  1. Yeah, note I was playing around with GMs and not AVs with my Ill/therm. So I'd think Ill/therm would be very viable against AVs. I typically team and prefer teaming, so soloing AVs isn't something I look for unless its for academic purposes ie threads like this.

I think I'll look into comparing the two and their performance against AVs. Might be fun.
  2. You have issues like recharge and duration of debuffs. Read the sentence right after the one you quoted. I'm not saying it's not possible, its just easier with other combos. AM in rad is very helpful in keeping the attack chain going without having to invest heavily in recharge bonuses. Yes, there are some very powerful debuffs in cold, how easy (and expensive) they are to maintain, is another question.

That said, I haven't really given it a go against AVs solo. (I did test my Ill/therm against GMs in PI for giggles and it produced consistent stalemates) My current build is pretty darn heavy on recharge, I will check it out ingame and see how it stacks up v. AVs and report back what I observe.
  3. As Local said, without a good quick recharging source of AOE containment (something illusion lacks), you are better off going with single target blasts from your epics. I have an Ill/cold, I really like it. I'm not so sure it will be the AV killer that some other combos produce. I'm not saying it's not possible, but you can probably get an AV killer much easier with an Illusion or fire/rad. It really looks to me like your friend just said, "Lets take the most expensive IOs and stick them wherever they fit. There! AV killer!"
  4. Sunday 10am EST?

I'm in! and put me down for a 'whatever is needed'. Happy to bring whatever is needed to fill the team out.
  5. Gratz to SS!

And gratz to me on my ridiculous post count (#10,000). I'd like to thank ACTFs, Controller Forums, Lost, Heroes, Movies and Troy Hickman for my post count.

    (There is no Forum Cartel.........shhhhhhhhhhh.)
  6. Lots of good stuff from Local.

Agreed on the stamina slotting. 3 max (maybe very rarely 4) Pretty much standard slotting across the board for me and stamina is 2 50 common IOs and the proc. And everyone knows how much I love recovery.

And agreed on smoke. (Sorry MB, even though you are a homey. Props to Memphis! ) It's pretty wasted on a fire/storm. If another mob happens to aggro me, I'll just throw a tornado at them. It doesn't happen enough to warrant a power selection IMHO. YMMV.
  7. In my opinion, not at the expense of what you are good at.

Softcapping is neat, but far from important. My fire/storm was taking down spawns of +4s in cimerora in the mid 40s without the benefit of defense bonuses. If you lockem down and kill them quickly, who cares if they can hit you?

The fact people overrate it just increases my disdain as it was easily one of the worst films of 2009, and things Ive seen in recent history. I'm definitely not the Only one who felt that way either. But the forums around here seem to really like this film for whatever reason. (shrug.)

Ummmm, because people have different tastes? How about that? Heck someone has already said they liked Transformers 2. That right there shows the spectrum of potential taste. You don't like it. Great. Point taken. Overrated? I think not. It's a pretty down the middle movie. People either love it or hate it. You say overrated, I say underrated.

Then again, I loved Transformers 2 and Star Trek XI, so take it for what it's worth.
Point taken. Me, I loved it.

Personally, I would go for the Psi Pool. One of your biggest problems will be getting mezzed, and Indomidible Will can stop that most of the time.
I went earth mastery on mine for fissure (fits well in the fire/storm playstyle and yet another source/potential to stun) and the wonderful earth's embrace, which is nice on a fire/storm as you have no self heal and you do take a fair share of damage if you play it melee centric. You're suggestion of mezz protection is a legitimate argument though. With fire/storm, I just try to killem before they stun meh!
  11. Oh no problem, I didn't take it that way. I just realized, I just answered your questions and didn't bother looking at the build in detail.
  12. Your questions have been answered by some of the most knowledgeable vet players on the forums. And that's just the tip of the iceburg! I won't bother with redundencies then. But you've stumbled on the one thing that keeps players around for a long time.

    Best Community Ever.

Sure we have our share of smartalecs and snarkletons, but for the most this community loves being helpful and welcoming to new players. Let me just say again, welcome to Coh/v.

One word of advice that I haven't really seen yet.

This game isn't about the endgame, it's about the journey. Do yourself a favor and play through the content as it unfolds for you. At least your first time through. While a lot of games stress "getting to the end for the big loot" it's not so much here. This game is highly replayable and promotes altism (playing many different characters, not just your main), so don't feel like you are going too slow your first time around. Soak it all in, learn the game and all of its many currencies and systems. If you take the PL route you'll never really understand. Once you get through it and feel comfortable with the game, you may want to go a "little faster", but whatever you do don't feel a need to get to the end as quickly as possible. You may end up disappointed. Sure there are late game tasks and even an endgame system coming out down the road, but the game will always be about the journey and not the destination.

    Enjoy and welcome home!

    Edit- one more thing..............Controllers rule!
  13. PHEWWWWW! over the head. Elaborate please, not familiar.
  14. I spoke mainly to your questions and didn't really look at the build. Allow me to give you a little advice.

Flashfire and fire cages will be an important part of your attack/control chain. Take is ASAP. Make sure it has max recharge, you want it up and often.

Hotfeet is pretty dern important to the buzzsaw effect of fire/storm.

    Gale is pretty overslotted.

Smoke is pretty meh for a fire/storm. It's not really a set that wants the "subtlety" of smoke. It's more "I'm in your face killing your minions".

Snow storm has its uses, but I'd pick it later than sooner.

And as I said, leadership is a bit low priority, especially in a build without a defense based shield ala ice or earth APP. Steamy mist's def is too low in my opinion to benefit from the stacking of maneuvers.

And most important: Lightning storm and tornado are your friends! Take em, love em, use em and laugh at the waste and wreckage behind you!

Hope this helps and welcome back to Coh/v.
  15. I wouldn't really recommend leadership with a fire/storm:

    1. fire/storm is a HUGE end hog, that many toggles are not your friend.
    2. The benefits of leadership will be small as it already does significant damage (its a freaking buzzsaw of a powerset) and without any other significant defense to stack with maneuvers will be nothing but an end drain for you.

For a fire/storm I find that you really want to build for + end and + recovery followed by + recharge. Personally I like hurricane for a panic button and for herdicaning.
