For the record though, maybe a proverbial bone for heroes would squelch some of the dissention.

::Tackles Statesman.::
I'm sorry for being so.. "passionate" last night. When I find something I care about I don't half [censored] it... and I tend to overreact. The problem is that I don't tend to open my mouth unless I care THAT much. Sorry for being a [censored].
Now that that is out of the way..

I want a MA/EA scrapper!

I play different ATs because they play differently. Who has what power set only matters to me when it starts to [censored] over my ability to play the characters I want to RP... which is quite a long list considering I have a year+ of "Oh that is goo... oh wait.. right.. exclusive power sets.. and this character wouldn't suit x AT.".
[/ QUOTE ]
I know it's not out yet, but wouldn't a power customization system resolve this urge better than set sharing?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes it would to an extent, but it's a looong way off.
[/ QUOTE ]
Agreed, but if this is an issue, let's rabble rouse to get that off the back burner instead of rabble rousing to share every set it is possible to share (to the detriment of those who want to play a more "unique" character).
[/ QUOTE ]
What would be so unique about a defender character using a defender only combo? Anyone can go and make a defender with those power sets. -

Depends..
The only "punching" set for scrappers is dark melee. You have THREE punches. Oooh.. yeah.. some punching set. What if your concept is punching and scrapping.. you could change the effects to something non dark if that clashes, but what about the moves themselves? Dark consumption is still dark consumption. Touch of fear? Hard to fit the more exotic moves into a more normal punching scrapper.
What if the options aren't there? I doubt you will be able to make an axe tank and replace the axe with a broadsword. I don't know why, but something tells me that isn't going to happen.
We NEED more shared sets. -

Inv for scrappers and tanks use different numbers. Brutes and stalkers use the same numbers as scrappers but with different HP(I think so anyway). That is just how the devs decided it should work out. It isn't because there is no ability to seperately balance sets. By all rights energy aura could be ported directly from brutes without a single change. It would be quick. It would be easy. There is no reason why it shouldn't happen
GRRR!
[/ QUOTE ]
Inv for scrappers and tankers uses exactly the same numbers. Those numbers are then modified according to AT.
[/ QUOTE ]
Weird..
Well how about fire melee for brutes and tanks. Didn't they replace a whole power?
Seems making sets different across ATs is easy enough regardless. -
Sigh..
Not even LOLcity!!!1 can seem to fill the massive hole of depression. I had almost forgotten the very.. very.. extremely.. excruciatingly long list of "characters that will never be made thanks to exclusive power sets".
I think I am going to go find some good text based RP to occupy me tonight. COH is suddenly reminding me of all my unfulfilled ideas..

Besides... I can understand the view. Sure, I think some of the sets could be spread around a little more, but I also *like* having certain sets that are only available on one specific AT.

What really gets me is that sharing more sets would produce almost instantanious content. You change a few numbers around for balance then ship the set over. No time spent on power animations. No time spent up thinking how whole power sets should function. You change the numbers.. ship it.. BAM! Instant new toys to play with. How many new powerset combos would you get if you added only ONE set to scrappers? How about tanks? I think broadsword would fit them. Big and slow.. and a nice alternative to that ugly axe.
It would be the easiest way in the world to produce content.. why not do it?!
[/ QUOTE ]
Because its *never* as easy as "Changing a few numbers"?
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe not quite THAT easy.. but it is certainly easier that having whoever does the animations to come up with a new set of effects for essentialy the SAME powerset just so ATs can have exclusive power sets. -

Power sets across ATs aren't linked. They can be balanced seperately.
[/ QUOTE ]
The dev's used the exact same numbers for pretty much all the primaries that brutes share with scrappers and tankers. I don't think they care to balance anything seperately, making more shared powers an almost foregone conclusion.

Of course, the amusing thing is there are also people who spent time on the forums complaining about the fact that Controllers and Defenders share powersets.
[/ QUOTE ]
Those people are idiots.
Defenders do NOT equal controllers. Vastly different purposes and playstyles. If you trap yourself by basing the whole character ONLY on your primary.. that is your own damn fault. -

I call BS on anyone that says AT exclusive powersets is a good idea simply because it makes the ATs "different". It doesn't. It just makes them frustrating to play as you try to force them into the playstyle you wanted IN THE FIRST PLACE.
[/ QUOTE ]
Been saying that since I started. SS Scrappers. EM Scrappers. Nerf the set if you must, but share 'em.
The dev's do NOT feel the same way. Statesman certainly does not. And that's really all there is to say.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, if Statesman still feels the same way then he can go shove it up his [censored].
If Statesman is reading this and has disregarded this misguided notion.. then I apologize for everything I just said.
If not.. seriously.. go [censored] yourself.
[/ QUOTE ]
If anything, I'd say it's more along the lines of the dreaded "Balance" issues. Remember, the whole reason AT's and Powersets were created was to help avoid creating "Tank-Mages". And Brutes had Ice powers removed from them in Beta simply because it didn't *work* with them.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah.. the slows the sets were based on inhibited fury. There was no fix because slows are a part of what you get with the power set. They would have had to strip it down and give it soemthing else.. then it wouldn't be ice anymore anyway.
How is that a problem for anything else? EM? Ok.. nerf the damage for scrappers. Easy enough. Power sets across ATs aren't linked. They can be balanced seperately. Energy aura.. Um.. how is that a problem? No AT inherent conflicts.. hell.. most people consider the damn thing gimp as hell from what I hear.
Go ahead.. point out balance problems that CAN'T be easily fixed..
Oh right.. there are none.

Miss Kitty you should know by now that if the devs didn't randomly pick one or two powersets to keep isolated to a specific AT that no one would ever want to play that particular AT...either that or the world would collapse in upon itself...I can never remember which...
[/ QUOTE ]
Bullcrap.
Archetypes play vastly different. A tank doesn't play like a scrapper. A scrapper doesn't play like a brute. A brute doesn't play like a stalker. I have played them and they are DIFFERENT ATs. If the ATs aren't different enough on their own without some false saying they are different then they shouldn't be different ATs in the first place.
Exclusive powersets are [censored]. They do NOTHING except frustrate those of us that want to play with these powersets in the manner another AT would use them. If I want to play a tank I will play a tank because I feel like tanking. If I want to play a brute I will play one because I feel like being a brute. I play scrappers because I like playing as a scrapper.. not because of the powersets they have.
I call BS on anyone that says AT exclusive powersets is a good idea simply because it makes the ATs "different". It doesn't. It just makes them frustrating to play as you try to force them into the playstyle you wanted IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Yes. One of the people at White Wolf is trying to keep Uwe Boll from going psychotic on the Hunter property. While I don't have much faith it'll work, at least they're trying.

On the flipside tho, it really does suck to be ridiculed for your musical tastes. Then a year later find ever fratboy in the TriState area listening to them claiming to be og's.
[/ QUOTE ]
Precisely why I avoid saying what my tastes in music are. When someone asks I usually say "A little bit of everything. I'm never sure if I'll like a particular song or not". It is true enough, but I would rather not go into the "Haha.. they suck" thing. It just makes me feel stupid. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
I will laugh in anybodies face if they say they dislike anything simply because it is no longer restricted to a small minority of people. Just because it is popular doesn't mean it instantly sucks.
[/ QUOTE ]
I whole-heartedly agree with this (and the inverse is obviously true too - massive popularity doesn't mean quality). Several of my friends that are really in to Indie rock invariabley declare that a band now sucks the moment they are signed to a major label (e.g., Deathcab for Cutie). Sometimes they're right...but most of the time they're just revealing some desparate need to be on the "other side" of popular culture no mater what (as this site demonstrates nicely).
[/ QUOTE ]
Well your friends are dorks.
That is true. Just because it is popular doesn't make it good. Though, as someone above you pointed out, popularity means more competition. It means more variety as more people try to get in on the act. You have companies trying to beat the snot out of eachother. That is always good for the consumer! Ok.. sure.. you can get idiots and people turning out crap just for a quick grab of the action, but you just have to filter them out. No big deal. Popularity is still a good thing.
Not to mention, if pen and paper RPGs were massivly popular we wouldn't have a problem finding people to play with.
