Quote:Carefully chosen words? Animal pack maybe?
we have an upcoming Booster Pack that players have been asking for, and that is going to be pretty awesome. I'm sure they'll pounce on it the second it hits the store.

I'm just going to say it. The idea that you have to be softcapped to s/l or softcapped to anything to be a survivable or effective fire/kin or any type of controller is utter nonsense and poppycock. Sure if you are farming a specific enemy group it will make things a little easier, but lets face it; a well played fire/kin can usually have the enemy stunned and dead before they even have a chance to fire back. It's nice to have (sure, I guess) but far far from necessary.
(Yeah, I just wanted to say 'nonsense and poppycock'.)

It's a superhero show, so I'm sold already from the beginning. Enjoyed it, a bit predictable in places, but definite potential. Think it's going to take me a while to warm up to the lead though. He's ok, but just doesn't seem to quite have "it". I do like the way they are handling the villains and what seems like will be a villain-of-the-week. I'll keep watching.

Quote:Apparently we aren't counting jokes either, I guess. But I'll take a stab at it.So cells get larger by the person, eh? That's a new one... Or are we not counting cells as parts?
For the most part the difference in the number of cells to make say a 6 foot person compared to the 5 foot person isn't really making the system as a whole more complex, because they are essentially carrying out the same exact tasks without taxing the system or requiring extra 'stuff' i.e. muscles, bones, arteries, etc to make things work. -
A six foot person should have the exact same number of parts as a 5 foot person.
Now a six footed person would have more parts than a 5 footed person. They both should probably talk to their mothers about living so close to a nuclear power plant, though. -
Quote:Given your power choices you are probably going to have to focus on either defense or recharge then, you probably won't be able to acheive both. The little defense you are pulling out isn't going to be nearly as helpful for a controller as focusing on recharge is. Your desire for defense is centered around survivability, so you either need to focus on that (with the help of a defense based shield) or you could focus on using your primary and secondary for what it does best: control through chaos. A well played Ill/Storm is a monster build that is very survivable outside the realm of defense bonuses because it does such a good job of distracting your enemies so they don't want to or can't attack you. This, in my opinion, is best acheived by focusing on what makes controllers better: recharge, recovery and +endurance. The main reason I'm slotting for defense is because I want survivability in solo play. I did take the S/G Invis as mules 'cause the way I see it, the defense bonuses I get when those are active go away as soon as I do anything, which is kind of useless for me.
.
Thing is, I'm trying to slot for defense on anything but melee. I don't always have Hurricane on except for when baddies start crowding me and I need space (that's why I don't care for melee range and melee type damage defense), herding, or debuffing a boss+.
Anyhow, for me the goal is perma-PA to use as my primary attack power. While the rest of me holds, debufs, slows, herds, etc... With my slow contribution to damage as well with Blind and Spectral Wounds.
I dunno... does that make sense in your experience or does it not work out so well? Currently, I'm only really getting a 16.6% bonus to damage... but even then, I was thinking of taking Spiritual for my alpha slot rather than damage... Thoughts? -
I'm curious if this question is raised regarding a particular set bonus in one (or several) of the sets, or just overall curiosity.

What will your playstyle be: solo, duo, team? Static team, PUGs ?, etc. If it is a static team what's the typical makeup. What are your goals and desires? Etc. etc. etc. More information would be helpful for good advice.

Groban has done some pretty funny things over the years. Good to see he doesn't take himself too seriously. Nice.

I'm no expert on ST canon, but don't Vulcans live a lot longer than us and mate rather infrequently? If so it would seem that even with many colonies there wouldn't be as many as we'd expect in a human colony.

I think a lot of Probst's hatred for quitters also has to do with the selection process and number of super fans that get turned away. They seem to really try hard to pick a cast that will make good TV and when someone ups and decides they want to go home he thinks of all those other people who've applied (multiple times for many), got close and were disappointed to be told 'no'. He seems to be pretty involved in the casting process and I think when someone quits he starts second guessing those decisions.
I will agree that Survivor has had a resurgence these last three seasons. And as pointed out by someone else, Russell is instrumental (for me at least) in the show getting good again. I'll admit quite an obsession with the show in the beginning, but then the show got to be fairly predictable and the casts started becoming a bit boring (kind of retreads of previous seasons) and a few seasons kind of just seemed to blend into each other. I quit watching for a few years. I gave the opening epsiode of Russells season a try and got "rehooked" into Survivor. I think they started casting a little better (see: Russell) and started rethinking the show, the dynamic and the challenges differently. My only complaint after all these seasons is I think the stress on the social dynamic aspect of winning (a trend that started to come into play after a few seasons) has turned a few worthless players into millionaires. Yeah, I know it's part of the game, but come on....Russell played circles around two casts in a row. And it even surprised me that Probst never really gave him his just props. I mean everyone lies and cheats in that game and it's funny to see people angry with others for deceit when they are just as guilty themselves. It's a great social experiment and a blast to watch once again. -
I'll bite.
Best movie: Another vote for Inception. While the premise is nothing all that new, he took it to new heights with modern technology and solid storytelling.
Best tv (comedy): BBM got it right. Tie:
Modern Family- One of the first comedies in memory that actually nails "real families". The characters are likable, delightful, quirky and all funny. It's nice to see a show about families that isn't just another plug and play show featuring the "stand up comic du jour" as the fat blue collar husband with the overly hot wife, the sassy family member and the wacky single best friend. [Extra helping- the NBC show Parenthood does a similar job on the drama side of the family discussion. It's a show I've really gotten to enjoy.]
Community- pure, unadulterated silliness with meta smeared in every frame. It's absurd, and I love it. Just a fun show that looks like the cast is having as much fun as the viewer.
Honorable mention- Californication- Duchovny chews the character and the show up and plays spiralling self destruction better than I think I've seen. His witty delivery and lines are some very funny (and very dark) stuff.
Best tv (drama)
Dexter. In my opinion hands down the best drama on TV. Sure this last season couldn't come close to the perfection that was, John Lithgow's Trinity season of last year. But it still delivers great acting and smart writing each episode.
Special award- to Lost of course delivering a finale that tied up all the right loose ends for this viewer. It will be missed.
Music- I'll admit my music consumption this year was down a bit, but there has been great stuff put out by Spoon, Vampire Weekend, Blitzen Trapper and the Black Keys to name a few. Best concert- the Black Crowes "farewell" tour featuring an hour and a half acoustic set and an hour and a half electric set. -

Quote:The comment had nothing to do with you or your abilities or mine for that matter. My point was directed at your desire for a build that is " made for teaming and hard missions". All I was saying is a common IO build will do that and just because you spent a few billion doesn't really make it able to handle tough content "that much better" really. (For a team build)First You got me confused though. I'm by no means the best at making builds but saying you can do aswel with a SO build, that's harsh.
Oh yeah, and thanks for the replies!
That said the build itself is fine, far from bad. It's just common to see people come around here with builds that are expensive for expensive sake and softcap just because it's so in vouge. Is the couple of 100 million extra spent to softcap really helping a team build? I'm not so sure. A farming build? Probably. But a team based controller shouldn't be getting that much aggro; at least I hope not. -
Quote:/clap clap clapThe buff/debuff thing is much less of a problem. OK, so a bunch of Defenders can beat a couple of Task Forces if they work together. Meanwhile the Scrappers and Brutes cakewalk through the other 90% of the game, and have an easier time even obtaining the resources to run around unchecked. Every Controller is not a Fire/Kin or Ill/something and every Defender is not a... whatever Defender supposedly has an easier time than Scrappers do.
Well put, Oedipus. -
+4/8 able to clear? Probably.
With any speed? Unlikely.
You have no fast acting aoe damage power and frost breaths cone is pretty narrow and you opted not to take your aoe immob for containment set up. At +4/8 I'm assuming you are trying to farm. I can think of numerous (and I mean NUMEROUS) other combinations I'd use before this one. To be honest this just looks like our typical "plug in the most expensive set" type build. If you have the change to make it, go for it. Can't say it will be any more team friendly or tough content oriented than most common IO or SO builds. It's just expensive. -

No villain defenders???
Defenders are closer to Corruptors than Controllers are to Doms. -
No real end problems with the character really, as I said I IO'd her pretty heavily. I will be getting cardiac for her, not so much (but part of it) for the end reduction but for the addition to my resist buffs. As I said the combo is far from "dog" territory. While I'd admit, its a very rare breed, that doesn't necessarily make it a dog by any stretch. It's just different and not as flashy as some combos. There was a time when I wondered if the character was really making a contribution to teams. Something pulled my attention away and I had to go /afk. I came back to the screen to see many of my teammates bars were much less filled. I ran back to the action and as soon as I started using both primary and secondary things filled up and stayed that way.
I think you are missing some of the "good things" that /sonic has to offer while you keep mentioning the discrepency with thermal. Sonic dispersion- self protection (resist) and mezz protection (except for the bubble sleep hole of course). Also I think that liquify is a slightly underrated power (especially for the to-hit debuff) and can be used nicely with a controller and help offset the long recharge on the primaries aoe hold. The only petless argument and disruption field comes into play only when talking about soloing. Add a teammate problem solved.
The downside is obviously that it can be very clicky especially with a large team. And a large team is where I think the thermal argument wears thin (when discussing Mind as a primary) Talk about clicky!!! My fingers ache just thinking about Mind/Thermal in action on an eight person team.
My current build is fairly old and hasn't been respec'd after inherent fitness. Where /sonic will shine and where any potential end issues will come to play will be 4 slotting with Impervium armor for 2.25 extra end which will also increase recovery very nicely. This excites me as the current build thanks to slotting of my primaries already is recovery friendly, after this change it will be very sexxxeh! Also one of the nice things about sonic is you don't have to invest in a heavy number of slots and they can go towards primary and epics. It's pretty slot friendly. Just some thoughts. -
Oh, I IO'd the heck out of it. To the absolute most uber effect? No. But it's a rare build, so it's not going to be Ill/Rad. So what? Not everything has to be min/max synergistically super powered. It's a good solid combo, not the best but far far far from the worst. My measuring stick? If I leave the action, what happens to my teammates health bars? And with this combo, it becomes pretty apparent, that it's making a contribution to the team. It's not as sexy as some combos, it's not the most powerful, but like I said: solid.....but clicky.
