and I'll do it again

    Reflective Armor!

This would be armor that uses an enemy's attacks against him. If he attacks you, you absorb some of the energy of the attack, adding to your endurance or health, OR the attack will bounce back in his face, presumable at a lesser power level.
  4. Well, that's a given. But Nerf was simply a "safe" toy to begin with. They're designed for kids to play with without getting their noses flattened.

Some people prefer to play hardball, and take offense to the devs "nerfing" the game...
  5. I really considered going to that. I'm in Charlotte, NC, so it's not a huge trip. But I was needed at work, damnit. I'd really like to do something like that though. Will there be any other events like that any time soon?

Sorry but that sounds nuts to me. Are you actually suggesting that we have Tanks with Illusion Control powers or Controllers with Stone Armor. How about an Empathy Defender with Super Strength?
IMHO we need more specific powers not less. Sure everyone wants to be the vaunted "Tank/Mage" with great armor, melee attacks and powerful ranged attacks plus lots of support spells... but if you allow that everyone would be 95% identical to everyone else.

And clean out your litter box!

I don't think she means anything of the sort. But there are certain powersets that could certainly bridge between archetypes.

    Your Opinion

I've been asked about MMORPGs before, and I describe it thusly...

Most people, when they get off work, will go to the gym, walk their dog, make dinner, kiss their spouse, watch TV, and go to bed, or some combination of the above...

I do all of the above, except one... I don't watch TV. Except for a football game or some other special event, I have no interest in television, so I play online games with the same nonchalant attitude that most people watch TV with. In my opinion, it's a much more stimulating activity than watching people get voted out of a house for not eating enough bugs, etc...

This answer usually makes sense to most people.
  8. Okay, here it is, folks. Everyone just start doing this and shut up. No, I said shut up. You, in the back... yes, you shut up, too. Now...

    1. Open your teamseek window and organize your search by the criteria you would prefer, location, LFT, looking for missions, level, etc.

    2. For this step ignore any listing who does not have some form of LFT flag up.

    3. If you prefer not to send a tell before inviting, briefly scan the comments field of the people on the list. If they say "no blind invites", ignore them for now. Otherwise, send tells to whomever you see is LFT.

    4. If the last step did not yield enough members, then there is now only one option... send tells to appropriate players, preferably those who are LFT.

    5. If you are still lacking, send tells to those who are not LFT. And be nice, because they will be doing you a favor if they join, at this point.

    6. Do your best to educate all new players you see on how the teamseek function works.

This should more or less make everyone happy. However, players on both sides of the blind invites argument can agree that the other side will be damned for all of eternity, kind of like the Jews and the Muslims. So feel free to hate each other with an enmity unlike any other. I would also suggest that the devs initiate the "finger" emote so that both sides can show their enmity to one another on a daily basis.

But this guide should at least allow us to live together in relative peace... for now.
  9. Personally, I would suggest "Galaxy of Heroes", and offer shuttles between a variety of planets, as opposed to the Yellow and Green Line trams...

Of course, this could introduce some new archetypes and/or races, but for the most part I would prefer it still include and be an expansion for City of Heroes.
  10. Guardians Of The Golden Age

    - An RP supergroup specializing in Golden and Silver Age heroes. Our members reflect the style and moral fiber of the early days of comics, wherein the superhero was a "Hero", as opposed to the more modern "Anti-hero" that has become so prevalent.

    - The Guardians have several smaller sub-groups with themes similar to the Fantastic Four, Avengers, etc. These teams each meet on a special night each week, in addition to playing their mains with the SG.

    - We have chapters on Pinnacle, Virtue, and Protector, connected with a Global and Alliance channel.

    - There is always space on a team for fellow Guardians. Sidekicking and Exemplaring are our bread and butter.

    - Forum-based, and in-game RP storylines regularly run according to the players involved.

    TENETS OF MEMBERSHIP

Resolved: That the "Golden Age" resides within each of us, regardless of family, race, nation, planet, or time period of origin. Its manifestation can be summarized by the following three tenets:

    STRENGTH OF CHARACTER

Guardians must toe the line of legality and justice, but not succumb to the pressures of societal assimilation; such is not the path of the superhero. The most valuable and necessary trait in every Guardian is his or her individuality and expression thereof. A Guardian must assert his or her sense of self while respecting the same in fellow Guardians.

    TEAM SPIRIT

Even as the individuality of a single member is valued and encouraged, the true strength of the Guardians of the Golden Age lies in teamwork. A Guardian knows the strengths and weaknesses of her or his teammates and how best to support them, while remaining vigilant about their well-being in battle and out. Clear communication is an essential component of this tenet.

    FASHION SENSE

The ideals of the Guardians must be reflected in the visual appearance of all members, whether subtle or striking. For this reason, members generally refrain from wearing team colors and insignia, to demonstrate visually the importance of the first tenet. Clarity and creativity are the watchwords of good costume design.

If you believe you possess all three of these traits, and wish to submit to an interview and/or test mission with a Guardians Captain, please email Mister Mirror at:

    Superhero quiz

I suppose I should have posted at the beginning, I got 19/21 on the men.

17/21 on the women. I noticed a lot of the female heroines were more modern. I don't know much about comics past the 80s...

  14. I keep seeing these threads pop up, and I feel I have to say... I think you're all theorizing over something that doesn't exist... seriously...
  15. Nathan, I understand what you're saying... however...

This is not just one thread. This subject comes up almost every day. I don't recall seeing many threads about superspeed being underpowered, or superjump being a gimp power next to flight. (Although I do see a few threads about teleport here, granted)

But flight speed comes up all the damn time. There are a LOT of people that agree that flight is too slow, and/or that the accuracy debuff should be taken out. It IS a concern for a lot of people. And seeing as how I often choose flight for my characters, I'd like to see some love payed to it.

(Now you may ask, why do you choose flight for so many characters?... My answer is simply for style. I make a lot of flight-inspired characters. If it wasn't for that, I would choose either SS or Superjump for every last one of them.)
  16. Hehe, as opposed to City of Superspeeders? Look around you next time you're in game... It's already here.

I'd just like to point out, I'm not saying the boards are 100% of the player base. They are not even 5%... more like 1%. But this is what is called a Random Sample...

    From an online polling company...

"A random sample is the result of a process whereby a selection of participants is made from a larger population and each subject is chosen entirely by chance. "

It's a fairly accurate way of interpreting the larger population's opinion. And it's pretty clear what that opinion is on these boards...

    [/ QUOTE ]

But this is not a random sampling. The people on this board are the ones that actively decided to go on the boards. What's random about that? Usually, these are the more 'hard core' type of player especially looking at the arguments here.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Your point being? That the people on these boards don't represent the player base?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Read the part again about 'chosen entirely by chance' in your original message. There is no 'chance' about the people that come to these boards. I really don't see how you can think there is. It's the vocal people that come here with strong opinions. If every player was like the ones on these boards, they would all be reading and posting on these boards.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ok, let me ask again. What's your point? I'll agree, we're not random. So..........er..... what's your point, other than to nitpick the word random? Does this have any impact on what I said that the board posters are a good sampling of the player base?
  18. Another point on that "safety" issue. The difference is very clearly represented in the way these powers are used in game. Take the Cavern of Transcendence....

If you're having trouble clearing the cavern, what do you do? Have a superspeeder go find the stones, and if he's got Recall Friend, have him TP them to the stones. This tactic is also used in "kill boss" missions by a lot of folks.

You don't fly to avoid aggro, you don't jump to avoid aggro. I suppose to a certain extent you can TP. But the fact is, superspeed is the safest travel power indoors, which is where you're typically in the most danger...

Outdoors, well, it's still pretty darn safe, but I imagine flight has it beat for its more or less nullification of enemy contact.

  20. I have a better solution for capes... to get off topic for a moment. Don't give anything at 20. Allow capes at level 1, for crying out loud. Telling someone they have to earn a cape is like making them earn spiked gloves. It's a part of the costume!

I basically powerleveled to level 20, just so I'd have a cape. I felt silly without one. (Just like another of my alts would look silly WITH one)

I think if a majority of the boards want it boosted, that's a pretty good indicator of the fan base...

And just look around in game. What do you see? A million light trails as people bound around the city with superjump and superspeed. Now look up higher, you'll see one, maybe two idiots like me puttering along with flight. It's actually kind of funny to see the comparison...

    [/ QUOTE ]

The boards are not a the majority of the playerbase, more like 5%. From what I've witnessed and from the info I've read, a lot of blasters, defenders, controllers use fly. I know a few scrappers and tankers in the high game that has it as well. One poster did mention that people usually pick up another travel power, which is the case for a lot in the high game, but fly is still more common in builds than just the others a long. I would say about 1/3 are fliers, while the other 2/3 are a combination of the other 4 (ss, sj, tele, or non).

No matter how you slice it, flying is ultimately safer than super speed, and offer an undeniable vertical advantage over super speed (or in this case, 4 other speed powers). If flyspeed had the same max as runspeed, why would anyone ever take superspeed?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Maybe they'd take superspeed because it FIT their character? Gee imagine that!

This argument about speed can be made for SS only, Geko. SJ can get you vertical and is fast. It's nearly as fast as SS, has absolutely no drawbacks, and only pulls aggro if you're not careful (I haven't accidentally drawn aggro with SJ in probably 20 levels, now that I know what I am doing). And even if it does pull aggro unless something mezzes you or one-shots you, you're out of its range almost instantly (fast enough it will not get off a 2nd shot). Most of my SG would agree with me that SJ is the most effective travel power in the game, combining very fast speed with no significant end drain (unlike flight and TP) and vertical movement that allows you to get anywhere (though for very high places you might have to do a bit of geometry till you put a jump SO on it). Yet even though most people on my SG would tell you SJ is the best travel power, almost NONE of them have it (most of them have flight). Why do you think that is? Because flight fits for their character.

It seems to me that the problem here is what you guys decided to make the 'drawback' of the SS power -- lack of vertical movement. So why not get rid of that? Let people with SS run up walls, and cut the end cost and bump the speed of flight. Let all movement powers be EQUAL (approximately) and then people will take (gasp) what they WANT instead of what's most efficient.
